The article depicts the history of the White Cross. It was made in 1981 on the occasion of the outdoor Mass, organised by the Independent Self-Governing Trade Union (Polish: NSZZ) “Solidarity”. Later the Cross was moved to the vicinity of the [Gorzów] Cathedral. In 1982 when the Union was suspended and then disbanded under martial law by the Communist authorities the place around the Cross became the meeting point for Solidarity activists. On August 31, 1982, the White Cross was the place where five to ten thousand people gathered to start the most numerous rally in the history of Gorzów. In March 1983 under pressure from the authorities the diocese decided to move the Cross again, that time to Żeromski Street, where a new church was being built. There the White Cross was again unveiled in 1986, and a year later a commemorative plaque was added. In the years that followed replicas and miniatures of the White Cross appeared in various places in Gorzów; thus, the White Cross has become one of the symbols of the town and an element of its identity.
Artykuł opisuje losy Białego Krzyża. Został on wykonany w roku 1981 z okazji mszy polowej, którą zorganizowali związkowcy z NSZZ „Solidarność”. Następnie przeniesiono go pod katedrę. W roku 1982 stał się miejscem spotkań działaczy „Solidarności”, która w okresie stanu wojennego była zawieszona a następnie zlikwidowana przez władze komunistyczne. 31 sierpnia 1982 r. pod Białym Krzyżem rozpoczęła się największa manifestacja w historii Gorzowa Wielkopolskiego. Uczestniczyło w niej 5-10 tys. mieszkańców miasta. Na skutek nacisku władz kierownictwo diecezji w marcu 1983 r.zdecydowało o przeniesieniu Białego Krzyża na ul. Żeromskiego, gdzie budowano nowy kościół. Tu Biały Krzyż ponownie odsłonięto w roku 1986, a rok później umieszczono koło niego tablicę pamiątkową. W kolejnych latach repliki i miniatury Białego Krzyża ustawiono w różnych miejscach miasta. Stał się w ten sposób jednym z symboli miasta i jego tożsamości.

The development of cross-border cooperation in the European Union requires the refinement of organisational and legal instruments which support the cooperation of the local and regional authorities in neighbouring border regions. One such instrument may be the Cross-Border Functional Area (CFA). The authors of the article were in charge of the implementation of a pioneering project commissioned by Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (European Commission) to establish the first CFA in Europe in the Polish-Lithuanian border region. It was formed by nine cities and communes (Pol. gmina) from Sejny and Suwałki counties and three Lithuanian local authorities: Lazdijai, Vilkaviškis and Kalvarija. The main objective of the article is to identify the qualities of a CFA as an organisational and legal instrument supporting the development of cross-border cooperation. An additional objective is to identify the key organisational and legal determinants of the development of the CFA in the Polish-Lithuanian border region. The article has a scientific and research character. It characterises CFAs in relation to other forms of institutional cross-border cooperation, discusses the legal basis for the establishment of a CFA, presents the organisational structure and identifies the key stakeholders. The lack of a legal definition of a CFA makes its use difficult, but not impossible. The importance of functional connections in cross-border cooperation in the EU is sufficiently significant to warrant further research on the institutionalisation of cooperation within cross-border functional areas.
Rozwój współpracy transgranicznej w Unii Europejskiej wymaga doskonalenia instrumentów organizacyjno-prawnych wspierających współpracę władz lokalnych i regionalnych sąsiadujących obszarów przygranicznych. Jednym z takich instrumentów może być Transgraniczny Obszar Funkcjonalny (TOF). Autorzy artykułu byli realizatorami pionierskiego projektu zleconego przez Komisję Europejską, którego celem było powołanie na pograniczu polsko-litewskim pierwszego w Europie TOF. Obszar ten obejmował dziewięć miast i gmin z powiatów sejneńskiego i suwalskiego w Polsce oraz trzy samorządy litewskie: Łoździeje (lit. Lazdijai), Wyłkowyszki (lit. Vilkaviškis) i Kalwarię (lit. Kalvarija). Celem głównym artykułu jest identyfikacja atrybutów TOF jako instrumentu organizacyjno-prawnego wspierającego rozwój współpracy transgranicznej. Celem dodatkowym jest wskazanie i omówienie kluczowych determinant organizacyjno-prawnych rozwoju TOF na pograniczu polsko-litewskim. Artykuł ma charakter naukowo-badawczy. Scharakteryzowano w nim TOF na tle innych instytucjonalnych form współpracy transgranicznej, omówiono podstawy prawne utworzenia TOF, przedstawiono strukturę organizacyjną i zidentyfikowano kluczowych interesariuszy. Brak definicji prawnej TOF utrudnia, ale nie uniemożliwia stosowania tego instrumentu we współpracy transgranicznej. Znaczenie powiązań funkcjonalnych w relacjach transgranicznych w Unii jest na tyle istotne, że wskazana jest realizacja dalszych badań dotyczących instytucjonalizacji współpracy w ramach transgranicznych obszarów funkcjonalnych.

