The goal of the analysis is to reconstruct a common model of the notion of multiculturalism, linked to activities in the field of culture, in local communities of the borderland. The phenomenon observed in Poland is the appearance of the idea of multiculturalism which does not refer to a real ethnic diversification. The represented analysis allows formulation of a thesis, that this phenomenon may be connected with external pressure of globalisation processes and mechanisms of institutional development of local culture in the European Union. Such factors cause usage of resources connected with multicultural heritage by local leaders, for utilisation of this heritage grants tangible benefits for the local community. Unfortunately, at the same time such activities result in rather avoidance of multicultural contacts than their development. This concept of multiculturalism is connected with artificial tolerance and does not contribute to the development of an open society.

Artykuł porusza problem tzw. gettoizacji aktywności kulturalnej seniorów. Polega ono na tym, że instytucje kultury, tworząc ofertę, kierują ją wyłącznie do konkretnych grup wiekowych, czyli np. tylko do dzieci lub seniorów. Uczestnicy podlegają zatem separacji i tworzy się w ten sposób „getta wiekowe”. Autorka na wstępnie charakteryzuje aktywność kulturalną starszych osób w Polsce, odwołując się do badań, a następnie koncentruje się na uwarunkowaniach „gettoizacji” aktywności kulturalnej seniorów. W zakończeniu wskazuje na ryzyko, jakie niesie ze sobą separowanie grup wiekowych, a także na potrzebę zrównoważenia ofert „wygrodzonych”, „na wyłączność” dla seniorów przez oferty międzypokoleniowe.
The article discusses the problem of the so-called “ghettoization” of senior’s cultural activity. It consists in the fact that cultural institutions while creating an offer direct it exclusively to some specific age groups like children or seniors. Participants are therefore separated and this creates “age ghetto.” In the first part of the article the author, by referring to researches, characterizes cultural activities of older people in Poland and then focuses on the determinants of “ghettoization” of cultural activity of seniors. Finally, the author indicates the risk connected with separating various age groups and the need to balance “fenced” offers which are designed “exclusively” for seniors through more intergenerational offers.

The concept and assumptions of this paper arise from theoretical and empirical statements which regard activity as a factor having impact on psycho-physical fitness of an elderly person and their satisfaction with life. An elderly person’s activity can manifest itself in different forms and in different fields. The paper is focused on cultural activity because it is one of important types of human activity which, pursued in free time, brightens life up and makes it more attractive. The writer’s attention in the paper is concentrated on presentation of senior women’s contacts with popular culture. On the basis of the author’s own research the role of mass media in the life of senior women has been presented. Frequency of and reasons for watching television, listening to the radio, reading newspapers and magazines as well as connecting to and using the Internet have been discussed. The research has shown that contacts with different forms of popular culture have a beneficial influence of the life of elderly women. Television was the most willingly and most frequently selected form. It also has to be emphasized that despite the growing familiarity with computers and the Internet, still a significant proportion of senior women does not use tchem.

W tekście podjęta została kwestia autotelicznego i instrumentalnego znaczenia aktywności kulturalnej osób starszych. Odnosząc się do literatury, autorka wskazuje, że autoteliczność jest cechą definicyjną praktyk z obszaru kultury symbolicznej i odróżnia ją od kultury bytu oraz socjetalnej. W rzeczywistości jednak granice te nie są nieprzekraczalne. W artykule zaprezentowane zostały wyniki wtórnej analizy materiału z badań empirycznych aktywności kulturalnej osób starszych (wywiadów indywidualnych pogłębionych), ukierunkowanej pytaniami o podejścia (znaczenie) seniorów do aktywności kulturalnej; o to, czy zorientowane są one autotelicznie, czy raczej instrumentalnie oraz jaką rangę mają założenia instrumentalne w wyłonionych podejściach. Na tej podstawie zrekonstruowano siedem typów seniorów-uczestników przypisujących swojej aktywności kulturalnej odmienne znaczenia lokujące się pomiędzy dwoma biegunami: autoteliczności i instrumentalności.
The article addresses the issue of the autotelic and instrumental function of the cultural activity of seniors. In reference to the literature, the author points out that autotelicity is a definitional feature of practices in the field of symbolic culture. She presents the results of a secondary analysis of data obtained in empirical research on the cultural activity of older people. This includes in-depth individual interviews, focused on questions about seniors’ approaches to cultural activity (meaning of cultural activity); about whether they are oriented autotelically or rather instrumentally and about the rank of the instrumental functions in distinguished approaches. The analysis reconstructed seven types of senior participants who attributed to their cultural activity different meanings which were located in between the poles of autotelicity and instrumentality.

