    The description of the mission and activities of the international NGO organization Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) should be seen as an example of humanitarian, pastoral and development aid. The presented data gives a picture of the needs, but also shows that behind each of the projects there are specific stories of disadvantaged people. Reflecting on the activities and specific projects of the ACN Foundation allows us to conclude that one organization, even with an international reach, is not able to solve all the world’s problems, but it can certainly show the world a picture of needs in many of its regions. The study is part of the research into the areas of humanitarian aid, religious problems in the world, the impact of the papal aid organization on the development of social and religious life, volunteering and the integral development of local communities. The source data used in this text is the Foundation’s internal 2019 data. Two selected countries, Lebanon and South Sudan are representative countries supported by ACN. The selected aid projects illustrate the scale of the aid and can be used to draw a picture of the needs. This example of ACN activities contributes to further research into the state of aid, the identification of aid needs and aid effectiveness in different regions of the world. The presented data may also inspire even greater solidarity between nations in mutual aid and may inspire other aid organizations to increase their involvement in aid in the indicated regions.

    The following article presents vocational development as a lifelong process and its connection to self-help via the European Qualification ramework and personal development. Instances of self-help strategies to augment vocational development are displayed, followed by a growing body of interdisciplinary evidence which brings new light on the problems that occur with self-help. It shows that self-help might help as well as harm. Finally, it brings attention to a demand for further studies about the threats associated with self-help and a need for a deeper understanding of its underlying mechanisms.

    Many governments, charitable organizations and NGOs are dedicated to helping the world’s poor but much of their effort is wasted. In the opinion of Banerjee and Duflo this effort is based on assumptions that are untested generalizations at best, and harmful misperceptions at worst. Because of this, they propose a new way to fight global poverty. The paper presents this way. It is based on randomized trials to reveal the multi-faceted and complex economic lives of the poor. Limitations of the new perspective are shown.

    The phenomenon of poverty occupies an important place in the discourse on the problem of exclusion and social marginalisation. The problem of children in a poverty situation is most often analysed through the prism of family poverty. Meanwhile, it is worth noting that poverty in childhood has a different dimension than in adulthood, because it disturbs the proper development of the child. Children’s experience of poverty affects their further life, often with irreversible consequences. Numerous institutions and individuals offer their help and support to improve the lives of children in Africa. This activity takes the form of either immediate or long-term help. One of those institutions that actively participate in solving the problem of poverty in Africa is the Catholic Church. Its involvement in helping children in a poverty situation is an important dimension of social support.

    Właściwa, wartościowa pomoc polega na wspomaganiu rozwoju człowieka. Nie jest ona jednorazowym aktem, ale procesem przebiegającym w różnych fazach ludzkiego życia. Niesienie pomocy człowiekowi potrzebującemu jest działaniem umożliwiającym dokonanie zmiany w jego życiu. Zmiany te mogą być niewielkie, albo też i bardzo znaczące, zawsze jednak powinny wspierać człowieka w przejmowaniu większej kontroli nad swoim życiem. Projekt „Adopcja Serca” jest programem przede wszystkim pomocy charytatywnej polegający na indywidualnym patronacie darczyńcy nad konkretnym, znanym z imienia i nazwiska dzieckiem. Głównym celem pomocy w ramach tego programu jest umożliwienie dziecku realizacji edukacji szkolnej. Ponadto ze środków programowych pokrywane są także wydatki na dożywianie i opiekę zdrowotną podopiecznych. W rezultacie podejmowane działania pomocowe mają doprowadzić podopiecznego do życiowej samodzielności.
    Proper, valuable assistance is to assist human development. It is not a single act but the process on the different phases of human life. Helping a person in need is an act that allows making changes in his life. These changes may be small or very significant, but always should promote human beeings in taking greater control over their lives. The project "Adoption of Heart" is a program primarily charitable in which patronage relies on individual donors for a concrete and known by name child. The ultimate objective of this program is to allow the child to implement school education. In addition, the program funds are also to cover expenditure on feeding and health care charges. As a result, relief efforts undertaken should bring the child into the life of independence.

