Opis:
A novel technology for the simultaneous and independent measurement of dual parameters is proposed and experimented. By using a single fiber Bragg grating half-pasted by 1C-LV epoxy under different curing conditions, the sensor structure is designed such that the reflective single-peak spectrum splits into a twin-peak spectrum, which makes the FBG spectrum form a natural spectral peak splitting bias. A measurement limitation exists in the FBG sensor packaging at room temperature, which can be solved by the high-temperature cured packaging method. To verify the validity of the theory and methodology, the experimental system is used. In the range from –1000 to +1000 με and from 35 to 75°C, the Bragg wavelength change is relative linear to the strain and temperature. The temperature and strain variations can be independently and simultaneously measured using the split peak, and the deviations of the FBG sensor are ±1°C and ±5 με, respectively. This single FBG sensor can realize dual-parameter measurement, which is valuable for narrow-space health monitoring.

Opis:
paper addresses the issue of determining metrological parameters of MEMS accelerometers in an experimental way. Methodology of performing such studies as well as the related test rig are presented by the author in [1]. Short discussion on similar works carried out by others, reported e.g. in [2-4], [8-10], [14-15], is included. Much attention is paid to the problem of aligning the accelerometer in the test rig. The obtained results proved that misalignment is a factor affecting the sensor accuracy most significantly. That can be clearly observed by comparing the courses in Figs. 2 and 3, where the misalignment almost directly increased the error of sensor indications. Such errors as cross-axis (or transverse) sensitivity, perpendicularity of the sensitive axes and hysteresis are briefly addressed in Sections 4-6. Yet even though magnitudes of these errors are not significant in the case of dual-axis accelerometers that have been tested, it may turn out that it is not so in the case of triaxial accelerometers . It is shown that owing to compensation of systematic errors (such as the cross-axis sensitivity or misalignment) or even elimination of various kinds of errors (e.g. misalignment, errors resulting from the accepted way of calibration) an improvement in sensor performance may be achieved. At the end, some parameters as estimators of the accuracy of MEMS accelerometers are proposed.

Opis:
In vitro antileukemic activity of five glucocorticoids and their cross-resistance pattern in childhood acute lymphoblastic and non-lymphoblastic leukemia were determined by means of the MTT assay in 25 leukemia cell samples of childhood acute leukemias. The equivalent antileukemic concentrations of the drugs tested were: 34 μM hydrocortisone (HC), 8 μM prednisolone (PRE), 1.5 μM methylprednisolone (MPR), 0.44 μM dexamethasone (DX) and 0.22 μM betamethasone (BET). In comparison with initial ALL cell samples, the relapsed ALL group was more resistant to PRE (38-fold, p = 0.044), DX (> 34-fold, p = 0.04), MPR (38-fold), BET (45-fold) and HC (33-fold). The AML cell samples were even more resistant to: PRE (>85-fold, p=0.001), DX (> 34-fold, p = 0.004), MPR (> 69-fold, p = 0.036), BET (> 69-fold, p = 0.038) and HC (54-fold, p = 0.059) when compared with ALL on initial diagnosis. A significant cross-resistance among all the glucocorticoids used was found. Only in some individual cases the cross-resistance was less pronounced.

Opis:
Immunochemical diagnostics of Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. sepedonicus (Spieckerman and Kotthoff) Davis et al., the causal agent of bacterial ring rot of potato, is based on the use of high quality polyclonal and monoclonal antibodies. The specificity and sensitivity of the polyclonal Po-Cs 6 and monoclonal Mn-Cs 1 antibodies for detection and identification of C. m. subsp. sepedonicus in pure culture and extracts of potato tuber samples were compared by double antibody sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (DAS ELISA). The polyclonal antibody Po-Cs 6 cross-reacted with strains of several Clavibacter michiganensis subspecies, Pantoea agglomerans, and weakly with Pseudomonas fluorescens and Ralstonia solanacearum (race 3)in all serological tests. After cross-absorption with these bacteria, the threshold level of homologous antigen NCPPB 3467 was 10H7 cfu/ml in DAS ELISA. The monoclonal antibody Mn-Cs 1 did not cross react with other michiganensis subspecies or with other plant pathogenic bacteria tested. The monoclonal antibody Mn-Cs 1 cross-reacted very weakly with the saprophytic bacteria P. agglomerans and P. fluorescens. The threshold level of homologous antigen NCPPB 3467 was 104 cfu/ml in DAS ELISA. The monoclonal antibody Mn-Cs 1 proved to be more sensitive and specific than the polyclonal antibody Po-Cs 6 in all serological tests.

Opis:
The main purpose of this article is to extend evaluation of classic Fama-French and Carhart model for global equity indices. We intend to check the robustness of models results when used for a wide set of equity indices instead of single stocks for the given country. Such modification enables us to estimate equity risk premium for a single country. However, it requires several amendments to the proposed methodology for single stocks. Our empirical evidence reveals important differences between the conventional models estimated on single stocks, either international or US-only, and models incorporating whole markets. Our novel approach shows that the divergence between indices of the developed countries and those of emerging markets is still persistent. Additionally, research on weekly data for equity indices presents rationale for explanation of equity risk premia differences between variously sorted portfolios.
