This article provides, first, a review of applications of the ecosystem idea in different computational intelligence methods. The article presents the bases of ecosystem operation and a new concept for modelling the phenomena occurring in an ecosystem, with the aim of using these for optimization purposes. The author’s original form of the Artificial Ecosystem Algorithm (AEA) and its constituent parts are presented. The construction of the proposed algorithm was dedicated for continuous optimisation. The operation of the Artificial Ecosystem Algorithm is also compared with an Evolutionary Algorithm and PSO for six test functions for various numbers of variables. Conclusions concerning operation, structure and complexity of AEA are provided at the end.

Injection molding can undoubtedly be regarded as one of the most widely used manufacturing processes for polymers (Guevara-Morales & Figueroa-Lopez, 2014). Furthermore, injection molding has found its way into various branches of industry (Fernandez et al., 2018) since it has several essential advantages over other processing techniques in terms of good surface finish, the ability to process complex parts without the need for secondary operations, and low cost for mass production. In order to find optimal process settings, it is necessary to gain a deeper insight into the filling process and the underlying physical phenomena, as well as a thorough understanding of the complex material behavior. In this context, the numerical simulation of the injection molding process is increasingly important. Therefore, the current contribution is dedicated to present a thorough comparative numerical study for the mold filling of an exemplary thin-walled mold geometry, including a realistic non-Newtonian viscosity model for the polymer melt. For the numerical simulation, the authors employ the commercial CFD software packages Cadmould 3D-F and ANSYS CFX. While ANSYS CFX is a well-established CFD software for numerical modelling of multiphysical phenomena, Cadmould 3D-F is a highly specialized and computationally efficient alternative suitable for certain geometric configurations in the context of injection molding. The present study is new in the sense that it demonstrates the equivalence of the considered software packages for the simulation of the injection molding process in thin-walled mold geometries.

The quadratic performance index in a fixed rectangle for the Roesser model of two-dimensional, linear, stationary, discrete systems is considered. Using a method of transformation for the System and the performance index, the problem of finding the optimal sequence of control vectors is solved by a method of mathematical programming. The simple numerical example illustrates the presented method.

Opis:
The problem of asymptotic stability of models of 2D continuous-discrete linear systems is considered. Computer methods for investigation of asymptotic stability of the Fornasini-Marchesini type and the Roesser type models, are given. The methods proposed require computation of the eigenvalue-loci of complex matrices. Effectiveness of the stability tests are demonstrated on numerical examples.

This paper aims to present a general view of flow problems in turbomachinery and the current levels of numerical methods for solving these problems. The flow models used for modelling phenomena in blade cascades are presented. Models of turbulence are discussed. A variety of examples of turbomachinery problems, such as steady, unsteady, multiphase and multicomponent flows, and also blade cooling are described. The actual research fields of computational fluid mechanics are presented.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań eksperymentalnych uzyskanych w czasie fizycznych symulacji zderzenia czołowo-bocznego samochodów osobowych tej samej marki i modelu. W kolejnych testach zderzeniowych zmieniano miejsce uderzenia bocznego. W każdym teście wyznaczano wartości parametrów ruchu pojazdów na początku ruchu swobodnego oraz trajektorie ruchu środka masy samochodów, aż do zatrzymania. Zwrócono uwagę na występujące różnice oraz opisano przyczyny ich występowania. Przedstawione wyniki badań mogą być pomocne przy rekonstrukcji tego rodzaju zdarzeń drogowych, w szczególności w przypadkach, gdy samochody po zderzeniu nie były intensywnie hamowane.
The article presents the results of experimental research obtained during the physical simulation of right-angle collision of the same make and model cars. In subsequent crash tests the place of the side impact was changed. In every test, the parameters of particular vehicle movement at the beginning of the free movement, as well as trajectories of movement of center of mass until stoppage were determined. Particular attention was paid to the discrepancies with description of causes of their occurrence. The results of the executed tests may occur helpful in reconstruction of road accidents of similar character, particularly in the events that the vehicles were not intensively braked after collisions.

We consider a set of parameterized planar arcs (x(t), y(t)) (0 1. We first prove the strict convexity of the functional for alpha > 2. Under the less stringent condition alpha > 1, we derive the stationarity condition and the formal expression for the Hessian, and prove that if a point exists at which the functional is stationary w.r.t. variations in y = y(t), for fixed x = x(t), then it is unique and realizes a global minimum; the functional is then unimodal. We also observe that the stationarity condition (Euler-Lagrange quation) is an integral-differential equation depending only on the arc shape and not on the parameterization per se, which gives the variational problem a certain intrinsic character. Then, we solve the inverse problem: given an admissible parameterized arc, we construct a smooth weighting function omega(t) for which the stationarity condition is satisfied, thus making the functional unimodal, and derive certain asymptotics. A numerical example pertaining to optimum-shape design in aerodynamics is computed for illustration.

