    Since 1967, Światowy Festiwal Polonijnych Zespołów Folklorystycznych [World Festival of Polish Community Folklore Ensembles] has been organized in Rzeszow. After over 50 years, the 18th edition was organized of this unique event taking place every three years in the capital of Outer Subcarpathia. During each edition, the festival attracts over 1,200 Poles living in various parts of the world, from North America to Australia. Ultimately, the Festival has become one of the biggest events of the Polish diaspora in the world. Among the main ideas of the festival has been integration of Polish communities abroad and propagation of Polish culture among Poles living abroad. Many cultural and social developments testify to the culture-forming role of the Festival which enjoys a high rank and significance in the system of forging the Polish diaspora’s bonds with the mother country. For decades, folklore has been an important element of the emotional relation with Poland’s history and culture, a symbol of the ties with the nation and the regional tradition.

    Czasy świetności tańca ludowego już dawno minęły, ale pomimo tego może on stanowić istotny czynnik w kształtowaniu współczesnej tzw. tożsamości regionalnej. Szczególnie widoczne to jest na przykładzie Gminy Mogilany, gdzie od wielu lat z dużym powodzeniem działa Zespół Regionalny „Mogilanie” kultywujący tradycje Krakowiaków Zachodnich. Przeprowadzone badania jednoznacznie pokazały, że aktywne uczestnictwo w działalności artystycznej zespołu regionalne go ma swoje przełożenie na świadomość poczucia odrębności lokal nej. Zdecydowanie inaczej wygląda sytuacja w przypadku młodzieży, która nie wykazuje zainteresowania kulturą ludową, pomimo niskie go stanu wiedzy o niej. Rozwiązaniem tego stanu rzeczy jest wczesne wprowadzenie dzieci w krąg kultury ich regionu, co najlepiej obrazują wyniki z ankiet przeprowadzonych na tej grupie wiekowej.
    The best times of folk dance have passed away. Despite this, folk dance can still be an important factor in shaping the contemporary “regional identity”. More specifically, this can be seen on the example of Mogi lany Rural Community, where the Regional Group “Mogilanie” has successfully functioned for many years, cultivating traditions charac teristic for the Western Krakowiacy. Studies have shown that active participation in cultural activities of a regional artistic groups is con nected with the awareness of local identity. However, the situation is completely different when it comes to young people. Despite their lim ited knowledge about folk culture, they are still not interested in it. Further surveys have shown, that children’s early introduction to re gional culture might be a solution to this problem.
