This paper presents a method of synthesizing copper powders by electrochemical method with the use of a rotating working electrode. The influence of the rotation speed of the working electrode, the current density, the concentration of copper ions, and the addition of ethylene glycol on the shape, size, and size distribution of the obtained powders were investigated. Properties of the synthesized powders were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray powder diffractometry (XRD). It has been shown that it is possible to obtain copper powders with a size of 1 µm by an electrochemical method using the rotary cathode, in sulphate bath with addition of ethylene glycol as a surfactant. Increasing current density causes a decrease in the average size of the obtained powder particles. The addition of 2.5% of ethylene glycol prevents the formation of dendritic powders. The change in the concentration of copper ions in the range from 0.01 to 0.15 mol/dm3 in the electrolyte did not show any significant effect on the size of obtained particles. However, higher concentrations of copper limiting the presence of dendritic-shape particles. Changing the speed of rotation of the electrode affects both the size and the shape of synthesized copper powder. For the rotational speed of the electrode of 115 rpm, the obtained powders have a size distribution in the range of 0-3 µm and an average particle size of 1 µm. The particles had a polygonal shape with an agglomeration tendency.

With the rapid development of electronic technology and military techniques, electromagnetic protection materials are becoming more and more significant to people. Harmful electromagnetic radiation not only affects the normal operation of electronic equipments and military security, but also has a serious impact on human health. At present, using absorbing and shielding materials are effective means to reduce the harm of electromagnetic waves. In this project, graphite, graphene and silver-coated copper powder coated composites were prepared using PU-2540 polyurethane and adopting a coating process for the substrate on plain polyester/cotton fabric. The controlled variable method was used to prepare and study the electromagnetic properties of single-layer coating composites with different functional particle contents. The result showed that within the frequency range of 0.01GHz~1.0GHz, when the total mass of functional particles was 48% relative to that of the polyurethane, the value of the real part of the dielectric constant of the sample remained the largest and its polarization ability was the strongest. Within the frequency range of 0.08GHz~1.0GHz, when the content of functional particles was 24% relative to that of the polyurethane, the value of the imaginary part of the dielectric constant and the loss of the tangent value of the sample kept the maximum, and the loss and attenuation ability with respect to electromagnetic waves were both the strongest. Within the frequency range of 1.3GHz~2.0GHz, when the content of functional particles was 36% relative to that of the polyurethane, the value of the reflection loss of the sample was -26.93dB, and the minimum value of the reflection loss was obtained at a frequency of 1.6GHz, at the moment of which, the absorbing property of the sample was the best.

To clarify the effect of copper powder morphology on the microstructure and properties of copper matrix bulk composites reinforced with Ni-doped graphene, spherical and dendritic copper powders were selected to fabricate the Ni-doped graphene reinforced copper matrix bulk composites. The Ni-doped graphene were synthesized by hydrothermal reduction method, followed by mixing with copper powders, and then consolidated by spark plasma sintering. It is found that the Ni-doped graphene are well bonded with the dendritic copper powder, whereas Ni-doped graphene are relatively independent on the spherical copper powder. The copper base bulk composite prepared by the dendritic copper powder has better properties than that prepared by spherical copper powder. At 0.5wt.% Ni-doped graphene, the dendritic copper base bulk composite has a good combination of hardness, electrical conductivity and yield strength, which are 81.62 HV, 87.93% IACS and 164 MPa, respectively.

This study evaluated the effect of milling speed and compaction pressure on the densification and morphology of the CuZn-Gr composite. The composite was prepared by using the powder metallurgy technique. The effect on the microstructural and compaction was determined based on different milling speeds. The different milling speeds involved were 175, 200, 225, and 250 rpm. Meanwhile, the different compaction pressures used in this study were 127, 250, 374, and 500 MPa. The properties of the milled powder gave the result to green density and densification parameters. The XRD pattern of Cu and Zn broadened as milling time increased.

Three novel and distinct agricultural waste materials, viz., Casuarinas fruit powder (CFP), sorghum stem powder (SSP) and banana stem powder (BSP) were used as low cost adsorbents for the removal of toxic copper(II) from aqueous solutions. Acid treated adsorbents were characterized by SEM, EDX and FTIR. Different factors effecting adsorption capacity were analyzed and the efficiency order was BSP>SSP>CFP. Based on the extent of compatibility to Freundlich/Langmuir/D-R/Temkin adsorption isotherm and different models (pseudo-first and second order, Boyd, Weber’s and Elovich), chemisorption primarily involved in the case of CFP and SSP, whereas, simultaneous occurrence of chemisorption and physisorption was proposed in the case of BSP. Based on the observations, it was proposed that three kinetic stages involve in adsorption process viz., diffusion of sorbate to sorbent, intra particle diffusion and then establishment of equilibrium. These adsorbents have promising role towards removal of Cu(II) from industrial wastewater to contribute environmental protection.

