Opis:
Over the past decades, corpus linguistics has become widespread in studies dealing with applied linguistics. Teachers have become acquainted with corpus lingustic methods and are using computer technology in their professional practice. A well-known example is the learner corpora with which researchers managed to attain invaluable results concerning various aspects of learner language. This article, however, presents a new field within corpus linguistics: the teacher corpus. A corpus on teacher language (instead of learner language) has a lot to offer in terms of methodology and pedagogy.

COCA
Opis:
Based on a mega corpus, The Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA), this study aims to determine the most frequent adjectives used in academic texts and to investigate whether these adjectives differ in frequency and function in social sciences, technology, and medical sciences. It also identifies evaluative adjectives from a list of a hundred most frequently used adjectives. A total of 839 adjectives, which comprises the list of frequently used adjectives in COCA, were searched using a search engine. 334 of the adjectives were found to appear more frequently in the academic sub-corpus than in other sub-corpora (spoken, fiction, magazine, and newspaper). There was only one adjective that was used more frequently in technology and medical sciences than in social sciences. Some adjectives were very dominant in a specific discipline of academic texts. The frequency of evaluative adjectives in most frequently used 100 adjectives was also listed. It is found that almost 40% percent of the adjectives are evaluative. The results of the study were discussed in terms of frequency effects in language learning and writing in the foreign language as providing learners with corpus data may improve language knowledge and the correct use of adjectives.

The author claims that due to the effectiveness and multiplicity of potential uses for databases (for instance, for “big data,” artificial intelligence) the business world is taking an almost incredible interest in their implementation. One proof is the momentum of the eighth edition of the Big Data & AI Congress. This text reports on that Warsaw conference. The author first presents the emotions that were obvious during the course of the event-the enthusiasm and expectations of business in regard to this kind of technology-and then points out and characterizes, with the eye of a sociologist, the areas of the subject left unaddressed. These are the manifold social consequences of the use and development of big data or so-called artificial intelligence, that is, the growth of income inequality at the same time as the outwardly positive growth in general incomes, the preservation of mechanisms of exclusion and discrimination, and the treatment of large groups of users as objects through applications based on data analysis.

The development of BIM technology, its dissemination and the resulting standardisation are visible globally. This technology gives access to data created during the design process, enabling their schedule, modification and analysis. The use of data is a common point with data-driven design which, in the context of this paper, is a design approach where data is the primary source of information that affects the design. Considering the characteristics of modern office buildings and their layout, a workflow using data-driven design and BIM software was created. It makes the process more efficient in terms of the time needed for selected tasks as well as the use, transfer and management of information. The paper presents solutions that standardise the input data of the type and number of rooms meeting the tenant's needs. Based on the data from the spreadsheet, using scripts, elements representing the area and other parameters of rooms are created. After the arrangement of the spaces, the creation of walls and rooms, the data is automatically transferred to the parameters of the rooms. The furniture is automatically placed using equipment standard spreadsheet data. To ensure the verification of the project's compliance with the requirements, a script was created which graphically shows the fulfilment of the conditions.

Opis:
The data-driven Bulgarian WordNet: BTBWNThe paper presents our work towards the simultaneous creation of a data-driven WordNet for Bulgarian and a manually annotated treebank with semantic information. Such an approach requires synchronization of the word senses in both - syntactic and lexical resources, without limiting the WordNet senses to the corpus or vice versa. Our strategy focuses on the identification of senses used in BulTreeBank, but the missing senses of a lemma also have been covered through exploration of bigger corpora. The identified senses have been organized in synsets for the Bulgarian WordNet. Then they have been aligned to the Princeton WordNet synsets. Various types of mappings are considered between both resources in a cross-lingual aspect and with respect to ensuring maximum connectivity and potential for incorporating the language specific concepts. The mapping between the two WordNets (English and Bulgarian) is a basis for applications such as machine translation and multilingual information retrieval.

Opis:
Much has been said about elevating the HRMgt function to strategic levels. Adopting a more evidence-based approach through the use of data analytics is considered an important driver in this direction. This provides a more potent decision-making resource that enables less biased and harder evidence which ultimately is more convincing. But will Strategic HRMgt adopting data-driven strategies require people in the profession to adopt new skills? This exploratory project is work-in-progress and presents initial interview results. Interviewees report that the use of HRMgt data analytics can certainly improve the strategic value of HR and that while the use of data can drive HR decisions more convincingly, HRMgt itself cannot be reduced or substituted by data. The participants also reported that HR professionals would require learning new skills, amongst them IT, analysis and interpretation of data. The project aims to eventually draw a number of attributes or skill-sets to this effect.

Artificial Intelligence has made impressive progress in the past few decades, and, especially in the last couple of years, so many different systems able to simulate human response in a very realistic and coherent way have been made available to the general public. This has opened the road to new possibilities for the use of AI in a variety of contexts, starting from the use of generative AI to the shortening of otherwise long working tasks (such as programming). However, it also created unforeseen issues that have yet to be addressed, since there is a lack of legal and ethical guidelines for the use of these new AI tools. This article analyses some of the most controversial applications of these new AI systems, highlighting both problems and ethical concerns, as well as the possible ways in which they can be dealt with in the future.

