Because of the formal and non-formal changes which are taking place in Polish higher education, the role and function of the university is also changing. Contemporary Polish students consider higher education as one of the phases of their career. The new generations of students expect rapid and effective education, perceiving academic education as a purchase of services or professional training.  The aim of the study was to diagnose if those trends are visible also in the processes of communication between the students and the academic staff. To verify this thesis, the author diagnoses the language expression of students, in the form of essay writing. Expressions were analysed quantitatively and were correlated with some chosen indicators of the students social background. Results indicated that students language expression could be divided into three types: mixed, restricted and elaborate expression. Each of those types can be classified as social codes, which have their own features. Gathered data only partially confirmed the hypothesis tested by the author. Because of the low scale of the study, it can only be considered an inspiration for other researchers and future studies on a high-scale level.

Wpływ tzw. „nowych mediów” na komunikację w świecie rzeczywistym już niejednokrotnie był przedmiotem naukowych dociekań. Permanentny rozwój internetowych form komunikacji otwiera wciąż nowe obszary eksploracyjne, które obejmują już nie tylko komunikację językową, lecz także komunikację za pomocą innych kodów semiotycznych. Zjawisko to zostanie w przedstawionym referacie omówione na przykładzie znacznika „#”. Po tym, jak upowszechnił się on jako sygnalizator hashtagów na portalu Twitter, zaskakująco szybko dało się zaobserwować jego przeniesienie do komunikacji poza Internetem, szczególnie w kontekście kampanii wyborczych.
The influence of the so called ‘new media’ on the communication in the non-virtual reality has already been many times subject to scientific investigations. The permanent development of the communication forms on the Internet opens more and more new exploratory areas, which are no longer restricted only to verbal communication, but include also the communication using other semiotic codes. This phenomenon has been discussed in this article based on the ‘#’ symbol. After it had become widespread as the tag indicator on Twitter, it was transferred into the communication besides Internet as well.

Opis:
Ludwik Kondratowicz (1823–1862)—widely known as Władysław Syrokomla—is a Polish Romantic writer who lived and worked in the areas of today’s Lithuania and Belarus (then the region annexed by Russia). The main purpose of this article is to prove that Syrokomla treated urban space as a multi-layered sign structure referring to hidden meanings. By analysing the writer’s texts, the author of the article concludes that Nesvizh, as presented in the pages of Syrokomla’s works, is semiotic in nature. The writer treats the city like a “book” written as a historical and cultural text. Reading this text requires an appropriate spiritual and intellectual condition. It turns out that the meticulousness of the descriptions of urban space results from the belief that the meaning of individual objects can be properly recognized in a closed semiotic system. The objects presented by Syrokomla—due to their symbolic qualities—refer to the space of meaning, which is the history of Poland presented in a spiritual and mystical way. The texts analysed in the article reveal the desire to achieve spiritual fusion with the city space and its civilization, which is very close to the author due to the cultural code he uses.

In this instalment of their series of publications on Stefan Wiechecki’s language and style, the authors study items of the Polish Newspeak referring to democracy as used in his post-war feuilletons. Considering such use as a case of linguistic-cultural code interference, they show how these items are adopted and transformed by the Warsaw urban dialect represented by the speech of Wiechecki’s characters, who reinterpret the propagandist and ideological senses of these items, either deconstructing their original euphemistic message or adapting it to their own needs.
W swojej nowej pracy o języku i stylu Stefana Wiecheckiego autorzy badają użycie jednostek polskiej nowomowy odnoszących się do demokracji w powojennych felietonach tego pisarza. Podchodząc do takiego użycia jako przypadku interferencji kodów językowo-kulturowych, pokazują, w jaki sposób te jednostki były ujmowane i przekształcane przez warszawską gwarę miejską bohaterów Wiecheckiego, którzy reinterpretują ideologiczno-propagandowe znaczenie tych jednostek, dekonstruując ich pierwotne eufemistyczne przesłanie albo dostosowując je do swoich własnych potrzeb.

