Opis:
Natural Language Inference (NLI) is a hot topic research in natural language processing, contradiction detection between sentences is a special case of NLI. This is considered a difficult NLP task which has a significant influence when added as a component in many NLP applications (such as question answering systems and text summarization). The Arabic language is one of the most challenging low-resources languages for detecting contradictions due to its rich lexical semantics ambiguity. We have created a data set of more than 12k sentences and named it ArNLI; it will be publicly available. Moreover, we have applied a new model that was inspired by Stanford's proposed contradiction-detection solutions for the English language. We proposed an approach for detecting contradictions between pairs of sentences in the Arabic language using a contradiction vector combined with a language model vector as an input to a machine-learning model. We analyzed the results of different traditional machine-learning classifiers and compared their results on our created data set (ArNLI) and on the automatic translation of both the PHEME and SICK English data sets. The best results were achieved by using the random forest classifier, with accuracies of 0.99, 0.60 and 0.75 on PHEME, SICK, and ArNLI respectively.

The article discusses W.V.O. Quine's critique of the classical distinction 'analytic vs. synthetic sentences'. The author claims that the debate concerning this distinction is essential for semantic and lexicographic analysis, which nowadays must face certain well known metaphysical problems. She discusses five strategies of argumentation formed against Quine's position, inluding four explicit definitions of analyticity. The author claims that A. Bogusławski's (1998) definition seems to be the most effective one, and the same time closest to Kant's approach. This definition can be adopted in order to verify claims on the analyticity of propositions which include two predicates under discussion.

Opis:
The assumptions used in the calculation methods for housing heating costs are described in this paper. The results of calculations are influenced by the values of coefficients related to the location of flats in a building. A technical contradiction, a reversed technical contradiction and a physical contradiction were formulated. Based on the indicated inventive principles, the calculation methods for individual heating costs were analysed.

The issue of the logic of theology so far have not been given so much attention neither from logicians nor from theologians. The first group seem not to consider the language of theology as a “place” to apply the results of their work. Also theologians are not particularly interested in that issue. The aim of this paper is to highlight one aspect of the issue of logic of theology, namely – the problem of the contradiction in the (language of) contemporary theology. In the first section, we show some of many examples of contradictions in contemporary theology. Next, the question regarding the reason of the existence so many examples of contradiction in theology is addressed. In the subsequent section, some problems generated by those contradictions are considered and a question if certain kind of logic would be able to deal with those problems is raised. Finally, some remarks regarding the need to take systematic research on logic (language) theology and the need to build analytic theology are postulated.

The article includes an overview of syntactic and semantic features of expressions jednocześnie, równocześnie and zarazem. The analysis is divided into two main parts. In the first one the author discusses the relationship between temporal adverbs and meta-textual units of language. She shows that the meta-textual expressions in question are semantically close to adverbial units – their function is not pointing to the coexistence of events but to organize a sentence and connect two functionally equal units. The second part focuses on the function of the lexical units in question within deviant sentences. The article also brings forth some remarks on the semantic consequences and effects of using the unit jednocześnie in the negation test.

Bytom is a city located in Upper Silesia, in the southern part of Poland which after World War II found itself within the boundaries of Poland after several hundred years. For many centuries, the main function of the city has been metal-ore and hard coal mining, which considerably contributed to its historical identity. The over 800-year history is full of numerous social, economic and ethnic conflicts caused by frequent changes in the city’s political affiliation and frequent redefinitions of its identity. After the collapse of communism, during the political and economic transformation, there arose a need to determine a new development path, in particular a new perspective on the heritage from the times of German dominance and from the times of communism. The mining and heavy industries have already ceased to be the basis of Bytom’s identity. Taking account of these historical rationales, this article attempts to answer the question of whether, among a number of contradictions and conflicts, the urban community of today’s Bytom, heterogeneous in terms of its origin, will be able to generate a model of cultural identity and historical remembrance accepted by all. All these complex and at the same time contradictory processes have been discussed through the prism of their reflection in the urban space and examined by means of historical analysis and contemporary cartographic and photographic sources.

