Opis:
The intention of this article is to evaluate the exogenous dismissal probability for a certain worker depending on her characteristics for the Polish labor market. To model this phenomenon I considered a range of count data models. In the analysis the data from the Polish General Social Survey of 2008 was used. Covariates explaining the number of unemployment spells were selected in the spirit of the human-capital theory. In the course of the study existence of intransferable firm-specific human capital across employers and depreciation of the human capital acquired through learning by doing have been empirically confirmed. The conducted analysis may be considered the first step in the calibration of a job-search model with heterogeneous agents.

Opis:
Aim/purpose – Estimation of the model of interdependent demand for health insurance and health care utilisation involves issues of stochastic dependence between health insurance and health care utilisation. This study explored a count data estimation technique to determine the most appropriate estimation method for the interdependence of health insurance and health care demand in Nigeria. Design/methodology/approach – The study employed Hidayat and Pokhrel (2010) framework to choose among the six alternatives of two classes of count data model. The data for the study were collected using a purposive sampling survey in the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria. Findings – The results showed that the general method of moments (GMM) estimator is preferable to model the determinants of medical care consumption with health insurance. Price of health care services is positively related to medical care consumption with health insurance and social health insurance. The income-medical care relationship indicated that medical care services are inferior good under private health insurance and a normal good with social health insurance during sick period. Research implications/limitations – The implication of this study is that the estimation method that accommodates endogenous regressors is the appropriate estimation technique for the interdependence of health insurance and health care utilisation. The limitation of this study is that the recall period was just six months prior to the survey. Originality/value/contribution – The study revealed that the estimation techniques for the interdependence of health insurance and health care utilisation must recognised the influence of individual and household characteristics on the decision to purchase health insurance and health care consumption. Hence, diagnostics tests are require to choose the most appropriate estimation technique.

Opis:
A new over-dispersed discrete probability model is introduced, by compounding the Poisson distribution with the weighted Ishita distribution. The statistical properties of the newly introduced distribution have been derived and discussed. Parameter estimation has been done with the application of the maximum likelihood method of estimation, followed by the Monte Carlo simulation procedure to examine the suitability of the ML estimators. In order to verify the applicability of the proposed distribution, a real-life set of data from the medical field has been analysed for modeling a count dataset representing epileptic seizure counts.

Opis:
The article presents a new probability distribution, created by compounding the Poisson distribution with the weighted exponential distribution. Important mathematical and statistical properties of the distribution have been derived and discussed. The paper describes the proposed model's parameter estimation, performed by means of the maximum likelihood method. Finally, real data sets are analyzed to verify the suitability of the proposed distribution in modeling count data sets representing vaccine adverse events and insurance claims.

Climate change caused by human activities can influence the lives of everybody on the planet. The environmental concerns must be taken into consideration by all fields of study includingICT. Green Computing aims to reduce negative effects of IT on the environment while, at the same time, maintaining all of the possible benefits it provides. Several Big Data platforms like Apache Spark or YARN have become widely used in analytics and High-Performance Computing systems due to the reliability and usability of Map Reduce implementations. The authors research the power consumption and energy efficiency of Hadoop YARN schedulers using Apache Spark under three different workloads. The test cases include: sorting large binary files, counting unique words in large text files and processing satellite imagery from the Sentinel-2mission. The presented results show small (2%–11%) but distinct differences in the power consumption of FIFO and FAIR schedulers.

Opis:
Sensitive attributes are extremely difficult to be measured directly. Recently new indirect methods of questioning, called Poisson and negative binomial item count techniques, have been proposed by [Tian et al. 2014]. This paper focuses on important problem of comparing proportions of sensitive items in two populations when using new indirect method. Proper statistical theory is introduced, including tests for equality of two sensitive proportions followed by derivation of their asymptotic power functions. Simulation studies are conducted to illustrate the problem.

Opis:
The paper makes an attempt to apply local indicators for categorical data (LICD) in the spatial analysis of economic development. The first part discusses the tests which examine spatial autocorrelation for categorical data. The second part presents a two-stage empirical study covering 66 Polish NUTS 3 regions. Firstly, we identify classes of regions presenting different economic development levels using taxonomic methods of multivariate data analysis. Secondly, we apply a join-count test to examine spatial dependencies between regions. It examines the tendency to form the spatial clusters. The global test indicates general spatial interactions between regions, while local tests give detailed results separately for each region. The global test detects spatial clustering of economically poor regions but is statistically insignificant as regards well-developed regions. Thus, the local tests are also applied. They indicate the occurrence of five spatial clusters and three outliers in Poland. There are three clusters of wealth. Their development is based on a diffusion impact of regional economic centres. The areas of eastern and north western Poland include clusters of poverty. The first one is impeded by the presense of three indiviual growth centres, while the second one is out of range of diffusion influence of bigger agglomerations.