This article is an attempt at presenting the concept of cultural codes, which was earlier discussed in works of Russian and Ukrainian scholars in field of ethnolinguistics and linguoculturological aspects. The key linguoculturological terms, such as cultural code and ethnocode, were explained. The author of this article analysed already existing in Ukrainian and Russian linguistics theoretical basics of defining, isolating and classifying cultural codes.
W artykule podjęto próbę zaprezentowania koncepcji kodów kultury rozwiniętej w pracach rosyjskich i ukraińskich lingwistów. Należytą uwagę zwrócono na wyjaśnienie kluczowych pojęć lingwokulturologii, a mianowicie kod kultury, etnokod kultury. Poddano analizie istniejące teoretyczne podstawy definiowania, wyodrębniania oraz klasyfikacji kodów kultury znane w językoznawstwie ukraińskim i rosyjskim.

The study of dynamic codes in various social and legal conditions and the problems of agnonymy in intercultural communication allow us to automatically assert that collective memory and a common past are the basis of socialism, language, as a true chronicler, records everything in its linguistic picture of the world. The informative value of a communicative unit is determined not only by its correlations with a specific denotate, but also by the specific emotional-aesthetic attitude of native speakers towards it, which are uniform manifestations in a given linguistic and cultural community. The scientific and technological revolution accelerates the processes leading to agnonymy (dynamics of vocabulary and connotative meanings, dynamics of printed forms, urban palimpsests, text modifications, etc.).

Literatura fantastyczna, choć z zasady egzomimetyczna, wielokrotnie sięga po elementy pochodzące z realnego świata i różnych kultur, a w tekstach znanych autorów daje zauważyć się wykorzystywanie kodu kulturowego do uprawdopodobnienia opisywanych historii, bohaterów oraz świata przedstawionego. Jednym z chętnie wykorzystywanych aspektów kodu kulturowego w fantastyce są elementy folkloru oraz wierzeń obecnych w danej kulturze i utrwalonych w używanym przez wspólnotę języku. Chociaż czynią one tekst bardziej interesujący, referencje do baśniowych postaci czy ludowych czarów mogą stanowić istotną przeszkodę tłumaczeniową, a rozwiązanie takiego problemu będzie wymagało szczególnych strategii translatorskich. Jednym z autorów sprawnie operujących kodem kulturowym w swoich dziełach był Terry Pratchett, co jest szczególnie widoczne w jego cyklu książkowym „Świat Dysku”. Celem niniejszego artykułu jest pokazanie, jak w wybranych pozycjach z serii „Świat Dysku” funkcjonują referencje do folkloru, jaką rolę pełnią oraz prezentacja problemów i strategii obecnych w polskim przekładzie powieści wchodzących w skład cyklu.
Fantasy though being a fictional literary genre often contains elements from the real world and different cultures. In texts written by popular authors we can notice usage of the cultural codes  in order to make characters, plot or fictional world more probable. One of the elements of the code which is commonly used in fantasy novels are elements of folklore or folk beliefs present in a particular region. On the one hand, they make a text more interesting for the reader, and on the other, names of legendary characters or local superstitions can create a significant obstacle for a translator, who will look for specific translational strategies. One of authors using elements of the cultural code in his books was Terry Pratchett. This can be observed especially in his series “The Discworld”. In this article some problems connected with elements of folklore and translational strategies will be presented on the example of extracts of the “Discworld” novels.

The article discusses the treatment of fertility and the means of its expression in traditional culture. The relevant questions include: how to speculate about fertility, how to protect and stimulate it in communal and family customs, how to hinder fertility and cause infertility through word and gesture. The author argues that the verbal code as the carrier of symbolic meanings is inalienably linked with other cultural codes: material, personal, actional, involving music and dance, temporal, and locative. The codes function interchangeably, replacing and complementing one another.
Autorka podejmuje kwestie płodności w kulturze tradycyjnej i sposoby jej wyrażania, charakteryzuje sposoby wnioskowania o płodności, możliwości wpływania na płodność, jej ochronę i pobudzanie w obrzędowości dorocznej i rodzinnej, daje przykłady hamowania płodności oraz powodowania niepłodności słowem i gestem. Dowodzi, że kod werbalny jako nośnik znaczeń symbolicznych, pozostaje w ścisłym powiązaniu z innymi kodami kulturowymi: przedmiotowym, personalnym, akcjonalnym, muzycznotanecznym, temporalnym i lokatywnym. Służąc wyrażaniu sensów symbolicznych, kody funkcjonują wymiennie, zastępują się, przedłużają i dopełniają.

