    Herman Cappelen w książce Fixing language (2018) zaproponował projekt w ramach inżynierii pojęciowej, w myśl którego to, co rewidujemy w pojęciach, to ich intensja i ekstensja. Podjął on polemikę z koncepcjami w inżynierii pojęciowej, zgodnie z którymi przy rewizji odwołujemy się do funkcji i celów. W pierwszej części artykułu opisuję wspomnianą dyskusję. W realizacji tego zamiaru korzystam z odwołań do artykułu Amie Thomasson „A Pragmatic Method for Normative Conceptual Work” (2020). Następnie podejmuję próbę obrony stanowisk odwołujących się przy rewizji pojęciowej do funkcji i celów. W tym celu odnoszę się do artykułu Michaela Prinzinga „The Revisionist’s Rubic: Conceptual Engineering and Discontinuity Objection” (2018). W drugiej części artykułu opisuję metodę eksplikacji jako jedną z metod, za której pomocą dokonuje się rewizji pojęciowej. Zwracam uwagę na eksplikacje stosowaną przez Quine’a, który proponuje skupić się przy eksplikacji na funkcjach, jakie pełnią pojęcia.
    Herman Cappelen in his book Fixing language (2018) proposed a project within conceptual engineering according to which what we revise in concepts is their intension and extension. He undertook a polemic with the ideas in concept engineering according to which we appeal to functions and purposes when revising. In the first part of this paper I describe the aforementioned discussion. In doing so, I refer to Amie Thomasson’s article “A Pragmatic Method for Normative Conceptual Work” (2020). Next, I attempt to defend positions that refer to functions and purposes in conceptual revision. For this purpose, I refer to Michael Prinzing’s article „The Revisionist’s Rubic: Conceptual Engineering and Discontinuity Objection” (2018). In the second part of the article, I intend to describe the method of explication as one of the methods by which we perform conceptual revision. I turn my attention to the explication used by Quine. He proposes to focus when explicating on what function a concept serves.

    Tekst stanowi próbę ukazania potrzeby stosowania inżynierii pojęciowej oraz jej kompetencji na terenie teorii organizacji i zarządzania (OMT). Autor broni poglądu, iż konsekwentne stosowanie założeń inżynierii pojęciowej na terenie OMT pozwala podnosić jej standardy pojęciowo-teoretyczne, co w konsekwencji może pozytywnie wpływać na naukowe i praktyczne walory dyscypliny. Krytyczna analiza wybranych przykładów konceptualizacji z zakresu teorii działań rutynowych (która jest istotną częścią OMT) pozwala wysnuć wniosek, że stosowanie inżynierii pojęciowej na gruncie OMT pełni podobne funkcje dla jej standardów teoretycznych, co konsekwentne realizowanie założeń metodologii badań empirycznych dla standardów nauk o zarządzaniu na poziomie empirii.
    The text is an attempt at showing the need of conceptual engineering (and its competences) on the terrain of Organization and Management Theory (OMT). The author defends the view that consistent use of conceptual engineering on the area of OMT allows to improve its conceptual-theoretical standards. This may positively affect its scientific and practical qualities. A critical analysis of selected examples of conceptualization in theory of organizational routines (important part of OMT) brings the following conclusion: the role of the use of conceptual engineering in OMT for its theoretical standards is similar to the role of compliance to methodology of inquiry for the overall empirical dimension of management sciences.

    This paper reassesses the criticism of the Lucas-Penrose anti-mechanist argument, based on Gödel’s incompleteness theorems, as formulated by Krajewski (2020): this argument only works with the additional extra-formal assumption that “the human mind is consistent”. Krajewski argues that this assumption cannot be formalized, and therefore that the anti-mechanist argument – which requires the formalization of the whole reasoning process – fails to establish that the human mind is not mechanistic. A similar situation occurs with a corollary to the argument, that the human mind allegedly outperforms machines, because although there is no exhaustive formal definition of natural numbers, mathematicians can successfully work with natural numbers. Again, the corollary requires an extra-formal assumption: “PA is complete” or “the set of all natural numbers exists”. I agree that extra-formal assumptions are necessary in order to validate the anti-mechanist argument and its corollary, and that those assumptions are problematic. However, I argue that formalization is possible and the problem is instead the circularity of reasoning that they cause. The human mind does not prove its own consistency, and outperforms the machine, simply by making the assumption “I am consistent”. Starting from the analysis of circularity, I propose a way of thinking about the interplay between informal and formal in mathematics.
