This article presents an emergent model of the conceptualization of strah (Fear) in Croatian with focus on the constructions derived from the container image schema coded by preposition u (in). the semantic and syntactic analysis of the collocations of lexeme strah demonstrates conceptual hierarchy of the activation of metonymic and metaphoric processes via syntactic organization and perspectivization. It is argued that the meaning of the lexeme strah is conceptualized by metonymic profiling sensory-motor correlates of affective states and by superimposing metaphorical mappings of objects, spatial relations, object/entities with thematic and agentive roles that are organized in an emergent system of respective ontological, spatial, thematic and agentive patterns of linguistic constructions.

Artykuł stanowi - z konieczności - syntetyczną prezentację wybranych zagadnień z szerokiego programu badawczego, którego celem jest opracowanie oryginalnej technologii sprężania i nasuwania konstrukcji mostowych. Badania rozpoczęto w KAP w 1992r. Są one współfinansowane przez KBN i KPRM SKANSKA. W ramach programu opracowano i wykonano urządzenia, systemy sterowania oraz utworzono Laboratorium Badań i Analiz Maszyn i Budowli. Opracowaną technologię zastosowano m.in. przy realizacji mostu Zwierzynieckiego i węzła Wielicka w Krakowie, estakady w Starachowicach, estakady Bracka DTŚ w Katowicach, wiaduktu Chabówka. Trwają intensywne prace badawcze nad systemami wantowymi oraz systemami sterowania sprężaniem przestrzennym obiektów mostowych.
The paper is - out of necessity - a concise presentation of issues selected out of broad research programme aimed at designing an orginal technology of compressing and sliding bridge structures. The research was started in KAP in 1992. They are co-finance by KBN and SKANSKA. Within the programme framework, devices and control system were designed and completed and the Laboratory for Machine and Buildings Tests and Analyses was established. The designed technology was applied in the execution of the Zwierzyniecki Bridge and the Wielicka road system in Krakow, the Starachowice overpass road, the DTŚ Bracka overpass in Katowice and the Chabówka viaduct. Intense research has been conductedover shroud systems and control systems for spatial compresing of bridge objects.

Light-verb constructions (Helbig 1977) are complex multi-word units that occur in almost every language and language variety. They are also definied as an integral part of the specialized languages and thus also of the business correspondence. The aim of the article is to show how the light verb constructions can cause linguistic politeness. The focus is on the achievements of the light verb constructions such as passivation, change of perspective and the indirectness of the speech act.

Jednym z błędów regularnie popełnianych przez Polaków mówiących i piszących po węgiersku jest nadużywanie wyrażeń z przydawkami dzierżawczymi. Wyrażenia tego typu bardzo często odpowiadają polskim konstrukcjom z przydawką dopełniaczową, nie są jednak ich jedynymi translatami. Możliwe są również następujące odpowiedniki: 1) wyrażenia z przydawką rzeczownikową w mianowniku (egy szelet kenyér), 2) wyrażenia z przydawką przymiotną zawierającą formant -(j)Ú (piros színű ruha), 3) wyrażenia z przydawką przymiotną zawierającą formant -i (árvaházi növendék), 4) złożenia (dandártábornok). Warunki, przy których zachodzi odpowiedniość typu 1 i 2, są łatwe do określenia, znacznie trudniej jest jednak wskazać reguły przekładowe odnoszące się do typów 3 i 4. Celem pracy jest próba ustalenia tych reguł.
The article discusses Hungarian translates of Polish genitive constructions. One of the mistakes regularly made by Poles speaking and writing in Hungarian is the excessive use of possessive constructions. Expressions of this kind very often correspond to the Polish genitive constructions; however, they are not their only translates. Other possible equivalents are: 1) constructions with a substantive attribute in the nominative case (egy szelet kenyér), 2) constructions with an adjectival attribute containing the derivational suffix -(j)Ú (piros színű ruha), 3) constructions with an adjectival attribute containing the derivational suffix -i (árvaházi növendék), 4) compounds (dandártábornok). Whereas it is not difficult to determine the conditions for the correspondences of types 1 and 2, the translational rules of types 3 and 4 are more complex. The aim of this article is to find and describe these rules.

