Opis:
Forty eight inbred lines of winter rye, of various origin and pedigree, were analysed using 19 RAPD (random amplified polymorphic DNA) primers, 8 ISSR (inter-simple sequence repeats) primers and 13 SSR (simple sequence repeats) primer pairs. On the basis of particular marker types, there were created three separate dendrograms and one combined similarity tree, prepared on account of the whole data. Correlation coefficients for individual technique based on genetic similarity matrices were not significant. By comparing the GS data obtained on the basis of singular methods with collective matrix, it was observed that the highest correlation rate was for ISSR method (r=0.68). The utility of each marker technique was compared by using marker index MI. Diversity detecting index (DDI) was suggested in the paper, which may prove helpful in planning and comparing researches on phenetic relationships...

Opis:
Trees are significant components of ecosystems built by several widespread species. For instance, Papua forest is known to comprise abiotic and biotic elements. Also, certain plants have grown in popu- larity to a point where they are discovered almost everywhere. The purpose of this study, therefore, was to investigate tree diversity, distribution, and the importance of conservation. Data were collected in four locations using a total of 24 sample plots spread across Idoor, Karst, Persemaian, and Torembi, where seven, four, seven, and five plots were allocated, respectively. These forests formed a mixed natural plantation comprising 76 species from 35 families. Furthermore, Idoor and Karst generated the highest species diver- sity and varied significantly compared to Persemaian, while Torembi showed similarities with the other three locations. This condition formed three ecosystem communities across Persemaian, Karst, Idoor, and Torembi. Also, the composition of the dominant species showed variations at the seedling and sapling levels believed to structure the understory, while the pole and tree levels characterized the overstory. The total species status was described as critically endangered (CR) of two species, vulnerable (VU) of six species, least con- cern (LC) of 28 species, and data deficient (DD) species. Therefore, location management is advised to not only pay significant attention in terms of economic benefits but also ecological, including the provisions for ex-situ and in-situ conservation to support sustainable forest management.

Opis:
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to assess the innovation activities of companies in the EU countries, taking into consideration the external factors. Design/methodology/approach: This article focuses on the analysis of the most frequently used factors determining the external conditions of the companies innovation activities with the use of taxonomic analysis. The research was conducted on the annual data for years 2017-2019 for the selected European countries. The data from the databases of OECD and Eurostat were used in the analysis. Findings: The results of the conducted analysis allow to conclude that the state and organisation of innovation activities in the economy and thus, in the companies is strongly dependent on external factors. The averages and quartiles were calculated to show the dynamics of the factors. Moreover, Ward dendrogram was presented to show the similarities and differences in shaping the innovation activities. The synthetic indicator was used to determine the development path and the map of objects was drawn. There is a strict connection between the amount of expenditures on R&D and the employees’ education concerning the implementation of the innovation activities in all analysed countries. In particular, it is visible in the Scandinavian countries and in Luxembourg. In Poland the innovation activities of companies is similar to the ones in the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. The low level of GERD causes that many companies have financial problems and despite high dynamics of industrial production, the innovativeness is still at a low level. Research limitations/implications: The comparison of Poland with other countries would surely give a wider picture whether the innovation processes are performed in an efficient way. The accessibility of data, for each country, used in the research not only limited the period of analysis but also determined the selection of variables. The analysis was based on the data from the mentioned databases to make it more reliable. Practical implications: The information obtained during the conducted analysis may facilitate the process of proper decision making referring to the management of innovations. The implementation of innovations guarantees not only the company development but also greater transparency in the information and knowledge flow among the workers. Originality/value: The analysis of external factors of the innovation activities is really important as the investments in innovation activities are the more and more important GDP part and the numerical taxonomy methods enable to indicate, indirectly, these countries which should be models for Poland so that it could organise and manage the innovation processes. The analysis of innovation activities makes it possible to indicate desired directions of changes in the management of Polish companies. Thus, it is a basis to take decisions in the competitive markets.

Opis:
This article describes the simple technology of the hierarchical agglomerative cluster analysis of 20 different libraries, presented by the samples of classification attributes of the same volumes. It is necessary to construct a proximity matrix for an effective process of cluster analysis, using the data from the table “library-classification features”. For separating a set of selected objects into clusters, so that each of them has objects, the most appropriate for its type, it is necessary to create a table “object-property”, where libraries are objects and individual and equal dimension vectors (sets) of characteristic classification features are properties. To do this you should: form the set of libraries that are the objects of clustering; define for each library the set of classification features and its power (volume) in the same nominal scale; choose the value scale of classification features; form a table object-property. This technology is implemented in the environment of MsExcel-2003. It includes the transformation of one-dimensional data into multi-dimensional indexes, using the descriptive statistics and distributions of individual parameters, the creation of the “object-property” table, the building of the proximity matrix, the definition of the dendrogram structure and the cluster interpretation. The application of clustering method can further focus on creating algorithms of effective information search, and also building the scientifically-reasonable classification systems orientated on the library science. The method of hierarchical agglomerative cluster analysis can be used with typological or semantic distribution of library funds, or studying of their thematic and specific composition. This method can be considered as universal, that gives an opportunity to formalize the typology division of any objects of librarianship.

