Opis:
Polish F1 rye hybrids were tested in the field trials under Belarussian climatic conditions and compared to local varieties used as standards. Five-year investigations proofed that in spite of harder Belorussian winter conditions in comparison to these ones in Poland, winter-hardiness of hybrids was at the same level as of the population local standards. All hybrids were characterized by higher lodging resistance compared to standards, mainly due to lower plants height. One of the main problems which have to be solved is to find a reliable restorer. Use of population cultivars as pollinators so far was not resulted in a development of high-yielding hybrids. It is known that for P-CMS the genes of fertility restoration are scarce.

Actinidia arguta called also kiwiberry or minikiwi is a well-known ornamental climber, frequently cultivated in home gardens because of its vitality, decorativeness and valuable fruit. However, this species has gained new uses in recent years and is commercially cultivated – similar to its more famous relative – A. chinensis var. deliciosa (kiwifruit), for its valuable fruit. This paper presents basic information about systematics of Actinidia, morphology and fruit values as well as history of commercial cultivation of A. arguta and a description of its most important cultivars.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of different cultivars and weather conditions on the content of minerals: K, Na, Mg, Ca, Zn, Cu, Mn and Fe in linseed (Linum usitatissimum L.). In total, 11 common flax cultivars of four utility types were analysed. Field experiments were carried out in Poznań (Poland) between 2003 and 2005 and between 2008 and 2014. The study showed that the chemical composition of flax seeds was determined by differences between cultivars, the weather conditions and the cultivar-year interactions. The seeds of the Alba cultivar, representing the fibre type, had the highest content of all the elements measured in our study. The results demonstrated that none of the four types of utility cultivars was distinguished by a particularly high content of minerals in the seeds. Hence, the seeds of the flax cultivars of all the types used in our study may be used as sources of valuable macro- and microelements. The content of some minerals in the seeds of different flax cultivars was significantly correlated with the average temperatures and the average rainfall during the research period. The concentrations of calcium and zinc were not correlated with the weather conditions. The content of four elements (Na, Mg, Cu, Fe) was negatively correlated with temperature, whereas the content of potassium was positively correlated with this factor. Concentrations of three elements (K, Na, Fe) were negatively correlated with rainfall, whereas the concentration of manganese was positively correlated with this factor.

A total of 67 barley cultivars and breeding lines were tested for leaf rust resistance were tested with eight differential isolates. These isolates originated from IHAR Radzików collection and were chosen according to their virulence spectra. Among 67 cultivars and breeding lines 41 (61%) showed resistance reaction after inoculation with at least one isolate of leaf rust. In 29 cultivars and breeding lines (43.2%) the presence of specific resistance alleles was postulated.

Some 50 named cultivars of different Alnus species are known today; the first cultivar was already described in 1788. There is no current overall coverage of these varieties; some are considered lost to cultivation, very few of them are now part of modern plantings, most of them are only found in a few special collections. These cultivars show a remarkable variation in terms of growth, twig habit or leaf character. In Poland, the Zamoyski Nursery cultivated already around the turn of the last century a remarkable number of Alnus varieties. Today, only a few nurseries worldwide still propagate a larger number of varieties. Whenever information has been gathered, these cultivars are described in this paper, which aims to contribute towards the preservation of some of the beautiful or remarkable cultivars of alder (Alnus).

Reaction of 25 conventional and 63 determinate forms of faba bean to artificial inoculation with A. fabae and B. fabae was evaluated over five years. The severity of infection of faba bean with A. fabae was significantly higher than with B. fabae. This was observed for the both morphological types. Most of the conventional forms were less infected than the determinate forms, but it was more distinct for the A. fabae infection. Variable resistance reaction of cultivars was observed depending on pathogen and growth habit. In all years, conventional as well as determinate cultivars differed significantly in resistance to A. fabae. Significant variability of resistance to B. fabae was found only in one year for the conventional types and in another year for the determinate types of faba bean. It was found that some determinate cultivars showed higher resistance to A. fabae or B. fabae than most of the conventional forms, and some conventional forms were in the group of the most susceptible cultivars.