The article presents the results of tests of impact properties of steel 1.3964 used on the construction of modern mine destroyers. Ships of this type, like any other military unit, may be exposed to small-calibre projectiles. Firing can be done, for example, from aircraft, drones or pirate units. The thickness of the plates used in the ship’s construction does not guarantee effective resistance to the projectile calibre 7.62 mm for all compartments of such ships. Thus, it is possible to modify the existing structure or apply additional solutions that will ensure a certain level of ballistic resistance. Solutions of this type are necessary in order to maintain the stability and buoyancy of the ship at the current level. During the tests, a stress-strain curve for steel 1.3964 was obtained, then the Johnson-Cook plasticity and damage model was proposed, which was used in the FEM simulation. The task was modelled as non-linear considering the deformation of both the sample and the projectile. The simulation was prepared in the CAE program, and then verified by an experiment on the shooting range. The results were presented in the form of diagrams and deformation figures, and were compared with photographs of samples and velocities after the specimen.

To zbiorowa monografia poświęcona prezentacji obrazu/figury dziecka w literaturze fikcyjnej i intymistycznej, literaturze dla dorosłych i dla dzieci, a także w podręcznikach, w teatrze, fotografii, kartach gratulacyjnych, malarstwie. Sposób ukazywania dziecka w przestrzeni sztuki zmienia się. Współcześnie portrety dziecka wahają się między reprezentacją a konstrukcją jego obrazu, ale zdaje się przeważać przekonanie twórców i świadomość odbiorców, że każdej prezentacji jest bliżej do kreacji niż do „mimetycznego odwzorowania”. Autorzy prezentują szeroki wachlarz ujęć, co omawianą książkę czyni ciekawą lekturą.
The article refers to the book Representations and Constructs of Childhood in the Literature and Culture of the 20th and 21st Centuries, edited by Alicja Dąbrowska, Robert Mielhorski and Beata Morzyńska-Wrzosek, Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Kazimierza Wielkiego, Bydgoszcz 2022. This is a collective monograph devoted to the presentation of the image/figure of the child in fictional and intimate literature, literature for adults and for children, as well as in textbooks, theatre, photography, congratulatory cards, and painting. The way the child is portrayed in the art space is changing. Contemporary portrayals of the child fluctuate between representation and construction of his or her image, but the conviction of the creators and the awareness of the audience that any presentation is closer to creation than to “mimetic representation” seems to prevail. The authors present a wide range of approaches, which makes the book under review an interesting read.

W artykule zaprezentowano wybrane rozwiązania konstrukcyjne budowli wodnych, takich jak: umocnienia, budowle regulacyjne, piętrzące i przepławki, wykonanych z naturalnych materiałów. Budowle te są niezbędne do regulacji warunków wilgotnościowych w dolinie oraz utrzymania koryt rzek zgodnie z zadaniami postawionymi danemu obiektowi. Są to konstrukcje, które można również wykorzystać w ramach ochrony czynnej na obiektach cennych przyrodniczo.
Selected designs of water constructions like: reinforcements, water lifting and regulating constructions and fish ladders made of natural materials are presented in this paper. These constructions are necessary to control water relations in a valley and to maintain river channels in accordance with requirements of a given object. The constructions might also be used in the protection of naturally valuable objects.

Der Beitrag befasst sich mit dem Problem einer eventuellen pleonastischen Deutung der Konstruktionen mit Partikel als Verbzusatz und einer damit semantisch und zum Teil formal korrespondierenden Präposition. Das Thema bildet einen Aspekt der lokalen Modifikation der Verben. Im Fokus der Analyse liegen die präpositionalen und adverbialen Verbpartikeln. Es handelt sich um trennbare Verben. Es wird die Einteilung in die Einzelpartikel und Doppelpartikel durchgeführt, wie auch auf deren morphologischen und semantischen Unterschied eingegangen. Der umstrittene Status des abtrennbaren Teils des Verbs wird auch besprochen. Die hier diskutierten Konstruktionen bestehen aus einer Präposition, die ein Ziel, einen Ausgangspunkt oder eine Strecke der Bewegung angibt, und aus einer Partikel, die die Richtung und den Bezugspunkt, von dem die Bewegung auskommt, nennt. Obwohl das Thema der Verbpartikeln breit behandelt worden ist, bleibt offen, welchen Status die Verbpartikeln und die Präpositionen in den Konstruktionen haben. Bringen solche Verbindungen wie auf den Berg hinauf steigen oder an die Tafel ankleben eine zusätzliche Information mit sich und sind fakultativ oder sind sie für das Verständnis der Lokalisierung nötig? Die Annahme, die Konstruktionen sind Pleonasmen, das heißt sinngleiche Wörter, wird im Aufsatz verworfen. Sowohl die Präposition wie auch die Verbpartikel haben ihre semantische Funktion.
The article deals with the problem of a possible pleonastic interpretation of the constructions with particle as verb adjunct and a preposition semantically and partly formally corresponding with it. The topic concerns one aspect of the local modification of verbs. The focus of the analysis is on prepositional and adverbial verb particles. They are separable verbs. The classification into single particles and double particles is carried out, as well as their morphological and semantic difference is discussed. The controversial status of the separable part of the verb is also discussed. The constructions discussed here consist of a preposition that indicates a goal, starting point, or distance of the movement, and a particle that names the direction and reference point from which the movement originates. Although the topic of verb particles has been treated broadly, what status verb particles and prepositions have in constructions remains open. Do such compounds as climb up the mountain or stick to the blackboard bring additional information and are optional, or are they necessary for understanding localization? The assumption that the constructions are pleonasms, that is, words with the same meaning, is rejected in the article. Both the preposition and the verb particle have their semantic function.