The article focuses on the practices relevant for digital mapping based on dynamic data processing and GIS. I argue that participatory mapping can be seen as a form of data driven activism and as such it is first and foremost the example of the collective knowledge. Hence, the primary function of the images (e.g. maps) produced in the process is not so much the representation of the city as rather it is the role they play in the dynamic operations of knowledge production on a grassroots level. Given that the computing technology and data processing saturate the social relations of the contemporary urban environments to the considerable extent, certain shift in the scope of analysis is required: the focus on how the images emerge and how they act in the world seems to be more relevant than the traditional analysis of the city’s visual representation.

Digitalization and sustainability are important topics for manufacturing industries as they are affecting all parts of the production chain. Various initiatives and approaches are set up to help companies adopt the principles of the fourth industrial revolution with respect sustainability. Within these actions the use of modern maintenance approaches such as Maintenance 4.0 is highlighted as one of the prevailing smart & sustainable manufacturing topics. The goal of this paper is to describe the latest trends within the area of maintenance management from the perspective of the challenges of the fourth industrial revolution and the economic, environmental and social challenges of sustainable development. In this work, intelligent and sustainable maintenance was considered in three perspectives. The first perspective is the historical perspective, in relation to which evolution has been presented in the approach to maintenance in accordance with the development of production engineering. The next perspective is the development perspective, which presents historical perspectives on maintenance data and data-driven maintenance technology. The third perspective, presents maintenance in the context of the dimensions of sustainable development and potential opportunities for including data-driven maintenance technology in the implementation of the economic, environmental and social challenges of sustainable production.

The data-driven approach is a strong trend in modern marketing and other areas of life. From the position of methodological criticism, I discuss the data-driven mind traps. I indicate that contrary to popular beliefs: data does not speak for themselves; data is not given, but collected and generated, so biased; a larger amount of data does not necessarily mean a higher value; the tools used shape the examined reality; faith in data is a belief that is impossible to justify logically; there is no imperative but trend for the use of data and the most modern quantitative methods. I point to the links between epistemological and ethical assumptions as well as social consequences. I suggest alternatives

Opis:
In this paper, an alternative framework for data analytics is proposed which is based on the spatially-aware concepts of eccentricity and typicality which represent the density and proximity in the data space. This approach is statistical, but differs from the traditional probability theory which is frequentist in nature. It also differs from the belief and possibility-based approaches as well as from the deterministic first principles approaches, although it can be seen as deterministic in the sense that it provides exactly the same result for the same data. It also differs from the subjective expert-based approaches such as fuzzy sets. It can be used to detect anomalies, faults, form clusters, classes, predictive models, controllers. The main motivation for introducing the new typicality- and eccentricity-based data analytics (TEDA) is the fact that real processes which are of interest for data analytics, such as climate, economic and financial, electro-mechanical, biological, social and psychological etc., are often complex, uncertain and poorly known, but not purely random. Unlike, purely random processes, such as throwing dices, tossing coins, choosing coloured balls from bowls and other games, real life processes of interest do violate the main assumptions which the traditional probability theory requires. At the same time they are seldom deterministic (more precisely, have always uncertainty/noise component which is nondeterministic), creating expert and belief-based possibilistic models is cumbersome and subjective. Despite this, different groups of researchers and practitioners favour and do use one of the above approaches with probability theory being (perhaps) the most widely used one. The proposed new framework TEDA is a systematic methodology which does not require prior assumptions and can be used for development of a range of methods for anomalies and fault detection, image processing, clustering, classification, prediction, control, filtering, regression, etc. In this paper due to the space limitations, only few illustrative examples are provided aiming proof of concept.

A highly complex dynamic non-linear reactor is the blast furnace iron manufacturing system. It has possible dangers, including carbon monoxide, wide variety of chemical reactions, fire, high pressure and explosion, noise, split and fall, hot metal sparks, hit etc. To ensure a secure working, organizations must take the required measures to manage the risks and their effects. The approach for risk assessment discussed in this research attempts to increase blast furnace safety performance and reduce workers injuries. This approach uses probability distribution and an improved machine learning techniques such as radial basis function artificial neural networks (RBANN). The novelty here is to calculate a multivariate risk using a proposed method, namely exponential smoothing combined with radial basis function artificial neural networks (ES-RBANN). To identify their limits, the results of a research comparing conventional and novel techniques are confirmed using real data collected from the steel production operations ArcelorMittal-Annaba, Algeria.

Theoretical background: Analytical marketing is at the heart of scientific research because it plays an important role in building the competitiveness of enterprises and is an opportunity for them to grow.Purpose of the article: The aim of the article is to present the results of a bibliometric analysis of the developing area of analytical marketing.Research methods: For this purpose, specialist journals published between 1900 and 2021 were searched in the Web of Science database. The scientometric analyses carried out on their basis concern the number of publications, authorship and co-authorship, the number of citations, journals, thematic categories, institutions, countries and keywords. Over 200 publications cited 2,563 times were analyzed.Main findings: The concept of analytical marketing was taken into account by over 400 authors, with Maria Petrescu authoring the highest number of publications, and Michel Wedel being the most significant author due to the number of citations. An important role, due to the number of publications in this area, is played by institutions based in the USA (over 50%), including the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) and the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE). What is more, the conducted research emphasizes the importance of marketing analytics and presents benefits that stem from using it.
