In this article, we study the shape sensitivity of optimal control for the steady Stokes problem. The main goal is to obtain a robust representation for the derivatives of optimal solution with respect to smooth deformation of the flow domain. We introduce in this paper a rigorous proof of existence of the material derivative in the sense of Piola, as well as the shape derivative for the solution of the optimality system. We apply these results to derive the formulae for the shape gradient of the cost functional; under some regularity conditions the shape gradient is given according to the structure theorem by a function supported on the moving boundary, then the numerical methods for shape optimization can be applied in order to solve the associated optimization problems.

Opis:
Jatropha curcas plant is greatly impaired by mosaic disease, caused by the viruses (Begomovirus), transmitted by whiteflies, which act as the vector. Roguing (i.e. removal of infected plant) and spraying of insecticides are common methods, employed in order to get rid of the disease. In this article, a mathematical model has been developed to study the mosaic disease dynamics while considering preventive measures of roguing and insecticide spraying. Sufficient conditions for the stability of equilibrium points of the system are among the results obtained through qualitative analysis. We obtain the basic reproduction number R0 and show that the disease free system is stable for R0 < 1 and unstable for R0 > 1. The region of stability of equilibrium points in different parameter spaces have also been analysed. Hopf bifurcation at the endemic steady state has been studied subsequently, as well. Finally, by formulating an optimal control problem, optimal application of roguing and spraying techniques has been determined, keeping in mind the cost effective control of the mosaic disease. Pontryagin minimum principle has been utilized to solve the optimal control problem. Numerical simulations illustrate the validity of the analytical outcomes.

Enzymes play a significant role in controlling the characteristics of various chemical and biochemical reactions. They act as catalysts that increase the rate of reaction without undergoing any change in quantity. Enzymatic reactions occur through the active sites, which combine with the substrates to form intermediate complexes, subsequently leading to products. An enzyme having two active sites can show cooperative phenomena. Against this background, an enzyme-kinetic mathematical model is formulated using fractional order derivatives. Optimal control mechanism has been incorporated into the fractional-order model system to maximize the product output. Euler-Lagrange optimality conditions are derived for the FOCP (fractional order control problem) using maximum principle. Numerical iterative schemes have been developed to solve the fractional order optimal control problem through Matlab.

In this paper, we consider the class of nondifferentiable multiobjective fractional variational control problems involving the nondifferentiable terms in the numerators and in the denominators. Under univexity and generalized univexity hypotheses, we prove optimality conditions and various duality results for such nondifferentiable multiobjective fractional variational control problems. The results established in the paper generalize many similar results established earlier in the literature for such nondifferentiable multiobjective fractional variational control problems.

The purpose of the study was to suppress a known natural focus of fi eld fever exerting an infl uence on animal hosts of leptospires – small terrestrial mammals (s.t.m.) by rodenticide. After repeated application of the zinc phosphide rodenticide, the s.t.m. were regularly live-trapped and checked for leptospirosis by dark-fi eld microscopy and culture of their renal tissue and serological examination. Isolated leptospira strains were typed by help of rabbit factor sera. The deratization infl uenced the s.t.m. structure considerably: the proportion of the dominant Microtus arvalis subjects – the main reservoirs of Leptospira kirschneri serovar Grippotyphosa – were gradually and substantionally reduced and, contrarily, the percentage of the potetial hosts subjects – Clethrionomys glareolus and Apodemus fl avicollis – rose decisively over time. Changes in culture and serological positivity for leptospirosis of s.t.m. have also been enregistered. The highest original infestation of M. arvalis have slowly but strongly decreased while that of C. glareolus and A. fl avicollis has increased decisively and reached its maximum within the last years of investigation. It is probable that these two animal species have undertaken the leading role in the maintenance of the natural focus of the fi eld fever. In other animal species analogous trends were not registered. Based on these long-term fi ndings, there exists the possibility to suppress only partially and temporarily the epizootic process of leptospirosis in a natural focus that can be desirable in some circumstances (building or free time activities, etc.).

This research presents the novel control strategy of the brushless DC motor. The optimal current driver is designed using Linear Quadratic Regulator and feedback linearization. Additionally, the current reshaping strategy is applied to control the motor torque. Thus, the torque controller is built based on the optimal current driver. Opis:
An optimal control theory based method is presented aiming at minimizing the energy delivered from source and the power loss in a stepper motor circuit. A linear quadratic current regulator with an infinite time horizon is employed and its appropriateness for this type of a problem explained. With the purpose of improving the accuracy of the control system, the self and mutual inductances of windings are calculated using a finite element model. The numerically computed results are verified experimentally.

