Żyjemy w czasach cywilizacyjnego przełomu. Ludzka aktywność skierowana na podporządkowanie sobie środowiska naturalnego doprowadziła do jego dewastacji, niosącej katastrofalne skutki dla dalszego trwania ludzkości. Naukowe prognozy, publikowane od października 2018 roku, ukazują realne zagrożenie globalną katastrofą klimatyczną w najbliższych latach jako oczywisty scenariusz w przypadku niepodjęcia skutecznej próby przeciwdziałania zagrożeniu. Powstrzymanie katastrofy staje się coraz trudniejszym zadaniem dla społeczności ludzi obecnie żyjących. Artykuł koncentruje się na zagadnieniu reakcji na wspomniany kryzys w dyskursie filozoficznym. W świetle przeprowadzonej analizy wiele wskazuje na to, że w filozofii współczesnej zagrożenie globalną katastrofą nie wywołuje wyraźnej reakcji jej przedstawicieli. Przeprowadzona analiza zmierza do ukazania przyczyn tego stanu rzeczy.
We live in a time of civilization breakthrough. Human activity aimed at the submission of the natural environment resulted in its devastation with disastrous consequences. Scientific predictions published since October 2018 show the threat of a global climate catastrophe in the coming years as an inevitable scenario unless we counteract it effectively. Preventing the catastrophe is becoming one of the most pressing problems facing the world today. This article examines the ways contemporary philosophy is addressing this issue, arguing that in fact there is no specific philosophical reaction to the climate catastrophe and advancing an explanation of such a striking negligence.

The text sets out from the proposition that if Christianity still aspires to be present in contemporary culture and society, it has to change fundamentally; it has to abandon its claims to being “the only one” and to universal truthfulness. However, this immediately begs the question whether such a change is even possible. Can Christianity, while still remaining Christianity, can satisfy the demand of pluralism? Thus, on the one hand, the paper aims to interpret secularization as pluralization (drawing on the philosophy of Gianni Vattimo, for instance). On the other hand, it attempts to reflect on the fundamental premises of the Christian religion and, therefore, ask about the possible existence of a pluralistic religion (through reference to the writings of Leszek Kołakowski).

Father Franciszek Sawicki is considered to be one of the most important philosophers of the interwar period in Poland. The problem of love must be regarded as one of the most significant among many issues he focused on in his research. Sawicki, one of the precursors of personalistic thinking, understands the essence of love as it functions in a personal relationship. Above all, we should distinguish two areas for the realisation of love: love in relation to God and love in relation to another human being. In both instances, Sawicki emphasises the need to take into account the "erotic moment" for the sake of full and proper understanding thereof. The erotic moment elucidates love as a force that engages not only the emotional and volitional spheres, but also the categorical and existential ones. This approach enables us to appreciate the full dimension of human sexuality as it pertains to the human being and ameliorate the tendency to depreciate or idolise it.

Polski przekład artykułu Gérarda Chazala, poświęconego relacji filozofii Françoisa Dagogneta do dzieła Gastona Bachelarda. Autor pokazuje złożoność tej relacji, analizując ją w odniesieniu do filozofii nauki (tu między innymi analizuje kwestię historyczności procesu kształtowania się wiedzy), filozofii techniki i filozofii sztuki. Artykuł stanowi też interesujący głos w dyskusji na temat istoty recepcji nurtów i koncepcji filozoficznych.
Polish translation of an article by Gérard Chazal, devoted to the relationship of François Dagognet’s philosophy to the work of Gaston Bachelard. The author shows the complexity of this relationship, analyzing it in relation to the philosophy of science (here, among others, analyzes the issue of the historicity of the process of formation of the knowledge), the philosophy of technology and the philosophy of art. In many dimensions Chazal shows that Dagognet was inspired not so much by the letter of Bachelard’s texts as by their spirit, using his methods and concepts in areas that Bachelard was not or only marginally interested in (including in the biological and medical sciences, in the visual arts). The article is also an interesting voice in the discussion about the essence of the reception of philosophical concepts and currents. In this aspect author asks about the negation of the source theory in its continuations at the same time asking whether it is not this kind of negative inspiration that best testifies to the vitality of the theory — alive due to constant creative transformations.

For millennia, philosophers have pondered the question, “Who are we?” It becomes a burning question at an age of scientific and technological civilization and a world full of conveniences, mainly because human life is still not comfortable. Adam Hart takes up the challenge of confronting the evolutionary achievements of the Homo species and the environment it has produced, showing that our life—for fundamental reasons—cannot be the realization of idyllic visions.

This paper aims at the presentation of ethical and political grounds of the pedagogy of asylum, which, in its assumptions, refers to concepts of such thinkers as Emmanuel Levinas, Erich Fromm, George Steiner, Hannah Arendt, Michael Walzer, Avishai Margalit, Jacques Derrida and Janusz Korczak. Utopia of hospitality, presented in its basic assumptions, constitutes a look at the social life, life of individuals and communities, as concentrated in asylums, while its author thinks that it forms an answer to modern challenges to Western democracies, education and politics in the “Age of Migration”.

