Opis:
The main goal of the presented work is to determine the impact of the cyclic hardening model on the numerical results of the ε-N fatigue test. As an object of study, compressor blade (from PZL-10W helicopter engine) was used. The examined blade was made of EI-961 alloy. In numerical analysis, a geometrical model of the blade with a preliminary defect was created. Geometrical defect – V-notch was created on the leading edge. This defect was introduced in order to weaken the structure of the element and the possibility of observing the crack initiation process (in experimental tests). Material data to ε-N analysis, based on Manson-Coffin-Basquin equation, were estimated for Mitchell’s model. This model was built based on strength data provided by the steel producer. Based on three different models of cyclic hardening (Manson, Fatemi, and Xianxin), a number of load cycles were calculated. Load cycle during numerical analysis was represented as resonance bending with an amplitude of displacement equal to A = 1.8 mm. Obtained results were compared with experimental data. Additionally, the analytical model of ε-N fatigue (depending on the cyclic hardening) was prepared. All the work carried out has been summarized by a comprehensive comparative analysis of the results. Obtained results and dependencies can be used in the selection of an appropriate model of cyclic hardening in further fatigue tests of many aerospace elements.

Cyclic hardening and stress relaxation experiments of SUS316HTP were performed under creep-fatigue loading with tensile strain holding at 700ºC. Experiments revealed that under strain holding, the slow stress-relaxation stage satisfying Norton’s law with slight cyclic hardening followed a rapid stress-relaxation stage that was noticeably affected by cyclic hardening. This suggests that in the slow stress-relaxation stage, inelastic deformation mechanisms different from that of viscoplasticity occurred. Experiments were simulated using a cyclic viscoplastic-creep model in which the inelastic strain-rate was decomposed into viscoplastic and creep components that were affected differently by cyclic hardening. The simulation accurately reproduced the experiments.

The focus of this research work was predicting the fatigue life of mechanical components used for industrial and transport systems. To understand how the phenomenon of fatigue occurs in a material, the fatigue crack growth is studied. The purpose of this work was to create a graphical user interface (GUI) under Matlab to allow researchers to conduct the parametric studies of fatigue crack propagation to predict fatigue life. In this work, three models for fatigue crack propagation were used: those of Paris, Walker and Forman in order to study the three parameters: the Paris exponent m, load ratio R and hardness KIC, respectively. In addition, a novel model FCG was developed to study the influence of the hardening parameters (K′, n′) on fatigue crack propagation. The comparison of the simulation results with those in the literature shows good agreement.

In this paper there are shown the results of low-cycle fatigue testing of steel P91 samples. During the testing there was conducted a fixed amplitude loading testing as well as programmed loading with various sequence degrees of the program. The testing was done in two temperatures: T=20C and T=600ºC. During the testing a cyclic steel weakening was observed without a clear period of stabilization. Greater changes of the cyclic properties were observed in temperature T=600ºC. The influence of temperature on the fatigue life was determined in this paper. This influence is dependent on the degree of strain. It’s a minor one in the range of big strain and increases in the process of decreasing the degree of strain. Furthermore, the impact of the loading program type was determined on the test results and fatigue life calculations.

Over the last 60 years, several models have been developed governing different zones of fatigue crack growth from the threshold zone to final failure. The best known model is the Paris law and a number of its based on mechanical, metallurgical and loading parameters governing the propagation of cracks. This paper presents an analytical model developed to predict the fatigue crack propagation rate in the Paris regime, for different material properties, yield strength (σy), Young’s modulus (E) and cyclic hardening parameters (K’, n’) and their influence by variability. The cyclic plastic deformation at a crack tip or any other cyclic hardening rule may be used to reach this objective, for to investigate this influence, these properties of the model are calibrated using available experimental data in the literature. This FCGR model was validated on Al-alloys specimens under constant amplitude load and shows good agreement with the experimental results.

This article presents the application of Chaboche nonlinear kinematic hardening model in simulations of uniaxial ratcheting. First, the symmetrical strain-controlled cyclic tension/compression tests for PA6 aluminum samples were done. Using the experimental stress–strain curve, initial material hardening parameters were determined by the ABAQUS software. The experimental curve was compared with the numerical one. For better fitting of both curves, the optimization procedure based on the least-square method was applied. Using the determined hardening parameters, numerical simulations of the ratcheting were done by the finite element analysis software. Numerical results were then compared with the experimental data obtained in the stress-controlled cyclic loading test.

The paper presents investigations identifying an influence of complex cyclic loading controlled by the strain signals on the selected mechanical properties of the 2024 aluminium alloy. Investigations of proportional and non-proportional loading paths in the form of square and circle were carried out at room temperature using thin-walled tubular specimens enabling realisation of complex stress states due to acting of axial force and twisting moment. The hardening effect of the material due to cyclic loading was observed on the basis of: stress responses into the strain controlled loading programme; hysteresis loop variations and amounts of stress amplitude. In the case of the non-proportional cyclic loading an additional hardening effect was identified. Second-order effects, which allow better understanding of the influence of proportional and non-proportional loading paths on mechanical behaviour of engineering materials, were identified. In the case of the circular loading path a delay of the maximum stress signals with respect to strain ones is demonstrated. For the square loading path a softening effect was observed. It is reflected by the rapid stress drop on this direction, which is perpendicular to that where the stress level begins to turn back. The yield surface approach is also applied in order to assess the mechanical properties variations due to cyclic loading of the material.

The paper presents the results of fatigue loading simulation applied to bimetallic model using the Chaboche kinematic hardening rule. Three cases of simulations were performed: (i) without residual stresses; (ii) considering residual stresses and (iii) considering asymmetrical geometry of bimetal, i.e. cross area reducing under tension period of loading. Experimental results exhibit the ratcheting phenomenon in titanium-steel bimetallic specimens. The observed ratcheting phenomenon could be explained by the third case of simulation which is supported by detection of microcracks in the vicinity of welded area.

Opis:
The KOBO extrusion is an unconventional elastic-plastic deformation process in which the phenomenon of chang- ing a path of plastic deformation due to die cyclic oscillations by a given angle and with a given frequency is applied. As the result of the application of the oscillating rotary motion of the die, the reduction of the extrusion force was obtained. The numerical study of the KOBO extrusion of metallic materials was presented in this paper. The three-dimensional coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian (CEL) analysis was applied. The relationship between the extrusion force and the punch displacement during the KOBO process was achieved. The effective plastic strain distribution in the butt was found. The results of the numerical computations were compared with the experimen- tal data. The influence of the material hardening parameters on the cyclic loading phenomena (ratcheting, mean stress relaxation) in terms of the course of the KOBO extrusion was also examined. The proper determination of the material hardening parameters can help to optimize the KOBO process in terms of the reduction the extrusion force and the choice of the amount of die oscillations.
