Our paper deals with the establishment of the container settlements in Poland and the grassroots response to it: by the inhabitants and by political activists. In particular we are interested in how local authorities strategically frame housing issues to create social acceptance of diminishing standards of social housing in Poland and the involvement of the mainstream media in the process. We are focusing on strategies as well as tactical efforts to overcome structural and discursive opportunities emerging in the process of the anti- container campaign. Exclusionary discourse about the ‘container ghettos’ becomes a justification for local authorities to use social containers as tool of social and spatial segregation as well as to discipline communal tenants. In response of this process activists had to develop new diagnostic mobilizing frames and put considerable effort into frame alignment processes and forged new alliances with other actors. We analyze the campaign from the perspective of social movement studies, in particular structural theories of collective action. One side effect of such policies is unspoken racism, which we – after E. Balibar – interpret mostly in class terms aimed at the economically maladjusted. Empirically, our paper draws upon sociological intervention and 40 in-depth interviews with the inhabitants of the container settlements in Poland in 7 different cities conducted in 2008-2012; participant observations of the settlements and of the campaign against them due to personal involvement of one of the authors.

Opis:
This work describes the most important methods of isolating running processes of selected software on one physical machine without using full virtualization of the operating system. It includes a comparison of the basic components of each of the methods described, including the features and interface, as well as the results of performance testing in a test environment prepared for this purpose. Research is based on running an identical application and comparing the use of basic system resources, as well as the time of launching containers. It may also be important to compare the methods studied to classical virtualization. At the end of the work, conclusions are described that may be relevant when choosing a method in future projects depending on requirements and needs.
Niniejsza praca opisuje najważniejsze metody izolacji uruchomionych procesów wybranego oprogramowania na jednej maszynie fizycznej bez użycia do tego celu pełnej wirtualizacji systemu operacyjnego. Zawiera porównanie podstawowych składników każdej z opisanych metod, w tym cechy i interfejsu, a także wyniki badania wydajności w przygotowanym do tego celu środowisku testowym. Badania oparte są na uruchamianiu identycznej aplikacji i porównywaniu wykorzystania podstawowych zasobów systemowych, a także czasu uruchamiania kontenerów. Istotne jest tu również porównanie badanych metod do klasycznej wirtualizacji. Na końcu pracy opisane są wnioski, które mogą być istotne przy wyborze metody w przyszłych projektach w zależności od wymagań i potrzeb.

Opis:
The paper introduces the family of the algorithms designed to improve the process of winding up the long conveyor belt passages on reels located inside the bulk containers, used for i.e. rail transport. The proposed method provides the convenient storage technique of the long belt passages , enabling their transport on the standardized rail wagons. Presented solution also addresses the problems related with binding the smaller belt passages, such as shorter life span in comparison to the single-part belt. Moreover, the presented work contains not only the details of the two algorithms representative for the proposed method, but also the outlook of the system of the automatic control required for the successful application of the proposed technique.
Artykuł przedstawia rodzinę algorytmów zastosowanych do długich odcinków taśm przenośnikowych nawijanych na bębny w kasetach przystosowanych do transportu szynowego. Zaproponowana metoda przedstawia sposób gromadzenia długich odcinków taśm przenośnikowych na typowych wagonach kolejowych. Prezentowane rozwiązanie pozwala wyeliminować problemy związane z łączeniem krótkich odcinków taśm w całość. Ponadto w pracy przedstawiono oprócz dwóch dokładnych algorytmów proponowanej metody także pogląd na system automatycznego sterowania przedmiotowego rozwiązania.

New chapter 4, added to Annex VI of MARPOL convention, put into effect regulations on the ships ‘energy efficiency. It makes mandatory since 1st January 2013 the so called Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) for new ships and the Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP) for new and existing vessels of 400 gt and above. There is a huge space to save the energy, improve the ships’ efficiency and reduce the GHG emissions for the sea going ships such as container carriers are. The aspects presented in the paper are based on the contemporary container vessels with the state of the art technology implemented to their design and operational stage. The estimation of the electric power and number of diesel generators with use of the statistical tools is the main aim of the paper. The container vessels fitted only with the diesel generators without any other type of electric generator unit are taken into account in the calculation process. The electric power equation has been determined, applying the multiple regression model with an absolute term, based on the ship’s parameters for the entire range of the container vessels’ load capacity TEU. It shown, the reefer containers RC and the main propulsion rating SMCR are the most important parameters statistically significant. It is calculated as well how the total ship’s electric power is very strictly dependent on the number of diesel generators installed on board. The reefer containers’ number and its assumed power considering the cargo type and the simultaneity coefficient are also presented in the article, as this impact the electric power demand. The different types of Power Management Systems for diesel generators load are discussed at the last stage of the paper.

