In this paper we deal with the idea of an entrepreneurial university in Polish conditions with a special reference to the University of Warsaw, the biggest university in Poland. We try to prove that the signpost on the road towards such model of a university is a proper strategy of research cooperation between the University and the economic environment, especially with the business sector. We argue that the strategy should be based on a marketing approach. However, there is still a long road ahead of the University of Warsaw towards the model of entrepreneurial university.

The article deals with the concept of science in action. This is a method of conducting science in the interests of the local community and in collaboration with local institutions. Academic research is coupled with practice, with the common aim of solving specific social problems. Knowledge gained in this way enriches global achievements, and at the same time meets the needs of the community. The defining conditions of this process are respect and mutual acknowledgement among co-workers, partnership communication, co-operation focussed on effectiveness and the coupling of theory with practical research, as well as a full-scale diagnosis of the real problems in the institute.

Polish traditional university stands on the road leading to “the station” named: An entrepreneurial University. A broad range of research results’ commercialization and an intensive cooperation between a university and the business sector are two – mutually tided with each other – basic features of the entrepreneurial University creating essential sources of its revenues. A signpost on the road towards such model of a university is the strategy of broadening, diversifi cation and streamlining its research cooperation with the economic environment.

The article outlines a universal and selective prevention program aiming at weakening the risk factors – child peer rejection and the emergence and prevalence of a low skills stereotype. It is based on the cooperation of researchers with pairs of faculty members teaching in the same 4th grade: the class host and a Polish, math or a foreign language teacher. The goal of this cooperation is to create better psychosocial development conditions in interactions with teachers and peers, diminishing the sense of helplessness during Polish and math classes, the risk of stereotypes and the school– and learning-re-lated stress. The results of the seven-month cooperation will be assessed through research conducted in 18 classes randomly assigned to the trial group (9 classes) and the control group (9 classes). The pretest, after-test and the measurement of results extended for a year after the conclusion of the program will include students with the after-test covering also teachers. The socio-economic status of students’ families will be the variable controlled for.

In the years 2017–2021, the school exchange project Nachbarsprache & buurcultuur was carried out in the German-Dutch border region and funded by the EU as an Interreg Va-project. During the entire project period, the exchanges that took place were critically monitored. In this article, we (as project managers from the Dutch side) go into the available scientific findings and basic requirements for ‘successful’ encounters in school exchanges, as well as selected critical results from the monitoring of the project Nachbarsprache & buurcultuur for the areas of pluricultural or culture-reflective and multilingual learning in exchanges.

This study presents an analysis of the unprecedented growth of international research collaboration in Europe in terms of distribution of co-authorship and citation of globally indexed publications over the last decade (2009–2018). The dynamics of change that emerge from this analysis are as follows: the increasing level of international cooperation is drawing key European systems away from institutional cooperation, with stable and strong national cooperation. National scientific output, i.e. the total number of publications, remains stable, and the entire increase in the number of publications over the period should be attributed to international co-authorship publications, which are the only driving force behind the increase in the number of publications in Europe. Due to the emergence of global networked science, in which the role of national policies in cooperation is decreasing and the role of scientists is growing, the key to the development of cooperation in Europe (and in Poland) is the readiness of individual scientists to undertake international cooperation. Researchers cooperate internationally when it is profitable for them in terms of academic prestige, scientific recognition and access to research funding, which is suggested by the three models proposed here (the model of credibility cycle in science, the model of prestige maximization and the model of global science). The total number of analyzed articles indexed in the Scopus database was 5.5 million, including 2.2 million articles written in international cooperation.

Opis:
Currently, the European Commission puts emphasis on supporting collaboration between universities and business. There are many possible ways to create a strong relationship between both these parties. Positive results of such cooperation lead to increased competitiveness of the global market and, in consequence, bring significant growth of innovation. The cooperation between research-to-research (R2R) and research-to-business (R2B) is analysed. The paper shows how the IT technology can be used to support and stimulate it. In our University we proposed a two-step strategy. Firstly, we tried to improve collaboration among scientists in order to develop R2R activities. Secondly, we focused on R2B projects that stimulate promising scientists to take part in various innovative activities carried out in cooperation with the industry representatives. Based on some well-known good practices a special Internet platform was designed and implemented to support such a strategy. Its name is the “Bridge of Knowledge”. The platform architecture, its functionality and some other aspects of the development process are described. The platform was developed and introduced at the Gdańsk University of Technology. It has been available online for nearly 2 years now and it has been attracting increasing numbersof new visitors and returning users. Several use cases of cooperation between R2R and R2Bwere analysed and described with the use of advanced analytic tools and on the basis of the organisation’s resources. The idea of the Bridge of Knowledge platform is to gather and share resources not only from one university. The architecture of the platform focuses on a wide and easy interoperability. Other universities can share their resources without any additional cost.

