Opis:
Measurements of performance have always been crucial for the evaluation of telecommunication systems, especially for implementation of network control elements responsible for connection handling which regards to bandwidth reservation, modification and release. That problem also arises in the Automatically Switched Optical Network/Generalized Multiprotocol Label Switching (ASON/GMLPS) architecture, which is considered as one of the components of Next Generation Network (NGN). The European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) proposed a universal methodology of telecommunication control elements performance measurements, which can be also adopted to investigation of an ASON/GMPLS connection control layer. In this paper the application of the ETSI measurements methodology with regard to ASON/GMPLS performance is described. The implementation of a laboratory testbed as well as executed performance measurements according to the ETSI methodology and their results are presented.

This paper presents a gain scheduled controller design for MIMO and SISO systems in the frequency domain using the genetic algorithms approach. The proposed method is derived from the M-delta structure of closed loop MIMO (SISO) systems and the small gain theory is exploited to obtain the stability condition. An example of real system illustrates the effectiveness of the proposed output feedback gain scheduled controller design method and also the possibility to improve its performance using the genetic algorithm.

Opis:
Mechanical grinding (MG) is an effective method to regulate the pore structure and surface properties of mineral material. Grinding diatomite samples were prepared by horizontal sander under different grinding time. The pore structure and surface properties of grinding samples were characterized systematically by the particle size analysis, low temperature nitrogen adsorption, MIP, fractal theory, XRD, SEM, TEM, FTIR and surface hydroxyl density analysis. The humidity control performance (HCP) of grinding diatomite was tested under different temperature and relative humidity. The relationship among pore structure, surface properties and HCP was analyzed. The results show that macroporous is more easily damaged by mechanical force than mesoporous, and the internal blind holes structure can be opened. The HCP of diatomite is positively correlated with the specific surface area, mesoporous volume, the inhomogeneity of macroporous structure and the number of hydroxyl groups, while negatively correlated with the proportion of macroporous volume.

Opis:
The problem of fault tolerant control is studied from the behavioral point of view. In this mathematical framework, the concept of interconnection among the variables describing the system is a key point. The problem is that the behavior we intend to control is not known. Therefore, we are interested in designing a fault accommodation scheme for an unknown behavior through an appropriate behavioral interconnection. Here we deal simply with the trajectories that are generated by the system in real time. These trajectories determine the behavior of a system in various (faulty/healthy) modes. Based on the desired interconnected behavior, only the trajectories that obey certain laws are selected. These laws, representing the desired behavior, can indeed be achieved by a regular interconnection. Thus, when the trajectories do not belong to a certain desired behavior, it is considered to be due to the occurrence of a fault in the system. The vantage point is that the fault tolerant control problem now becomes completely a model-free scheme. Moreover, no explicit fault diagnosis module is required in our approach. The proposed fault tolerance mechanism is illustrated on an aircraft during the landing phase.

Opis:
Statistical approach to Control Performance Assessment (CPA) is of great practical importance. This is particularly visible in process industry, where there are many PID loops. They are often assessed with measures derived from the Gaussian probabilistic density function. Standard deviation, variance, skewness or kurtosis form the majority of applied indexes. The review of data originating from process industry shows, however, to the contrary, that these signals have rather non-Gaussian properties and are mostly characterized by fat-tailed distribution disable the ability. Investigations show that strong disturbances may significantly disable the capacity of proper assessment. Standard measures often fail in such cases. It is shown that non-Gaussian measures can help with this problem. Various disturbances are tested and compared. Results show that fat-tailed distributions are an interesting alternative. They are less sensitive to disturbance shadowing and still make possible loop dynamic assessment.

This paper presents an alternative approach to the task of control performance assessment. Various statistical measures based on Gaussian and non-Gaussian distribution functions are evaluated. The analysis starts with the review of control error histograms followed by their statistical analysis using probability distribution functions. Simulation results obtained for a control system with the generalized predictive controller algorithm are considered. The proposed approach using Cauchy and Lévy α-stable distributions shows robustness against disturbances and enables effective control loop quality evaluation. Tests of the predictive algorithm prove its ability to detect the impact of the main controller parameters, such as the model gain, the dynamics or the prediction horizon.

Opis:
A tuned mass damper is a kind of vibration damping device which has been widely used in tall buildings, machinery, bridges, aerospace engineering and other fields. In practical engineering applications, due to large deformation caused by large displacement, errors in engineering constructions and the existence of limit devices, the structure and tuned mass dampers inevitably produce some nonlinear characteristics, but these nonlinearities are often ignored. The results of this study confirm that the nonlinearity of the structure and the mass damper should be considered in the process of optimal frequency design, otherwise there will be a large deviation between the design optimal frequency of the mass damper and the actual optimal frequency. In this paper, nonlinear characteristics of the tuned mass damper and the main structure are considered. The first-order differential equations are obtained by using the complex average method, and the nonlinear equations of the tuned mass damper system are derived by using the multi-scale method. On this basis, the parameters are determined. The numerical results show that the error of the approximate solution method is small in the given example. The nonlinear tuned mass damper with nonlinear design exhibits a better control performance.