Tematem artykułu są komunikacyjne możliwości i znaczeniotwórczy potencjał koloru w dyskursie publicznym. Zakres analizowanego materiału wyznaczają dwa zdarzenia dyskursywne: Różowy Październik jako przykład kampanii społecznej oraz Czarny Protest jako przykład manifestacji społecznej. Celem badań jest określenie semiotycznej samodzielności barwy w komunikacie, funkcji koloru realizowanych w dyskursie publicznym oraz ocena zmian konotacyjnych barw motywowana współczesnymi aktywnościami społecznymi. W analizie została uwzględniona dodatkowo ocena semantyczna leksemu różowy i czarny. Materiał reprezentuje różnorodny charakter aktywności w domenie publicznej, którą tworzą doniesienia medialne w postaci tekstów multimodalnych w medium sieciowym. Zaprezentowane dane stanowią wybraną reprezentację warstwy werbalnej oraz kluczowych wizualnych desygnatów współwystępujących z kolorem w analizowanych zdarzeniach dyskursywnych. Badania pokazują zmiany w zakresie semantycznym leksemów, nazywających kolory oraz uwidaczniają korelację dyskursu medialnego z dyskursem publicznym. Efektem obserwacji i analizy jest wniosek o kontekstowo uwarunkowanej samodzielności znakowej barwy. W efekcie kolor zostaje określony jako wtórnie samodzielny system komunikacyjny w dyskursie publicznym.
The article concerns the communicative and meaning-creating potential of colour in the public discourse. The scope of the analyzed material consists of two discursive events: Pink October as an example of a social campaign and Black Protest as an example of a social demonstration. The research aims to determine the semiotic independence of colour in the message, the functions of colour implemented in public discourse, and assess the connotative changes of colours motivated by contemporary social activities. For this purpose, the analysis also considered the semantic evaluation of the pink and black lexemes. The material represents the diverse nature of activity in the public domain, collected based on observation of media reports - multimodal texts in a digital medium. The presented data is a selected representation of the verbal layer and key visual referents coexisting with colour in a given discursive event. The research shows semantic changes in the field of lexemes naming colours, and draws attention to the correlation of media discourse with public discourse. The result of observation and analysis is the conclusion about the contextually dependent semantic independence of the colour. The conclusions define colour as a secondary independent communication system in public discourse.

The article reviews specific features of the Georgian linguistic world image shaped during the long period of its existence. The analysis covers the cultural concepts and language markers that reflect the national characteristics. Being a special kind of cross-cultural communication, translation is a process of overcoming the linguistic and cultural barriers, and includes transcoding of language code as well as the cultural one. On the one hand, it uncovers the discrepancies between the key concepts in different cultures, and on the other hand, it demonstrates existence of the similar language markers of the ‘global cultural space’ that is being formed.

Belarusian poetry is defined by the presence of many common worldwide literary archetypes: the House, the Stranger, the Boundaries, the Transformation, the Sacrifice, and others. It is believed that in poetic works of J. Czykwin one archetype often means an emphasis of the other. A combination of several archetypes is clearly manifested in the verse, the primary basis of which serves a daily human life and its surrounding reality. The image of the House in the works of J. Czykwin is conceptually multidimensional, emotionally and spiritually rich, full of ontological content. J. Czykwin’s poetry embodies a unique spiritual experience, national cultural code of the Belarusian people, which occurs through the use of archetypical images and motives inherent to the Belarusian culture.
Poezja białoruska charakteryzuje sie licznymi archetypami obecnymi również w literaturze świtowej, takimi jak dom, obcy, granica, transformacja, poświęcenie i inne. W utworach poetyckich Jana Czykwina jeden archetyp jest środkiem do zaakcentowania innego. Połączenie kilku archetypów najbardziej widoczne jest w poezji, której podstawę stanowią codzienne zmagania człowieka i otaczająca rzeczywistość. Obraz domu w twórczości J. Czykwina jest wielowymiarowy, emocjonalnie i duchowo wzbogacony ontologiczna treścią. Poezja J. Czykwina uosabia unikalne duchowe doświadczenie, narodowo-kulturowy kod Białorusinów.

