Vietnam
Opis:
The Hoanh Bo Basin has developed over multiple periods since the Miocene period in association with the tectonic activity of the Chi Linh-Hon Gai and Trung Luong Faults. The basin is filled with Neogene continental sediments, comprising mainly polymictic conglomerates, sandstones, siltstones, claystones, and shales. Coarser-grained polymictic deposits predominate along the northern and western margins of the basin, whereas different types of siltstones, claystones, and sandstones occur in its centre, as well as along its southern and eastern parts, toward the Ha Long Bay. The conglomerates and sandstones are composed mainly of quartz and sedimentary rock fragments, and a small amount of mica. Cement is mainly built of iron-oxide, clay or carbonate mud. The source area for the Hoanh Bo Basin sediments was located in the close vicinity of the basin. It was built of strongly weathered rocks of the Hon Gai, Ha Coi, Cat Ba Formations.

Opis:
Palaeomagnetic study has been carried out to resolve the controversy over the age and origin of the massive breccia body exposed in Wietrznia Quarry in the Holy Cross Mountains. The breccia studied consists of variously sized angular fragments of Frasnian and Fammenian limestone and shale infilling a palaeodepression within Frasnian limestone. Forthis purpose, the conglomerate test has been applied that enables determination of the relative age of remanence components and formation of the breccia. Palaeomagnetic analysis of breccia clasts reveals the presence of two characteristic components of magnetization. The observed components are akin to those previously described from in situ rocks at Wietrznia Quarry and from other Devonian carbonates from the Holy Cross Mountains. Such components have been interpreted as early synfolding and postfolding over prints of Viséan and Early Permian age. The palaeomagnetic conglomerate test performed in this study are positive results, indicating that the breccia postdates both components. This implies that the breccia is not of synsedimentary character and postdates Variscan de formation.

Opis:
The sediments of the Cretaceous Gyeokpori Formation in south-western South Korea accumulated in a lake in which mainly siliciclastic rocks were deposited, with some interbedded volcaniclastics. The nearby volcanic activity resulted in unstable lake margins inducing a dominance of gravity-flow deposits. The high sedimentation rate facilitated soft-sediment deformation on the sloping margin. The deposition of numerous gravity-flow deposits resulted in a vertically heterolithic stratification. The slumps are composed of different lithologies, which is expressed in different types of deformation due to the difference in cohesion between sandy and mussy layers within the slumps. Coarser-grained (cohesionless) slumps tend to show more chaotic deformation of their lamination or layering. The difference in slumping behaviour of the cohesive and non-cohesive examples is explained and modelled. A unique soft-sediment deformation structure is recognized. This structure has not been described before, and we call it ‘envelope structure’. It consists of a conglomerate mass that has become entirely embedded in fine-grained sediment because slope failure took place and the fine-grained material slumped down with the conglomerate ‘at its back’. The cohesive laminated mudstone formed locally slump folds that embedded the non-cohesive overlying conglomerate unit, possibly partly due to the bulldozing effect of the latter. This structure presumably can develop when the density contrast with the underlying and overlying deposits is exceptionally high. The envelope structure should be regarded as a special – and rare – type of a slumping-induced deformation structure.

Opis:
Monazite-(Ce) is a widespread accessory mineral in granitic cobbles of the Krivá type (Zástranie and Krivá localities) in polymict conglomerates of Cretaceous flysch sequences, the Pieniny Klippen Belt, Western Carpathians, NW Slovakia. The granites show leucocratic muscovite-biotite granodiorite composition and peraluminous calc-alkaline, S-type character. The monazite contains unusually high U, commonly 1 to 3, and in some places up to 6.6 wt.% UO2, together with 5 to 7.7 wt.% ThO2. A cheralite-type substitution [Ca(U,Th)REE–2 is the dominant mechanism of U4+ + Th4+ incorporation into the monazite structure in the Zástranie sample, whereas both cheralite- and huttonite-type substitution [(Th,U)SiREE–1P–1] are evident in the Krivá granitic cobble. Uranium alone prefers the CaU4+(REE)–2 mechanism, whereas Th favours the huttonite substitution. The chemical U-Th-Pb dating of monazite from both granitic cobbles show an Early Carboniferous age (346 ± 2 Ma), which is consistent with the main meso-Variscan, orogen-related plutonic activity in the Central Carpathian area (Tatric and Veporic superunits). Analogous U-rich monazites were detected in some Variscan S-type leucogranites of the Rimavica massif (South Veporic Unit) and the Bojná and Bratislava massifs (northern part of the Tatric Unit). On the basis of structural and palaeogeographic data, the North Tatric Zone is the most plausible source of the monazite-bearing granitic boulders in the Pieniny Klippen Belt. However, the source granitic body was most likely hidden by ensuing tectonic shortening along the northern Tatric edge after deposition of the Coniacian–Santonian Upohlav type conglomerates.

