The author presents a survey of the mode of functioning of the category of failure in the context of phenomena describes as the anti-social turn in queer theory. In the focus of analysis there are, among others, works by Leo Bersani, Lee Edelman, José Esteban Muňoz. The article is mainly devoted to the ideas presented in Judith Halberstam’s The Queer Art of Failure (2011), a study that critically revises the relation connecting queerness with the concepts of negativity, shadow feminism, and designs a new perspective for queer research in popular culture, referring to Stuart Hall’s concept of low theory, and to Antonio Gramsci’s culture analysis.

Abstract: The human being meets the idea of infinity very early, still a child, when he  realises that he can go on counting using  natural numbers until it is impossible to continue to count. The idea of infinity attracts and rejects, sometimes becomes an  object of desire and sometimes of study and systematic research. Infinity is the testimony that intellect, even starting from experience, can overcome limits and boundaries. Our own limited experience on the Earth suggests the existence of something beyond it. Scientists, artists, philosophers, musicians, writers, mathematicians have often assumed towards this concept positions and opinions sensitively different. Infinity would be, by its etymology and nature, what escapes all possible classification and measurement, while mathematics tends to classify and measure every object it examines, and  has been able to measure it. Infinity follows us from primary school until university, but often remains a misunderstood concept in the mathematical sense.

The paper aims to present safety culture as a major component of business management, and the role of shaping safety culture in company management. The concept of safety culture can be applied to society as a whole, or to an enterprise, as well as to individuals. The sense of personal responsibility for safety issues translates into the safety culture in enterprises. The study has applied a tool which allows to assess the safety climate, which indirectly allows monitoring the level of safety culture. The research in the safety climate allows to determine employees’ attitudes in the field of occupational health and safety, and to diagnose the procedures functioning in different organisations.
Celem artykułu jest ukazanie kultury bezpieczeństwa jako istotnego elementu zarządzania firmą, oraz roli, jaką odgrywa kształtowanie kultury bezpieczeństwa w zarządzaniu firmą. Pojęcie kultury bezpieczeństwa można odnieść zarówno do społeczeństwa czy przedsiębiorstwa, jak i do jednostki. Poczucie osobistej odpowiedzialności za sprawy bezpieczeństwa przekłada się na kulturę bezpieczeństwa w przedsiębiorstwach. W badaniach posłużono się narzędziem pozwalającym na ocenę klimatu bezpieczeństwa, co pośrednio pozwala na monitorowanie poziomu kultury bezpieczeństwa. Badanie klimatu bezpieczeństwa pozwala określić postawy pracowników w zakresie bezpieczeństwa i higieny pracy, a także diagnozuje procedury funkcjonujące w organizacjach.

In this article the author indicates the necessity of application of transmedia perspective in mediatization research. He understands mediatization research as a kind of analysis that investigatesthe interrelation between the change of media and communication on the one hand and culture and society on the other, refl ecting the transforming role of media within this interrelation. The author emphasises that the idea of communicative fi gurations makes a mediatization research in a transmedia perspective possible. Communicative figurations are patterns of processes of communicative interweaving that exist across various media and have a “frame” that orients communicative action and therefore the sense-making practices of this figuration.

This article was written on the basis of the project ‘See Culture: The Archive of Visual Materials from Research into Culture in Poland’ conducted in 2014. It speaks of the internet creation of a social database using visual materials—the Visual Archive (archiwumwizualne.pl). The authors present their findings from interviews with members of the research teams and directors of the projects that were included in the internet archive. These primarily concern the various approaches and research practices of the interlocutors and their definitions of visual material’s potential as a tool in social research. The profiles of the researchers presented earlier is then compared to the category of the practice-oriented intellectual, which broadens the classical understanding of the intellectual and points to an emerging manner of thinking about research practice in contemporary social sciences. The usefulness of the Visual Archive for the practice-oriented intellectual is indicated.

Aim: The study is aimed at outlining the functioning of the Cieszyn Research School for Borderland Culture and Education, founded and developed over the last three decades by Professor Tadeusz Lewowicki at the University of Silesia in Katowice, Faculty of Ethnology and Educational Sciences (currently: Faculty of Art and Educational Science). Methods: The School’s activity was described on the basis of the concept of distinguishing and estimating seven factors/phenomena attributed to a scientific school – genealogy, time, place, self-awareness, ideological core, methodological core and writings, styles and worldviews, developed by Zbysław Muszyński. Results: The article synthetically presents the results of team research initiated in 1989 in the Polish-Czech borderland in Cieszyn Silesia. The researchers focused on educational environments (family, school, local communities, churches of various denominations), problems of social and educational policy, socialization and identity formation, teacher’s work in multicultural conditions and social conditions of intercultural education. The result of these undertakings is the series “Edukacja Interkulturowa /Intercultural Education/”, published since 1992, which currently comprises 95 volumes. Conclusions: Over thirty years of theoretical achievements, research results and practical experience of the Cieszyn Research School for Borderland Culture and Education, as well as of other Polish research centers dealing with the issues of multi- and intercultural education, became the basis for developing a synthesis containing the outline of intercultural pedagogy – as a discipline of educational science.