The article deals with the issue of school culture from the perspective of its inherent resistance. It is a manifestation of a contradictory nature of this culture. The text aims to analyze the oppositional manifestations of school culture located in different dimensions of its activity. Paradoxically, school culture is constructed from contradictions and thus, its full knowledge requires the diagnosis of the dualities that coexist in it. This article analyzes the clash of these dualities in normative, organizational, symbolic, spatial, temporal, aesthetic and interactive dimensions.
Artykuł podejmuje problematykę kultury szkolnej z perspektywy tkwiącego w niej oporu. Opór ten jest przejawem sprzeczności kultury szkolnej. Celem artykułu jest analiza przeciwstawnych przejawów kultury szkolnej mieszczących się w różnych obszarach jej oddziaływania. Paradoksalnie kultura szkolna oparta jest na sprzecznościach, a zatem jej pełne poznanie wymaga zdiagnozowania współistniejących w niej dwoistości. Przedmiotem niniejszego artykułu jest analiza zderzenia tych dwoistości w wymiarze normatywnym, organizacyjnym, symbolicznym, przestrzennym, czasowym, estetycznymi interakcyjnym.

Deciphering vocal and facial signs of emotion by children aged 4 to 7Communication can be both verbal and non-verbal. Often a person’s true intentions are expressed non-verbally. The two main factors of non-verbal expression are voice and facial expression.Research has shown (Edwards, Manstead and MacDonalds, 1984; Głodowski, 1999) that children who decipher non-verbal signals most adeptly are the most popular among their peers, while those who show a lack of ability in this matter may experience social and educational failures.The purpose of this study was to determine: 1. If and to what extent preschool-aged children (4;0–7;11 years) recognize facial signs of emotion. 2. If and to what extent preschool-aged children recognize vocal signs of emotion. 3. If, in the case of a contradiction between the verbal and non-verbal message, pre-school children emphasize the content or the intonation of speech.This research involved the participation of 113 children attending pre-schools in the Tri- City. Analysis of the study results allowed us to state that as children mature, one can observe an increase in their ability to decipher emotions from facial expressions, while their ability to recognize emotions expressed by voice modulation decreases. Moreover, it appears that in the case of ambiguous messages, younger children place more emphasis on voice intonation than their older peers, whereas older children prefer the message content as the main indicator of information.

The basis of Aristotle’s arguments about truth and falsity is formulated syntactically according to the distinctions of ‘to be’ as the predicative affirmation - composition and, correspondingly, ‘not to be’ as negation – separation. As the nominal defining characteristic of falsity is contradiction, so of truth is non-contradiction. The expression of truth or falsity in the declarative sentence of affirmation or negation is a function of thinking as a human cognitive disposition under the semantic figures of categorical predication. In addition, we cite Aristotle’s more important texts on the true intellection of non-composites (indivisibles), the investigation of truth and probability, the diagnosis of falsehood, the truthfulness and lying. Finally, a mention of modern adaptations of Aristotle’s concept of truth.

So far, numerous studies have been published on the selection of appropriate maintenance tactics based on some factors affecting them such as time, cost, and risk. This paper aims to develop the TRIZ contradiction matrix by explaining the dimensions and components of each of the following Reactive maintenance tactics. The related findings of previous studies were analyzed by adopting “Rousseau and Sandoski” seven-step method to identify and extract the relationships between TRIZ principles and Reactive maintenance tactics. Thereafter, 5 Reactive maintenance tactics were replaced TRIZ’s 40 principles in the TRIZ contradiction matrix. Finally, the ANP method were used to extract and prioritize the appropriate Reactive maintenance tactics. The proposed matrix in this research was used in the desalination section of one of the oil companies to select on the appropriate Reactive maintenance tactics. The results of this research is useful for managers and maintenance specialists of units in making decisions to provide appropriate Reactive maintenance tactics for the desired equipment.

The article reveals the methodological significance of legal constructions and shows their influence on the interpretation of legal norms. It has been found that legal construction is one of the epistemological tools of legal science and means of interpreting legal norms in the process of their implementation. A concentrated expression of the possible conditions of law enforcement determines the methodological significance of legal constructions during the interpretation of legal norms. The legal construction is shown as a set of stable connections of the object, which ensure its integrity and identity. Emphasis is placed on the fact that intraindustry and inter-industry connections of legal norms allow law to preserve its properties as a regulatory in the face of internal and external changes, to be stable and stable. The existence of a stable structure determines the existence of law as a system is a condition for the existence of law. The author came to the conclusion that in order to optimize legal interpretation activity, it is necessary to improve the process of eliminating defects in legal constructions. The ambiguity and inconsistency of legal constructions is a consequence of the increase in the number of scientific terms, special expressions, contradictions and gaps in the normative material. The reason for this is hasty normative design without compliance with the requirements of legal technique. With the help of legal constructions, insightful, detailed and in-depth clarification of the content of legal norms is carried out.