Research background: Cross-national sanctions are external factors with high uncertainty. The current situation of green innovation is not optimistic and the future of the uncertain development is worth exploring. Purpose of the article: This study intends to investigate how cross-national sanctions affect green innovations by examining data from 130 countries from 1990 to 2020. We use six different forms of sanctions (including those from the U.S., EU, UN, as well as unilateral, plurilateral, and economic sanctions) as the primary explanatory variables, with environmental management innovations serving as a proxy for green innovations. Methods: Difference-in-Difference (DID) technique; Logit model. Findings & value added: The number of environmental management inventions produced by a nation's inventors is negatively affected by plurilateral and economic sanctions, as well as by the US and the EU sanctions, while other types of sanctions have weaker effects. In terms of sub-indicators, plurilateral and the US sanctions have a serious negative impact on air pollution control and water pollution control inventions, while plurilateral, The EU and economic sanctions have a negative impact on waste management innovations. However, unilateral and the UN sanctions have no apparent effect on any type of environmental technology. Further logit model tests show that the US and economic sanctions lead to a decrease in green innovations. Moreover, the difference between Asian and African countries is that the negative effects of plurilateral, the U.S., the EU, and economic sanctions are more obvious in African countries, while cross-national sanctions have no significant impact on Asian countries. The results of our study should help countries under sanctions to respond more effectively to environmental progress.

Artykuł przybliża mniej znany aspekt życia hrabiny Marii Tarnowskiej, jakim była podejmowana przez nią w dwudziestoleciu międzywojennym działalność dobroczynna w ramach Polskiego Czerwonego Krzyża. W swojej aktywności stawiała przede wszystkim na rozwój pielęgniarstwa. Ponadto popularyzowała idee szeroko pojętego humanitaryzmu, wspierała rozwój opieki medycznej, zachęcała ludność wiejską do dbałości o zdrowie i higienę. W niniejszym artykule wydane drukiem wspomnienia hrabiny Marii Tarnowskiej zostały skonfrontowane z relacjami pielęgniarek PCK i współpracowniczek hrabiny. Są to głównie materiały źródłowe pozyskane w czasie kwerendy w Archiwum Biura Zarządu Głównego PCK. Skorzystano także z materiałów przechowywanych w Archiwum Międzynarodowego Komitetu Czerwonego Krzyża w Genewie oraz z dostępnych opracowań.
The article takes a closer look at a lesser-known aspect of Countess Maria Tarnowska’s life, which was her philanthropic activity within the Polish Red Cross in the inter-war period. In her activities, she focused primarily on the development of nursing. In addition, she popularised the ideas of broad humanitarianism, supported the development of medical care and encouraged the rural population to take care of their health and hygiene. In this article, the printed memoirs of Countess Maria Tarnowska have been confronted with the accounts of the PCK nurses and the Countess’s associates; these are mainly source materials obtained during a search in the Archives of the Office of the Main Board of the PCK. Materials available in the Archives of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Geneva and available studies were also used.

