Opis:: Problematyka badawcza dotycząca architektury zamków krzyżackich na ziemi chełmińskiej od dawna cieszy sie niesłabnącą popularnością. Jednak w ograniczonym stopniu opracowania te oparte są na wynikach systematycznych badań archeologiczno-architektonicznych. Zamki krzyżackie na ziemi chełmińskiej są nie tylko architektonicznym, ale przede wszystkim historycznym i artystycznym fenomenem. Mimo niewątpliwych wartości kulturalnych, symbolicznych, artystycznych i historycznych do tej pory nie zrealizowano szerokiego, interdyscyplinarnego programu badawczego obejmującego szczegółowe studia nad architekturą, sztuką, warsztatem budowlanym i szerzej - kulturą materialną. W artykule przedstawiono najistotniejsze wyniki badań zainicjowanych w 2005 r. Celem programu badawczego, realizowanego przez Zakład Archeologii Architektury Instytutu Archeologii UMK w Toruniu, jest analiza architektoniczna i archeologiczna zamków funkcjonujących na terenie państwa krzyżackiego na ziemi chełmińskiej. W tekście omówiono najnowsze wyniki badań archeologicznych zamków w Grudziądzu, Wąbrzeźnie, Papowie Biskupim i Radzyniu Chełmińskim.
Research on the architecture of castles in Chelmno Land is becoming more popular. This is evidenced by numerous publications both scientific and popular, dedicated to the Teutonic Knights history of architecture in general and especially defense architecture. No systematic archaeological and architectural studies have yet been made. The castles of the Teutonic Knights at Chelmno Land display unique architectural features; their historical and artistic identity distinguishes this region from all the other areas in Poland. A broad, interdisciplinary research program is required, involving a detailed study of the architecture, art, and a study of their construction techniques. Since 2005, a research program has been under way examining the architecture and archeology of the castles built by the Teutonic Knights at Chełmno Land. (Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun, Institute of Archaeology, Department of Archaeology of Architecture.) The aim of the research program was to preserve the remains of both Grudziądz and Wąbrzeźno castles and to initiate a broader discussion about forms and phases of the construction of these facilities. Previous sources of knowledge about these castles came exclusively from historical or iconographical sources. Earlier research programs included two other castles (Radzyń Chelminski and Papowo Biskupie). The research attempted to review arrangements for settlement, layout plans, building forms, etc. and what were the forms of settlements before the arrival of Teutonic Knights. The aim of this project is to start interdisciplinary studies of the Teutonic castles at Chelmno Land combining history, architecture, art and material culture. An important goal will be to create a professional research program. Research already completed, has revealed new archaeological and architectural findings; this should lead to a new conservation program which must restore ancient monuments and secure exposed walls - those both visible on the surface and those that are under the earth's surface.

The aim of the article is to present the unique features of Fortress Wroclaw as the monument of Architectura Militaris that is different from other German fortresses, such as Grudziądz, Chełmno, and Malbork, found at present in Poland. The authors focus on the technical aspects related to the fortress design and construction at the turn of the 19th and 20th century, and the aspects of the current archive and field research. The article contributes to future considerations on the diversity of the fortification, and the research pertaining to tactical aspects.

Opis:: Formation of cities was always dependent on water. Location over the water areas gave the opportunity for development and increase of prosperity. And although water was also a threat and cause of damage, the benefits of its neighbour-hood prevailed. Today, the challenge for developing cities is a climate change observed in recent decades, which results in violent natural phenomena, e.g. floods and hurricanes. One of the main problems faced by residents of housing estates located on the water is the increasing risk of flooding. Actions are taken to adapt the functioning of the urban structure and buildings to new water conditions. Currently, the process of floodplain development is progressing on a larger scale. This phenomenon is intensifying and as a result many housing estates are created in areas exposed to flooding. The approach to flood issues in the context of architecture and spatial planning has evolved in recent decades. The new water paradigm is expressed in striving to keep it in place. How did the settlement in the floodplains look once and today in Warsaw? The research study was preceded by a historical feature and then the article drew attention to the ways of shaping new housing estates in flood areas in Warsaw. Using the case study method, new housing estates developed in the flood plains have been analysed, with a listing of their strengths and weaknesses and the assessment of solutions. Issues were discussed on how to protect the buildings from the harmful effects of water. On the basis of the conclusions from the Warsaw case study, project guidelines for floodplains in Warsaw were developed, the aim of which was to identify the most important priorities in the development of floodplains and increase the security of investment arising in these areas.

Opis:: Kożuchów jest miastem wyjątkowym, nie tylko w skali województwa lubuskiego ale w skali kraju. Zachowany w bardzo dobrym stanie system obronny, składający się z dwóch pierścieni kurtyn oraz fosy, wyróżnia je spośród setek innych. Należy jednocześnie do najstarszych miast Środkowego Nadodrza. Zachowane prawie na całym obwodzie fortyfi kacje uniemożliwiły scalenie się centrum z przedmieściami. Dzięki temu zachowało się pierwotne rozplanowanie tej części miasta i jego historyczny charakter. Te walory są jednak dużym wyzwaniem dla urbanistów i architektów w pracach planistyczno-urbanistycznych. Samo stare miasto stało się miejscem węzłowym w układzie przestrzennym ożuchowa. Ponadto, w nim samym, jest wiele dodatkowych węzłowych miejsc. Są to budowle mające znaczące wartości kulturowe: zamek, ratusz, gotycki kościół, zabudowa mieszkalna. Jest to również system fortyfi kacyjny z dobrze zachowanymi kurtynami, basztami, bastejami i fosą. Historyczny układ ulic nie ułatwia komunikacji pieszej i samochodowej na Starówce. Tereny zielone kryją ogromny potencjał. Niestety jest też dużo elementów degradujących miasto: budynki gospodarcze, zaniedbane podwórka, współczesna zabudowa tzw. bloki, pawilony handlowe, niezabudowane działki i kwartały. W opracowaniu przedstawiono próbę analizy problemów oraz propozycje zmian aby zachowany został wyjątkowy charakter tego miasta a jednocześnie powstała wartość dodana wynikająca z wprowadzenia propozycji nowych rozwiązań architektonicznych i urbanistycznych.
Kożuchów is a unique town, not only in the Lubusz Voivodship but also in the whole country. The well-preserved defence system, consisting of two rings of curtains and a moat, distinguishes this town from hundreds of others. It is also one of the oldest towns in the Middle Oder Region. Nearly the entire circumference of the fortifi cations has been prevented, which makes it impossible to merge the centre with the suburbs. For this reason, the original layout of this part of the town and its historical character have been preserved. However, these factors are a big challenge for urbanists and architects in terms of urban-planning. The old town has become a central point in the spatial layout of Kożuchów. Moreover, there are a number of additional important objects such as buildings of signifi cant cultural value: the castle, the town hall, the gothic church and the residential buildings as well as the fortifi cation system with the well-preserved curtains, bastion, fortifi ed towers and moat. The historical layout of the streets makes walking and driving diffi cult in the Old Town. The green areas have enormous potential. Unfortunately, there are also a number of elements spoiling the look of the town: the business buildings, the neglected yard, the modern buildings – so called blocks of fl ats, the commercial pavilions, the undeveloped plots and quarters. The paper presents an attempt to analyse the problems and to provide suggestions for changes so as to preserve the unique character of the town and, at the same time, to add value resulting from the introduction of new architectural and urban-planning ideas.
