The article is concerned with Norwid’s critical opinions connected with the January Uprising. The period preceding it, abounding in great patriotic-religious demonstrations in Warsaw, was considered by the poet as a very positive and by all means original one. On the other hand, he thought that the very uprising and its course was a secondary act, devoid of logic and aim. The author of Fulminant repeated his judgments, sometimes harsh ones, in the memorials, letters and poetical works that he wrote at that time. His critical opinions of the low level of the insurrectionist press, or the unwilling participation of the Polish intelligentsia in the insurrectionist actions, were not always just and true. In many cases Norwid simply did not accept historical facts. Maybe it was his personal traumas of an underestimated, or even rejected poet, that were voiced in this way. The attitude of a prophet shouting in the wilderness was a temptation that was difficult to resist. The awareness of his own mission, the imperative that he should proclaim the truth, encouraged Norwid to assume uncompromising stances. He tried to render the position of alienation, or even of rejection by referring to Sophocles’  legendary figure, Philoctetes, bit by a venomous snake and left by the Greeks on the island of Lemnos. The writer’s numerous press articles written in the period of the Uprising will be those magic, but unable to reach the target, arrows shot by Philoctetes.

Titles, seals and coats of arms of Lithuanian dukes have not been hitherto the subject of interest of historians as this issue was mainly addressed marginally in the studies on the symbols of power of Grand Dukes of Lithuania, particularly Jagiellons. Owing to the considerable number and diversification of dukes living in the territory of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania prior to the Union of Lublin, the article focuses on the analysis of titles, seals and coats of arms used by the Gediminas family and their descendants. In the period under discussion the dukes played a major social and political role, particularly at the end of the 14th century and at the beginning of the 15th century since they ruled their own feudal duchies and cooperated (or competed) closely with the Grand Duke. Although in the 15th century they lost their political sovereignty and became part of the class of landowners, they continued to keep many privileges and still played a major role in political and social life, particularly in their provinces. Enjoying the authority and extensive influence, the dukes generated the set of symbols of power and importance, which is worth examining. The analysis of the most representative monuments shows that titles, seals and coats of arms constituted a kind of indicator reflecting the social status and the position of the Gediminas family in the country: different symbols defined the rank of the Gediminas family as feudal dukes, and different symbols referred to their position as wealthy landowners. Both in the first and second situation, the dukes were capable of using the symbols in such a way so as to create their propaganda image and express far-reaching political aspirations. The symbolism of grand dukes, in particular one of the Jagiellons, was available to the dukes and they willingly used it. The fact of being inspired by the monarch’s symbols seems to differentiate Lithuanian dukes from other branches of the ruling European dynasties. It may mean that dukes considered the fact of being related to grand dukes rather than their wealth to be the source of their power and importance.

In their action, the Russian authorities use a number of different tools, military strength being one of the key ones. Russia’s neo-imperial ambitions are reflected in the new strategic and doctrinal documents. They follow a more confrontational line and emphasize Russia’s desire to frame a new architecture of international security. In pursuing its strategic goals, Russia has undertaken a comprehensive programme of technical upgrade of its armed forces, launches impressive military exercise programmes and militarizes the society. The worsening international situation at the beginning of the 21st century, as a derivative of the growing power and importance of the Russian Federation, posed a threat to the countries of the former Warsaw Pact. The aim of the article is to discuss the military tools employed in the foreign policy of the Russian Federation, both direct and indirect. In areas of strategic interest outside the post-Soviet area, they mainly take an indirect form. An example of Russia’s desire to restore its imperial influence is demonstrations of its strategic combat capabilities, including by taking provocative action in the western direction.

