Opis:
Water quality and waste management are two chief problems that the modern world is struggling with. Intensified development of the industry not only leads to the production of large amounts of solid waste that must be stored in landfills but can also result in contaminant emissions into the environment. Enormous quantities of ash produced from coal combustion have been a long-term problem of the industry. Literature studies show that fly ash can be used as a material to produce cheap and efficient zeolite-type adsorbents due to abundance of alumina-silicates in their composition. Fly ashes which were processed into zeolites as a result of alkaline hydrothermal treatment were obtained from two power plants in Poland (in Turów and Zgierz). The obtained zeolite materials and raw fly ash samples were characterised in terms of specific surface area, particle size distribution and density. The structure was also investigated using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) in the mid- infrared wavenumber range. Two raw fly ashes and two zeolite materials were examined for their ability to remove Cu(II) ions from aqueous solutions. The results showed that the amount of adsorbed copper ions by alkaline-modified fly ash was higher than for unmodified fly ash. The ion removal efficiency is high and exceeds 95%.

In the present work copper was strenghtened with 20 and 30 vol. % of alumina particles characterized by diameter of 3-6μm. The copper based composite materials were manufactured by the squeeze casting method. Preheated preforms made from Al2O3 particles were placed in the desired place in the heated cast die and the squeeze casting process with liquid copper was performed applying the infiltration pressure of 90MPa and pressure was kept for 10-15s until solidification was complete. The microstructure and physical properties: Brinell hardness (HBW) and density were characterized. Metallografic examinations showed that alumina particles were uniformly distributed in the copper matrix. Hardness of 208 HBW for composite materials containing 30 vol.% of particles was achieved. Wear investigations were performed applying the tribological pin-on-disc tester. Friction forces between copper based composite materials containing 20 and 30 vol. % of Al2O3 particles and cast iron were registered and wear was determined on the base of the specimen mass loss after 1.0, 3.5 and 8.5 km friction distance.

Opis:
The role of copper in anti-inflammatory response includes several mechanisms. Antagonism between zinc (Zn) and copper (Cu) and proper balance between the two elements in the organism may affect the course of inflammatory diseases. Copper is a component of Zn/Cu superoxide dismutase (Zn/Cu SOD) and other enzymes involved in the anti-inflammatory response of the organism. To investigate the serum copper level during inflammation and diseases, numerous researches were conducted. Copper deficiency or copper intoxication may lead to biological consequences. Copper deficiency may be caused by various factors, one of them is excessive zinc supplementation. The aim of the study was to investigate the alterations in the serum copper level after 2-week zinc oxide nanoparticles (NPs-ZnO) administration. The second aim was to investigate serum copper level alterations after 2-week NPs-ZnO and single ketoprofen administration. The inflammatory state was induced in each group by the carrageenan injection at the 15th day of the experiment. The results indicate for the decrease in serum copper level in group receiving NPs-ZnO compared to control. Moreover, in groups receiving NPs-ZnO as well as ketoprofen, a decrease in serum copper level was observed. We may conclude that NPs-ZnO administration and also ketoprofen administration acts as anti-inflammatory agents and may induce a decrease in serum copper level.

Opis:
The study was undertaken to obtain an oxide composite (inorganic colourful pigment) in the method based on the use of postgalvanic waste solution of copper(II) sulfate. The conditions of the process of precipitation of synthetic CuOźSiO 2 were optimised by checking the effect of the concentration and the volume ratio of the reagents and the temperature on the physico-chemical parameters of the final product. The oxide composite obtained in the optimum conditions was characterised by high refinement of particles and large specific surface area BET of 326 m2/g.

In this study, the synthesis of copper-based multi-walled carbon nanotube compositesis described. Over the last years, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) have been widely used in many scientific research fields and have found applications in several sectors, e.g. for water treatment. This work focuses on combining the exceptional characteristics of CNTs, such as high specific surface areaand antibacterial properties, with the antimicrobial / antivirus features of copper oxides. The influence of synthesis parameters and thermal treatment on the final product was studied. Copper leakage was evaluated at both pH 5 and pH 7, confirming the possibility of applying Cu-based MWCNT composites in water filtration systems.

