Opis:
Rękopisy z Qumran (Zwoje znad Morza Martwego) to unikatowy zbiór spisanych po hebrajsku, aramejsku i grecku żydowskich manuskryptów pochodzących sprzed blisko dwóch tysięcy lat.
Manuscripts from Qumran (The Dead Sea Scrolls) are a unique collection of Jewish manuscripts written in Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek nearly 2,000 years ago. Their discovery is associated with extraordinary events and coincidences. In twelve grottos located in the region of Qumran, on the north-west coast of the Dead Sea, in the years 1947-1956 and 2017 around 900 manuscripts were found. To protect and present one of the world's oldest and richest collections of biblical texts, the Shrine of the Book was built as part of the Israel Museum in Jerusalem.

Opis:
In this article, firstly I discuss why it is important to have an exegetically sound biblical view on the resurrection for the attractiveness of the church. To attain this, theology – in both the Catholic and the Protestant tradition – should change its approach of eschatology as focusing on “going to heaven when you die” to a view of “participating in a new creation”. Secondly, I will give some examples of how the biblical message about the resurrection thus understood can make the mission of the church strong enough to have its own relevant and attractive alternative narrative in a world of competing narratives.

demonology
Opis:
In the Ancient Near East, religious thought held that demons were drawn to humans in major life-transitions and crises. „The terror of the night”, „the arrow that flies by day”, „the plague” and „the scourge” are terms that are no methapors. They can be of Canaanite demons and of the sickness-demons typi-cal of Mesopotamia (Ps 78,49c; 91,5-6). However, in neither passage, to be sure, have they any independence whatsoever. In Ps 78,49c they appear as em-issaries of Jahweh. In Ps 91,5-6 they are denied any power over anyone who trusts in Jahweh. At one level, the term „the terror of the night” seem to be standard metaphorical description for danger, but some related terms reveal more. These dangers are utterly chaotic, casting the threat of death as personi-fied powers of evil. Therefore in Ps 91,5-6 we will have to think not only of poetic personifications but also of demonic powers. While these demonic iden-tities may be depersonalized in Israel’s theology, the same identities were not dismantled in the antecedent pantheons and practices surrounding Israel. These exorcism psalms are found in 11Q11. This scroll seems to comprise three extracanonical psalms plus Psalm 91, for four psalms in all. The extraca-nonical compositions are clearly exorcism psalms. Later rabbinic understand-ing of Psalm 91 and its quotation in the temptation of Jesus, the appearance of Psalm 91 in 11Q11 strongly suggests that this psalm was understood as an ex-orcism psalm not only at Qumran but among many Jews in the time of Jesus.

Opis:
The thesis that the Khirbet Qumran community was a branch of the larger Essene movement has dominated scholarship since the discovery of the first Dead Sea Scrolls. The number of books and articles challenging the theory that the Scrolls found in the caves belonged to a sectarian community that lived at Khirbet Qumran – and that these sectarians should be identified as Essenes – indicates that we are far from a consensus concerning the history of the Qumran history. What has largely been neglected in this debate is Flavius Josephus, who alone among the extant Second Temple Period authors claims to have been an Essene. This article examines the importance of Josephus as an eyewitness to Essene beliefs and practices in the first century C.E. It suggests that his descriptions of the Essene admission procedure matches the latest version of the Serek ha-Yahad, which documents changes in the practices and beliefs of this sect during the first century C.E. The study seeks to show that the Serk belonged to a sectarian library that is archaeologically connected with Khirbet Qumran and that this library was more widely dispersed among the caves than previously recognized. The article builds on this evidence to propose that we can connect the Serek and Josephus to Khirbet Qumran, and that this text was used as a sort of archaeological blueprint for this settlement. The evidence examined in this article reveals that Josephus is our only extant witness to life at Khirbet Qumran during its later occupational phase (Periods II–III, ca. 4 B.C.E.–73/4 C.E.).

Opis:
Bibliści i teologowie powinni wzbogacić i ożywić swą teologię poprzez dodanie licznych godnych uwagi spostrzeżeń archeologicznych (zwłaszcza z Morza Martwego) i metod, takich jak socjologia.
Biblical scholars and theologians should enrich and enliven their theology by added the vast amount of astounding archaeological insights (especially from the Dead Sea Scrolls) and methods such as sociology. In so doing, perhaps the worst heresy in Christian theology, Anti-Semitism, will diminish as scholars perceive that Jesus was a faithful Jew who was devoted to Sacred Scripture and worshipped in the Temple. Also, we will work together to remove Docetism from our churches and schools. It is the earliest heresy and misses the perspicacity of John 1:14, ignoring that Jesus was a man of flesh and blood. Both improvements are in accord with the teachings of Pope John Paul II, a cherished saint who showed me God’s love.

Opis:
The year 1995 was pivotal for research on the Book of Tobit, when the Aramaic and Hebrew manuscripts of this work found at Qumran were first published. The present article unfolds the history of the manuscripts' discovery in 1952 in Qumran Cave 4, then the long process of publishing the recovered texts, and that publication's effect on the renewal of scholarly interest in the Book of Tobit. The first part describes the Qumran texts' first publication as well as the significant later works which included the manuscript texts along with their translations. In the next section the author describes the actual condition and contents of the discovered manuscripts. Next he explores the subject of the intertextuality of the book, focusing on Greek and Latin references known before 1952. The fourth section of the article is the presentation of status quaestionis – selected issues regarding the Book of Tobit and how they have been impacted by the discovered texts, 4Q196-200. In particular, it reconsiders the language in which the book was originally written, the compositional integrity of the text, and the matter of origins and the influence of ancient Near Eastern culture (especially of  Words of Ahikar) upon the structure and contents of the biblical text. The last part of the article compares the Aramaic fragments with the two known Greek versions of Tobit (both the longer and shorter) and presents the results of this analysis. The purpose of this article is to show the great importance of the finding and publication of the 4Q196-200 manuscripts for advancing research on the biblical book, and to retrace the course of such research on the Book of Tobit, beginning in 1952 until now.