In order to assess the sustainability of buildings with different types of insulating assemblies in the Latvian climate, a long-term test building monitoring experiment has been underway since 2013. There are a total of five test buildings on site with roughly six years' worth of accumulated temperature and humidity readings in the key parts of assemblies. This study is meant to quantify the mould presence in building walls, floor and ceiling by performing laboratory tests, assessing the number of colony-forming units, and comparing the results with mould risk predictions due to the isopleth model developed by Sedlbauer, using both the hygrothermal data derived from the sensors within buildings and the output of numerical simulations in WUFI Pro 6.3, a commercial software package. The analysis indicated good agreement between the lab tests and mould risk assessment using the data sets from the sensors, validating the applicability of the Sedlbauer model to the Latvian climate, while the comparisons between the numerically obtained forecasts and experimental data revealed dissimilarities that are largely due to imprecisions in material models and initial conditions.

Travelling off the road requires an adequate vehicle. The basic car needs to be properly chosen and prepared according to its destination. Due to understanding problem, the paper explains differences between various kinds of four-wheeling like extreme passage rally, time race or just off-road expeditions. The paper contains classification and description of the most popular in western Europe terrain cars, their construction solutions and general advantages and disadvantages. In the document are also presented vehicle selection criteria. This issue is as significant as proper choice of adequate driving type. Established criteria relate to variety and power of engines, four wheel drive, reduction gearbox, differential locks, weight, and the most important geometric and operation parameters. Due to above features is made the comparison and choice of car for further development. The review, evaluation and selection of building elements are customized to chosen car. Project of development of interior contains construction assumptions, strength calculations and numerical model of the drawer located in the rear of the luggage. Additionally there are also drawings of arrangement of particular body elements. Graphical model, drawings and strengths calculations are performed using the Autodesk Inventor Professional 2011 and AutoCAD Mechanical 2011. Just as the chosen equipment, project is adjusted to dimensions of luggage area of chosen car. Author’s design includes original spacing between the openings in exterior, what allows embedding drawer without any interference in the car body.

The aim of this study was to develop urethane elastomers of predefined properties to be used as elastic coating in the cargo tanks of tankers. A method for coating the liquid polyurethane system onto steel and steel-concrete elements, and a way to join polyurethane coating with the aforementioned elements, were elaborated. The technique of injection the reactive liquid polyurethane system onto cold steel elements was used. The method for utilization and recovery of urethane oligomerols from the waste polyurethane coating in chemical recycling by using low molecular weight glycols as glycolysis agents was proposed.

Selected realized technological solutions of special engineering geodesy problems in the field of testing the building constructions and materials are presented in the article. The technological procedure of bridge supporting piers tilt precise measurement at Jezernice viaduct by means of the vault supports horizontal shift measurement in course of the loading test is described . Further the technology of deformation measurement of small specially strengthened vaults in course of destructive static loading tests, and also the methodology of long time deformation surveying of specially strengthened panel elements and the HEA steel profiles deformation surveying are presented, the results of which supply the data for the qualitative analyses by strength testing.

In the paper the authors deal with the issue of the perception of people with disabilities by people working as their assistants. They compare two assistance programs for people with disabilities – the program of the city of Warsaw and the program of the Office for People with Disabilities at the University of Warsaw. The authors show that in the assistants’ statements one can find three images of “strangeness” of people with disabilities and analyze in details their content. Only one of them is a picture showing a social inclusion, and two others – although they seem to be positive – create distance between people with disabilities and the rest of society.

