    The article discusses the concept of a cultural boundary put forward by the Austrian anthropogeographer Erwin Hanslik. Although it inspired a large group of Germanspeaking geographers, its creator was forgotten. The holistic philosophy of Hanslik and his distance to nationalism contributed to this, and it was not prevented by the innovativeness of the media he used. The scholar’s worldview was related to his biography and identity, based on his attachment to his native region and to the Habsburg monarchy, treated as a space for a multiethnic community shaped by nature.

    Limes Slavicus: A Project of the Department of History and Theory of Literature at Konstantin Preslavsky University of Shumen (Bulgaria)The text presents the three volumes of the Limes Slavicus series of the Faculty of Humanities at Konstantin Preslavsky University of Shumen. W artykule zaprezentowano podstawowe tezy tekstów włączonych do serii, ale także poruszono problem zawartości semantycznej tytułowego pojęcia „słowiańskich konceptów kulturowych”, jak również kwestie wymagające ponownego zbadania ze strony słowiańskiej wspólnoty kulturowej: strach przed ideologizacją, slawizacja idei uniwersalnych.

    Opis:
    This article aims at presenting, through the anthropological and pedagogical lenses, the reality show: “Azja Express” (TVN 2016) as an example of media “invading” the cultural and physical space of an “other” by the western non-habitants. Article draws upon preliminary findings from content analyse of the episodes from the first polish version of the show, disclosing the ways in which the meeting with the “otherness”, in that case, the indigenous societies, is being conceptualized by the contestants and shaped by the producers agenda. Upon this examination authors claimed that the ways of presenting the otherness which have been broadcasted contribute to reproducing the patterns familiar to the western contestant, thus reinforcing the “orientalization” of the local context. Therefore, this TV format is rather the way for self-presentation of the “travelebrities” hitchhiking through the Global South countries with the indigenous culture as “film set”, than the opportunity for cross cultural dialogue and learning. Those conclusions raise the need for the building the intercultural and media competences among the viewers.
    Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie w ujęciu antropologicznym i pedagogicznym reality show „Azja Express” (TVN, 2016), jako przykładu mediów „naruszających” kulturową i fizyczną przestrzeń „innego” przez zachodnich nie-mieszkańców. Tekst opiera się na wstępnych ustaleniach z dokonanej analizy treści epizodów pierwszej polskiej wersji tego programu, ukazując sposoby, w jakich spotkania z „innością”, w tym przypadku z rdzennymi społecznościami, są konceptualizowane przez uczestników i ukazane przez producentów tego reality show. Na podstawie przeprowadzonych badań autorki stwierdziły, że sposoby prezentacji odmienności, które zostały ukazane w programie, wzmacniają „orientalizację” kontekstu lokalnego poprzez reprodukcję konkretnych wzorców spotkań z innością występujących u zawodników. Dlatego taka forma programu telewizyjnego jest sposobem autoprezentacji „trawelebrytów”, którzy przemierzają autostopem kraje Globalnego Południa. Ich kontakty z rdzenną kulturą traktowane są bardziej jako „plan filmowy” niż możliwość zaistnienia międzykulturowego dialogu i uczenia się. Wnioski te wskazują na potrzebę budowania kompetencji międzykulturowych i medialnych wśród telewidzów.

    Basing on own experiences in studying cemetery space, the possibilities of using LiDAR visualization in acquiring information on changes in the boundaries of Christian and Jewish necropolises were demonstrated on selected examples. The application of the methods indicated in the article comprises the significant supplementation of terrain inspection, considerably expanding knowledge about a given site. The use of digital elevation models has been popular since their introduction, especially in the archaeological community, as it allows for feature recognition without conducting invasive prospection, including excavation. As it has turned out, in the course of the research conducted by the author, the use of LiDAR tools should be an integral part of the geographical analysis. This highlights the need to promote interdisciplinary in the research on cultural heritage sites.

    This chapter focuses on several aspects affecting the life of binational marriages currently residing in Poland. Examined herein are the dilemmas which transnational couples face in deciding about place of residence, language(s) of communication, the culture of their children’s education, etc. Also of interest are assessments of both the positive and negative aspects of transnational married life as well as the unique problems identified by the spouses in their descriptions. These marriages have been analyzed as a case of cultural contact under the circumstances of strong emotional ties and a special closeness which underscore the slightest of cultural differences separating the partners. At the same time, it is on their basis that boundaries are shattered between what is familiar and what is foreign. The analyzed material is drawn from long-term qualitative research – specifically 65 in-depth interviews conducted in Warsaw and several other Polish cities over the past decade with one or both spouses. In each case, one of the partners is of Polish nationality while the other comes from Europe, Africa, Latin America or Asia.

    The paper comprises a theoretical exploration focused upon the ethnic borderland and the potential factors of its decomposition present and active in contemporary world. Namely, attention and discussion had been focused upon peculiarity of ethnic borderland build and maintained by social and neighbourhood relationships between members of numerous local ethnic groups, and its distinction from areas located near the border-line, on the one, and from the social boundaries on the other hand. The argument of this paper is that contemporary further existence of ethnic borderland has been threatened by a number of factors, among them the uniformity caused by cultural globalisation, that is by globally transmitted products of popular culture, by mass emigration from the borderland, by multiculturalism, and by gradual deconstruction of the nation-state.

The author of the article lists the most important information about her life, characterized by a poetic and translation achievements; the author also discusses the main features of Hartwig’s language and her attitude towards the world. The article draws attention to the role of memory and image. It also characterizes the ethical dimension of the poetry and the relationship with the great tradition of the European culture.