The contactless nature of active magnetic bearings brings about many advantages over the conventional bearing while industrial real-time applications are often limited by the significant complexity of control algorithms. This paper presents the application of an LQ controller to an active magnetic bearing system (AMB). Two control strategies are presented and compared: local and global. In the first case the rotor is modelled as two separated masses located at the bearing. In the second case rotor stabilization is considered globally as a problem of the rotating rigid body suspended in a magnetic field. The second approach is especially important for high-speed rotating machines. The control performance of both algorithms was analysed using an experimental AMB laboratory system.

Control quality is a crucial issue in modern industry. The engineer’s goal is to set control parameters and assess it constantly in order to maximize the efficiency of the process and watch the condition of actuators. The article describes a number of Control Performance Assessment indexes. They are applied to two tasks: controller tuning and the assessment of the quality of an already tuned control strategy. It presents a comparison between different indexes applied to various structures of the PID control algorithm. Finally the results are compared with Model Predictive Control. The analysis uses well known nonlinear industrial benchmark of a refrigeration system based on vapour compression.

In this article, the dynamic responses of heat exchanger networks to disturbance and setpoint change were studied. Various control strategies, including: proportional integral, model predictive control, passivity approach, and passivity-based model predictive control were used to monitor all outlet temperatures. The performance of controllers was analyzed through two procedures: 1) inducing a ±5% step disturbance in the supply temperature, or 2) tracking a ±5°C target temperature. The performance criteria used to evaluate these various control modes was settling time and percentage overshoot. According to the results, the passivity-based model predictive controllers produced the best performance to reject the disturbance and the model predictive control proved to be the best controller to track the setpoint. Whereas, the ensuing performance results of both the PI and passivity controllers were discovered to be only acceptable..

Learned helplessness is often studied as a consequence of repetitive failure in a performance domain and is usually associated with the experience of uncontrollability over future outcomes. The premise of this review article is first to establish initial support towards the notion of learned helplessness seen in the context of sports performance. Furthermore, the role of performance anxiety and maladaptive perfectionism will be introduced to strengthen the idea that thinking traits impact motor performance especially when these traits moderate the effects of consecutive failure experience. Finally the paper will focus on a typical profile of an athlete who would be susceptible to choking under pressure as an outcome of perceived uncontrollability and performance anxiety. Burnout and potential interventions will be discussed later.

This study analyses the performances of various path controlling strategies for a 3-degrees of freedom wrist exoskeleton, by comparing key indicators, such as rise time, steady-state error, and implementation difficulty. A model was built to describe both system’s kinematics and dynamics, as well as 3 different controllers (PID, PD+, and a hybrid force/position controller) that were designed to allow each joint to perform smooth motions within anatomic ranges. The corresponding simulation was run and assessed via Matlab (version 2020a). In addition to the performance comparison, remarkable characteristics could be identified among controllers. PD+ showed higher response speed than the other controllers (about 4 times), and PID was reinforced as the technique with the easiest implementation due to the smallest matrices. The study also allowed to greater potential of the hybrid controller to interact with its environment, i.e., the robotic device.

In some cases the classical performance indexes are not adequate for the performance evaluation of the concentration control systems. Therefore, the specific performance index is proposed in this paper. This index depends on the product of the product flow rate and some function of the deviation of the product concentration from the set point. In order to minimize this performance index the special control system is proposed. This special control system used to the forced circulation evaporator is studied using simulation techniques. The simulation results show that the system described in this paper produces the performance index less than classical control system.

The microgrid (MG) technology integrates distributed generations, energy storage elements and loads. In this paper, dynamic performance enhancement of an MG consisting of wind turbine was investigated using permanent magnet synchronous generation (PMSG), photovoltaic (PV), microturbine generation (MTG) systems and flywheel under different circumstances. In order to maximize the output of solar arrays, maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique was used by an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS); also, control of turbine output power in high speed winds was achieved using pitch angle control technic by fuzzy logic. For tracking the maximum point, the proposed ANFIS was trained by the optimum values. The simulation results showed that the ANFIS controller of grid-connected mode could easily meet the load demand with less fluctuation around the maximum power point. Moreover, pitch angle controller, which was based on fuzzy logic with wind speed and active power as the inputs, could have faster responses, thereby leading to flatter power curves, enhancement of the dynamic performance of wind turbine and prevention of both frazzle and mechanical damages to PMSG. The thorough wind power generation system, PV system, MTG, flywheel and power electronic converter interface were proposed by Rusing Mat-lab/Simulink.

It was explored whether three different applications of elastic tape on the lower limbs of active, healthy dancers influence their postural control performance. 15 active, healthy dancers randomly performed demi-pointes and sissone ouvertes on a force platform in four experimental conditions: 1. no tape application, 2. ankle joint tape application, 3. leg muscle tape application, and 4. control tape application. Four kinetic parameters were calculated in order to represent postural control performance: 1) variable error of force magnitude in forward-backward direction, 2) variable error of force magnitude in side to side direction. 3) peak impact force during landing phase and 4) episodes of overall duration. Results revealed a task-dependent performance-enhancing effect and an application-specific performance-influencing effect concerning vertical ground reaction force measurements. It is concluded that the application of elastic tape for healthy, active dancers may on the one hand enhance parameters of postural control, whereas the same elastic tape application may hamper other performance related aspects of typical modern and classical ballet dance routines. Conflicting scientific results may thus indicate that generalized effects are controversial and positive influences in one specific characteristic can induce a decrease in another performance influencing characteristic.