To design a potent agent for positron emission tomography/magnetic resonance imaging (PET/MRI) imaging and targeted magnetic hyperthermia-radioisotope cancer therapy radiolabeled surface modified superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) were used as nanocarriers. Folic acid was conjugated for increasing selective cellular binding and internalization through receptor-mediated endocytosis. SPIONs were synthesized by the thermal decomposition of tris (acetylacetonato) iron (III) to achieve narrow and uniform nanoparticles. To increase the biocompatibility of SPIONs, they were coated with (3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APTES), and then conjugated with synthesized folic acid-polyethylene glycol (FA-PEG) through amine group of (3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane. Finally, the particles were labeled with 64Cu (t1/2 = 12.7 h) using 1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododecane-1,4,7,10-tetraacetic acid mono (N-hydroxy succinimide ester) DOTA-NHS chelator. After the characterization of SPIONs, their cellular internalization was evaluated in folate receptor (FR) overexpressing KB (established from a HeLa cell contamination) and mouse fibroblast cell (MFB) lines. Eventually, active and passive targeting effects of complex were assessed in KB tumor-bearing Balb/C mice through biodistribution studies. Synthesized bare SPIONs had low toxicity effect on healthy cells, but surface modification increased their biocompatibility. Moreover, KB cells viability was reduced when using folate conjugated SPIONs due to FR-mediated endocytosis, while having little effect on healthy cells (MFB). Moreover, this radiotracer had tolerable in vivo characteristics and tumor uptake. In the receptor blocked case, tumor uptake was decreased, indicating FR-specifi c uptake in tumor tissue while enhanced permeability and retention effect was major mechanism for tumor uptake.

Copper oxide nanoparticles have been synthesized by the chemical liquid deposition method and characterized by means of X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The XRD and SEM results showed that the particle size was between 50 nm and 70 nm. Ammonium perchlorate (AP)-CuO nanostructures have been prepared by ex-situ mixing of AP and CuO nanoparticles, while AP/CuO nanocomposites have been obtained by in-situ growth of nano CuO on the surface of AP. The effect of the nanoparticles on the thermal decomposition of AP has been examined by differential scanning calorimetery (DSC) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) methods. The results showed that the ex-situ prepared nanoparticles had better catalytic activity than the in-situ prepared ones. The effect of the synthesized nanoparticles on the thermal decomposition of AP in experiments with a AP to CuO ratio of 98:2 was as follows: with the ex-situ prepared experiments, the decomposition temperature decreased from 428 °C to 348 °C and the heat released increased from 344 J·g−1 to 1432 J·g−1, while those with the in-situ prepared samples exhibited 341 °C and 1317 J·g−1, respectively.

Praca zajmuje się termodynamiczną analizą elementarnych procesów chemicznych zachodzących podczas redukcji żużla zawierającego tlenek miedzi. Redukcja żużla zachodzi przez zastosowanie reduktora w postaci stałej - węgla, gazowej - tlenek węgla lub węgla rozpuszczonego w ciekłym żużlu. Obecna praca rozpatruje dwa procesy chemiczne: reakcję ciekłego żużla z węglem oraz z tlenkiem węgla. Korzystając z komercyjnego oprogramowania FATSage obliczono w warunkach równowagi termodynamicznej składy faz dla układów: stały węgiel – ciekły żużel - stop Cu–Fe–Pb – faza gzowa oraz gazowy CO – ciekły żużel – stop Cu–Fe–Pb – faza gazowa. Symulację prowadzono dla temperatury procesu 1500, 1600, 1700 K. Gazowe produkty reakcji redukcji i stop Cu–Fe–Pb były usuwane z układu w każdym kroku obliczeniowym. Uzyskane wyniki obliczeń wykazały, że redukcja za pomocą węgla odgrywa zasadniczą rolę w procesie odzysku miedzi.
The present work deals with thermodynamic analysis of process of the reduction of molten slag containing copper oxide. Reduction of liquid slag is possible with solid carbon, gaseous carbon oxide. and carbon dissolved in liquid slag. This work studied two chemical reactions of liquid slag containing copper oxide: with solid carbon and gaseous CO. Thermodynamic equilibrium in the system: solid carbon – liquid slag – metallic alloy Cu–Fe–Pb – gas and gaseous CO – liquid slag – metallic Cu–Fe–Pb – gas were calculated by means of FACTSage software. The simulation of the progress of reduction process at 1500, 1600, 1700K was obtained under assumption that the gaseous reduction products and metallic alloy Cu–Fe–Pb were removed from consideration after each simulation step. The calculation revealed that consumption of reducing agent is much higher in the case of CO reduction. The effect of simulation suggested, that reduction with solid carbon is the predominant mode of industrial process.