Over the last decade, the Baltic ports have welcomed a remarkable growth, especially oil transportation and containerised flows. The regional container network is mainly made up of feeders services. Consequently, Baltic ports as nodes of a regional maritime network are integrated into a larger system. Indeed, the port development and the evolution of maritime traffic are symptomatic of economic and territorial mutations. In this context, the Polish ports, Gdansk and Gdynia, were originally mainly connected to the Polish hinterland and Central European market. They are now becoming new transhipment ports for the regional traffic. It is especially the case for Gdansk which recorded considerable and continued growth in container traffic during the last years. The purpose of this paper is to analyse the activity of the polish container ports and examine their role and position in the Baltic and European container network. This study is based on a literature review and mainly on the analysis of a statistical database as well as using Automatic Identification System data.

Opis:
The paper concerns an aerobic microbiological process occurring in a bubble tank bioreactor. If the process is inhibited by a carbonaceous substrate, then the steady states characteristics obtained using models without biofilm indicates a danger of irreversible washout of the biomass. It was shown that taking into account the biofilm immobilized on bioreactor’s walls and proper design of the bioreactor can lead to disappearance of the region of the multiple steady-states, i.e. to disappearance of the turning point at the steady state branches. Therefore, the operation of the bioreactor is safe in a wide range of feed flow rates, even those leading to the washout of the biomass from the liquid phase. This property was called apparent elimination of inhibition phenomenon.

Celem artykułu jest pokazanie braków w infrastrukturze terminalowej służącej obsłudze transportu intermodalnego w Polsce oraz wskazanie lokalizacji nowych terminali. Zinwentaryzowano infrastrukturę terminalową i obliczono wskaźnik gęstości terminali kontenerowych według województw. Ponadto zbadano dostępność terminali – liczoną odległością drogową z ośrodka gminnego do najbliższego terminalu. W analizie uwzględniono terminale zagraniczne, których zasięg oddziaływania obejmował terytorium Polski. Przeprowadzone badania potwierdziły, że sieć terminali w Polsce jest wciąż niewystarczająca. Dodatkowo większość terminali ma niewielkie zdolności przeładunkowe. Infrastruktura tego typu koncentruje się w rejonie największych aglomeracji. Do największych miast położonych w znacznym oddaleniu od terminali kontenerowych należą m.in. Bydgoszcz i Białystok. Wskazano, że należy wesprzeć inwestycje w infrastrukturę terminalową na obszarach o słabej dostępności do tego typu obiektów.
The aim of the article was to indicate deficiencies in the terminal infrastructure used in intermodal transport in Poland and to indicate the location of new terminals. Terminals infrastructure has been inventoried and the density index of container terminals according to voivodships was calculated. Also, the availability of terminals has been examined – calculated by the distance from the commune centre to the nearest terminal. The analysis included foreign terminals whose scope of impact covered the territory of Poland. The conducted studies confirmed that the terminal network in Poland was still insufficient. In addition, most terminals had little transhipment capacity. Infrastructure of this type was concentrated in the area of the largest agglomerations. The largest cities located far away from container terminals were for example Bydgoszcz and Bialystok. It was indicated that investment in terminal infrastructure should be supported in areas with poor accessibility to such facilities.

During ship design, its service speed is one of the crucial parameters that determine its future operational profitability. As sufficiently exact calculation methods applicable to preliminary design stage are lacking, the so-called contract speed, the speed a ship reaches in calm water, is usually specified during the draft stage. The service speed obtainable by a ship under real weather conditions (mainly wind and waves) is one of the most important parameters influencing a ship’s profitability on a given shipping route. This paper presents a parametric model of calculating total ship resistance on a given shipping route under actual weather conditions (wind, waves, sea current), that could be useful in the initial design of container ships.

The article presents some aspects connected with transportation units simplifying the conduction of loading and unloading. The basic types of units have been characterized and attention was paid to the mutual compatibility and the possibility of combining loads, and, in addition, also some transportation processes, as well as logistic aspects connected with them, have been presented. The article also contains figures constituting a graphical illustration of the analyzed issues.

Clay pots were in antiquity the most popular kind of transport container for liquid goods (wine, olive oil etc.). In Egypt, the commonly used traditional amphoras were supplemented in the Islamic period by mostly unhandled bag-shaped bottles, which until recently did not seem to have been particularly frequent in the archaeological record. Meanwhile, excavations in Fustat and Naqlun produced quite a sizable assemblage of this kind of vessels. The paper presents a tentative typology of these containers and a provisional determination of the liquid goods transported in them. The author hypothesizes on the reasons behind the spectacular career of the bottle apparently inspired by vessels of the LRA 5/6 type, which totally replaced the traditional LRA 7 amphora within just a hundred or two hundred years. The most important factor in this process of change may have involved practical considerations (including economical ones).

