The experimental research presented in this paper concerning the evaluation and the development of oral ability of Polish children with impaired hearing system. The aim of the research was the assessment, evaluation of positive changes in the level of oral development. The research have been conducted with the use of two computer attachments: Laryngograph Processor PCLX and Nosality, connected to a PC computer. The obtained results and following practical conclusions can serve as guidelines in clinical and logopedical applications in voice rehabilitation and communication development of groups of non-hearing children whose native language is not necessarily Polish.

Opis:
The paper focuses on barriers to the development of a knowledge-based economy in Poland. The author analyzes views about the knowledge-based economy presented in professional literature. She examines the conditions for the development of the economy, considering changes in geographic factors and economic policy. Her analysis of the knowledge-based economy is based on a presentation of statistical data and reports. Lissowska also considers information on the European Union’s plans to enhance research and innovation across Europe. The analysis shows that the knowledge-based economy is insufficiently developed and differs unfavorably from the state prior to transition and from the average state displayed by other EU countries with a similar level of development. Industrial enterprises display insufficient initiative, with little involvement among foreign-owned companies to create innovation in their research centers in Poland. Small technology-oriented firms have made little effort despite their intellectual potential and possibilities. The main barriers to the development of the knowledge-based economy include the unfavorable legacy of the period prior to transition and imperfect industrial and innovation policies, along with an inadequate institutional and organizational environment. These imperfections may aggravate the vicious circle of uncertainty by adding to risk avoidance among suppliers of capital and an insufficient absorption of innovation, the author concludes. To tap the existing intellectual potential and make good use of the growing amount of funds (including EU structural funds and money for research and competitiveness promotion), it is necessary to focus on institutional and organizational tools likely to encourage potential investors and enable them to pursue knowledge-based projects.

To co dzisiaj rozumiemy pod pojęciem rozwoju zrównoważonego to mechanizm, który umożliwi znalezienie takich rozwiązań i norm ludzkiego działania, które pozwolą harmonijne koegzystować. Rozwijający się indywidualizm i indywidualne podejście do własnych poglądów staje się przyzwyczajeniem. Trudno jest przyjąć i kochać całą ludzkość razem z jej marnością, trudno jest kochać świat bardziej niż własny umysł. Celem dialogu jest lepsze zrozumienie innego człowieka i jego wiary, głębsze zrozumienie również swojej wiary. Dzięki wzajemnemu rozumieniu siebie może można by wytyczyć ewentualne przestrzenie koegzystencji i ustalić obszar możliwej współpracy. Wszechświat jest tajemnicą i niepewnością, a ludzkość dąży do budowania trwałych, bezpiecznych bastionów. Takim bastionem ma być współistnienie w harmonii, a narzędziem zrównoważony rozwój.
What we understand today as sustainable development is a mechanism allowing for harmonious coexistence. However, developing individualism and an individual approach regarding one's own views becomes a habit. It is difficult to accept and love the whole of humanity together with its wretchedness; and it is more difficult to love the world than one's own mind. This dialogue aims at a better understanding of each person's own faith. By way of mutual understanding it might be possible to specify possible "spaces" in which we can coexist, and to establish a forum for cooperation. The universe is both a mystery and an insecure environment, and humanity aims to build a permanent and safe bastion within it, by way of harmonious coexistence alongside which sustainable development is used as a tool.

Artykuł bazuje na opracowaniu „Strategia Rozwoju Infrastruktury Lotnictwa Cywilnego na Mazowszu”, wykonanym w Instytucie Geografii i Przestrzennego Zagospodarowania PAN w 2008 roku dla Mazowieckiego Biura Planowania Przestrzennego oraz dla władz samorządowych województwa mazowieckiego. Przede wszystkim przedstawiono skrót analiz istniejącego i przewidywanego popytu na przewozy lotnicze w oparciu o potencjał demograficzny, ekonomiczny oraz rozwój turystyki, a następnie wariantową analizę dostępności przestrzennej, posługując się wypracowaną oryginalną metodyką delimitacji obszarów rynkowych. Przeprowadzone badania posłużyły dla postawienia wniosków lokalizacyjnych w postaci tabeli waloryzacyjnej, przydatnej do wyboru budowy lub rozbudowy lotnisk regionalnych na Mazowszu. Ma to znaczenie z punktu widzenia możliwości opracowania wariantowych scenariuszy rozwoju transportu lotniczego w regionie, zdeterminowanych przede wszystkim rozwojem innej infrastruktury oraz kształtowaniem się popytu.