The aim of this paper is to study the properties of copper oxide thin films prepared by electrolysis method and deposited on glass substrates by drop-casting method at different annealing temperatures. Copper oxide colloidal was successfully prepared by electrolysis method. The X-ray diffraction confirms the polycrystalline structure of the films. Atomic force microscopy shows that the increase in the annealing temperature improves the surface morphology, increases the grain size and removes the cracks. The best optical transmittance was for the film annealed at 200 ºC. The bandgap decreases from 3.35 eV to 3.15 eV as a result of increasing the annealing temperature. The wide bandgap that obtained in this study is due to quantum size effect.

In this study, solar cells based on copper oxide and titanium dioxide were successfully manufactured using the reactive direct-current magnetron sputtering (DC-MS) technique with similar process parameters. TiO₂/CuO, TiO₂/Cu₂O/CuO/Cu₂O, and TiO₂/Cu₂O solar cells were manufactured via this process. Values of short-circuit current efficiencies, short-circuit current density, open-circuit voltage, and maximum power of PV devices were investigated in the range of 0.02÷0.9%, 75÷350 µA, 75÷350 µA/cm², 16÷550 mV, and 0.6÷27 µW, respectively. The authors compare solar cells reaching the best and the worst conversion efficiency results. Thus, only the two selected solar cells were fully characterized using I-V characteristics, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, ellipsometry, Hall effect measurements, and quantum efficiency. The best conversion efficiency of a solar cell presented in this work is about three times higher in comparison with the authors’ previous PV devices.

Mixed ionic and electronic conducting K2NiF4-type oxide, Nd2Ni1-xCuxO4+δ (x=0~1) powders were synthesized by solid state reaction technique and solid oxide fuel cells consisting of a Nd2Ni1-xCuxO4+δ cathode, a Ni-YSZ anode and ScSZ as an electrolyte were fabricated. The effect of copper substitution for nickel on the electrical and electrochemical properties was examined. Small amount of copper doping (x=0.2) resulted in the increased electrical conductivity and decreased polarization resistance. It appears that this phenomenon was associated with the high mean valence of nickel and copper and the resulting excess oxygen (δ). It was found that power densities of the cell with the Nd2Ni1-xCuxO4+δ (x=0.1 and 0.2) cathode were higher than that of the cell with theNd2NiO4+δ cathode.