    Skrajna sytuacja, jaką jest wojna, zagraża zwłaszcza najsłabszym, czyli dzieciom i młodzieży. Dlatego w obliczu sytuacji realnego zagrożenia po ludobójstwie w Rwandzie podjęto natychmiast działania pomocowe i opiekuńcze. Jednym z takich działań był projekt na rzecz dzieci w Afryce o nazwie „Adopcja Serca”. Głównym motywem włączania się w adopcję serca stała się ewangeliczna zasada miłości. Miłość bliźniego jest odpowiedzią na konkretne potrzeby drugiego człowieka. Miłość bliźniego w ujęciu chrześcijańskim oznacza dawanie czegoś z siebie, rezygnowanie z własnych potrzeb na rzecz drugiego człowieka, a także bycie gotowym do poświęcania się dla innych ludzi.
    War as an extreme situation threatens especially the most vulnerable, that is, children and adolescents. Therefore, in the face of real danger after the genocide in Rwanda, adequate care and support activities were taken. The program for children in Africa called “Adoption of Heart” was one of them. The evangelical principle of love was the main motive for joining the program. Love of neighbor is a response to the specific needs of others. Charity in Christian terms means giving something of oneself, forgoing one’s own needs for other people as well as being ready to sacrifice oneself for others.

    Subsidiarity is a well known concept in the Humanities, but its potential for ordering social life is far from exhausted. Aim of the article is to answer a question of the validity of this idea. A new impetus for its understanding could be found in the latest social Encyclical Letter of Pope Benedict XVI Caritas in Veritate (2009). Recalling the old idea, the Pope pointed at the biblical sources of subsidiarity and its anchoring it in the history of political and social thought. Theoretical explanations of the principle of subsidiarity allows also with reference to the Encyclical Letter Quadragesimo anno to select two negative and two positive description of individuals as ‘intermediate bodies’ and as ‘bigger’ and ‘higher’ communities. The latter are obliged to ‘help for self help’. When it proves effective, they should no longer provide help, but are obliged to make a ‘subsidiary reduction’. Using the language of Caritas in Veritate, it means that provided assistance ‘always implies the effect of emancipation’. Caritas in Veritate contains new elements of understanding subsidiarity; among others, the importance and meaning of civil society in overcoming contemporary social issues. Appropriate is ‘the logic of the gift’ that goes beyond ‘the logic of the market’ and ‘the political logic’. The perspective of subsidiarity seems to be useful in the management of globalization; this perspective considers the concept of development and reform of the social and tax systems (the notion of ‘the fiscal subsidiarity’). This perspective could be useful for those who are looking for solutions of the current economic crisis.

    In the progress of their work teachers are building their personal educational concepts concerning children’s thinking and learning. From this result implemented ways of conducting the process of teaching-learning. The prerequisites to build own opinions on the profession, professional experience from work with various groups in different socio-cultural environments, as well as current social demands. Differentiation of students and possibilities obliges teachers to choose the form of students help, in some manner deviating from the main group of peers. In the article the models folk pedagogies (by J. Bruner) was opposed to convictions of Polish teachers.
    Nauczyciele w toku swojej pracy budują osobiste koncepcje eduka-cyjne dotyczące myślenia i uczenia się dzieci. Z nich wynikają realizowane sposo-by prowadzenia procesu nauczania-uczenia się. Przesłankami do budowy własne-go ujmowania procesu są: wiedza teoretyczna nabywana w trakcie przygotowania do zawodu, doświadczenie zawodowe gromadzone w pracy z różnymi grupami w odmiennych środowiskach społeczno-kulturalnych oraz aktualne oczekiwania społeczne. Zróżnicowanie możliwości uczniowskich obliguje nauczycieli do do-boru form pomocy uczniom w jakiejś mierze odbiegających od głównej grupy rówieśniczej. W artykule zestawiono modele uczenia się dzieci według pedagogii potocznych (J. Brunera) z przekonaniami polskich nauczycieli.

    Artykuł podejmuje problematykę zagadnień dotyczących organizacji pomocy psychologiczno-pedagogicznej w placówce oświatowej. Przedstawiono w nim podstawowe założenia rozporządzenia w sprawie pomocy psychologiczno-pedagogicznej dla ucznia, zasady organizacji pomocy psychologiczno-pedagogicznej w szkole ogólnodostępnej, rolę dyrektora oraz wychowawcy i nauczycieli w tym zakresie, a także formy pomocy psychologiczno-pedagogicznej. Istotę działań pomocowych stanowi właściwa i wieloaspektowa diagnoza dziecka, rozpoznanie jego indywidualnych potrzeb rozwojowych i edukacyjnych, możliwości psychofizycznych i czynników środowiskowych warunkujących jego funkcjonowanie, a także zaspokajanie potrzeb dziecka.
    The article deals with the issues related to the organization of psychological and pedagogical assistance in an educational institution. It presents the basic assumptions of the regulation on psychological and pedagogical help for students, the principles of it organizing in a public school, the role of a headmaster, an educator and a teacher in this area, as well as forms of psychological and pedagogical support. The essence of that assistance consists of the appropriate and multi-faceted diagnosis of a child, recognition of its individual developmental and educational needs, understanding child’s psychophysical possibilities and environmental factors conditioning its functioning, as well as satisfying the child’s needs.