Opis:
Growing complexity of the environment arising both from the processes of globalization in world economy and from the development processes in Poland has become a strategic challenge for the Institute of Aviation. Significant disproportions of the potential of Poland, compared to Germany, United States, or China (especially in terms of the economic dimension and the adopted model for financing scientific research), as well as distant position of Polish universities on the scientific map of the world lead to the necessity to create a model for managing the Institute of Aviation based on internationalization of research and cooperation with leading scientific and (Ohio State University – OSU) technological centres (General Electric – GE). The experiences of the Institute of Aviation show that what should be the basis of international competitiveness of research institutes is well educated scientific personnel, modern research infrastructure and competences of cooperation. A proof of this is 16-year-long strategic alliance (private-public partnership) of the Institute and GE, cooperation with OSU and activities in European research consortia. The innovative dimension of scientific cooperation with OSU (2+2 formula, research internships, commission for predicting new directions of scientific research) and other foreign partners allows the Institute of Aviation to achieve success in competition of international character.
Narastająca złożoność otoczenia wynikająca zarówno z procesów globalizacyjnych w gospodarce światowej, jak i rozwojowych w Polsce stała się wyzwaniem strategicznym dla Instytutu Lotnictwa. Duże dysproporcje potencjału Polski w stosunku do Niemiec, Stanów Zjednoczonych, czy Chin (szczególnie w wymiarze ekonomicznym i przyjętego modelu finansowania badań naukowych) oraz niska pozycja uczelni krajowych na naukowej mapie świata powodują konieczność tworzenia modelu zarządzania Instytutem Lotnictwa w oparciu o internacjonalizację badań oraz o współpracę z wiodącymi ośrodkami naukowymi (Ohio State University – OSU) i technologicznymi (General Electric – GE). Doświadczenia Instytutu Lotnictwa dowodzą, że podstawą konkurencyjności międzynarodowej instytutów badawczych powinna być dobrze wykształcona kadra naukowa, nowoczesna infrastruktura badawcza oraz kompetencje kooperacji. Dowodem jest szesnastoletni alians strategiczny (partnerstwo publiczno-prywatne) Instytutu z GE, współpraca z OSU oraz działania w ramach europejskich konsorcjów badawczych. Nowatorski wymiar współpracy naukowej z OSU (formuła 2+2, staże badawcze, komisja ds. prognozowania nowych kierunków badań naukowych) oraz innymi partnerami zagranicznymi pozwala Instytutowi Lotnictwa osiągać sukcesy konkurencyjne o charakterze międzynarodowym.

New areas of activities of Polish Research Institutes, competitiveness, measures of successes of Research Institutes, model of Research Institute, way to international cooperation are presented in the paper. At present Polish industry looking for well educated graduates, therefore Polish universities are flourishing. Foreign owners and clients became sources of new technologies. It is easy to justify choice of these solutions. International cooperation gives opportunity for achievement global R&D competition. It also gives opportunity for young well educated graduates to work in Poland. Successes of Research Institute demand double measures. It means necessity to measure two success elements: economy success and professional success. Modern research institute can be compared to professional sport club. Such sport club members, there are people hungry for knowledge and job successes, ready for heavy work, greedy for fame. This similarity creates new innovative management conception of Research Institutes in Poland. The paper presents in particulate Institute of Aeronautics, Some data concerning the Institute of Aeronautics illustrate its possibilities scientific-research, the possibility of working out novel of products and the international cooperation within the framework of bilateral agreements and European Programs.

The two-day conference was interdisciplinary. The speakers included a number of participants from Poland, Ukraine and Germany.