Opis:
The anatomical and morphological diversity of Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) needles was investigated in nine Polish populations grown on the experimental plots at the Forest Experimental Station of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences – SGGW (Rogów, Central Poland). The experiment started in 1966 and the needle samples were collected from the trees cut down during the thinning treatment in 2016. The following needle traits were measured: (1) length, (2) width, (3) thickness, (4) cross−sectional area of the transfusion tissue, (5) epidermis thickness, (6) width to thickness of the needle cross section ratio, (7) distance between the vascular bundles, (8) number of resin ducts, and (9) length of the needle scales. The results showed that trees from the provenances differ with respect to the studied needle features, however, the differences, for individual traits, are relatively small and in most cases are statistically insignificant as measured by the Kruskal−Wallis test. Statistically significant differences (p<0.05) were found only in case of such features as the number of resin ducts and the length of needle scales. The results may suggest that the environmental conditions of the Polish lowland are not sufficiently diversified to induce clear differences between the individual morphological and anatomical traits of pine needles. However, despite the relatively small differences between the studied populations regarding individual traits, the use of the UPGMA (Unweighted Pair Group Method with Arithmetic mean) dendrogram, taking into consideration the combined effect of all the examined traits of needles, allowed to separate geographically the tested Polish provenances into three groups: I – mid−western (Rogów, Bolewice, Spała, Karsko, Gubin, Tabórz), II – north−eastern (Rospuda, Starzyna) and III – south−eastern (Janów Lubelski). It is suggested that this may be related both to the ability of Scots pine to adapt to local conditions as well as the possibility that the geographical groups of tested populations originated from three different main glacial refugia.

Globally, more than 5.2 billion hectares of farming fields are damaged through erosion, salinity, and soil deterioration. Salt stress-tolerant bacteria have plant growth-promoting (PGP) characteristics that can be used to overcome environmental stresses. Isolation and screening of salt-tolerant endophytes from Bougainvillea glabra were achieved through surface sterilization of leaves, followed by their cultivation on 0.5% NaCl-supplemented media. The performance of isolates for indole acetic acid (IAA) production, phosphate solubilization, ACC deaminase activity, ammonia production, siderophore production, and stress tolerance was determined. In the present study, 5 morphologically distinct salt-tolerant endophytic bacteria were cultured. Out of 5 isolates, 60% salt-tolerant endophytes showed phosphate solubilization, 100% IAA production, 40% ACC-deaminase activity, 100% siderophore production, 40% ammonia production and 60% HCN production. Dendrogram generated based on stress tolerance showed three clusters: clusters 1 and 2 containing two isolates and cluster 3 containing 1 isolate. Based on the highest PGP activities, BoGl17 and BoGl21 isolates were chosen and further tested for wheat and corn growth promotion. The isolates increased wheat shoot and root dry weight by 40% and 80%, and by 69% and 126% for BoGl17 and BoGl21, respectively. The bacterial isolates identified as Pseudomonas reidholzensis BoGl17 had 95.59% identity with Pseudomonas reidholzensis strain ID3, while the isolate Bacillus aerius BoGl21 had 90.96% identity with Bacillus aerius strain 24K based on phenotypic features and 16S rRNA gene sequencing results. Both isolates significantly improved plant growth as compared to uninoculated plants.

Opis:
This paper introduces the most basic concepts of the compositional analysis of data with a simple but real example form the Management and Production Engineering (MPE) field. Compositional Data (CoDa) are vectors of positive elements that represent parts of a whole and are widely found in MPE, i.e. production times, resource composition, percentage utilization of work stands, waste components. . . The need for an analysis based on ratios of components (or better log-ratios of components) is illustrated step by step, and findings are compared to the corresponding standard methods applied to raw compositions. The paper also exposes the principles of CoDa analysis and presents two basic descriptive tools suitable for CoDa: the clr-biplot and the CoDa dendrogram. The example is a time series, from 1994 to 2013, of motor vehicle production in 8 countries and regions.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the hierarchical structure of the European capital markets in the periods before and after the Global Financial Crisis of 2007-2009. The author uses weekly logarithmic stock market returns of the 28 main indexes of the European exchanges, both from the developed and developing markets, in the period 2000-2016. The examination is based on agglomerative clustering methods, primarily on the Ward’s linkage method. The results show that the Global Financial Crisis has changed the hierarchy of the markets. They also indicate which groups of markets are most strongly interconnected.

Opis:
Dendrografie to zapisy, których tematem lub wzorcem strukturalnym są drzewa i lasy. Autorka prezentuje szeroką panoramę alternatywnych ujęć tematu „drzewnego” w humanistycznej (rodzimej i tłumaczonej) literaturze przedmiotu w Polsce w drugiej dekadzie XXI wieku. Zauważa w literaturze (artystycznej i naukowej) wzrost frekwencji tematyki drzewnej i leśnej, generowany konfliktem wokół Puszczy Białowieskiej, a także coraz bardziej dolegliwymi konsekwencjami katastrofy klimatycznej.
Dendrographies are records whose theme or structural pattern is trees and forests. The author presents a wide panorama of alternative takes of the theme of “wood” in humanistic (Polish and translated) literature on the subject in Poland in the second decade of the 21st century. She notes in the literature (artistic and academic) an increase in the number of people who are interested in wood and forests, generated by the conflict around the Białowieża Primeval Forest, as well as by the increasingly afflictive consequences of the climatic disaster. She notes the transformation of discursive and symbolic takes, in which the tree dominated, into desymbolised, material and affective takes, in which the forest as a collective organism dominates. A similar transformation is taking place in organic modelling: there is a transition from the dendrogram to the mycogram (mycelium) as a functional model of natural, social and cultural phenomena. The article also serves as an introduction to the journal’s volume and prefigures the topics of the articles contained therein.