The Mała Łąka Fault in the Tatra Mts. is a synsedimentary normal fault responsible for the variable thickness of Eocene deposits in the area. Its main activity took place in the interval from the sedimentation of red conglomerates to the appearance of nummulitic limestones. The estimated throw is up to 350 m. Near the northern margin of the Tatra Mts., the trend of the fault changes from N.S to NE.SW. This part of the fault could have been activated during the Neogene uplift of the Tatra Mts. and rejuvenated as a sinistral fault. In the upper reach of the Mała Łąka Stream, the fault trend does not follow the course of the Mała Łąka Valley. Here, the flowing stream waters used extensional fractures within a damage zone associated with the Mała Łąka Fault rather than the lithological boundary at the tectonic contact between the Triassic dolomites and the Eocene conglomerates. The fault has a hingelike character; its hinge was located in the present-day Kościeliska Valley, c. 2.5 km west of the Mała Łąka Valley.

Opis:
This article presents the position of the European Financial Congress in relation to the European Commission’s consultation document on the supplementary supervision of credit institutions, insurance undertakings and investment firms in a financial conglomerate. From 9th June till 20th September 2016, the EC ran a public consultation on the evaluation of the financial conglomerate directive (FICOD), whether it delivers on its objective to identify and manage group risks, i.e. multiple gearing, excessive leveraging of capital, contagion, complexity management, concentration and conflict of interest. Financial conglomerates were originally represented by bancassurance. Over time financial institutions have expanded into investment banking, asset management and other financial activities, with separate segment supervisions. Now, they are getting bigger, more complex and international, expanding into the real economy, outsourcing critical processes to non-regulated external offshore companies. Moreover, manufacturing companies are developing competencies in banking area and traditional financial institutions are being challenged by expanding fintech projects. The evaluation of supplementary supervision shall lead to better regulation in terms of relevance, effectiveness, efficiency, coherence and added value. As a result, the legislation shall contribute to enhanced financial stability, safeguard creditors’ and policyholders’ interests, and promote the competitiveness of financial conglomerates within the EU and at international level. From the Polish perspective, FICOD shall protect the financial system from the import of group risks and lead to secure growth of local financial conglomerates, enjoying a level playing field in the EU. The EC consultation paper was addressed by representatives of different groups of stakeholders in the Polish financial market, including in particular: universal banks, auto loan companies, insurance undertakings, regulatory bodies, consulting firms and academia.

Opis:
Coal-bearing conglomerates occur in the Menilite Formation of the Silesian Unit, outcropped in the village of Kobielnik. Coal particles are angular and differ in size (2 mm-6 cm). The examined coal shows rather predominance of vitrinite (collotelinite, collodetrinite, vitrodetrinite). However, the presence of inertinite (fusinite, semifusinite and inertodetrinite with rather accessory funginite and secretinite) is also significant. However, liptinite (sporinite, cutinite and resinite) also indicates its presence in the maceral composition. The results of both coal petrographic and palynologcal analyses were conducted with the intention of applying them to reconstruct environments of coalformation. Palynological studies revealed palynofacies consisting mainly of black palynoclasts ofrectangle or oval shape. Miospores are abundant and various in colour-from yellow to dark brown. The miospore assemblage is dominated by Lycospora and several other Carboniferous genera occur there. The presence of Radiizonates aligerens (Knox) Staplin, Jansonius, the guide species to the lower part of the Westphalian A (Langsettian) indicate that at least part of the coal pieces come from this part of the Pennsylvanian. The age position of the whole miospore assemblage should be determined as the Late Bashkirian-Moscovian (Westphalian). Additionaly, some older miospores, usually dark in colour, were found in this assemblage and they are considered as reworked.

Przypadki niewłaściwego zachowania tych konglomeratów prowadzą do erozji zaufania do banków. Taka sytuacja rodzi pytanie, czy współczesne banki nadal mogą cieszyć się statusem instytucji zaufania publicznego.
Traditionally banks have been considered as conservative institutions which operate in a stable environment. But now the situation is different. Factors such as disintermediation, deregulation, and globalization have changed the banking sector. Nowadays, large diversified financial conglomerates play dominant role in it. This conglomerates behave in many aspects not as traditional banks. The cases of misbehaviour lead to erosion public trust in these institutions. Such situation raises the question of whether banks can be still treated as institutions of the public trust.