The Orchidacea are one of the largest families of flowering ornamental plants in the Pacific region, especially in the tropics. Among this group plants, attention should be paid to the intergeneric hybrid Mokara. The following 10 cultivars of the Mokara hybrid were used in the experiment: ‘Bloonlong’, ‘Calipso’, Chak Kuan’, ‘Chorcharood’, ‘Jenistar’, ‘Kitti’, ‘Pranee’, ‘Robin’, ‘Tammy’ and ‘Tangerine’. The tested Mokara cultivars are distinguished by a wide palette of warm colors, including many shades of orange and red. These are very rare colors among other popular genera of orchids.

This elaboration was based on yields of nine medium-early cultivars of potato grown in Karżniczka station belonging to COBORU(Research Centre for Cultivar Testing) and on monthly precipitation sums during the growing season (April – August). For each of the cultivars separately in subsequent years and for precipitation sums in particular months of the growing season (IV–VII) polynomial regression models of precipitation – cultivar’s yield – were calculated. At the beginning of the growing season the yield of medium-early cultivars of potato was negatively correlated with monthly precipitation sums, while in the final stage of vegetation – this correlation was positive. The lowest yield of Stasia cultivar was noted with monthly precipitation sum of 34–38 mm in April, Tajfun cultivar with May precipitation from 100 to 120 mm, Finezja and Jurek cultivars with monthly June precipitation of 120 mm. Whereas maximum yield of Cekin and Jurek cultivars was noted with August precipitation of about 100 mm.

Opis:
Ścisłe doświadczenie polowe z pszenicą ozimą zostało przeprowadzone w latach 2016-2019 w Stacji Doświadczalnej Oceny Odmian w Przecławiu. Czynnikami doświadczenia były: I – technologie uprawy o zróżnicowanym poziomie intensywności (średniointensywna -A1, wysokointensywna – A2), II – odmiany mieszańcowe i populacyjne pszenicy ozimej. Układ warunków pogodowych wywarł znaczący wpływ na większość badanych parametrów, w tym wielkość i jakość plonu pszenicy ozimej. Plon ziarna był wyższy na obiektach z technologią A2 w porównaniu do A1. Największym potencjałem plonotwórczym charakteryzowała się odmiana mieszańcowa Hybery, natomiast najniższym populacyjna odmiana Belissa i mieszańcowa Hyfi. Uprawa pszenicy w technologii wysokointensywnej (A2) sprzyjała uzyskaniu korzystniejszych wskaźników zawartości chlorofilu w liściu flagowym oraz wskaźników technologicznych ziarna (zawartości białka i glutenu oraz gęstości ziarna w stanie zsypnym).
The field experiment with winter wheat was conducted in the years 2016-2019 at the Experimental Station of Cultivar Assessment in Przecław. The experimental factors were: I – cultivation technologies with different intensity levels (medium-intensive A1 and high-intensive A2), II – hybrid cultivars and population cultivars of winter wheat. Arrangement of weather conditions had a significant impact on most of the studied parameters, including the quantity and quality of winter wheat yield. Grain yield was higher where technology A2 was applied, as compared to technology A1. Hybrid cv. Hybery had the highest yield-forming potential, while population cv. Belissa and hybrid cv. Hyfi - the lowest. The cultivation of wheat via technology A2 was conducive to obtaining more favourable chlorophyll content in the flag leaf and better grain technological parameters (protein and gluten content and bulk density).

The study was conducted in 2008-2009 at the Agricultural Experimental Station in Lipnik near Stargard, on sandy soil. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of sub-crown irrigation on the yield leaves photosynthesis and transpiration capacity, as well as CO2 concentration in the stomatal cells, and leaf greenness index of early ‚Geneva Early’ cv. and late ‚Rubinola’ cv. apple cultivars. Irrigation was applied in the form of the sub-crown system, in which water is distributed through a mini-sprayers of Hadar type when water potential of soil fell below - 0.01 MPa. The experiment was established in a randomized sub-block pattern (split-plot) in 10 replicates. The study was conducted using the four-year-old trees. The trees were planted at 4×2 m spacing; one hectare was planted with 1250 trees. Turf was maintained between the trees, while herbicide fallow was applied in rows. Plant material for laboratory tests was collected each year in three dates: fruit setting (date 1), harvest (date 2) and one month after the harvest (date 3). Studies have shown that leaves of the irrigated apple trees were lower content of assimilation pigments in leaves than non-irrigated ones. Leaves of late ‘Rubinola’ cv. showed higher photosynthetic activity and pigments content than early ‘Geneva Early’ cv. Pigment content was the highest at the second date of measurements. Better yielding late variety ‚Rubinola’ characterized by a greater intensity of transpiration, stomatal conductance and CO2 concentration leaves than the early va riety ‚Geneva Early’. The applied irrigation significantly increased the fruit yield and also increased the fruits weight of both varieties. Among the varieties of apple trees higher yield and fruit mass was found in the late variety ‚Rubinola’. This treatment and the earliness of varieties had no significant effect on the content of other macro- and micronutrients.