The aim of the article Different faces of old age as perceived by the students of Polish studies is to present how old teachers perceive old age. The exemplification material consists of three texts: Winter tale. An essay on the old age of Ryszard Przybylski, “The Old Man’s Route”. An attempt at old age politics by Tadeusz Sławek and Lala Jacek Dehnel. Hermeneutical reading allowed for the creation of several images of autumn of life: a painful, marked by suffering attempts to overcome and suffering in a creative act; old age as a possibility of a deeper look at the spiritual dimension of human existence and old age reconciled with the laws of transiting the events immersed in the act of memorization.
Celem artykułu Różne oblicza starości w refleksji studentów polonistyki jest przedstawienie sposobu postrzegania starości przez przyszłych nauczycieli. Materiał egzemplifikacyjny stanowią trzy teksty: Baśń zimowa. Esej o starości Ryszarda Przybylskiego, „Trakt starego człowieka”. Próba polityki starości Tadeusza Sławka oraz Lala Jacka Dehnela. Hermeneutyczne czytanie pozwoliło na stworzenie kilku obrazów jesieni życia: bolesnej, naznaczonej cierpieniem próby przezwyciężenia i cierpienia w akcie twórczym; starości jako możliwości pogłębionego spojrzenia na duchowy wymiar ludzkiej egzystencji oraz starości pogodzonej z prawami przemijania zanurzonej w akcie memoracji danych wydarzeń.

The notion of history of philosophy is initiated by Bocheński by presentation of the notion of history itself which, according to him for the fact of treating the past („that what happened”), has two meanings: subject meaning (past events) and object meaning (historiosophy). Both of them can be further divided into two parts: history of facts and history of doctrines. History of philosophy is a typical history of doctrines. The second element of the name „history of philosophy”- which is philosophy-is etymologically linked to wisdom, present in numerous meanings: in antiquity its was simply a synonim of science. In the Middle Ages we observe division of human knowledge to revealed knowledge and natural knowledge, the latter one, in its aspect of exploring the ultimate principles and causes is called philosophy. In modern times philosophy was questioned at all or the entire science was included in its scope. For that reason Bocheński establishes the set of topics which are constantly present in the history of philosophy and which can be classified as strictly philosophical issues. They are: 1) the question of cognition (can we cognize truth?); 2) the question of science; 3) ontological issues (universalities, existence or non-existence of plurality); 4) questions of relation of science and psychic; 5) axiological issues (ethics, esthetics, philosophy of religion); 6) the question of absolute (God, eternal matter). Bocheński stresses that questions proper to philosophy can not be classified as one of the science and, what is more, contemporary methodology of science will rather not change this situation. Striking in that presentation is the lack of issues regarding philosophy of being (existence, essence, substance, accidental properties, relations, causes) with little exemption of philosophy of being inc-luded in the question of absolute. When it comes to division of history of philosophy, we may say that according to Bocheński it should follow analogically the traditional division of the European history such as classic, medieval, modern and contemporary times

Trzecia zaś poświęcona będzie krytyce filozofii religii Gianniego Vattima, która konstytuuje się jako wynik przyjęcia tezy o śmierci Boga.
The death of God thesis is a siginificant one when it comes to the contemporary philosophy of religion. In this article we will try to present this thesis in the light of Gianni Vattimo’s philosophy in order to clarify the meaning of the death of God and also to critisize it. The article will be divided into three sections. The aim of the first one will be to show the ways in which the death od God thesis should not be understood. The aim of the second will be to present the actual meaning of the thesis. And the third one will be devoted to the critique of Gianni Vattimo’s philosophy of religion which constitutes itself as a result of accepting the death of God thesis.

Postmodernistyczni humaniści często odwołują się do badań nauk szczegółowych w celu potwierdzenia swoich tez. Powstaje jednak zasadnicze pytanie: czy potrzebują oni szczegółowych nauk, aby potwierdzić swoje badania, czy też jest odwrotnie: uważają, że wszystkie badania nauk szczegółowych wypływają z tez humanistycznych lub kulturowych? Myśliciele postmodernistyczni zakładają tę drugą opcję. Wydaje się również, że owi humaniści nie są w stanie całkowicie pozbyć się racjonalnych terminów i metod, ponieważ one lepiej opisują rzeczywistość. Problem odwoływania się do nauk ścisłych i braku własnych klarownych metod podejmowany jest w prezentowanym tekście na przykładzie prac wybranych myślicieli postracjonalnych.
Postmodern humanists often refer to the study of particular sciences to confirm their theses. However, the general question arises: do they need these particular sciences to validate their research, or do they think that all natural research results from humanistic or cultural issues? Postmodern philosophers accept the latter option. It also seems that the postmodern humanists are not able to completely get rid of rational deadlines and methods, because it better describes reality. The problem of referring to the exact sciences and the lack of one's own clear methods is taken up in the presented text by the example of the works of selected non-rational thinkers.