Opis:
Purpose: To develop a new concept of laboratory support for learners at different levels of education to maintain a high education quality in conditions of limited opportunities, such as lockdown, lack of funding, etc. Design/methodology/approach: To create a new concept, the practical experience of school teachers, educators of technical colleges and universities, research workers, as well as experience of scientists in the educational field published in open information' sources was taken into account. The development of a new concept was carried out from 2014 to 2016, and its implementation, introduction into the educational process, and possible ways to solve technical and organizational difficulties from 2016 to the present. In the last year, special attention was paid to distance learning. Findings: The development and the first practical steps to implement the new concept of updating the laboratory support of educational institutions clearly demonstrate of its practical implementation' feasibility. Positive consequences from the implementation were identified as constant improvement of laboratory equipment, increase in the educators’ level, transformation of virtual distance learning based on lectures and videos into real learning with "live" visual demonstration of physical, chemical, biological and other processes and experimental research. As a recommendation, should wish that at the state level to recommend the implementation of this approach and to propose some legal mechanisms to overcome identified problems. Research limitations/implications: The present study was conducted for Ukrainian educational institutions with the involvement of foreign students from different countries studying in Ukraine. Practical implications: The introduction of a new concept into the educational process in countries with a weak economy will improve the educational quality and reduce the cost of creating laboratory support. Originality/value: Equipment should not only be a teaching tool, but also a teaching subject.

Since most pressing today on a global scale is to be able to unite religion, philosophy, and science into parts of a coherent civilizational whole, and since the ability to unite a multitude into parts of a coherent whole essentially requires understanding the natures of the things and the way they can or cannot be essentially related, this paper chiefly considers precisely why the modern world has been unable to effect this union. In so doing, it argues that the chief cause of this inability to unite these cultural natures has been because the contemporary world, and the West especially, has lost its understanding of philosophy and science and has intentionally divorced from essential connection to wisdom. Finally, it proposes a common sense way properly to understand these natures, reunite them to wisdom, and revive Western and global civilization.

This paper presents research that has been carried out to analyze a relation between implementation of simple experiments in teaching sciences, and pupils’ positive attitude towards learning physics. Investigation was conducted on a random sample of 495 sixth – and seventh-grade pupils from primary schools in Novi Sad. The obtained results are statistically treated. Analysis of results shows that the use of simple experiments for a particular case is related to pupils’ attitude toward learning physics. Also, it is shown that approximately twice higher percentage of pupils that were taught with the use of hands-on experiments like to learn science than pupils who were taught with the use of demonstration experiments or without experiments. They do not learn by heart, they understand science and it helps them to develop a scientific world view that makes it easier for them to find their way in today’s world.

Less has been said about the hand movements of the film makers, their cultural dimension and the place of this "corporate language" in the film making process, probably because this object is difficult to capture even with a diary. Gestures go too fast to be sketched on the spot and often faster than the perception of the ethnographer. Some of these gestures are made to stabilize the frame or simulate the camera movement but lots of them are difficult to classify and don't fall into this category, like the ones which are produced to accompany the actors' action or to invite him to perform a certain action and which have more to do with a mode of demonstration involving the entire body. This article, mostly based on videos of Bombay film makers at work, tries to identify the specificity of these gestures in terms of communication or interaction and their potential of coordination in the film set dynamics.

This article argues that, strictly speaking, from its inception with the ancient Greeks and for all time, philosophy and science are identical and consist in an essential relationship between a specific type of understanding of the human person as possessed of an intellectual soul capable of being habituated and a psychologically-independent composite whole, or organization. It maintains, further, that absence of either one of the extremes of this essential relationship cannot be philosophy/science and, if mistaken for such and applied to the workings of cultural institutions, will generate anarchy within human culture and make leadership excellence impossible to achieve. Finally, it argues that only a return to this “common sense” understanding of philosophy can generate the leadership excellence that can save the West from its current state of cultural and civilizational anarchy.