The article presents selected issues related to safety transport of dangerous goods with detailed inspection services. Avoiding potential health risks associated with the transport of dangerous goods or hazardous substances is a top priority for all those involved. Companies using road, rail or water transport for the purposes of further processing or utilizing these substances have a responsibility to ensure. safe packaging, secure logistics concepts, traffic guidance and quality control strategies that reduce the threat to public safety. A large number of provisions must be complied with regarding the safe transport of dangerous goods, permit and authorization procedures, follow inspection dates, and monitor the efficient performance of transport operations.
W artykule przedstawiono wybrane zagadnienia związane z zapewnieniem bezpiecznego transportu towarów niebezpiecznych za pomocą szczegółowych usług inspekcyjnych. Unikanie potencjalnych zagrożeń dla zdrowia związanych z transportem towarów niebezpiecznych lub substancji niebezpiecznych jest priorytetem dla wszystkich zainteresowanych. Firmy korzystające z transportu drogowego, kolejowego lub wodnego w celu dalszego przetwarzania lub wykorzystania tych substancji mają obowiązek zapewnić. bezpieczne opakowanie, bezpieczne koncepcje logistyczne, wskazówki dotyczące ruchu i strategie kontroli jakości, które zmniejszają zagrożenie dla bezpieczeństwa publicznego. Należy przestrzegać dużej liczby przepisów dotyczących bezpiecznego transportu towarów niebezpiecznych z procedurami wydawania pozwoleń i zezwoleń, śledzić terminy kontroli, a także monitorować sprawne wykonywanie operacji transportowych.

The drinking of mineral waters at Ostrów Tumski in Poznań is evidenced by fragments of stoneware bottles with preserved signatures - findings registered during archaeological excavations. Most of the discovered fragments come from 19th century bottles. Only about a dozen items represent containers from the 18th century - a majority of those are probably pieces of seltzer water bottles. In the 19th century the inhabitants of this island in Poznań drank mineral waters from springs located on the territory of today's Germany (Bad Kissingen, Niederselters, Bad Friedrichshall, Bad Ems) and Czechia (Bylany/Male Brezno, Frantiskovy Lazne, Bilina, Zajecic, Marianske Lazne).

Metoda 5S pozwala na ustalenie stałego porządku na stanowiskach pracy, co poprawia efektywność pracy oraz bezpieczeństwo pracownika. Celem artykułu jest wykorzystanie metody 5S do usprawnienia stanowisk operatorów w wybranym przedsiębiorstwie produkcyjnym. Badania przeprowadzono w przedsiębiorstwie, które zajmuje się wytwarzaniem elementów z tworzyw sztucznych wykorzystując technologię wtrysku. Metoda 5S była wdrożona na stanowiskach operatorów wtryskarek, montażu oraz ich najbliższego otoczenia. Według przyjętych wytycznych sytuacja przed wprowadzeniem nowych rozwiązań dla zachowania porządku na miejscu pracy było w złym stanie. Natomiast wprowadzenie doskonalenia 5S pozwoliło na uzyskanie doskonałego poziomu zachowania czystości stanowiska. Potencjał do doskonalenia w znacznym stopniu został wykorzystany, jednak możliwe jest wprowadzenie dodatkowych zastosowań, które jednak nie wpłyną znacząco na efektywność pracy operatorów.
The 5S method allows to establish permanent order in the workplace, which improves efficiency of work and worker safety of employees. The purpose of this paper is to use the 5S method to improve the operators work stands in chosen manufacturing enterprise. The research was conducted in the enterprise, which deals with the production of plastic parts with use of the injection technology. 5S method was implemented in the work stands of injection moulding, assembly and their close environment. According to the adopted guidelines the situation before the introduction of new solutions for the preservation of order in the work place it was rather bad. In contrast, the introduction of the 5S improvement resulted in an excellent level of cleanliness position. The potential for improvement has largely been used, but it is possible to introduce additional applications, which, however, will not significantly affect the efficiency of the operators.

Container transport is the most popular type of sea shipping around the world. The share of reefers (refrigerated container) in the total number of containers transported is about 15%.The worldwide stock of refrigerated containers used for transportation of perishable goods is still growing, while the conventional reefer fleet is shrinking. Still, despite of clean advantages they also carry some risks. Difficult operating conditions of refrigerated containers instigate very high risk of malfunctions, including permanent damage. The majority of articles about refrigerated systems failures, focus mainly on the onshore ones. Publications describing damage of reefers are limited. Therefore, this article attempts to classify and analyze the most frequent failures of container`s refrigeration units. This issue is very important for the crew safety, natural environment and high quality product preservation. The data necessary to perform the analysis come from reports on units damaged over two years. The paper presents the characteristics of the packaging market in Poland. Was presented the essence and aspects involved in packaging, and the main functions of packaging. Defined the concept of packaging and are given legal regulations in accordance with the applicable rules on the need for policies to reduce waste resulting from the production of packaging. The article also indicated trends in the packaging innovation. The article presents the operating characteristics of Pol-Mare Sp. Ltd in the area of international security, transport of explosives and military equipment. Pol-Mare Ltd. It is a national leader in providing specialized freight forwarding services in land transport sea and air. The article shows the specificity of international carriage of cargoes in Poland.