Smar Maszynowy 2 charakteryzuje się zbyt niskimi własnościami przeciwzatarciowymi w zastosowaniu do smarowania łożysk tocznych. Cechę tę potwierdzają dane literaturowe i wyniki badań własnych wykonanych na aparacie czterokulowym. W celu zwiększenia własności przeciwzatarciowych Smaru Maszynowego 2 wprowadzono do jego objętości mieszankę tlenku miedzi i gliceryny z alkoholem etylowym. Badania miały na celu dać odpowiedź na pytanie, czy w warunkach dużych nacisków, zmiennych naprężeń i wysokich krótkotrwałych temperatur w obszarze kontaktu tlenek miedzi będzie redukowany do miedzi metalicznej, która będzie spełniała rolę smaru stałego. Badania wykonano na aparacie czterokulowym w trzech następujących po sobie seriach. Każda z nich trwała 60 sekund. Nacisk był stały i wynosił 1472 N. Po wykonaniu badań obliczono graniczne obciążenie zatarcia G0Z. Stwierdzono znaczny wzrost wskaźnika G0Z dla smarów z wymienionymi wcześniej dodatkami: G0Z dla Smaru Maszynowego 2 wynosił 529 [N/mm2], a dla innych składów dodatków wprowadzonych do smaru zawierał się w przedziale 900–1736 [N/mm2]. W celu potwierdzenia zjawiska redukcji tlenku miedzi do miedzi metalicznej wykonano badania powierzchniowe i wgłębne z użyciem spektrometrii AES. Wyniki analiz potwierdziły występowanie w warstwie powierzchniowej i warstwach głębiej zlokalizowanych miedzi metalicznej. Obecność warstewki metalicznej miedzi na ścieżce kontaktu spełniającej rolę smaru stałego skutkowała zwiększeniem odporności na zatarcie Ft trzy-, a nawet czterokrotnie w stosunku do tego samego wskaźnika dla Smaru Maszynowego 2.
The anti-seizing properties of Machine Grease 2 are too poor to ensure the proper lubrication of rolling bearings. This is confirmed by research publications and the results of the author's tests carried out using the four-ball EP tester. In order to enhance the anti-seizing properties of Machine Grease 2, a mixture of copper oxide, glycerine, and ethyl alcohol was introduced into its volume. The aim of the tests was to find out if, under high pressures, variable stresses and short-duration temperatures in the contact region cause the copper oxide to be reduced to metallic copper functioning as grease. The tests in the four-ball EP tester were carried out in three consecutive series, each lasting 60 seconds. The pressure remained constant and amounted to 1472 N. After the tests, the limit of the seizure load G0Z was calculated. Index G0Z was found to be considerably higher for lubricants containing the above additives, amounting to 529 [N/mm2] and 900–1736 [N/mm2] for Machine Grease 2 and lubricating compositions containing the mixture of copper oxide, glycerine and ethyl alcohol, respectively. Due to the presence a metallic copper film on the contact path, seizure resistance Pt increased three to even four times in comparison with this index for Machine Grease 2.

Opis:
Kinetic investigations for ozone conversion on three different series of zinc oxide catalysts, containing pure ZnO and doped with Mn or Cu one with dopant content less than 1 wt.% were carried out. The different samples were obtained from carbonate, nitrate and acetate precursors. The as prepared catalysts were characterized by AAS, XRD, IR, EPR and BET methods. The mean size of the crystallites determined by XRD data is in the range 27÷68 nm. The presence of Mn2+ and Cu2+ ions into the ZnO matrix was established by EPR. The ozone decomposition was investigated for 30÷75°C temperature range. The zinc carbonate precursor samples show highest activity, while the nitrate precursor ones show lowest activity toward reaction decomposition of ozone in the whole temperature range. At 75°C two of the catalyst, obtained from carbonate precursor - ZnO and CuZnO show 100% conversion.

Opis:
The aim of the work presented in the article was to clarify controversial comments about anti-corrosion and mechanical properties of graphene coatings, deposited on copper substrates. It was designed special experimental cycle comprising: preparation of graphene forms and copper, the observation of layers Cu / GO (rGO) after the thermal reduction processes and oxidative test in air at 150°C temperature and 350 h in time. The resulting coatings and graphene layers were subjected to tribological test for hardness. The observed differences in the continuity of the coverage copper surface by graphene forms, allowed to understand the macroscopic effect of increased hardness and wear resistance layers rGO/Cu.