W debacie Eunomiusza z Grzegorzem z Nyssy obie strony konfliktu używały jako podstawowego i nieodpartego argumentu stwierdzenia, że głoszone przez nich tezy są powszechnie przyjęte. Obaj stosowali na określenie twierdzenia powszechnie przyjętego termin tÕ ÐmologoÚmenon, który w tradycji filozoficznej wywodzącej się od Arystotelesa oznaczał prawdziwą i pewną przesłankę prowadzącą do wiedzy absolutnej. W takim znaczeniu termin ten był szeroko stosowany nie tylko w filozofii – zamiennie z wyrażeniem koinaˆ oennoiai – ale także w retoryce. Ta właśnie argumentacja używana zarówno przez Eunomiusza, jak i przez Grzegorza z Nyssy, dowodzi, że ich dyskusja nie była czymś, co dzisiaj nazwalibyśmy kwestią religijną, ale prawdziwą naukową/filozoficzną debatą, prowadzoną zgodnie z powszechnie przyjętymi (nomen omen!) zasadami.
During the debate between Eunomius and Gregory of Nyssa as a basic and irrefutable argument both parties to the conflict used the statement that the theses they promoted were commonly accepted. Both of them defined the commonly accepted statement with the Greek term tÕ ÐmologoÚmenon which in the philosophical tradition derived from Aristotle meant true and reliable premiss that led to absolute knowledge. In such a meaning that term – interchangeably with the expression koinaˆ oennoiai – was used not only in philosophy but also in rhetoric. The methods used by Eunomius and Gregory of Nyssa show that their dispute was not what we would today call a religious issue, but a truly scientific/philosophical debate conducted in accordance with the commonly accepted (nomen omen!) rules.

New trends in education are one of the priorities of each educational institution. Quality, technical equipment of schools, knowledgeable educators, but above all the effort of leadership, whether the management to generate qualitative and innovative environment for teachers and pupils, is a guarantee of higher levels of education and subsequently, to education. Information-communication technologies (ICT) are increasingly becoming a part of not only the General, but also for vocational education. New technology, computer technology and software are intended to help in improving the level of creative abilities of teachers and students, which is the output of the qualitative growth of the pupil, and then the society. The contribution demonstrates several ways of using ICT and the associated interaction during class of Electrotechnics using whiteboard, presentation or demonstration workbook. Efficiency and quality of this teaching hours, is then compared with the traditional teaching. The relevant contribution is a stimulus to creativity of teachers and educators to provide students the highest possible quality of education that schools provide.

Opis:
An historical background to the teaching of chemistry is presented, together with examples of great teachers from the past. Some aspects of the modern English school chemistry syllabus are discussed, both from the point of view of its theoretical content and its aim in helping children to develop practical skills. Chemistry Clubs, Open days and popular science lectures are also mentioned as a means of stimulating interest in chemistry as taught in schools.
W artykule przedstawiono tło historyczne nauczania chemii; podano także przykłady wybitnych nauczycieli z przeszłości. Omówiono wybrane elementy programu nauczania chemii w szkołach angielskich z punktu widzenia zawartości teoretycznej, jak również przydatności w rozwijaniu przez uczniów umiejętności praktycznych. Jako dodatkowe sposoby wzbudzania zainteresowania chemią szkolną przedstawiono także działalność kółek chemicznych, organizowanie dni otwartych oraz wykładów popularnonaukowych.