Szczególnie dużo miejsca poświęca problematyce i modelom analitycznym w badaniach nad dyskursem publicznym oraz identyfikacji celów i przedmiotów zainteresowań charakterystycznych dla zaprezentowanych w książce perspektyw badawczych.
The text is the result of a targeted reading of the book edited by Marek Czyżewski, Michał Otocki, Tomasz Piekot, and Jerzy Stachowiak under the title “An Analysis of Public Discourse. A Review of Methods and Research Perspectives” against the background of the need to develop a problematizing research culture. In the context of other works in the field of discourse research methodology, the authoress of the essay focuses on the teaching usefulness of the publication, mapping selected elements of methodological knowledge. She devotes a great deal of space to the problems and analytical models in research on public discourse and to the identification of goals and objects of interest characteristic of the research perspectives presented in the book.

The kaleidoscope category adopted in relation to school culture is meant to emphasise the diversity in the identificationof this scientificcategory. I refer to analyses of the definitionsof the term school culture as well as to research perspectives and attempts to specify the notion. As a result, some research areas identifying school culture have been recognised and theoretical and empirical perspectives of the understanding the specificityof school culture have been scrutinised from two separate perspectives. One of them is vertical and includes the history of educational research, in which school culture emerged at the interface of other scientificdisciplines. The other one, horizontal, focuses on the contemporary meaning of research and analyses of school culture in the area of educational studies.

The article presents the results of an Internet questionnaire examining high school graduates’ (general education high schools and technical high schools) perceptions on aesthetical and cultural education in the institutional context. The study was based on students’ narratives gathered by means of a purpose- designed interview questionnaire using the methodology of interpretive anthropology in relation to the perspective of an ‘insider’ or a ‘local’. The results were further organised accordingly with the strategy of horizonalisation, which made it possible to construct a model encompassing all the participants’ contributions.

The article provides a methodological review of research reports published in the main Polish journals of education. The query encompass the papers published in the seven journals from 2008 to 2011. Ones of the properties which have been observed are: research strategy, research question and hypothesis, type of sampling, size of sample, method of data collection and data analysis, and include type of statistical analysis. The results show that reports where quantitative strategy was used are overrepresented. In many cases generalization of research results has been done by authors. Moreover, this generalization was independent from type of sampling, research strategy and design. There was not differences in the scope of report transparency. The analysis also points out the diversity of research strategy due to affiliation of authors and overrepresentation of authors from two universities.

While investigations into incels online have increased, most have focused on their potential for violence, their misogyny, extremist ideologies, and their mental health. Very little has been devoted to examining the nuances of that subcultural group. The research in this paper examines the hierarchy that has been established within the incel subculture, online, and how that hierarchy is policed using various mechanisms such as reporting “fakecels” to the moderators to have them banned and insults. Findings show that there are clear hierarchical delineations of incels in general, with “blackpill” incels being the most extreme in their worldview and their use of science (albeit cherry-picked) to justify the incel ideology. The researchers also found that there is a hierarchy specific to the online forum from which data were gathered. The paper concludes that understanding incel subculture is salient in addressing the potential threats of violence and treating those individuals who no longer want to identify as incels. Future directions of research would be to examine why boys and men identify as incels.

The paper Towarzystwo Kultury Języka (Society for Language Culture): the past and the present is a brief recollection of the history of Towarzystwo Poprawności Języka Polskiego (Society for the Proper Use of the Polish Language) and Towarzystwo Krzewienia Poprawności i Kultury Języka (Society for the Propagation of the Proper Use and Culture of the Polish Language), scientific societies operating in the period 1932–1939, the successor of which is Towarzystwo Kultury Języka (Society for Language Culture). It reminds also of the directions of the operation of TKJ and its accomplishments, with a particular focus on the works concerned with the implementation of the project entitled „Dialog pokoleń” (Dialogue of generations) and cooperation with the local governments of Mazovia and Podlasie poviats, cities and towns.

Ethnoanimation connects ethnographic research and culture animation. This method has been developed for ten years by Tomasz Rakowski, The Field Collective and author of the text. The last project where the method was tested was the laboratory known as the “Local dimensions of cultural participation. Ethnographic action research”, Warsaw University within a larger framework of a Ministry of Culture grant “Creating bottom-up culture”. In this project students and The Field Collective created an ethnoanimation project in the villages of Zaława and Cukrówka in Poland. They reflected upon them by putting them on an “animation zip” diagram according to the level of cohesion between animation and ethnography in their projects. The “animation zip” as an useful tool that may be interpreted inthe context of “best practices” of culture animation defined by National Culture Centre to define typical features of ethnoanimation practices. In this text the author tries to answer the question–what makes an ethnoanimation project most effective.