Towards the end of June of 1997 a massive outbreak of blue mold caused by Peronospora tabacina on the experiment plots of the Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation gave an opportunity to observe and record the response to that disease of 192 different N. tabacum genotypes held at the institute’s tobacco germplasm collection. Both the date of the onset of the first symptoms and the intensity of the symptoms varied. Symptoms were from very severe (e. g. Virgin Mutant A, Burley White) to severe, moderate, mild and none. Less than 10% of the accessions scored for blue mold were symptom-free. They belonged to the flue-cured type (15 out of 71) and dark air-cured (5 out of 49). All the remaining entries including orientals and semi-orientals, burleys and cigar tobaccos were affected to some extent. Except the very susceptible Virgin A Mutant systemic symptoms were rare probably because the fungus attacked relatively late in the season when the majority of accessions had already grown out of the most vulnerable stage and were at either budding or flowering.

Mokara is one of the widely cultivated orchid in the Pacific region, especially in the tropics. In this study we evaluated the longevity of inflorescences and flowers 10 Mokara cultivars: ‘Bloonlong’, ‘Calipso’, Chak Kuan’, ‘Chorcharood’, ‘Jenistar’, ‘Kitti’, ‘Pranee’, ‘Robin’, ‘Tammy’ and ‘Tangerine’. Cultivar ‘Kitti’ inflorescences were characterized by excellent vase life for more than three weeks. The highest longevity had the flowers of ‘Bloonlong’, ’Kitti’ and ‘Robin’. Spraying flowers of Mokara orchids with the OASIS® Clear Life preparation increased their quality depending on the cultivar.

Studies were carried out over the years 2008-2010 to determine the effect of Soil Conditioner UGmax on unit performance, that is potato tuber weight and number per one plant and average weight of one tuber. An experiment included two factors: I – two edible potato cultivars (Satina and Tajfun), II – five UGmax application methods (1. control without UGmax, 2. UGmax applied prior to tuber planting at the rate of 1.0 dm3 ha-1 , 3. UGmax applied prior to tuber planting at the rate of 0.5 dm3 ha-1 followed by two foliar applications at the rate of 0.25 dm3 ha-1, 4. UGmax applied prior to tuber planting at the rate of 1,0 dm3 ha-1 followed by two foliar applications at the rate of 0.5 dm3 ha-1, 5. two foliar applications of UGmax at the rate of 0.5 dm3 ha-1). Samples, consisting of tubers of 10 potato plants, were taken to determine the performance of one plant. The Soil Fertilise UGmax increased the weight of tubers per plant and the average weight of one tuber compared with the control. Moreover, the potato cultivars and weather conditions during the growing season significantly influenced the above-mentioned parameters.

Seeds collected from 10 genotypes of Pisum sativum of both foliage type, inoculated in field by Mycosphaerella pinodes and Phoma pinodella, were evaluated for incidence of fungi responsible for ascochyta blight. Also seed germination and contamination by other fungi were considered. Surface sterilized seeds were plated on Coon agar medium. A sample contains 50 seeds. Data were taken after 8 days of incubation. Frequency of species occurrence depended not only on characters of genotypes, weather conditions during 1998-2001, but on inoculation treatment. Clear response between genotypes to tested factors was noted. Seeds of normal leaved line 344/87/3 and cv. Rubin were the most inhabited by all fungi, and germinated very poorly. Seeds of eight genotypes, including cvs: Kwestor, Agra, Miko, were less infected and better germinated...
