    Artykuł jest szkicem odpowiedzi na pytanie, czy współczesne społeczeństwo chińskie oraz Komunistyczna Partia Chin jako jego część są marksistowskie, czy chociażby w minimalistycznym sensie dążą do realizacji idei marksistowskich. Badanym aspektem jest konsumpcjonizm w Chinach początku XXI wieku w jego relacji do etycznej zasady maksymalizacji wolności, implicite obecnej również w marksizmie. Autor argumentuje, że ani społeczeństwo chińskie, ani partia nie są marksistowskie, ponieważ ich ideologia i działania są sprzeczne z marksizmem. Zamiast bowiem dążyć do wyzwolenia klasy pracowniczej i osłabienia burżuazji w walce klas, przez konsumpcjonizm zmierzają do celu przeciwnego.
    The article is an outline of an aspect answer to the question if the contemporary Chinese society and the Communist Party of China are Marxist, at least in the minimalist sense of striving to realise Marxist ideas. The aspect of research is consumerism in China in the 21st century in relation to the principle of maximising freedom which is implicitly present in Marxism. The author argues that neither Chinese society nor the Communist Party of China are Marxist because its ideology and activities stand in contradiction with Marxism: instead aiming at liberation of the working class and weakening bourgeoisie, by means of consumerism they actually strive to the opposite purpose.

    Opis:
    This paper concerns ethical considerations when conducting research about the policies, procedures, practices, and culture of organizations and institutions rather than research with the humans owning, operating, employed at, volunteering for, benefiting from, or impacted by the organization. Ethical conventions for research with humans are well developed but less so for research about organizations. A pressing concern in the nascent literature is weighing protecting the public interest versus the organization’s interests when sensitive, controversial, or damning information about the latter emerges from the research. Given the absence of formally codified procedural ethics, organizational researchers are encouraged to constantly reexamine, debate, and address related ethical concerns. In that spirit, an inaugural compendium of ethical concerns and recommended strategies gleaned from the literature reviewed is shared, and a discussion of omissions from said literature is tendered to scaffold future conversations around this ethical aspect of organizational research.

    General jurisprudence is a type of thinking about law and the social bond developed by British critical legal scholars. Returning to the classical concerns of (legal) philosophy, it examines the legal aspects of social reproduction both inside and outside state law, treating posited law as a part of wider legality. It brings back to the centre the aesthetic, ethical and material aspects of legality, as well as includes the political economy of law, the legal constructions of subjectivity and the ways in which gender, race or sexuality create forms of identity both disciplining bodies and offering sites of resistance. The British Critical Legal Conference (CLC) is a school of thought committed to a plurality of theoretical approaches to law and to radical politics. The first CLC took place in 1985 and has taken place annually without interruption since. The CLC has introduced a number of themes, approaches and strategies unknown or dismissed by mainstream scholarship, including semiotics, rhetoric, literature, aesthetics and psychoanalysis. A variety of critical schools, such as postmodernism, phenomenology, postcolonialism, critical race, feminism, queer theory, art theory and history, the ethics of otherness, the ontology of plural singularity, the critique of biopolitics and post–politics have been pioneered in the CLC.

    The author reviews and briefly comments on the sixth issue of the antidisciplinary journal Stan Rzeczy (State of Affairs) which is devoted to the role of scientists and sociology as a critical science. Figures of Witold Gombrowicz and Pierre Bourdieu are used as benchmarks for texts published in the journal; they exemplify engaged sociology and sociology practiced from an academic distance.
    Autor poddaje recenzji i krótko komentuje szósty numer antydyscyplinarnego czasopisma Stan Rzeczy, który poświęcony jest roli naukowców jak i socjologii jako nauki krytycznej. Punktem odniesienia dla publikowanych w periodyku tekstów są postacie Witolda Gombrowicza i Pierre’a Bourdieu, jako egzemplifikacje socjologii zaangażowanej oraz uprawianej z akademickiego dystansu.

    Celem artykułu jest próba wypracowania teoretycznych podstaw dla ekoglottodydaktyki (w obszarze nauczania języka angielskiego), których poszukuje się we wczesnych manifestacjach ruchu środowiskowego, a także próba przedstawienia głównych założeń krytyki ekologicznej jako podstawowego punktu odniesienia praktyki edukacyjnej, która ma na celu rozwój świadomości ekologicznej uczniów w dobie kryzysu klimatycznego. W drugiej części tekstu poddano analizie treści środowiskowe w polskich podręcznikach szkolnych do nauki języka obcego (angielskiego) na wyższych poziomach zaawansowania. Decyzje autorów tych podręczników w zakresie prezentacji tematów związanych z ekologią i ze zmianą klimatu są tu badane pod kątem uwzględnienia postulatów ekokrytyki i możliwości wspierania postaw aktywistycznych oraz emancypacyjnych. Ma to służyć wskazaniu najlepszych metod i dróg realizacji krytycznej pedagogiki ekologicznej na miarę wyzwań antropocenu.
    The article is aimed at providing the theoretical background for the foreign language (ESL) environmental education, which is sought in the early manifestations of the environmental movement, as well as presenting the main assumptions of ecological criticism as a benchmark for the educational practice whose major objective is to instil environmental awareness in students at the time of the climate crisis. The second part of the paper includes an analysis of environmental contents in Polish schoolbooks used in the ESL classroom at intermediate and advanced levels. The authors’ decisions regarding the presentation of ecological topics and climate change issues are then investigated in terms of its compliance with ecocritical claims and its support of activist and emancipatory attitudes. The analysis seeks to indicate the best methods and ways of pursuing critical environmental pedagogy which would be able to rise to the challenges of the Anthropocene.