The starting point of this project is the fact that we are constantly “under the influence of someone else”. From an early age, our perception of reality is shaped by the environment (community) in which we live, i.e. by our parents, friends, teachers, but also by the so-called mass media. Opinion-forming is undoubtedly deliberately instrumentalised through the implementation of a strategy aimed at obtaining the approval of its receiver. This paper deals with the noun-preposition [N PP] construction in Croatian and compares the construction to its counterparts in English and French. Noun – preposition relations are analyzed as grammatical relations which participate in the formation of the lexicon, i.e. as grammatical devices which are productively used as lexicalization patterns. Based on the corpus analysis, [N PP] constructions in Croatian are identified and contrasted to English and French data. Lexical status of multi-word units in Croatian is discussed, as well as the level of idiomaticity of these constructions as compared to English and French. Whereas French and Croatian employ a similar lexicalization pattern, English uses compounding. The lexicon – grammar continuum is thus observed from the perspective of syntactic structures participating in word-formation.

Opis:
The present paper comments on signs of American Sign Language in the perspective of relevance theory. The main claim is that classifiers encode procedural instructions to help the addressee pick out the intended referent for the procedural referring expressions made with classifier constructions. The author explains how three classes of classifiers differently manipulate concepts to instruct the addressee to create ad hoc concepts though the use of inference, narrowing, and broadening. It is also claimed that classifier constructions do not encode a conceptual meaning, but a procedural instruction. The discussion includes illustrations of how the speaker’s using classifier constructions instead of lexical signs may increase the number of cognitive effects on the part of the addressee.

The author of the article reconstructs the various concepts of femininity in the fable Red Riding Hood. The main thesis is related to conviction that fables including Red Riding Hood are the fieldof specificcrystallization of culture uncertainity. In the case of Red Riding Hood competing interpretations of meanings are deconstructed. One can give here as an example the feminist understanding of Red Riding Hood, postmodern approach to this fascinating heroine and power girl related thinking, as well as psychoanalytic concepts. So in the seemingly naïve and banal fable various version of femininity and feminine sexuality can be discovered.

Opis:
The paper presents a review of seismic structural interventions applied to historical masonry buildings, as they were developed and/or tested at the University of Padova. Safeguard of historical buildings from the seismic risk is a difficult task regarding first the prevention, and then the whole process from building assessment through design and execution of interventions. The adoption of the same classes of predictive models developed for new constructions can mislead about the real behaviour of the structures, and can bring to the choice of useless or even harmful interventions for their seismic protection as outlined in the Italian guidelines. The recent seismic events confirmed limits and consequences of some type of interventions, concurrently corroborated also by extensive experimental researches, but also the effectiveness of new methods based on the use of both traditional and innovative materials and techniques.
Artykuł przedstawia przegląd antysejsmicznych interwencji konstrukcyjnych, odnoszących sił do historycznych budynków murowanych, jakie były opracowane i / lub testowane na Uniwersytecie w Padwie. Zabezpieczenie historycznych budynków przed zagrożeniem sejsmicznym jest trudnym zadaniem uwzględniającym najpierw zapobieganie,a następnie cały proces, od oceny budynku poprzez projektowanie i wykonanie interwencji. Adaptowanie tych samych kategorii modeli przewidujących,jakie opracowano dla nowych budynków, może być mylące, jeżli chodzi o prawdziwe zachowanie sił konstrukcji, i może doprowadzić do wyboru bezużytecznych lub nawet szkodliwych interwencji dla sejsmicznej ochrony budynków, jak nakreólono we włoskich zaleceniach. Niedawne wydarzenia sejsmiczne potwierdziły ograniczenia i konsekwencje niektórych typów interwencji, jednocześnie potwierdzone również przez obszerne badania doświadczalne,ale potwierdziły równieo skuteczność nowych metod, bazujących na zastosowaniu zarówno tradycyjnych,jak i nowatorskich materiałów i technik.