Examples of the application of the confluent hypergeometric functions in miscellaneous areas of the theoretical physics are presented. It is suggested these functions to be utilized as a universal means for solution of a large number of problems, leading to: cylindrical, incomplete gamma, Coulomb wave, Airy, Kelvin, Bateman, Weber's parabolic cylinder, logarithmic-integral and exponential integral functions, generalized Laguerre, Poisson-Charlier and Hermit polynomials, integral sine and cosine, Fresnel and probability integrals, etc. (whose complete list is given), which are their special cases. The employment of such an approach would permit to develop general methods for integration of these tasks, to generalize results of different directions of physics and to find the common features of various phenomena, governed by equations, pertaining to the same family. Emphasis is placed here on the use of the Kummer function in the field of microwaves: the cases of normal and slow rotationally symmetric TE modes propagation in the azimuthally magnetized circular ferrite waveguide are considered. Lemmas on the properties of the argument, real and imaginary parts, and positive purely imaginary (real) zeros of the function mentioned in the complex (real) domain, of importance in the solution of boundary-value problem stated for normal (slow) waves, are substantiated analytically or numerically. A theorem for the identity of positive purely imaginary and real zeros of the complex respectively real Kummer function for certain parameters, is proved numerically. Tables and graphs support the results established. The terms for wave transmission are obtained as four bilaterally open intervals of variation of the quantities, specifying the fields. It turns out that the normal (slow) modes may exist in one (two) region(s). The theoretically predicted phase curves for the first waves of the two TE sets examined show that the structure explored is suitable for ferrite control components design.

In the paper a method for modeling flows in the presence of interacting particles is briefly presented. The method is based on merging classical, continuous approach of numerical solution of Navier-Stokes equations on the 2D mesh with discrete particles interacting with the fluid and among themselves by means of central and friction forces. Several sample simulations have been described presenting the flow through porous medium and convection flow driven by sedimentation.

The computer system for the complete design of the contra-rotating propellers presented in this article has several common blocks and procedures with the systems for design of single propellers and tandem corotating propellers, presented in detail in the Polish Maritime Research No.1 and No.4 of the Volume 16, 2009. In this article only the blocks and procedures developed specially for the contra-rotating propellers are described. The system is based on the lifting line and lifting surface models and on the Computational Fluid Mechanics methods. The comparative analysis of the contra-rotating propellers and the tandem corotating propellers is included.

The computer system for the completed design of the ducted ship propellers has some common blocks and procedures with the analogical system for open propellers that has already been presented in detail in the Polish Maritime Research [1]. This article describes only these blocks and procedures which are specific for the design of ducted propellers. These new blocks concern first of all the procedures for the design calculation of ducted propellers and for the analysis of the ducted propeller operation in the non-uniform velocity field behind the ship hull. The comparative analysis of computation results for different types of ducts is also presented.

The computer system presented in this article is composed of several program blocks for the complete design of ship propellers. The design calculations are based on a combination of the modified lifting line theory and on the vortex lifting surface theory. The system enables solution of the following design problems: - calculation of the scale effect on the ship wake velocity field, including the influence of the propeller and rudder on this field at the propeller location - maximization of the propulsive efficiency - optimization of the propeller blade geometry on the basis of the compromise between the cavitation and blade strength requirements - optimization of the number of propeller blades and blade geometry on the basis of the acceptable level of induced pressure pulses and unsteady shaft bearing forces - calculation of the blade spindle torque for the controllable pitch propellers. The computer system is equipped with many numerical options for graphical visualization of the input data, including an easy possibility of their correction and control of the intermediate and final results of calculations.

The paper studies convergenceof the Monotone Structural Evolution (MSE), a computational method of optimal control. The principles of MSE are described and an expository example presents the method in action. It is then proved that under appropriate assumptions the method is convergent to the decision space stationarity conditions. Observations on finite convergence and on connections with Pontryagin’s maximum principle are also provided.

Visual data analysis is an appealing and increasing field of application. We present two related visual analysis approaches that allow for the visualization of graphical model parameters and time-dependent association rules. When the graphical model is defined over purely nominal attributes, its local structure can be interpreted as an association rule. Such association rules comprise one of the most prominent and wide-spread analysis techniques for pattern detection, however, there are only few visualization methods. We introduce an alternative visual representation that also incorporates time since patterns are likely to change over time when the underlying data was collected from real-world processes. We apply the technique to both an artificial and a complex real-life dataset and show that the combined automatic and visual approach gives more and faster insight into the data than a fully-automatic approach only. Thus, our proposed method is capable of reducing considerably the analysis time.