Opis:
The reliability demonstration test (RDT) programs in general proceed at various levels, including component, subsystem, and system in the verification and validation phase of the product life cycle. The system reliability demonstration within feasible duration becomes a considerable issue because of the marketplace demands for decreased development time and cost. A method based on reliability target transformation is proposed to accomplish the system reliability demonstration with the data from the RDT of the components. In order to shorten the test time, the RDT plan for component under the accelerated condition is first designed. Then, the reliability target of the system with different lifetimes required by the producer and the consumer is transferred to the target with the same specified mission time, which should meet the time constraint of the system level test. Next, the lower limit confidence of component reliability at the system mission time are estimated and converted to the equivalent binomial component data by the curve fitting method, then they are synthesized to the equivalent binomial system data by the Bayesian method. Finally, the system reliability demonstration is considered. The system classical attribute acceptance sampling plan at the mission time is used to make decisions using the equivalent binomial system data. If the decision cannot be made, the system Bayesian attribute acceptance sampling plan will be designed with the equivalent data as the prior parameters and the complementary system test will be conducted.
Ogólnie, oprogramowanie do badań stwierdzających niezawodność (RDT) można stosować na różnych poziomach, w tym na poziomie elementu składowego, podsystemu i systemu, w fazie weryfikacji i walidacji cyklu życia produktu. Stwierdzenie niezawodności systemu w realnym terminie staje się ważkim problemem ze względu na wymogi rynku co do zmniejszenia czasu i kosztów rozwoju. W prezentowanej pracy zaproponowano metodę opartą na transformacji celu niezawodnościowego, wedle której niezawodność systemu stwierdza się na podstawie danych z RDT części składowych. Aby skrócić czas testowania, w pierwszej kolejności tworzy się plan RDT dla części składowej w warunkach przyspieszonych. Następnie cel niezawodnościowy systemu przy różnych czasach pracy wymaganych przez producenta, jak i konsumenta, zostaje przetransponowany na cel o tym samym określonym czasie użytkowania, który powinien spełniać ograniczenie czasowe dla badań na poziomie systemu. Następnie szacuje się dolne granice przedziałów ufności dla niezawodności komponentów w określonym czasie eksploatacji systemu oraz przekształca się je na równoważne dane dwumienne dla części składowych z wykorzystaniem metody dopasowywania krzywych; dalej, są one syntetyzowane do równoważnych dwumiennych danych dotyczących systemu z zastosowaniem metody Bayesa. Pozwala to na stwierdzenie niezawodności systemu. Decyzje podejmuje się na podstawie równoważnych danych dwumiennych dotyczących systemu z wykorzystaniem klasycznego planu wyrywkowej kontroli odbiorczej systemu według zadanych charakterystyk dla określonego czasu użytkowania. Jeżeli decyzja nie może zostać podjęta w ten sposób, konstruuje się bayesowski plan wyrywkowej kontroli odbiorczej systemu wg. zadanych charakterystyk, gdzie dane równoważne stanowią parametry a priori, oraz przeprowadza się uzupełniające badania systemu.

Opis:
Artykuł przedstawia innowacyjny system perymetryczny, umożliwiający monitorowanie mierzalnych parametrów z systemów bezpieczeństwa. Wynikiem realizacji projektu jest demonstrator technologii, który kontroluje na bieżąco krytyczne elementy infrastruktury portów lotniczych. System zawiera moduły, wspomagające działania dyspozytorskie w sytuacji wystąpienia działań kryzysowych, które można integrować z istniejącymi już systemami dyspozytorskimi (SWD). Taka integracja w pełni gwarantuje współpracę z Centrami Powiadamiania Ratunkowego. Dodatkowo stworzono aplikację, pozwalającą na weryfikację tożsamości pasażerów na bazie identyfikacji unikalnych cech biometrycznych. W ramach projektu powstał kompleksowy system informatyczny, zbierający dane o zdarzeniach z monitorowanego obszaru bezpieczeństwa oraz innych systemów dziedzinowych.
The article presents an innovative perimetric system that enables monitoring the measurable parameters from security systems. The result of the project realisation was the technology demonstration that keeps track of the critical elements of the airport infrastructure. The system embraces the modules that support the dispatcher actions in the case of critical situations. It will be possible to integrate these modules with already existent dispatch systems (SWD). That integration guarantees full cooperation with Emergency Call Centers. Additionally, a module for verification of passengers’ identity, based on the identification of their biometric unique characteristics was created. During the project a complex information system was developed. This system collects data about events within the monitored protection area and from other domain systems.

The author briefly discusses performative aspects of demonstration which, in his opinion, is a kind of narration, co-created by the demonstrators as their story about themselves. By providing the example of the March of Independence – a mass demonstration in Warsaw, organised annually on the 11th of November by the Polish nationalists, the author tries to answer the questions: what, to whom and how the street demonstration tells its narrative' and what kind of community the demonstration creates.

Opis:
Article puts under scrutiny a method of measuring the speed of sound in liquids via a laser projection of a standing wave. The range of application of the particular method was examined. A procedure of conducting the demonstration has been formulated based on the analysis of the impact of several parameters of the demonstration setup: particular vessel, depth of the liquid, position of the cone of light with regards to the stationary wave and particular sample used were all evaluated with regards to the quality of the demonstration as well as reliability of the measurement. Applying the procedure in order to quantitatively determine the concentration of a solution has been attempted, as well as usefulness of the method in a demonstration context – examined. As a conclusion, the potential of applying the method for demonstration has been discussed and an instruction for such demonstration has been produced.