The work is concerned with principles of design of "intelligent" sets of springs with a priori determined structure (the so called differential set of springs). Certain interesting properties can be obtained in such sets considering the termal influence of the environment. These properties enable realisation of the selfcompensation function or even amplification of loading applied to the set in higher and varying temperatures, and to create the drive function of the linear motor while producing pulsatory temperatures changes. The problem of loading selfcompensation has been solved considering the temperature changes of the shear modulus or the stress relaxation. The drive function enables one to apply the differential set of springs together with the spring made of shape memory alloy (SMA) to create a unique linear pulse micromotor. The SMA spring, activated thermally, operates as an actuator assuring pulse changes of the deflection in the differential set. These changes together with the undirectional mechanism constitute the principle of operation of the micromotor robot that moves inside a tube).
"Inteligentne konstrukcje" spężyn. Przedmiotem pracy są podstawy projektowania "inteligentnej konstrukcji" zespołu spężyn o określonej a priori strukturze tzw. różnicowego układu sprężyn. W tych zespołach można ukształtować interesujące właściwości przy cieplnym oddziaływaniu środowiska. Umożliwiają one realizację funkcji samokompensacji, a nawet wzmocnienia, obciążenia zespołu w podwyższonych i zmiennych temperaturach oraz funkcję napędu silnika liniowego przy wywołaniu pulsacyjnych zmian temperatury. Rozwiązano zadania samokompensacji obciążenia przy oddziaływaniu na sprężyny zespołu zjawiska zmian temperaturowych modułu sprężystości lub zjawiska relaksacji naprężeń. Funkcja napędowa pozwala zastosować analizowany zespół różnicowy ze spężyną z pamięcią kształtu SMA do budowy oryginalnego pulsacyjnego mikrosilnika liniowego. Aktywowana termicznie lub elektrycznie sprężyna SMa jest aktuatorem, zapewniającym pulsacyjne zmainy ugięcia w zespole różnicowym, które wraz z mechanizmem jednokierunkowym tworzą zasadę działania mikrosilnika (robota poruszającego się we wnętrzu rury).

Opis:
Increased riverbed erosion could recently be observed in close vicinity of hydrotechnical constructions in many lowland rivers. The immediate effect of erosion in this case is a very significant reduction of the riverbed level over a considerable distance, downstream of large reservoir dams. This process is influenced simultaneously by both hydraulics of river flow and geotechnical properties of soil eroded. The paper presents an analysis of parametric changes in the level of river bottom and grain size of bed material, and the relative density in the context of changes in hydrological conditions and diversity of engineering-geological conditions. As the result, a multiparametric model of erosional potential of riverbed sediments has been proposed, which can significantly help in proper planning of locations and construction of correction thresholds under given hydraulic conditions of the river.

The semantically fine-grained ditransitive constructions in Mandarin Chinese show complex interaction between lexical semantics, constructional semantics and syntactic frames. This study examines the acquisition process of the syntax as well as the semantics of these constructions by launching two experiments with French leaners of Chinese. The experiment results reveal a ‘syntax-before-semantics’ learning process and the important role of input in implicit learning.

This article describes a measuring method used for monitoring deformations in wooden grating mining casings. It is intended, in particular, to determine the degree of deflection of load-bearing elements in relation to their original position. It was prepared especially to supplement the technical evaluation of wooden supporting casings in historic mines, underground sections of tourist routes, tunnels etc. The primary reason for the development of this problem were the designs prepared in recent years for large-scale grating constructions at Wieliczka Salt Mine and those for their reconstructions (strengthenings). The article describes the assumptions for the method proposed as well as the measurement system prepared. At Wieliczka Salt Mine two chambers with grating casings were selected and these were equipped with measuring devices. This paper presents the characteristics of these structures, the distribution of the devices installed and the course of the measuring process.

Many research works have been carried out on focus construction in Yoruba and its dialects. These works include the comparison between the focus construction in Yoruba language and the dialects of Yoruba, a comparison between the focus construction in one dialect of Yoruba and the others. But no attention is paid to the comparison between the focus construction in Yorùbá and Èbìrà languages. Findings reveal that despite the fact that Yorùbá and Èbìrà languages belong to two different language families, there are some similarities between their focus constructions. However, the similarities between the two languages are noticed in the dialect of Yorùbá such as Oǹdó dialect. This forms the basis of the discussion in this paper. The data collection relies on the informants who are the native speakers of Òkené (a sub-dialect of Èbìrà language) and Oǹdó dialect (a sub-dialect of Yorùbá language). The informants are between ages 65-70 and have spent their lifetime in their dialect communities. Descriptive approach is adopted for the data analysis.