This paper is devoted to the cultural activity of the Russian emigrant, writer, journalist, critic and author of the memoirs – Aleksandr Khiryakov (1863-1940) in interwar Warsaw. His activity proves that he was an important representative of the diaspora, however he was marginalized by literary scholars. Khiryakov was involved in the life of the emigration community as a member of numerous literary groups and social committees. He initiated significant projects, voiced important ideas and actively cooperated with opinion-forming Russian newspapers, which propagated among their readers the conviction of their responsibility for the fate of Russia as well as its political and cultural missions.

The article presents the opportunities the church institutions have to stimulate the older generation. The Church plays an important role in seniors' life and religious practices and their awareness of being needful for the church is very important. Religiousness is also a form of leisure activities preferred by older adults. From this perspective we can see how great potential the church has to activate seniors. In addition to evangelization and worship church is able to offer them a lot of proposals meeting their socio-cultural and educational needs. Education provided by church is not limited to the Bible only, it is present during pilgrimages to the holy places, prayer meetings and social events, trips to cinema, theater and in the organizing of various events not strictly connected with religious practices. The most important thing is that all forms of seniors' animation bring the possibility of interpersonal contacts what is very important for this age group and highly improves the quality of their lives.

Celem artykułu jest analiza przepisów prawnych regulujących funkcjonowanie samorządowej instytucji kultury na przykładzie Muzeum im. Jacka Malczewskiego w Radomiu. Muzeum im. Jacka Malczewskiego jako samorządowa instytucja kultury realizuje zadania publiczne. Jest to jednostka organizacyjna nienastawiona na osiąganie zysku, której cel stanowi gromadzenie i trwała ochrona dóbr naturalnego i kulturalnego dziedzictwa ludzkości o charakterze materialnym i niematerialnym, informowanie o wartościach i treściach gromadzonych zbiorów, upowszechnianie podstawowych wartości historii, nauki i kultury polskiej oraz światowej, kształtowanie wrażliwości poznawczej i estetycznej oraz umożliwianie korzystania ze zgromadzonych zbiorów. Niemniej jednak może prowadzić dodatkową działalność, z której uzyskane środki będą wykorzystywane na realizację zadań statutowych.
The purpose of the article is to analyze the legal provisions governing the functioning of local government cultural institutions on the example of the Jacek Malczewski Museum in Radom. The Jacek Malczewski Museum as a local government institution of culture fulfills public tasks. It is a non-profit organizational unit whose aim is to collect and permanently protect tangible and intangible goods of natural and cultural heritage of humanity, to inform about the values and contents of the gathered collections, to popularize the basic values of Polish and world history, science and culture, to shape cognitive and aesthetic sensitivity and to enable the use of the gathered collections. Nevertheless, it may carry out additional activities, the proceeds from which will be used for the implementation of statutory task.

