    The problem of life and the reality of the family are closely connected and one can safely say that they are almost inseparable. It is enough to look at the documents of the Second Vatican Council to see that marriage and the family are a deep union of married life and love (Gaudium et Spes 48). St. John Paul II in the encyclical Evangelium Vitae highlights the relationship between the family and the gift of life (EV 92). This publication is dedicated to the pastoral support of marriages and families in respect for life. It consists of several parts in which the author presents successively the value and inviolability of human life, describing the basic environment of human life, that is a family whose mission is the transmission and protection of life. Next, we fi nd a discussion of the mission of the Church, which is called to serve man and family and especially to support the family in the affi rmation of life. The article culminates in the presentation of selected forms and ways of pastoral support for the family, including the word of God, the witness of the spouses’ lives, accompanying spouses and family, and concrete actions the Church undertakes to defend life.

    One of the most important manifestations and signs of the new culture of life is unconditional defense of human life from conception to natural death which John Paul II spoke very often about.  Involvement and forms of activity in this field depend on the state of human consciences - from their righteousness. The author shows this fundamental issue in the light of the remains current and relevant today Encyclical Evangelium vitae. At the beginning it refers to the fact that the word conscience is today a commonly used as a moral category, but ambiguously understood. He draws attention that the root of this phenomenon is on the one hand, the practical abandonment of the objective truth known by reason, and, on the other hand, the departure from the faithful revelations of the truths revealed by God. Then he shows his commitment to defending human life as a testimony of right conscience. He stops by the legal protection of human life from conception, indicates to verbal manipulations blurring the truth about actions against human life, and stresses the importance of opposing conscience to unjust law. Finally, he draws the issue of shaping the right conscience in the defense of human life. He indicates to the proclamation of the Gospel of life, at the center of which is the person of Jesus Christ, emphasizes the intellectual aspect of formation of conscience, i.e. need for clear and convincing arguments about the value of human life and the proficiency of educating the young generation to live sexually in the service of love and life. It also draws attention to the many signs of the victory of the culture of life, but also to phenomena that point to the need for further actions to defend human life.

    Przedmiotem artykułu są opublikowane homilie arcybiskupa Stanisława Gądeckiego, z uroczystości Zwiastowania Pańskiego. Celem artykułu jest ukazanie na ich podstawie wartości i świętości życia ludzkiego oraz działań na rzecz jego obrony. Wykorzystana metoda to analiza porównawcza opublikowanych tekstów. Wniosek wypływający z pracy wskazuje, że nauczanie metropolity poznańskiego dzięki konfrontowaniu nauczania Kościoła z aktualnymi wydarzeniami jest konkretnym narzędziem do podjęcia dialogu ze współczesną kulturą, która potrzebuje głoszenia Ewangelii Życia.
    The subject of the article are the published homilies of Archbishop Stanisław Gądecki written for the celebration of the Annunciation of the Lord. The main goal of the text is to use these homilies as the basis for an elaboration on the value and sanctity of human life as well as propose ways for its protection. The method used is a comparative analysis of published texts. The conclusion drawn from the work indicates that the teaching of the Archbishop of Poznań, by confronting the teaching of the Church with current events, becomes a specific tool for entering into dialogue with contemporary culture thatneeds the preaching of the Gospel of Life.

    Opis:
    Currently, when attempts are made in various ways to weaken the family unit through the promotion of so-called open relationships, divorce and through the legalisation of homosexual partnerships, it seems that care and protection of the family unit is much more of a necessity now than in the past. That is why Pope John Paul II stated in apostolic exhortation Familiaris consortio, that care for the family should be the principal pastoral mission of the Church. Everybody, especially priests and all lay people should take all opportunities and make every effort to help married couples and families in fulfilling their basic duties. The article is devoted to tasks of family pastoral care. They are: defense of human life from the moment of conception to the moment of natural death; preparation for marriage and life in family; help the family and especially young married couples; family counseling; pastoral care of families that are in difficult and abnormal situations. „The Church's pastoral action must be progressive in the sense that it must follow the family, accompanying it step by step in the different stages of its formation and development” (FC 65).

    The article deals with one of the most pressing topics in bioethics, namely the attitude to abortion. The author focuses on the interpretation of this practice as a kind of conflict between a woman and the fetus that she gestates (this conflict concerns women’s rights and duties to the fetus, its interests, and the moral status of the fetus in general). Considering several variants of arguments which protect women’s right to abortion (primarily utilitarian arguments based on analogy), the author tries to identify the structure of argumentation. Finally, she presents her own argument against the practice of terminating pregnancy.

    The article is devoted to the issue of killing an attacker in self-defense. The considerations are based on the interpretation of Article 25 § 2 of the Penal Code, from which it follows that the method of defense must be commensurate with the danger of attack. The authors are looking for a catalog of legal interests that can be defended by harming the attacker’s life. They also analyze Article 2 (2a) European Convention of Human Rights, according to which deprivation of life shall not be regarded as inflicted in contravention of this Article when it results from the use of force which is no more than absolutely necessary in defence of any person from unlawful violence. The authors draw attention to the role of this provision in the interpretation of the signs of necessary defense, especially the sign of proportionality of the means of defense to the danger of assassination. In the article, they also defined the concept of a countertype (justification) and briefly characterized the remaining features of necessary defense
    Artykuł jest poświęcony problematyce pozbawienia życia napastnika w obronie koniecznej. Rozważania prowadzone są w oparciu o wykładnię art. 25 § 2 Kodeksu karnego, z którego wynika, że sposób obrony musi być współmierny do niebezpieczeństwa zamachu. Autorzy poszukują katalogu dóbr, których można bronić godząc w życie napastnika. Analizują ponadto art. 2 ust. 2 lit. a Europejskiej Konwencji Praw Człowieka, zgodnie z którym pozbawienie życia nie będzie uznane za sprzeczne z tym artykułem, jeżeli nastąpi w wyniku bezwzględnego koniecznego użycia siły w obronie jakiejkolwiek osoby przed bezprawną przemocą. Autorzy zwracają uwagę na rolę tego przepisu w interpretacji znamion obrony koniecznej, zwłaszcza znamienia współmierności sposobu obrony do niebezpieczeństwa zamachu. W artykule definiują ponadto pojęcie kontratypu oraz scharakteryzowali krótko pozostałe znamiona obrony koniecznej.