Zasada kontradyktoryjności, nazywana również zasadą sporności, jest nadrzędnym celem wszystkich działań procesowych, stanowi sine qua non każdego procesu spornego. Jej właściwą treścią jest dążenie do prawdy obiektywnej poprzez stawianie tezy przeciwnej, co wyraża się w wypowiedzeniu przez jeden z podmiotów tezy A, przy jednoczesnym wypowiadaniu przez drugi podmiot tezy nie-A. Aktywność procesowa w kontekście realizacji zasady kontradyktoryjności jest wieloaspektowa. Oczywiście ta aktywność, ze względu na zaistnienie trudności technicznych w obszarze relacji międzyludzkich z uwagi na pandemię, może mieć nieco zmniejszoną dynamikę. Niemniej jednak nie powinno to mieć wpływu na kontradyktoryjny wymiar procesu. W niektórych przypadkach możemy zauważyć pewne niuanse procesowe, o których można dyskutować, czy one jeszcze są tym, czym być powinny, czy też raczej już tym nie są. W niektórych sytuacjach na przykład zasada bezpośredniości może ulec pewnym modyfikacjom, gdyż spotkanie online stron procesowych z sędzią kościelnym, przy słabym przekazie internetowym, może w bardzo istotny sposób wpłynąć na brak staranności w dotarciu do prawdy obiektywnej. Również brak emocji związanych z osobistym spotkaniem może mieć na to duży wpływ, co należy potraktować jako negatywną stronę tego, co niesie za sobą rzeczywistość pandemiczna. Emocje negatywne w relacjach międzyludzkich są zwykle oceniane w sposób jednoznaczny, jednakże należy na nie spojrzeć z innej perspektywy, gdyż bywają one pobudką do działania. Podmioty poruszone jakimś faktem uaktywniają swój intelekt i intensyfikują swoje czynności procesowe, a przy takiej okazji można od nich wydobyć większą ilość faktów, które mogą się przyczynić do wydania sprawiedliwego wyroku.
The principle of contradiction, called also principium contradictori, is the superior goal of all process activities, it is sine qua non of any contentious trial. It’s correct content is striving for objective truth by putting forward the opposite thesis. This is expressed in the utterance of thesis A by one of the subjects, while the other subject expresses the thesis non-A. Process activity in the context of the implementation of the contradiction principle is multidimensional. Obviously, this activity, due to technical difficulties in interpersonal relations because of pandemic, may have slightly reduced dynamics. Nevertheless, this should not have an impact on the contradictional dimension of the process. In some cases, we can note some procedural nuances, which can be discussed whether they are still what they should be, or whether they are no longer what they should be. In some situations, for example, the principle of directness may be slightly modified, as the online meeting of the parties in case with a judge, with poor internet transmission, may significantly affect the lack of diligence in reaching the objective truth. Also, the lack of emotions related to a personal meeting can have a big impact on it, which should be treated as a negative side of what the pandemic reality entails. Negative emotions in interpersonal relationships are usually assessed in an unambiguous way, however, they should be viewed from a different perspective, as they can be an incentive to act. Subjects moved by some fact activate their intellect and intensify their procedural activities, and on such an occasion it is possible to extract from them more facts that may contribute to the issuance of a fair judgment.

The following text is the first chapter of Jacques Derrida’s book Politiques de l’amitié [The Politics of Friendship], being the exemplary and standard case of deconstruction, in this particular case, of philosophical texts (Cicero, Plato and, notably, Aristotle). The starting point for the discussion is the performative contradiction inscribed in the wellknown fragment On friendship from Essays by Michel de Montaigne: “O mes amis, il n’y a nul amy” (O my friends, there is no friend). Apparently, everything here is well-known and obvious, even the very notion of friendship, but as we proceed in the argument provided by Derrida, the obvious becomes less obvious to us and takes on new shades and hues in meaning, acquires new values. What is objective mixes in this fascinating argument with what is subjective. What is friendship? What is friendship today? Is friendship limited to just private sphere of interpersonal relations? The answer to the latter question is, according to Derrida, clearly negative. In the course of his argument he states: “There is no democracy without a community of friends”. This argument provides clues to understand a particular archeology of the notion, revealing oblique senses and contexts of the word “friendship”, its istory shown from the antiquity to the present day.