The present research focuses on the recycling of steel in combination with copper or aluminum alloys. To use iron scrap with a copper content in the range of 0.5 to 15%, a water atomization process was carried out, producing a rapidly solidified powder with copper of nano-order size dispersed in it. The powder was then hot rolled in the 600°C to 1000°C temperature region, where there is no liquid phase of copper, to produce a solid body. The solid bodies obtained presented a porosity of less than 1% for all the values of temperature and copper concentration, and it was established that the proposed process can be used for a wide range of concentrations of metallic impurities. The tensile strength increased with the copper content for all the temperatures, reaching stability at a copper concentration over 5%. Rapidly solidified powder was annealed and compacted at 600°C, resulting in a reduction of strength compared to non-annealed powder. The microstructure with a finely dispersed copper content seemed to have a considerable effect on the tensile strength of the compacted bodies. In the case of the use of aluminum-containing iron scrap, the results show that addition of aluminum to cast iron increased the resistance to abrasion, the high temperature oxidation characteristics, and the vibration control characteristics. When this cast iron was kept in air at temperatures ranging from 800°C to 1000°C, it was observed that the graphite on the surface was substituted by alumina.

The paper presents the results of research on the production and application of sintered copper matrix composite reinforced with titanium-copper intermetallic phases. Cu- Ti composites were fabricated by powder metallurgy. The starting materials for obtaining the sintered composites were commercial powders of copper and titanium. Experiments were carried out on specimens containing 2.5, 5, 7.5 and 10 % of titanium by weight. Finished powders mixtures containing appropriate quantities of titanium were subjected to single pressing with a hydraulic press at a compaction pressure of 620 MPa. Obtained samples were subjected to sintering process at 880°C in an atmosphere of dissociated ammonia. The sintering time was 6 hours. The introduction of titanium into copper resulted in the formation of many particles containing intermetallic phases. The obtained sinters were subjected to hardness, density and electrical conductivity measurements. Observations of the microstructure on metallographic specimens made from the sintered compacts were also performed using a optical microscope. An analysis of the chemical composition (EDS) of the obtained composites was also performed using a scanning electron microscope. Microstructural investigations by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) showed that after 6 hours of sintering at 880°C intermetallic compounds: TiCu, TiCu2, TiCu4, Ti2Cu3, Ti3Cu4 were formed. The hardness increased in comparison with a sample made of pure copper whereas density and electrical conductivity decreased. The aim of this work was to fabricate copper matrix composites reinforced with titanium particles containing copper- titanium intermetallic phases using powder metallurgy technology and determine the influence of the titanium particles on the properties of the sintered compacts and, finally, analyse the potentials application for friction materials or electric motors brushes.

This paper presents the results of preliminary tests on specimens made from mixtures of dendritic copper powder (CuE) with the graphene-coated copper powder (CuG) in a range from 20% to 100% (CuG). The properties of the powder mixtures, green compacts and sinters were determined. To study the properties of the powder mixtures, the following tests were carried out: a measurement of the CuG powder grain size after the grinding process, measurements of the bulk density and tap density of the prepared powder mixtures. The porosity of the produced green compacts and the sinters was calculated as well as the densification capabilities of the powder mixtures by die pressing, cold isostatic pressing and sintering in a reducing atmosphere were tested. Moreover, the nature of the porosity formation was analysed using an optical microscope and the Brinell hardness was determined. The measured Brinell hardness was in the range of 17 HB for sinters made from CuG to 34 HB for sinters made from a 20% CuG powder mixture. More than six hundred measurements that were made in this study show that the high CuG content in the powder mixture reduces the hardness of the sinters as well as increase their porosity.
W artykule zostały przedstawione wyniki wstępnych badań próbek wykonanych z mieszanin proszku miedzi dendrytycznej (CuE) z proszkiem miedzi pokrytym strukturą węglową zawierającą grafen (CuG) w przedziale od 20% do 100% (CuG). W ramach badań określone zostały właściwości mieszaniny proszków, wyprasek oraz spieków, składające się na opis badanego materiału. W celu zbadania właściwości mieszanin proszków zostały wykonane następujące badania: pomiar wielkości ziaren proszku CuG po procesie rozdrabniania, pomiar gęstości nasypowej oraz nasypowej z usadem przygotowanych mieszanin. Obliczono porowatość wytworzonych wyprasek, a następnie spieków oraz sprawdzono możliwości zagęszczania się otrzymanych mieszanin poprzez zastosowanie prasowania matrycowego, prasowania izostatycznego na zimno oraz spiekania w atmosferze redukującej. Dokonano również analizy powierzchni wykonanych próbek pod kątem charakteru powstałych porów za pomocą mikroskopu optycznego oraz określono twardość próbek metodą Brinella. Zmierzona twardość próbek mieści się w zakresie od 17HB dla spieków wykonanych wyłącznie z CuG do 34HB dla spieków wykonanych z mieszanki zawierającej 20% CuG. W ramach badań wykonanych zostało ponad sześćset pomiarów, których wyniki pokazują, że duża zawartość CuG w mieszaninie proszkowej zmniejsza twardość otrzymanych z niej spieków oraz zwiększa ich porowatość.

W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań modelowych pocisków do nabojów 9 × 19 mm Parabellum wykonanych ze spiekanych kompozytów Cu-W-BNα. Badania polegały na przepychaniu pocisków przez stożek przejściowy oraz cylindryczny odcinek przewodu lufy pomiarowej kalibru 9 mm. Celem tych badań było określenie wpływu zawartości fazy rozproszonej w kompozytach Cu-W-BNα na wartość siły przepychania.
Results of examination of the model bullets of 9 × 19 mm Parabellum made of copper composites with dispersed phase of tungsten and boron nitride particles are presented in this paper (W-BNα). The study consisted in pushing the bullets through forcing cone and cylindrical section of the barell of 9-mm caliber. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of W-BNα content on the force pushing value.