The reviewer analyses the monograph Problematic-Thematic Units and Philosophical-Esthetical Parameters of the British Post-Postmodern Novel (Kyiv, 2020) written by Dmytro Drozdovskyi, a Ukrainian scholar from Taras Shevchenko Institute of Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, member of The European Society for the Study of English (Bulgarian branch). In the monograph, the author has outlined the theory of the post-postmodern novel based on the analysis of the key novels of contemporary British fiction (David Mitchell, Ian McEwan, Sarah waters, Mark Haddon, etc.). The review states that the Ukrainian scholar has developed the theory proposed by Fredric Jameson regarding the post-postmodern features of Cloud Atlas and also discusses the concept of meta-modernity as one of the sections in the post-postmodern literary paradigm in the UK. Drozdovskyi argues that meta-modernism cannot be the only term that explains all the peculiarities of contemporary British fiction, which also cannot be outlined as meta-modern but as post-postmodern. The scholar provides a new theory of the novel based on the exploitation of real and unreal historical facts and imagined alternative histories and multifaceted realities. Furthermore, the reviewer pays attention to the contribution this monograph has for world literary studies spotlighting the theory of literary meta-genre patterns, as Drozdovskyi provides a theory according to which literary periods can be divided into those in which the carnival is the dominant meta-genre pattern (like postmodernism) and those that exploit the mystery as the meta-genre pattern (post-postmodernism). The reviewer analyses the key thematic units explained by Drozdovskyi as the key ones that determine the semiosphere of the contemporary British novel (post-metaphysical and post-positivist thinking of the characters, medicalisation of the humanitarian discourse, and the representation of the temporal unity of different realities). The scholar also states that the post-postmodern British novel exploits the findings of German Romanticism and Kant’s philosophy.

In this article Asia Voloshina’s drama Patients is analysed in the context of the pathologies the characters deal with. The inspirations of her play are described, i.e. the films and memories of Luis Buñuel as well as medical cases from the practice of Oliver Sacks. The author also refers to Dante Alighieri’s The Divine Comedy. In this perspective the analysed work is a text about fear that appears when the quest for freedom is abandoned. If in The Divine Comedy in hell and purgatory are people who are sinful and do not know Christ, in the universe of the clinic in “hell” there are all those who are afraid. Voloshina’s play constitutes one out of a number of her works concerning the social and political situation in Russia. In the play, the author points to fear as the source of the viciousness of the collective consciousness. Voloshina raises a question that is characteristic of the post-Soviet space: the characters “hide from themselves and their fate”. Voloshina, however, leads them towards it.

Opis:
The article concerns the Thomistic philosophy present in the mainstream of Polish Roman-Catolic integrism, i.e. among the supporters and adherents of the Priestly Society of the Saint Pius X (FSSPX). The main aspects of this environment's activities were presented in terms of philosophical issues. The article is based on the latest publications and effects of this environment, based on the author's own research. As a result of research, it was found that Catholic traditionalists often refer to Thomistic philosophy, as recommended by popes and Christian philosophers in the 19th and the first half of the 20th century. According to the Catholic authors in Poland, advocating the pre-Vatican II tradition, Thomistic philosophy is not only a useful tool for expressing a realistic and religious vision of the world, but also an effective means of practicing apologetics for the traditionally understood Catholic vision of the world, man and society. The advantages of Thomism in this environment are: realism, objectivity, openness to divine revelation, respect for history, catholic holiness and supernaturalism. According to traditionalists, Thomism is the only perpetual philosophy and rescue against nihilism, subjectivism and individualism of our time, always recommended by popes.

Opis:
This article takes as its starting point the Greek term μεταξύ, a preposition meaning ‘between’, fi rst turned into a noun in Plato’s Symposium, and in that substantivized form adapted for their own ends by a number of 20th-century philosophers, most notably by Simone Weil. In her Gravity and Grace (French: La Pesanteur et la grâce) she defi nes le metaxu as in-betweenness, a social and metaphysical category which embraces all that connects and divides (as, for example, a wall that both separates two prisoners and can be used by them to tap messages). In this article Weil’s concept of metaxu is applied to the language and then to various readings of two of Wisława Szymborska’s poems, ‘Funeral’ and ‘Elegiac Calculation’. Pragmalinguistics and semantics, too, play a role in the interpretation of these poems.

Opis:
The moral reinterpretation of Jesus conducted by Kant, Lessing and Feuerbach, is an interesting matter when it comes to the philosophy of religion. The abovementioned German philosophers claimed that Jesus ought to be understood only as a moral archetype and a revolutionist in morality. This concept arose on the grounds of moral religion which was one of the most interesting ideas of the Enlightenment. Thus, exploring this moral reinterpretation of Jesus is just an excuse to study the concept of moral religion. Despite the fact that this idea is no longer current, it has immense influence on the contemporary philosophy of religion. Therefore, understanding the concept of moral religion can broaden the context of the contemporary discussion.