The Upper Carboniferous polymictic Balinka Conglomerate was deposited along the western margin of the Boskovice Basin (eastern part of the Bohemian Massif). Angular aggregates of deep-green chromium-rich interstratified clay mineral R1-illite(0.8)/smectite (I/S) are present exclusively in the basal part of this unit. The textural position of chromium-bearing I/S (0.77–2.88 wt.% Cr2O3; 0.040–0.153 apfu Cr) in the conglomerate matrix indicates a genetic link with the highly altered chromium spinel, which is preserved in the relics. The source of Cr-rich spinelides was serpentinized peridotites in the adjacent Moldanubicum (Gföhl Unit). The formation of I/S is related to diagenetic processes in the conglomerate matrix. The fluids would have relatively high fugacity of CO2 and activity of K+. K/Ar ages of 284.1 ± 7.7 and 276.3 ± 7.4 Ma (lower Permian – Kungurian/Artinskian age) confirmed the diagenetic origin of this I/S.

A transgression of the Tethys Ocean occurred in east central Iran, like in other areas of the Tethys Ocean, around the Yakhtashian/Bolorian (regional chronostratigraphical units corresponding with the Artinskian/Kungurian of the Early Permian) transition. This led to the development of a carbonate platform that is represented in the Shirgesht area on the northern part of the Tabas Block by the Bagh-e-Vang Formation, which constitutes the only known sedimentary unit from the late Early Permian in Iran. Field data and thin-section analysis indicate deposition on a carbonate ramp with barriers separating a lagoonal area with intertidal mud flats from the open-marine environment. The overall transgres-sive development is indicated by the presence of open-marine sediments on top of the barrier and lagoonal sediments.

Opis:
Some limestone breccias and conglomerates from the Furongian (Late Cambrian) Chaomidian Formation (Shandong Province, China) were investigated in order to understand the depositional and deformational processes induced by storms. The sediments under study occur in a hummocky cross-stratified peloidal grainstone layer. The limestone conglomerates consist of well-rounded clasts that are mostly flat-lying or imbricated, and have erosional bases. They formed by surface reworking (erosion and rip-up) of thin-bedded grainstones by storm waves and currents. The limestone breccias consist of subangular to subrounded clasts of grainstone, which are often associated with small-scale grainstone clastic dykes. The breccias and dykes resulted from subsurface soft-sediment deformation (i.e., differential liquefaction and fluidization of heterogeneously cemented carbonate grains), most likely triggered by storm-wave loading. The limestone breccias and conglomerates bear important implications for understanding the reworking mechanisms of storms on ancient carbonate platforms.

The paper aims at analyzing and assessing the processes of capital consolidation that have occurred within the banking sector from 2007 to 2018 in Poland. The main goal of the paper is to verify both the scale and the character of the processes of capital consolidation within the Polish banking sector. It is argued that the capital consolidation was intensifying after the global economic crisis. But the capital consolidation that occurs in Poland is based on foreign capital. Polish investors plunge into those processes when financial support is provided by the state. The paper emphasizes strong expectations as to the consolidation within global economy that will also impact on further changes in proprietary structure within the Polish banking sector.

Opis:
This study investigated residual landforms developed within of the flysch bedrock in the Outer Western Carpathians as sand-stone-to-conglomeratic tors. The studied relic rocky forms are locally exposed on the valley slopes in the top and plateau parts of the Sile-sian Beskid Mts. The cognitive values of such relic landforms, especially in the context of their morphogenetic traits and shaping of their macro- and microrelief, are well known and described. In contrast to epigenetic processes, the sedimentological aspect of the origin of such siliciclastic rocky deposits is still subject to different approaches in terms of terminology and interpretation. Thus, the aim of this study is to describe the conditions of environmental settings and character of the sediment transport and deposition processes from gravity flows, and to present a depositional system model for such a variety of flysch deposits. This study also attempts to present geotourist and geoed-ucational attractiveness of the tors against the background of regional geodiversity, geoheritage, and geoprotection. The results yielded a synthetic morpho-litho-sedimentological and geotouristic specification of the rocky forms analysed. The residual rocky landforms are polygenic geomorphological elements developed as a consequence of multistage and different scale of morph-forming activity operating on the basis of litho-sedimentological and tectonic assumptions under the influence of denudation processes.

W rezultacie przedstawiono w ujęciu syntetycznym specyfikację morfologiczną, litologiczną, sedymentologiczną i geoturystyczną badanych form skałkowych. Ostańcowe skałkowe formy terenu stanowią poligeniczne elementy geomorfologiczne rozwinięte w następstwie wieloetapowej i różnoskalowej działalności rzeźbotwórczej zachodzącej w utworach o określonych uwarunkowaniach litologiczno-sedymentologicznych i tektonicznych za pośrednictwem procesów denudacji.