W artykule wskazano główne przejawy aktywności kulturowej ludności kaszubskiej na ziemi bytowskiej od jej początków w okresie reformacji po dzisiaj. Zwrócono uwagę na początkowe inicjatywy w okresie nowożytnym i w XIX wieku, jednak główną uwagę poświęcono okresowi następującemu po przebudzeniu kulturowym Kaszubów na przełomie XIX i XX wieku. W okresie międzywojennym głównymi czynnikami kulturotwórczymi były polskie szkoły oraz aktywność Związku Polaków w Niemczech. Ich dziedzictwo w dużej mierze stało się bazą dla rozwoju ruchu kaszubskiego po drugiej wojnie światowej, szczególnie w drugiej połowie lat czterdziestych oraz po październiku 1956 roku. Prawdziwy renesans aktywności kulturowej Kaszubów nastąpił po przełomie 1989 roku, a wynika zarówno z przychylności władz państwowych i samorządowych, jak i aktywności środowiska lokalnego.
The article indicates the main signs of cultural activity of the Kashubian populace in Bytów land from its beginnings in the Reformation period to contemporary times. It points out the first initiatives in the modern period and in the 19th century, although it focuses on the period following the cultural awakening of the Kashubians at the turn of the 19th century. In the interwar period, the main factors for culture creation were Polish schools and the activity of the Union of Poles in Germany. Their legacy has in great part become the basis for the development of the Kashubian movement after the Second World War, especially in the second half of the 1940s and after October 1956. The true renaissance of the Kashubian cultural activity occurred after the 1989 breakthrough and stems from both the favour of the state and local governments and the activity of the local environment.

Przedmiotem niniejszego opracowania jest analiza oraz krytyczne ujęcie regulacji publicznoprawnych dotyczących niezależności instytucji kultury, które tworzone są przez jednostki samorządu terytorialnego. W pracy, oprócz wskazówek, które mogą być przydatne zarówno praktykom prawa, jak również administratywistom, konfrontowane jest także stanowisko przedstawicieli doktryny oraz praktyki w kwestiach związanych z dostosowywaniem jakości i rodzaju usług instytucji względem woli polityki prowadzonej przez organizatora oraz oczekiwań członków społeczności samorządowej. W pracy wskazano na najważniejsze kwestie, jakie są związane z zależnością organizacyjną i finansową samorządowej instytucji kultury, a także na potrzebę wprowadzenia mechanizmów mających na celu sprostanie oczekiwaniom odbiorców w zakresie działalności komunalnych instytucji kultury lub chociaż zwrócenie na nie uwagi.
The subject of this study is the analysis and critical inclusion of public law regulations concerning the independence of cultural institutions, which are created by local self-government units. At work, in addition to guidance that may be useful both to law practitioners as well as administratists, the position of doctrinal representatives and practices is also confronted in issues related to aligning the quality and type of services of the institution with respect to the policy intent of the organizer and the expectations of the members of the local community. The paper highlights the most important issues related to the organizational and financial dependence of self-government cultural institutions, as well as the need to introduce mechanisms to adapt or at least to address the expectations of the public in the field of municipal cultural institutions.

The subject of this paper is the analysis and critical recognition of public law regulations concerning the creation of cultural institutions by local self-government units. In the paper, in addition to guidance that may be useful both to law practitioners as well as specialists in administrative law, the position of doctrinal representatives and practice in issues related to the mere execution of the law by the organs of local self-government units is also confronted. The paper highlights the most important issues related to the establishment of a self-governing cultural institution, among which can be mentioned: the issue of the act on the establishment of a cultural institution, its statute and registration.
Przedmiotem niniejszego opracowania jest analiza oraz krytyczne ujęcie regulacji publicznoprawnych dotyczących tworzenia instytucji kultury przez jednostki samorządu terytorialnego. W pracy, oprócz wskazówek, które mogą być przydatne zarówno praktykom prawa, jak i administratywistom, konfrontowane jest stanowisko przedstawicieli doktryny oraz praktyki w kwestiach związanych z samym procesem wykonywania prawa przez organy jednostek samorządu terytorialnego. Ponadto wskazano na najważniejsze kwestie, jakie są związane z utworzeniem samorządowej instytucji kultury, pośród których można wymienić: wydanie aktu o utworzeniu instytucji kultury, nadanie jej statutu i wpisanie do rejestru.