Opis:
W regionie górniczym Shilu posiadającym olbrzymie zasoby rud żelaza typu BIF (Banded Iron Formation), oprócz mineralizacji tlenkami Fe (głównie hematyt), występuje lokalnie w spągu 6 poziomu stratygraficznego grupy Shilu, bogata polimetaliczna mineralizacja siarczkowa Cu–Co. W regionie górniczym Shilu występują słabo zmetamorfizowane skały wulkanoklastyczne i węglanowe zaliczane do mezo- i neoproterozoiku, w które intrudowały różnego wieku granitoidy. Przedmiotem badań mikroskopowych w świetle odbitym i w mikroskopie elektronowym CAMECA SX 100, wyposażonym w przystawkę EDS i WDS, była polimetaliczna mineralizacja kruszcowa z kopalni Beiyi i jej okolic. Mineralizacja kruszcowa, głównie pirotynowo-chalkopirytowa oraz kobaltonośny piryt (do ok. 11% wag. Co), występuje w zmienionych skałach węglanowo-krzemianowych i silnie okwarcowanych skałach diopsydowo-tremolitowych w postaci impregnacji, żyłek i masywnych agregatów ziarnistych. Pirotyn i chalkopiryt zawierają liczne wrostki oraz tworzą przerosty z innymi minerałami (sfaleryt, galena, glaukodot, costibit, kobaltyn, arsenopiryt, ullmannit, siegenit, tytanit, Co-bravoit i kasyteryt). Niewielkie kryształy (10–20 μm średnicy) tworzą minerały Bi (matyldyt i cosalit) i argentyt. W paragenezie z barytem, kalcytem i chlorytem pojawiają się amalgamaty Ag–Hg oraz cynober. Wyniki prac pozwoliły rozpoznać nowe, dotychczas nieopisywane ze złoża minerały. Rezultaty badań wskazują na krystalizację minerałów kruszcowych podczas 4–5 oddzielnych etapów precypitacji kruszców z roztworów hydrotermalnych, w zakresie od temperatur średnich do niskich. Wstępne wyniki oznaczeń wieku izotopowego metodą Re–Os młodszej generacji pirytów (pozbawionych domieszek kobaltu) wskazują na ich precypitację w interwale 240–260 mln lat.
The famous Shilu iron-polymetallic ore mining district located in western Hainan Island, South China, occurs within Meso- and Neoproterozoic low-grade metamorphosed volcanoclastics and carbonates, that belong to the 6th sequence of the Shilu Group. Granitoid intrusions of different ages occur in the surroundings of the mining area. The Shilu deposit is considered to be a structurally reworked as well as hydrothermally altered and enriched ore deposit of a Banded Iron Formation type. The deposit is a very important iron producer from hematite (and minor magnetite) ores. Our work focused on the polymetallic sulfide mineralization that underlies the iron oxide ores. We selected several samples of sulfide ores from the Shilu deposit of the Beiyi mine and its close vicinity. We performed detailed ore microscopic studies as well as electron microprobe analyses using the CAMECA SX 100 equipped with EDS and WDS systems. Pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite and Co-bearing pyrite (up to 11 wt% Co) dominated among ore sulfides in the studied samples. These ore minerals occur in calc-silicate rocks and strongly silicified diopside, tremolite-bearing rocks, either as disseminated grains, sometimes in veinlets, or in aggregates that may form massive ores. Pyrrhotite and chalcopyrite may contain numerous solid inclusions, overgrowths and intergrowths of subordinate sulfides (sphalerite, galena), sulfosalts (glaucodot, costibite, cobaltite, arsenopyrite, ullmannite), sulfospinels (siegenite) and cassiterite that belong to the minerals crystallizing at medium to low temperatures. Among these minerals, siegenite and Co-bravoite dominate. Tiny crystals (10–20 μm in size) of Bi-minerals (matildite, cosalite) and argentite are also present. Moreover, in association with barite, calcite and chlorite, Ag-Hg amalgamate and cinnabar can occur. The results of our study point to the multistage medium- to low-temperature hydrothermal precipitation of ore sulfides during 4–5 separate stages. Preliminary results of Re-Os isotope datings indicate that pyrites of younger generation (lack of significant Co admixture) crystallized during 240–260 Ma.
