Opis:
The decomposition of diclofenac (DCF) in sewage sludge from municipal wastewater treatment plant was investigated. It was found that adsorption of DCF on sludge is about 40%. Compared to previous studies, where the degradation yield in aqueous solution was 100%, in those experiments at the dose up to 5 kGy, only 50% of initial DCF concentration of 50 mg L−1 was decomposed in sediment and in solution over the sediment. The experiments were carried out using both gamma radiation and electron beam. It has been observed that DCF in the aqueous phase, above the sediment, was decomposed with the same efficiency using both gamma radiation and electron beam. Whereas for DCF in the sediment, a higher degradation efficiency was found when gamma radiation was applied. This is most likely due to the limited penetration depth of the electron beam into the sludge layer. It was shown that the applied peroxide addition (in a stoichiometric amount needed for complete mineralization of 50 mg L−1 DCF) did not cause increase in yield of DCF decomposition.

Opis:
Studnie głębinowe podlegają procesom starzenia i degradacji.
Waterwells are subject to aging and degradation. The efficiency of the well is determined by the size of the skin effect resulting from the occurrence of hydraulic losses in the borehole zone. The well efficiency can be calculated as the ratio of hydraulic losses occurring at the laminar flow to the actual (measured) pressure loss in the well. The correct operation of the well depends on the efficiency of the components, while the reliability of the whole system operation depends mainly on the technical condition of the element whose efficiency deviates most from the initial efficiency. Therefore, ongoing diagnostics of the hydraulic condition of the well’s technical elements is extremely important for maintaining a high level of reliability. Based on the experience gained, the concept of sustainable efficiency was introduced and defined, which can be considered as the operation of the object at technological parameters at which the process of degradation of the object has the slowest possible rate. This approach allows to maintain even aging degradation, both in the borehole and in the surrounding zone, which ultimately increases the chances of successful well renovation.

Opis:
The basis of every hydraulic system is based on energy transformations, which are realized through hydraulic working fluid. Hydraulic oils are certainly subject to changes within their structure, meaning the basic characteristics and parameters of hydraulic oil, such as density, viscosity, humidity. The oils that are exploited are exposed to the process of degradation, which largely leads to significantly poorer quality of hydraulic fluid. The paper deals with the influence of changes in the characteristics of the hydraulic fluid on the hydraulic operating parameters of the gear pump installed on the hydraulic press. The parameters refer to pressure, flow, and temperature, as well as the quality of hydraulic oil, which affects the volumetric efficiency of the pump, and the results presented in the conclusion are based on the measured values of parameters before and after corrective measures. The control of parameters aims to increase the efficiency and reliability of the hydraulic system, a way of modern detection of deviations of parameters from standard, required values.

Opis:
Magnetic circuits of electromagnetic energy converters, such as electrical machines, are nowadays highly utilized. This proposition is intrinsic for the magnetic as well as the electric circuit and depicts that significant enhancements of electrical machines are difficult to achieve in the absence of a detailed understanding of underlying effects. In order to improve the properties of electrical machines the accurate determination of the locally distributed iron losses based on idealized model assumptions solely is not sufficient. Other loss generating effects have to be considered and the possibility being able to distinguish between the causes of particular loss components is indispensable. Parasitic loss mechanisms additionally contributing to the total losses originating from field harmonics, non-linear material behaviour, rotational magnetizations, and detrimental effects caused by the manufacturing process or temperature, are not explicitly considered in the common iron-loss models, probably even not specifically contained in commonly used calibration factors. This paper presents a methodology being able to distinguish between different loss mechanisms and enables to individually consider particular loss mechanisms in the model of the electric machine. A sensitivity analysis of the model parameters can be performed to obtain information about which decisive loss origin for which working point has to be manipulated by the electromagnetic design or the control of the machine.

Opis:
Standard methods for quantifi cation of airborne bacteria are based on cultivation and counting of grown colonies. From complex natural environments it is known that only a small fraction of the total number of cells can be cultivated on routinely used agar-media. Direct microscopic cell counting after DNA-staining usually generates higher concentrations of one to two magnitudes. The objective of the presented study was to compare the concentrations of airborne bacteria sampled in a composting facility by using for any sample the cultivation on trytic soy agar (TSA) – agar, as well as direct counting after DAPI-staining. The concentrations after counting grown colonies were within a range of 105-107 cfu m-3. Concentrations of direct counted cells ranged between 106-109 microbes m-3. In these comparative measurements only 1.5-15.3% of the airborne bacterial cells enumerated by direct counting formed countable colonies after incubation on TSA-agar. Obviously, cultivation based methods underestimate the real amount of airborne microbes. In addition, from literature it is known that inactive or even dead cells can also have the potential to cause health effects. Consequently, a risk assessment based only on measuring colony forming units may, in some cases, not be sufficient.