    This paper shows how persecution is a condition that binds each in an ethical obligation. Persecution is functionally defined here as an impinging, affective relation, one that is neither mediated by reason nor open to apology. The works of Sigmund Freud help illuminate the psychological mechanism responsible for impeding rational transparency in delusions of persecution and super-egoical moral demands. Similar to Freud who employs what Paul Ricœur has called a “hermeneutics of suspicion” to interrogate the status of a fully knowing subject, I contend that Emmanuel Lévinas’s work on the ethical subject is useful for developing a “hermeneutics of trust” in an ambivalent ontological condition that is unavoidably ethical. By thinking Freud and Lévinas together, I show how the commitment to total mastery of an unknowable ego leads to a persecutory relation, yielding moralities that are unconcerned with injuring the other in the name of that which is judged as good. In answer to this ethical dilemma, I propose that a turn toward relational ethics and an intentionality of search offers traces of a morality where differences are preserved and thus prevent the persecution of the other for one’s own moral fulfillment.

    Opis:
    The paper aims at reconstruction and critical discussion with the main tenets of political theory of adjudication, as presented by Rafał Mańko in his book, W stronę krytycznej filozofii orzekania. Polityczność, etyka, legitymizacja [Towards a Critical Philosophy of Adjudication. The Political, Ethics, Legitimacy]. In the paper, I demonstrate: that the interpretation of the concept crucial for the entire theory – which is the concept of political – has been chosen by Mańko in an ideological and a priori manner; that the choice above effectively prevents the realisation of the main objective of the book, which is to legitimise adjudication; that the adoption of the ethics of adjudication advocated in the book is – in the light of the basic assumptions of that very publication – both improbable and hardly acceptable. Finally, I claim that Mańko’s theory, due to its totality, can distinguish neither between legitimate law and violence, nor between justified and unjustified adjudication. As a result, it loses its critical force. All these problems are not peculiar to Mańko’s theory, but they are general weaknesses of various versions of critical jurisprudence.
    Tekst ma na celu rekonstrukcję i krytyczną polemikę z głównymi założeniami politycznej teorii orzekania, przedstawionej w pracy Rafała Mańki W stronę krytycznej filozofii orzekania. Polityczność, etyka, legitymizacja. Wykazuję kolejno, że: interpretacja kluczowego dla całej pracy pojęcia, jakim jest pojęcie polityczności, zostaje wybrana przez Mańkę w sposób ideologiczny i aprioryczny; wybór ten uniemożliwia realizację głównego celu książki, czyli legitymizację orzekania; realizacja proponowanej przez autora etyki orzekania jest (w świetle jego własnych założeń) zarówno mało prawdopodobna, jak i niezbyt pożądana. Wreszcie, z racji na totalny charakter krytyki, teoria ta nie jest zdolna odróżnić legitymowanego prawa od przemocy, a orzeczenia uzasadnionego od nieuzasadnionego. W konsekwencji, traci ona swoje krytyczne ostrze. Jak wskazuję, nie są to przypadłości wyjątkowe dla omawianej koncepcji, ale bardziej powszechne słabości różnych wariantów krytycznej teorii prawa.

    Opis:
    Intentional mutuality and intersubjective dialogue woven into the pedagogy of youth and adults is a radical idea in any educational setting; however in the case of religious education it can provide a generative, hermeneutic, learning platform for the development of Christocentric living (as one example). Through so doing, this learning platform can easily extend into the postmodern secular sphere to temper and balance its epistemic forms with hermeneutics, ethics, empathy, and social justice. Where religious education can remain free of the control of neoliberal ideology, it can help students flourish in their humanity and agency. At the same time, religious education and critical pedagogies can be further developed on the shoulders of their giants with gleanings from the secular world—practices and methods from a range of human traditions. In that spirit, the author borrows substantial elements from his previous work (Shuster 2006) on the effectiveness of dialogue and intersubjectivity in postmodern workgroups and speculates on its utility to learning groups and classrooms.
    Celowa wzajemność i międzypodmiotowy dialog, wplecione w pedagogię młodzieży i dorosłych, stanowi radykalną ideę w dziedzinie edukacji. W przypadku edukacji religijnej może to oznaczać organizację generatywnej i hermeneutycznej platformy nauczania, służącej rozwijaniu chrystocentrycznego modelu życia (jako jednego z przykładów). W ten sposób platforma ta może łatwo się rozszerzać, wkraczając na obszar ponowoczesny i świecki, łagodząc i równoważąc przy tym jego epistemiczne formy hermeneutyką, etyką, empatią i sprawiedliwością społeczną. Tam, gdzie edukacja religijna pozostaje wolna od kontroli ze strony neoliberalnej ideologii, tam może pomóc uczniom w rozwoju ich człowieczeństwa i aktywności. W tym samym czasie edukacja religijna oraz krytycznie ukierunkowane pedagogie mogą być rozwijane przez ich głównych orędowników, zbierając przy tym doświadczenia również ze świeckiego świata, tj. praktyki i metody reprezentujące rozmaite tradycje. Podążając za tym przykładem, autor przejmuje znaczące elementy ze swej wcześniejszej pracy (Shuster 2006) na temat skuteczności dialogu i międzypodmiotowości w ponowoczesnych grupach pracowniczych i zastanawia się nad ich przydatnością w grupach osób uczących się oraz podczas zajęć w klasie szkolnej.