The aim of this article is to introduce the origins and work of the Gdansk University of the Third Age (GUTW), which celebrates its fifth anniversary this year. The GUTW operates within the organisational framework of the University of Gdansk and was established by a resolution of the University Senate in October 2004. The article's authors focus in particular on the educational role that the GUTW plays in the Tri-City community of older adults by meeting their needs in terms of lifelong learning. The students' participation in the lectures and workshops has become an inspiration for a group of students to take up activities which go beyond the GUTW curriculum, for instance to participate more consciously in culture, program their self-development and join others in developing interest groups and their agendas. One example of an interest group activity is the Education Without Borders GUTW Student's Scientific Group, which operates under the scientific guidance of Tomasz Maliszewski Ph. D. to carry out its projects in the educational and cultural milieu of the Gdansk Coast and allow its members to fulfil their own research aspirations.

Creative sector is considered to be an impetus for the progress and, at the same time, an indicator of the potential of national economic development. The problem of determining the character of the creative economy influence both on performance results of individual business entities and on economic development rates of countries on the whole is of current importance. The purpose of this paper is to show a relation between cultural activity of population and development of national economy on the basis of the comparative analysis of statistical indices of Ukraine and Poland. The six dimensions model of national culture by Professor Geert Hofstede, Gert Jan Hofstede, Michael Minkov was used for determination position of the Ukrainian culture on the way of transformations of state planned economy. The Ukrainian and Polish population’s cultural activity features were defined and linked to the GDP dynamics. Calculations of correlation coefficients allow to rather accurately predict a degree of cultural dependence on economic results of a country. Results of the comparative analysis were presented by formulas for each of the analyzed countries. Article carries out the comparative analysis of the spending patterns of EU, Poland and Ukraine and defines the character and structural dynamics of the culture expenses.
Sektor kreatywny postrzegany jest jako akcelerator postępu, a jednocześnie wskaźnik potencjału rozwoju gospodarczego. Problem określenia charakteru oddziaływania gospodarki kreatywnej zarówno na wyniki działalności indywidualnych podmiotów gospodarczych, jak i tempo rozwoju gospodarczego państw jako całości ma obecnie zasadnicze znaczenie. Celem opracowania jest ukazanie relacji pomiędzy aktywnością kulturową mieszkańców a rozwojem gospodarki narodowej w oparciu o analizę porównawczą statystycznych wskaźników dla Ukrainy i Polski. Sześciowymiarowy model kultury narodowej autorstwa Geerta Hofstede, Gerta Jana Hofstede i Michaela Minkova został wykorzystany dla określenia miejsca ukraińskiej kultury na ścieżce transformacji gospodarki centralnie planowanej. Zdefiniowano specyfikę aktywności kulturowej ludności Ukrainy i Polski oraz odniesiono ją do dynamiki PKB. Obliczenia wskaźników korelacji pozwalają dość dokładnie oszacować zależności między poziomem kultury i wynikami gospodarczymi kraju. Wyniki analizy porównawczej zostały zaprezentowane z wykorzystaniem formuł opracowanych dla każdego z analizowanych państw. W artykule przedstawiono ponadto analizę porównawczą wzorców wydatków w UE, Polsce i Ukrainie oraz określono charakter i dynamikę struktury wydatków na kulturę.

Opis:
The main aim of this article is recognition and description of the role of films concerning the issue of old age in the process of adaptation to it. The article contains a presentation of selected films, showing different ways of presenting golden agers on the screen. The author tries to substantiate a thesis that films about old age help seniors adapt to old age. She suggests that an active participation in culture is an important part of the process towards the old age education. Therefore an active participation in film culture improves the quality of life of the elderly. It also contributes to personal development, raises self-esteem and enables to preserve intellectual sterngths. The author discusses present tendencies in promoting film culture and gives examples for local cinemas and art-houses as places of education, socialization and integration into the seniors community