What do parents know about their children’s vocabulary? A questionnaire/checklist study of lexical development in children aged 2–6The paper presents a study on lexical development of Polish children aged 2–6. Three tools were constructed for this purpose: “The Child Lexicon Development Questionnaire/Checklist”, “The Questionnaire: Communication and Family Routines“ and a personal questionnaire. All were filled in by children’s parents. The first tool comprised nouns, verbs and adjectives drawn in a layered drawing from the Frequency List of Polish Language Corpus (PWN, 2004). The next two consisted of questions related to interactions in the family, social environment and family SES. Data from 148 children were analyzed. Results revealed non-linear lexical growth with age, positive impact of diversified interactions with parents as well as of a number of different games/play situations with peers on children’s vocabulary. Interactions with parents mainly affected noun and adjective vocabulary, while the number of plays with peers affected verb vocabulary.

In the present world information and knowledge are important elements of the local course of every stage of the civil service. Information delivered to local community contributes to achieving a high local identity level. Development of information function in gminas is being extorted by permanent progress in the scope of the information and communication technologies (ICT). In local society, the most important way of holding information should be Internet. It is important because more and more households in rural area have opportunities to the access to the Internet. Local society can use websites erected by local governments to disseminate information about functioning and action picked up in administrative districts to local actors. Transparent websites are becoming a source of information as well as they let achieve the competitive edge above other gminas. An attempt of assessment of providing information by authorities and usefulness of this information from a socio-economic development point of view is the purpose of the paper. Building transparent and available websites for local society is the important task for local governments, because well-informed society participates in local life and in local undertaking picked up by authorities. This is important, especially in the rural gminas located in metropolitan areas which must achieve the competitive edge above other gminas. The paper shows that that the information constituting the indispensable element of social and economic processes becomes more and more universal and serves publicizing and nationalizing decision-making processes.

Development strategies, according to regional policies, should be based on community partnership. In practice it means that documents should be simple and comprehensible, also through application of various communication methods. Local Authorities in Poland gradually evolve towards concise development plans, but a role of graphic expression is marginal. However illustrations are very effective form of communication and influencing development policies.

Nauczanie Kościoła na temat środków społecznego przekazu wielokrotnie dotyka problematyki wychowania dzieci i młodzieży. Mass media wzięły bowiem na siebie niektóre zadania rodziny czy szkoły, proponując i promując różne wartości. W ten sposób przekaz medialny dotyka samego serca życia rodzinnego. Celem artykułu jest ukazanie skutecznych sposobów przezwyciężenia zagrożeń wynikających z traktowania dziecka jako łatwego konsumenta mediów. W dokumentach Kościoła znajdziemy szereg wskazówek dawanych twórcom środków przekazu, rodzicom, nauczycielom i władzom publicznym, które mogą pomóc w wychowaniu dziecka do mądrego i krytycznego korzystania z mediów. Biorą one pod uwagę bezbronność dziecka wobec świata i wobec osób dorosłych, jak również ich otwartość na każdy medialny przekaz. Tylko wykształcenie w dziecku krytycznych zdolności może zapoczątkować proces budzenia w nim zachowań prospołecznych.
Children – open to messages and sensations and often thoughtless – are the most immediate recipients of mass media. In the world of new technologies it is often media that “bring up” children. In this way media content penetrates the very heart of the family. Market reports confirm that the youngest children are excessive media consumers. Documents of the Church show effective ways to overcome the threats arising from treating children as media consumers. Within these documents we can find a number of suggestions given to media professionals, parents, teachers and authorities, which may help to teach children to be wise and critical users of media. Those pieces of advice take into account children’s vulnerability and their openness to any media message. It is obvious that parents, as the primary and most important educators of their children, are also the first to teach them about media. They should develop critical thinking of their children and provide a good example by their own thoughtful and selective use of media. Moreover, parents should teach children to use their free time in a rational way and open them to a culture which rejects everything that is contrary to human dignity. Only in this way the pro‑social behaviour of children like friendly interaction, altruism, reduction of aggression and stereotypes can be encouraged.