Research background: Bank credit access plays a determining role in enterprises’ financial growth, competitiveness, and internationalization. However, most entrepreneurs are afraid of being rejected from their credit applications due to financial disadvantages that reduce their probability of receiving credits. To minimize credit access concerns, their entrepreneurial behaviors that are included in the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), such as personal attitude (PA), perceived behavioral control (PBC), and subjective norm (SN), might be a good solution. However, depending on cultural differences, their attitudes regarding these factors might change, which also causes changes in firms’ probability of receiving credit. Purpose of the article: This research aims to examine whether the impact of PA, PBC, and SN on credit access of enterprises differ depending on the countries where they do their business. Methods: The researchers investigate 1367 enterprises from different countries. These firms are selected using a purposive sampling method, and then an online questionnaire is sent to the survey respondents. Binary Logistic Regression analyses are performed for analysis purposes. Findings & value added: The results indicate that while the impact of PA on bank credit access does not differ depending on the countries where firms are located, international differences exist in the impacts of PBC and SN on the credit access of enterprises. This paper finds international differences in the impact of RBV’s intangible assets (PA, PBC, SN) on a tangible asset of RBV (financial capability) and explains these results with the factors (economic, political, legal systems) included in Institution-based View, and brings all components of both theories RBV and Institution-based View in a unique research. Financial and educational support from governments and universities for fresh graduate individuals can stimulate entrepreneurial attitudes and financing abilities of prospective entrepreneurs to overcome credit access obstacles.

Nowadays, the development of local communities is hindered by crises, external shocks, and disturbance. Under such circumstances, an important characteristic is their resilience, i.e. the ability to withstand negative external influences and ensure further growth. Border communities are particularly sensitive to external stresses stemming from geopolitical and economic changes. The article aims to identify key determinants and indicators of territorial community resilience in the EU-Ukraine cross-border area. The methodological foundations of the research comprise the main provision of economic theory, regional development, and spatial economy theory, etc. The methods of comparative, economic, and statistical analysis are used in the study of various dimensions of community resilience. The main results of the study of the peculiarities of socioeconomic development of Ukraine’s border communities and existing opportunities for the use of instruments of cross-border cooperation derive from a sociological survey based on the expert opinion method.

Positioning Theory represents a useful approach for studying cultural conceptualizations and patterns of language use. The notion could also be implemented in cross-cultural research, for example in contrastive discourse studies. Nevertheless, cross-cultural studies of positioning are rare. The aim of this paper is to elaborate foundations for further methodological considerations and practical applications of the Positioning Theory in contrastive discourse studies. It gives theoretical considerations, reflects existing literature where the notion is implemented in discourse studies and presents examples from a pilot study conducted to analyse the cross-cultural potential of positioning. By doing so, it identifies the possibilities and methodological challenges of the notion that arise when it is implemented in contrastive discourse analysis, beyond its initial role in Interaction Analysis. The implementation of Positioning Theory in contrastive discourse studies seems useful to shed light on specific cultural positions as well as formal and functional patterns of discursive positioning practices and resources. A contrastive discourse analysis that aims at cross-culturally comparing positioning activities requires extensive reflections on the analytical and methodological as well as theoretical levels. A requirement for the design of such studies is the use of operationalizable categories as analysed objects. Further challenges emerge regarding implicit positioning and the need to include cultural knowledge.
Die Positionierungsforschung stellt einen nützlichen Ansatz für die Untersuchung kultureller Konzeptualisierungen und Sprachgebrauchsmuster dar, der sich auch für kulturvergleichende Studien anbieten würde. Positionierung kann sich etwa für die kontrastive Analyse von Diskursen nützlich erweisen. Trotzdem erscheinen kontrastive Untersuchungen von Positionierungsaktivitäten selten. Ziel dieses Beitrags ist es, Grundlagen für weitere Überlegungen und praktische Anwendungen des Positionierungsansatzes in der kontrastiven Diskurslinguistik herauszuarbeiten. Dabei geht es darum, Möglichkeiten und Herausforderungen des ursprünglich gesprächs- und interaktionsanalytischen Positionierungsansatzes für seine Anwendung in kontrastiven Diskursanalysen sichtbar zu machen. Zu diesem Zweck werden theoretische Überlegungen und eine Auswertung diskurslinguistischer Arbeiten, die sich der Positionierungstheorie bedienen, vorgenommen. Zugleich werden Beispiele für die kontrastive Anwendung des Ansatzes gegeben, die aus einer Pilotstudie zum kulturvergleichenden Potenzial von Positionierungsforschung kommen. Die Implementierung des Positionierungsansatzes in die kontrastive Diskurslinguistik erscheint nützlich, um spezifische kulturelle Diskurspositionenals auch formale und funktionale Besonderheiten sprachlicher Positionierungspraktiken und -ressourcen zu beleuchten. Eine kontrastive diskurslinguistische Analyse, die auf den Vergleich von Positionierungsaktivitäten abzielt, verlangt einer vertieften Reflexion auf der analytisch-methodischen und auf der erkenntnistheoretischen Ebene. In diesem Zusammenhang ist es eine Anforderung für die Ausgestaltung einer kontrastiven diskurslinguistischen Positionierungsuntersuchung, operationalisierbare Kategorien als den Untersuchungsgegenstand zu bestimmen. Weitere Herausforderungen zeigen sich in Hinsicht auf implizite Positionierungen und die Notwendigkeit, kulturelles Wissen miteinzubeziehen.