The article contributes to a better understanding of the role of research in the policies of the states that are scientifically engaged in the High North. The research covers 17 European states: six are Arctic and 11 non-Arctic, which were selected according to the follow- ing (at least one) formulated criteria: having an established tradition of carrying out scientific research in the Arctic region; having issued Arctic policy documents and/or Arctic research strategies; participation in the activities of the Arctic Council; and having gained member- ship of the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC). In the analysis we have applied a mixed research method, since it incorporates elements of both qualitative and quantitative approaches and offers a more comprehensive review of the scrutinised texts. The qualitative analysis relies on a discourse analysis (predicate analysis). The quantitative part of the analysis utilizes the instruments of a software research tool — The AntConc. In the end, the outcomes of both methods are merged and compared. The study reveals that conducting scientific re- search is not a top priority for all Arctic states. However, it has the highest similarity in terms of applied approaches among Arctic states as compared to other fields (e.g. the economy, se- curity or pollution). At the same time, the environment and climate change are perceived to be the most important drivers behind Arctic research as defined in the Arctic states’ strategies. Moreover, there are major differences among both Arctic and non-Arctic states in terms of the level of accuracy in the presentation of their research activities, particularly with regard to the implementation of scientific programmes and research aims. Finally, the research indicates that all states highlight that international scientific cooperation stimulates cooperation also in other areas and that research provides information that supports decision making and policy creation

W opracowaniu podjęto problematykę znaczenia szkolnictwa wyższego w działalności badawczo-rozwojowej wybranych krajów. Celem artykułu było ustalenie występujących w gospodarce światowej modeli udziału uczelni w B+R oraz próba oceny ich efektywności w kontekście współczesnych wyzwań. Przeprowadzone badania pozwoliły na identyfikację czterech modeli. Podjęto także badania efektywności B+R szkolnictwa wyższego. Wykazano, że najskuteczniejszym modelem jest model I (oparty na biznesie), który cechują wysokie nakłady na B+R (w odniesieniu do PKB) oraz realizacja B+R przez uczelnie na poziomie najwyżej kilkunastu procent. Sprzyja on prowadzeniu przez uczelnie badań stosowanych i rozwojowych oraz zaangażowaniu biznesu w finansowanie B+R uczelni, a w efekcie daje podstawy do funkcjonowania uczelni w systemie potrójnej helisy.
The study was taken the issue of importance of higher education in research and development in selected countries. The aim was to identify models of universities in R&D in the world economy and try to assess their effectiveness in the context of contemporary challenges. The study allowed the identification of four models. It has been shown that the most effective model is the model I (based on the business) which is characterized by high expenditures on R&D (relative to GDP) and the implementation of R&D by universities to a maximum over a dozen percent. It promotes the realisation of applied research and experimental development by universities and the involvement of business in the higher eduction R&D and in effect gives rise to the functioning of the universities in system of the triple helix.

Bearing in mind the interdisciplinary nature of the origin of Slavs, in the process of reviewing the issue in relation with archaeology, the debate and the results of research carried out by representatives of other areas of science must be taken into consideration. The goal of this article is a review of the published results of an analysis of fossil and contemporary genetic material, coupled with discussing interpretation thereof in relation with the issue at hand. The work presents a selection of surveys which, according to the author, provide representatives of humanities with insight into the latest state of research. The presentation is preceded by introductory information about the examined material and the analysis methods as well as the conditioning factors. A methodological challenge was faced in the form of connecting data provided by geneticists and the findings from other disciplines, including archaeology, as indicated in the final part of the article.

The publication considers reinforced soil in relation to the construction of retaining walls in communication construction. The basic elements determining the cooperation of reinforcement inserts with the ground centre are discussed, depending on the features characterizing the components of the composite. The method and selected results of tests performed on a massif model with a vertical wall made of non-cohesive ground have been presented. A calculation example is given concerning the internal dimensioning of the reinforcement of the considered massif model, assuming the work of inserts without slipping in the ground centre. The concept of reinforcement co-operation indicator with the ground centre was introduced and a dependence to calculate its value was developed. The values of co-operation indicators: general and partial, concerning individual measurement levels of the model have been presented appropriately.

The author in his text dedicated to action research made in the Vilnius region, Lithuania (a project realized by undergraduate students, PhD students, and one of the employees of the Chair of Ethnology and Anthropology University of Wrocław and a Lithuanian partner), presents an approach of engaged anthropology, basing on the characteristics important for it: cooperation, dialogism, openness, voluntariness. The paper presents the main features of the methodology of action research and further – the objectives and results of the research. It describes the cooperation between the academic anthropologists and non-professionals, moreover – the reflections on fieldwork and the problems that researcher has to cope with.