One of the fundamentals of development in each European country in the northeast is the proper transport infrastructure. Despite of the enormous increase in traffic on all sorts of roads, the modernization and building of new transport corridors lags. Obecnie coraz większy nacisk w procesie nauczania kładzie się na rozwijanie umiejętności ogólnych. W społeczeństwie opartym na wiedzy duże znaczenie ma kreatywność. W artykule stawiam tezę, że jej rozwijanie w toku zajęć i prezentacji studentów jest równie ważne jak sama zawartość prezentacji, a kompetencje ogólne należy poszerzać stale w toku nauczania, nie czyniąc ich odrębnym tematem zajęć. Rozwijanie kreatywności opiera się na kilku podstawowych zasadach, które zostały przedstawione w pierwszej części artykułu. Część druga zawiera przykłady prezentacji studentów. Zostały one umownie podzielone na następujące kategorie: 1) Tematy biznesowe (marketing, finanse, bankowość itp.); 2) Komunikacja w biznesie (umiejętności praktyczne: ustne – na przykład negocjacje, zebrania itp.; pisemne – listy, memoranda, informacje prasowe itp.; zagadnienia teoretyczne – na przykład mowa ciała, komunikacja w organizacji itp.); 3) Obszary zainteresowań związane z tematyką biznesową lub komunikacją w biznesie (zastosowanie wiedzy dotyczącej słownictwa i/lub umiejętności w rozwijaniu własnych zdolności i umiejętności). Artykuł kładzie nacisk na poszczególne elementy procesu dydaktycznego, takie jak: atmosfera w grupie, odpowiedni poziom i standard nauczania, wzmacnianie motywacji i osiągnięć, zdrowa konkurencja i praca w grupie, które służą rozwijaniu postaw i zachowań kreatywnych. W trakcie realizacji swoich „projektów” studenci jako ich „właściciele” czują się w pełni odpowiedzialni za ich końcowy kształt. Są oni zainteresowani zarówno pracą w mniejszych, konkurujących ze sobą grupach projektowych, jak i w dużej grupie pracującej nad różnymi aspektami wspólnego przedsięwzięcia. Możliwość zaprezentowania własnego produktu dodatkowo wzmacnia ich motywację. Im większym sukcesem jest zakończony dany projekt, tym bardziej są oni motywowani do dalszego rozwijania swoich umiejętności. Stres i lęk związany z publicznym wystąpieniem stopniowo zanika i studenci z biegiem czasu coraz bardziej udoskonalają swój „produkt końcowy”. Na podstawie analizy różnych elementów i aspektów dotychczasowych projektów studentów w końcowej części artykułu przedstawione zostały wnioski i podsumowanie dotyczące istotnych cech metody projektowej z naciskiem na jej wkład w rozwój kreatywności.
Presently more and more stress is being put on possessing general skills, and both experts and the whole knowledge-based society seem to agree on the essential value of creativity. My statement would be that, even if general skills are not being taught as a separate subject of a course, it is crucial for them to be developed and worked on as a part of substantive skills’ teaching processes. The general framework for creativity building is based on some underlying principles which are presented in the first part of the article. In the second part I analyze students’ presentations, which can be classified in three broad categories: 1) Business topics (marketing, finance, banking, etc) 2) Business communication (skills: oral – eg. negotiations, meetings, etc., written – letters, memos, press releases, etc.; theory – eg. body language, organizational communication, etc.) 3) Areas of interest related to 1&2, using the knowledge of business vocabulary and business (or, more generally, organizational) communication to develop own skills and abilities The factors analyzed are: atmosphere in the group, setting standards and the level of advancement, motivating, reinforcing achievements, introducing healthy competition and teamwork. All of these factors are crucial for the development of creativity. Working on their projects students consider themselves to be fully responsible for the final result. They appreciate both cooperating in smaller teams opposed to each other as well working as in a big group for a joint undertaking. The possibility of presenting their own project additionally reinforces their motivation. The more worthwhile and successful their work turns out to be, the more motivated they are to further develop their skills. Stress related to “public appearance” gradually disappears and they are able to concentrate on improving their “final product”. Conclusions drawn from the analysis of projects completed by my students are presented in the final part of the article. It also presents basic features of project method, stressing its importance in the process of developing creativity.

This article explores the potential offered by complexity theories for understanding language learners’ sense of self and attempts to show how the self might usefully be conceived of as a complex dynamic system. Rather than presenting empirical findings, the article discusses existent research on the self and aims at outlining a conceptual perspective that may inform future studies into the self and possibly other individual learner differences. The article concludes by critically considering the merits of a complexity perspective but also reflecting on the challenges it poses for research.

Opis:
Na tle przemian cywilizacyjnych ludzkości dokonano charakterystyki i genezy powstania społeczeństwa informacyjnego. Społeczeństwo to w rozwoju ludzkości zaprezentowane zostało na przykładach wyszczególnionych przemian technicznych oraz społecznych. Ukazano trudności metodologiczne badań diagnostycznych dotyczących poziomu rozwoju społeczeństwa informacyjnego oraz konieczne do uwzględnienia w takiej ocenie zakresy zjawisk.
A characteristic and development of information society on the background of civilization humanity changes have been presented. Some examples of the technical and social changes of information society in the development of humanity have been described. It shows the methodological difficulties in diagnostic tests for level of development of information society and the need to include in the assessment range of phenomena.
