Opis:
Effects are described of internal exposure doses of ionizing radiation in above- and underground parts of test plants under natural conditions and in roots of Lepidium sativum L. from accumulated 137Cs under laboratory conditions. In the region most contaminated after the Chernobyl accident, in the tested 10 plant species for 137Cs ionizing radiation the internal exposure doses 3.5 times exceeded those in the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant environment. Under laboratory conditions the effect of low internal (0.6-600 mSv) and external (40-5500 mSv) exposure doses from 137Cs on garden cress, Lepidium sativum L. roots was, practically, the same. Both internal and external exposure doses stimulated the plant root growth by 12 and 33%, respectively. Different effect of external and internal exposure on the developing plant cells was observed by analyzing the results of morphometric investigations of the primary root cap cells of Lepidium sativum L.

Opis:
For several decades an increase of platinum in the environment was recorded. This is connected with the release of platinum from automobile catalytic converters and pharmaceutical industries. In the conducted experiments the effect of various forms and concentrations of platinum on the germination and roots growth of different plants (oat, garden cress and tomato) was investigated. Two separate experiments were performed with lower (experiment 1st: 1, 5 and 10 mg/L) and higher (experiment 2nd: 10, 20 and 40 mg/L) [Pt(NH3)4](NO3)2 or PtCl4 dosages. There was no significant effect of dose and form of platinum on the germination of seeds (experiment 1st and 2nd). The effect of platinum containing substances dose on root growth of young seedlings was observed during experiment, dependent on the species of tested plants. The root length of oat plants was similar in all treatments in experiment 1st. The shortest tomato roots were observed in the case of a 10 mg/L of PtCl4, it was statistically shorter than the control plants (treated with water) as well. The roots of the tomato treated with [Pt(NH3)4](NO3)2 were the same length as observed for the control sample. The garden cress root growth was not affected by [Pt(NH3)4](NO3)2, but a solution containing Pt4+ stimulated the root growth. The roots of tomato and oat treated with [Pt(NH3)4](NO3)2 had similar length as the control plants in contrast to the far shorter roots treated with PtCl4 (experiment 2nd). Moreover, the treatment with [Pt(NH3)4](NO3)2 stimulated the growth of garden cress roots compared to the control, while only the lowest dose of PtCl4 stimulated the root growth.

Opis:
The paper is composed of two parts : a review of a group of experiments among irradiated plants and own search for radiation hormesis in a single experiment. In the first part the Bayesian analysis of the hormetic-like data published so far shows that the NOAEL (no observed adverse effect level) point, above which adverse effects appear, may be located between 30 and 100 Gy. In the second part the influence of low doses of ionizing radiation was tested on the particularly fast growing plant, namely the cress (Lepidium sativum L.). Two experimental scenarios were used : in the first one the cress was irradiated during the growth (maximal dose 2.3 Gy), while in the second scenario dry seeds were irradiated (maximal dose 100 Gy). The experiment indicates that the NOAEL point lies above 100 Gy and statistically insignificant hormetic effect can be seen between 0.1 and 14 Gy. No linear reaction is observed in the full range of doses.

Opis:
In order to evaluate the relationship between traits affecting the seed yield of the garden cress, phenotypic correlations between seed yield and yield components were detected, direct and indirect effects of yield components on yield and its role in the description of diversity were estimated, and the experiment was conducted in a randomized complete block design with three replications in 2017. The ANOVA showed that the difference among accessions was significant for all traits. There was a significant phenotypic correlation between yield and most of the traits. The highest value of phenotypic correlation was obtained between seed yield and the ‘thousand seed weight’ (0.97). The regression analysis showed that the seed yield was highly influenced by the ‘thousand seed weight’, leaf height and the number of seeds per silique of the lateral branches and the main axis. These three traits constituted about 89% of changes in the total yield, while the ‘thousand seed weight’ was the most effective trait that entered the model and explained 51% of the variation. The path analysis of phenotypic correlation showed that the ‘thousand seed weight’ had the greatest direct effect on the yield (7.21). The ‘thousand seed weight’ had a positive indirect impact on other traits as well. As a result of the factor analysis, 3 independent factors explained about 79.33% of the yield variation. These factors consisted of the number of seeds per silique of the lateral branches, the number of seeds per silique of the main axis and the ‘thousand seed weight’.

Opis:
W artykule przedstawiono efekty jakie uzyskano oświetlając pieprzycę siewną dwoma rodzajami światła w zakresie 460-475nm oraz 610-630nm. Porównano uzyskane efekty z próbami kontrolnymi wystawionymi na działanie światła słonecznego. Do oświetlania roślin wykorzystano dwa rodzaje diod mocy firmy Helio: diody czerwone HSHP-E3LR o mocy 3W i widmie z zakresu 610-630 nm, diody niebieskie HSHP-E3LB o mocy 3W oraz zakresie widma 460-475nm.
The article presents results obtained by lighting garden cress with two types of light within the range of 460-475 nm and 610-630 nm. The obtained results were compared with control samples exposed to sun light. Two types of Helio diodes were used for lighting plants: red diodes HSHPE3LR of 3W power and spectrum within the range of 610-630 nm, blue diodes HSHP-E3LB of power 3W and spectrum range 460-475 nm. Controlling times of turning on and of the light and regulation of fan turnarounds took place through a PC operating along with a driver of an unsealed source Arduino UNO. Germination ability and dynamics of growth in first five days were reported. It was determined on the basis of the obtained results, that red light which was applied (460-475 nm)significantly influences germination ability and plants growth. In case of blue light, it was noticed that plant growth is similar to the one in case of a control sample lighted with sun light. Moreover, blue light caused visible damage to roots and yellowing of leaves edges.