The crime of human trafficking, presented in this article, poses a huge threat to public safety and order. Although it has been present in social relations for hundreds of thousands of years, due to the growing and widespread globalization, the development of new technologies and the cooperation of people living in the farthest corners of the world, the crime not only continues to function, but also takes on new forms. Therefore, it is important to have an ongoing response from the legislature and preventive actions by state bodies. In addition, the crime of human trafficking takes its toll on society as a whole, so it is important to collect and secure evidence and identify the perpetrators. In connection with the above, an analysis was made of the use of one of the ways of implementing the executive function of forensic science, namely the rule of seven golden questions.

Opis:
Dzieje Brygady Świętokrzyskiej Narodowych Sił Zbrojnych (BŚ NSZ), największej jednostki partyzanckiej narodowo-radykalnego nurtu podziemia, który nie podporządkował się Armii Krajowej, doczekały się już licznych publikacji. Niezależnie od płynących z poszczególnych prac wniosków na temat działalności zgrupowania, ich cechą wspólną było bazowanie na źródłach proweniencji polskiej. Podstawowym założeniem artykułu jest konfrontacja dotychczasowych ustaleń z wytwarzaną na bieżąco, a przez lata pomijaną przez badaczy zagadnienia, dokumentacją niemiecką, noszącą ślady funkcjonowania BŚ NSZ na terytorium Generalnego Gubernatorstwa. Materiały te, na które składają się głównie meldunki i raporty różnych struktur Wehrmachtu, kwestionują wiele wprowadzonych do obiegu naukowego ustaleń dotyczących specyfiki operowania jednostki, a przede wszystkim jej dokonań bojowych.
The history of the Holly Cross Mountains Brigade of the National Armed Forces (Brygada Świętokrzyska Narodowych Sił Zbrojnych, BŚ NSZ), the largest partisan unit of the national-radical underground which did not subordinate itself to the Home Army (Armia Krajowa), has already been the subject of numerous publications. Irrespective of the conclusions on the unit’s activities that flow from the various works, their common feature was that they were based on documents and accounts of Polish provenance. The main objective of this article is to confront the findings to date with German documentation relating to the activities of the BŚ NSZ in the territory of the General Government, which was produced on an upto-date basis and over the years has been unused by researchers of the issue. These materials, which consist mainly of reports from various Wehrmacht structures, question a number of findings introduced into scholarly circulation regarding the specifics of the unit’s operations and, above all, its combat achievements.
Die Geschichte der Heiligkreuz-Brigade der Nationalen Streitkräfte (Brygada Świętokrzyska Narodowych Sił Zbrojnych, BŚ NSZ), der größten Partisaneneinheit der nationalradikalen Untergrundströmung, die sich nicht der Heimatarmee (Armia Krajowa) unterstellte, wurde bereits in zahlreichen Publikationen behandelt. Unabhängig davon, welche Schlüsse aus den einzelnen Werken über die Tätigkeit der Gruppierung gezogen werden können, ist ihnen gemeinsam, dass sie auf Quellen polnischer Provenienz beruhen. Die Grundannahme dieses Aufsatzes ist die Konfrontation der Ergebnisse mit der fortlaufend produzierten und von der Forschung seit Jahren vernachlässigten deutschen Dokumentation, die Spuren der Tätigkeit der BŚ NSZ auf dem Gebiet des Generalgouvernements trägt. Diese Materialien, die hauptsächlich aus Berichten und Meldungen verschiedener Wehrmachtsstrukturen bestehen, stellen eine Reihe von in die Wissenschaft eingeführten Erkenntnissen über die Besonderheiten der Operationen der Einheit und vor allem über ihre Kampferfolge in Frage.