In the paper we introduce the newsvendor problem with a satisficing-level objective, which is defined as maximization of the probability of exceeding the moving target. This target is defined as the expected profit, multiplied by a positive constant. The constant is chosen by the management and it indicates whether the low or the high goal should be achieved. We obtain closed form solutions of this newsvendor model with uniformly distributed demand. Additionally, we consider a bicriteria problem with the satisficing- -level and the classical objective.

This paper presents the formulation and numerical simulation for linear quadratic optimal control problem (LQOCP) of free terminal state and fixed terminal time fractional order discrete time singular system (FODSS). System dynamics is expressed in terms of Riemann-Liouville fractional derivative (RLFD), and performance index (PI) in terms of state and costate. Because of its complexity, finding analytical and numerical solutions to singular system (SS) is difficult. As a result, we use coordinate transformation to convert FODSS to its corresponding fractional order discrete time nonsingular system (FODNSS). After that, we obtain the necessary conditions by employing a Hamiltonian approach. The relevant conditions are solved using the general solution approach. For the analysis of formulation and solution algorithm, a numerical example is illustrated. Results are obtained for various values. According to state of the art, this is the first time that a formulation and numerical simulation of free terminal state and fixed terminal time optimal control problem (OCP) of FODSS is presented.

In this work, we present optimal control formulation and numerical algorithm for fractional order discrete time singular system (DTSS) for fixed terminal state and fixed terminal time endpoint condition. The performance index (PI) is in quadratic form, and the system dynamics is in the sense of Riemann-Liouville fractional derivative (RLFD). A coordinate transformation is used to convert the fractional-order DTSS into its equivalent non-singular form, and then the optimal control problem (OCP) is formulated. The Hamiltonian technique is used to derive the necessary conditions. A solution algorithm is presented for solving the OCP. To validate the formulation and the solution algorithm, an example for fixed terminal state and fixed terminal time case is presented.

Stroke is a sudden-onset neurological deficit resulting from focal vascular lesions. This is either due to a clot-induced obstruction of a vessel (ischemic stroke) or a rupture of a vessel causing haemorrhage (hemorrhagic stroke). The appropriate diagnosis of brain stroke aphasic patients is a major public health problem one so important for effective rehabilitation. Here an important role is played by the diagnosis of impaired cognitive processes. The aim of the research was to find the index of impaired cognitive control with the use of ERPs in a patient following an ischemic stroke with aphasia. A male patient, aged 69, after an ischemic brain stroke experienced 4 months previously with resulting naming problem, was admitted to the Reintegrative and Teaching Center of the Polish Neuropsychological Society. In the neuropsychological evaluation three neuropsychological tests were employed: (a) the Boston Naming Test-Polish version, to evaluate the naming and word finding problem; (b) the nonverbal Bell test to ascertain a selective, visuospatial and strategic attentional evaluation; (c) the Digit Memory test to evaluate working memory capabilities; (d) ERPs as a neurophysiological index of impaired cognitive control. Significant changes were observed in testing. All cognitive functions including naming, nonverbal, visuospatial and strategic attention, along with the digit memory deviate substantially from the norm. The patient obtained a lo wer score, compared to the norm (p <0.05). Boston Naming Test (patient = 21< Mean-Norm = 57.29; SD= 0.52). Bell test (patient = 23 < Mean-Norm = 31.29; SD= 2.52). It is assumed that the coefficients of the state equation are unknown but a compact set that contains the parameters is known. In this paper the adaptive control problem for a continuous infinite time-varying stochastic control system with jumps in parameters and quadratic cost is investigated. It is assumed that the unknown coefficients of the system have limits as time tends to infinity and the boundary system is absolutely observable and stabilizable. Under these assumptions it is shown that the optimal value of the quadratic cost can be reached based only on the values of these limits, which, in turn, can be estimated through strongly consistent estimators.

Trajectory optimization problems with black-box represented objective functions are often solved with the use of some meta-heuristic algorithms. The aim of this paper is to show that gradient-based algorithms, when applied correctly, can be effective for such problems as well. One of the key aspects of successful application is choosing, in the search space, a basis appropriate for the problem. In an experiment to demonstrate this, three simple adaptations of gradient-based algorithms were executed in the forty-dimensional search space to solve the brachistochrone problem having a blackbox represented mathematical model. This experiment was repeated for two different bases spanning the search space. The best of the algorithms, despite its very basic implementation, needed only about 100 iterations to find very accurate solutions. 100 iterations means about 2000 objective functional evaluations (simulations). This corresponds to about 20 iterations of a typical evolutionary algorithm, e.g. ES(μ,l ).

In the present work we treat the inverse problem of identifying the matrix-valued diffusion coefficient of an elliptic PDE from multiple interior measurements with the help of techniques from PDE constrained optimization. We prove existence of solutions using the concept of H-convergence and employ variational discretization for the discrete approximation of solutions. Using a discrete version of H-convergence we are able to establish the strong convergence of the discrete solutions. Finally we present some numerical results.
