Opis:
The field of remote sensing is an area of science and technology that has undergone rapid development in recent years. This paper focuses primarily on how to exploit the capabilities made available by remote sensing and how to put them to use by combining them with a sys-temic approach to design and analysis in various measurement and control applications. The emphasis is placed on high-resolution satellite and Lidar sensors – the most prevalent remote sensing technologies. Following the presentation of some general issues related to low- and high-level processing of remote sensing data, such as data dimensionality reduction, data fusion, and change detection, the paper provides examples of control-related applications of remote sensing technologies. It is argued that successful exploitation of new generations of remote sensing technologies will require extensive development of new algorithms based on a variety of approaches, such as machine vision, statistical learning, and artificial intelligence.

The article presents the author’s method of scale determining of cartographical chart. The worked out method permits on scale defining on the base on resolution of source imagery, precision of location and internal geometry of situational details as well as the defining of interpretation aim. In present study authors introduce a new attitude to cartographical study of seaports. It relies on very high resolution imageries using to create a orthophotomap and regards it as a final product instead of product attending to updating other maps.

Opis:
W artykule przedstawiono wykorzystanie wysokorozdzielczych danych obrazowych do celów wojskowych.
The article presents the application of very high resolution imagery data in military cartographic elaborations. Three basic areas of application photogrammetry and remote sensing data have been indicated: vector maps (georeferenced data bases), geospatial analysis and special elaborations - image maps. Basic vector data bases created by NATO using very high resolution imagery data are mainly Vmap bases (vector map bases) with detail levels corresponding to information resolution of particular scales of cartographic elaboration: LO -1:1 000 000, L1 - 1:250 000, L2 - 1:50 000 and L3 - 1:25 000. Military vector maps (Vmap) enable spatial analyses using topology of presented terrain objects and attributes assigned to them. The other data base elaborated as part of an international agreement (including Poland) which uses very high resolution satellite images is the basis created within the framework of the MGCP project (Multinational Geospatial Co-production Program), in which 32 countries currently participate. MGCP is a global basis. The idea of the project is to create data for regions of interest, areas of current and potential conflicts and threats. The characteristic feature of data in the MGCP project is the fact that they don't include a full range of objects required to create some kinds of maps, e.g. the topographic map. These data cannot be field verified and horizontal detail of object location should have an error of no more than 25 meters. Information concerning borders, their course and status can be treated differently in each country taking part in the program, so in order to avoid potential conflict of interest it has been decided not to include such data in MGCP. The article also presents special elaborations done during stability missions in Iraq and Afghanistan. Image maps have presently become basic cartographic material in regions of conflict and hazards. They also constitute the basis for conducting further analyses. They are special maps (which thus do not undergo strict standard limitations), so the information range, scale and sheet size are conformed to particular user needs and the task performed. Application of very high resolution area imageries on stability missions in war zones is common practice. This is done because of the particularities of climatic, meteorological, logistical and organizational conditions as well as safety precautions. The article characterizes kinds of image data used by the army while showing the possibilities of creating cartographic elaborations and conducting geospatial analyses on the basis of this data. Through current image data it is possible to create quick cartographic elaborations mainly used in war zones, but which are more and more often made useful in elaborations intended for use during times of peace. Usage of satellite images has led to the emergence of a new type of product - image maps. Their elaboration standards have a loosely defined reference system and content range. Their applications are limited, e.g. they cannot be used for precise navigation. The kind of realized task and map addressee requirements are decisive here.

Opis:
The probabilistic Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) approach is presented to solve the problem of designing an optimal trajectory for a mobile data acquisition platform. An ACO algorithm optimizes an objective function defined in terms of the value of the acquired data samples subject to different sets of constraints depending on the current data acquisition strategy. The analysis presented in this paper focuses on an environment monitoring system, which acquires in-situ data for precise calibration of a water quality monitoring system. The value of the sample is determined based on the concentration of the water pollutant, which in turn is obtained through processing of multi-spectral satellite imagery. Since our problem is defined in a continuous space of coordinates, and in some strategies each point is able to connect to any other point in the space, we adopted a hybrid model that involves a connection graph and also a spatial grid.

Opis:
Based on laboratory, field and airborne-acquired hyperspectral data, this paper aims to analyse the dominant minerals and rocks found in the Polish Karkonosze Mountains. Laboratory spectral characteristics were measured with the ASD FieldSpec 3 spectrometer and images were obtained from VITO’s Airborne Prism EXperiment (APEX) scanner. The terrain is covered mainly by lichens or vascular plants creating significant difficulties for rock identification. However, hyperspectral airborne imagery allowed for subpixel classifications of different types of granites, hornfels and mica schist within the research area. The hyperspectral data enabled geological mapping of bare ground that had been masked out using three advanced algorithms: Spectral Angle Mapper, Linear Spectral Unmixing and Matched Filtering. Though all three methods produced positive results, the Matched Filtering method proved to be the most effective. The result of this study was a set of maps and post classification statistical data of rock distribution in the area, one for each method of classification.

Opis:
The water regime is the main factor contributing to the formation of landscapes in the river deltas of arid zones, any fluctuations in which lead to a change in the integral hydromorphic landscape. After the construction of the Kapshagai reservoir, the anthropogenic load on the ecosystem of the Ili River delta increased, as a result of which degradation processes, such as drying out and salinization, intensified. In the short term, this phenomenon may lead to the desertification of about 1 million ha of land in the modern river delta. In this regard, the main goal of this study is to look at the processes of desertification in the modern delta of the Ili River, using remote sensing data, which allows for quick identification of the long-term dynamics of degradation processes. For this, the authors used satellite data from Landsat 1–5 MSSS and Landsat 8OLI satellites for 1979 and 2019 and soil analysis data obtained through the ground (field) surveys. Using regression analysis of space and soil data, predictors for interpreting space images were identified and maps of landscape drying and soil salinization were compiled, reflecting the changes that have occurred over the past 40 years. As a result, it was found that in 2019, compared to 1979, the area of landscapes covered with vegetation had decreased by 12% and there was a transformation of hydromorphic landscapes into salt marshes and solonetzes. Over the past 40 years, the volume of non-saline soils has decreased by 41.3% and the volume of saline soils has increased to varying degrees. That is, at present, on the territory of the modern delta, a difficult land improvement situation has developed associated with the cessation of spring and summer floods due to the intensive water use at the Chinese and Kazakh sides.

Opis:
One of the great challenges of achieving the shared vision of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is having high-quality, timely, comparable, and accessible data that allows to measure and report progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Hence, in many countries, geospatial information (including Earth observation) and algorithms implemented in cloud computing platforms have become important tools to monitor indicators of the SDG thanks to their broad accessibility and global coverage. However, emerging countries still face barriers to the implementation of technologies to manage the large amounts of EO data. This article aims to show the advantages of satellite-based EO in the measurement of SDG indicators, as well as challenges emerging countries face in the use of these technological tools. It addresses why the open-source tool Open Data Cube (ODC) should be seen as a response to the said challenges. Finally, there is a description regarding the experience of Mexico with the use and application of this tool for the measurement of SDG indicators, from the development and implementation of the Mexican Geospatial Data Cube (MGDC) to the results obtained from its application in the support for the measurement of SDG indicators 6.6.1 Change in the extent of water-related ecosystems over time and 15.1.1 Forest area as a proportion of total land area.