Artykuł poświęcony jest kwestii rozumienia przez dzieci dwujęzyczne pochodzenia ukraińskiego mieszkające w Polsce i mówiące zarówno po ukraińsku, jak i po polsku ukraińskich kodów kulturowych ukrytych w bajkach ludowych. Badanie mowy dzieci dwujęzycznych pochodzenia ukraińskiego jest zagadnieniem nader aktualnym i ważnym we współczesnej lingwistyce. Kody kulturowe są fundamentalną częścią każdej kultury. Celem danego badania jest wyeksponowanie i przeanalizowanie rozumienia przez dzieci dwujęzyczne pochodzenia ukraińskiego, mieszkające za granicą, kodów kulturowych ukrytych w nazwach popularnych bohaterów ukraińskich bajek ludowych. Rozumienie, umiejętność zdefiniowania i opisania wybranych bohaterów przez dzieci odzwierciedla znajomość ukraińskich bajek ludowych oraz ich konotacje związane z wybranymi nazwani własnymi. Analiza przeprowadzonych ankiet ujawnia identyfikację i szczegółowe cechyodbierania kodów kulturowych i tłumaczenie ich z punktu widzenia native speakera pod wpływemzewnętrznych czynników językowych i kulturowych.
The article deals with the problem of how bilingual children speaking Ukrainian and Polish and living in Poland understand and comprehend the Ukrainian cultural codes from folk tales. Research on the speech of bilingual Ukrainian children is a highly relevant direction in modern linguistics. Cultural codes are a key part of each culture. The aim of the research is to indicate and analyse how bilingual Ukrainian children living abroad understand cultural codes submerged in the names of well-known characters from Ukrainian folk tales. The ability to define describe and understand these characters shows the children’s knowledge of Ukrainian folktales and the connotations of selected proper names. The analysis of the surveys reveals how the peculiarities of cultural codes are identified, understood and explained by native speakers under the influence of external lingual and cultural factors.

The offered paper is devoted to research of methodological prospect of „cultural code” notion when the basic comparison linguoculturological (ethno)culture – (ethno)consciousness – language triad is studied. The author grounds the expediency of introduction of „complex comparison standard” method as a mechanism of tertium comparationis determination when linguoculturological comparison of comparative phraseological units in allied and non-allied languages, in which cultural codes are taxons connecting main semiotic system – the language and the culture, is made.

Opis:
In the article there are discussed the names of modern settlements in Ukraine, motivated by church-Christian vocabulary. It was found out that such an oikonim is formed out of microtoponimes motivated by appellates to denote sacral structures; from the general or proper names that originally indicated the belonging of the object to clerics, on collective names denoting a family, a family, a collection of such persons were named an omonim nickname, surname; from naming the consecrated church or on the occasion of the settlement or its renaming in the time of the church-Christian holiday; from the collective names of persons named for belonging to a particular parish; series of appellates with sacred semantics; from anthroponimes with the original God and so on. It is proved that the oikonimes that explicate the information of the spiritual linguistic and cultural code are equally widespread both in time (from archaic to modern) and in space (throughout the territory of Ukraine). This indicates the continuity of the Ukrainian tradition of naming settlements.

Opis:
The article is devoted to an important aspect of modern aesthetics – intertextuality, which is discussed on the example of film adaptations of Russian classics. Adaptation is considered in the framework of literary-scientific reflection on “translating” verbal text for the audiovisual channel. Procedures connected with intertextuality and game-based technologies are subjected to interpretation in the context of contemporary cinema’s avant-garde artistic searches.
Статья посвящена важному аспекту современной эстетики – интертекстуальности, которая обсуждается на примере экранизации классики. Экранизация рассматривается в русле научного осмысления литературоведением «перевода» вербального текста в аудиовизуальный ряд. В контексте авангардных поисков современного кинематографа как синтеза искусств интерпретируются приемы интертекстуальности и игровых технологий.