Na podstawie analizy niektórych aspektów tajemnicy Chrystusa zawartej przez Doktora Serafickiego w dziele „Vitis mystica” da się określić profil chrystologicznego dyskursu. Jest on wyraźnie mistagogiczno-mistyczny, ujawniający typowo doświadczalną, a zatem afektywną formułę. Boskie rzeczywistości, takie jak: wcielenie, męka, krzyż czy Najświętsze Serce Jezusa, stanowią dla Bonawentury swoiste „więzienia” miłości, są przede wszystkim otwartymi przestrzeniami, przez które Bóg nie tyle pozwala się poznać, ile bardziej spotkać. Zgodnie z jego praktycznym sposobem rozumienia całej teologii, Jezus Chrystus jako Verbum Incarnatum et Crucifixum jest i powinien być centrum duchowego życia człowieka.
Based on the analysis of some aspects of the mystery of Christ contained by the Seraphic Doctor in the work of “Vitis Mystica”, it is possible to determine the profile of the Christological discourse. It is clearly mystagogical and mystical, revealing a typically experiential, and therefore affective formula. Divine realities, such as: the incarnation, the passion, the cross or the Sacred Heart of Jesus, are for Bonaventure a kind of „prisons” of love, they are above all open spaces through which God does not let himself be known, but rather met. According to his practical way of understanding all theology, Jesus Christ as Verbum Incarnatum et Crucifixum is and should be the center of man’s spiritual life.

The authors, referring to the article Words That Come Back by Bogdan Walczak from 1998, present the history of the word karawaka in Polish. It is the name of the cross with two horizontal beams protecting against various disasters, especially against epidemics. Originally, it was a reliquary from the 4th century AD with a piece of the Holy Cross Tree, brought in the 13th century during the Crusades from Jerusalem to the Spanish city of Caravaca (from which its name comes). The custom of erecting such crosses and wearing these types of small crosses disappeared in the 20th century, and returned with the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic. The lexeme karawaka was recorded for the first time in Samuel Bogumił Linde’s Polish Language Dictionary, and in the Polish Language Dictionary edited by Witold Doroszewski it already had the status of historicism. This word and its synonyms (krzyż karawaka, krzyż choleryczny, krzyż epidemiczny, krzyż morowy, krzyż epidemiczny, krzyż choleryczny, krzyż karawaka) returned to Polish in 2020, and the lexical novelty during the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic is krzyż pandemiczny.

Opis:
Cross wedge rolling (CWR) is used for producing stepped axles and shafts as well as die forging preforms. In current industrial practice, CWR conducted with two tools is predominantly used, with the wedges mounted on rolls or flat tool plates. However, CWR can also be performed with the use of three wedge rolls. This paper begins with a review of previous studies on CWR conducted with the use of three rolls. After that, numerical simulations of two- and three-roll CWR processes for the same shaft are described. Obtained numerical results are then used to compare the two processes in terms of material flow kinematics, material temperature, stresses and strains, failure modes, as well as load and energy parameters. Finally, the Conclusions section presents the advantages of three-roll cross wedge rolling, providing a good starting point for further research on this promising forming method.
