Opis:
W pracy przedstawiono wyniki badań właściwości fizycznych i mechanicznych materiałów ceramicznych, metalicznych i kompozytowych wytwarzanych metodą SPS. Określono wpływ nagrzewania prądem impulsowym na czas trwania procesu spiekania materiałów tlenkowych i kompozytowych o osnowie Ab03 w porównaniu do spiekania swobodnego i mikrofalowego. Poprawa przewodności elektrycznej tworzyw ceramicznych o osnowie Si,N4 umożliwiła zastosowanie obróbki elektroerozyjnej do formowania gotowych wyrobów. Zaprezentowano materiały ceramiczne (TaB2) wytwarzane w wyniku reakcji syntezy tantalu i boru podczas nagrzewania. Egzotermiczna reakcja syntezy proszków w trakcie procesu spiekania SPS umożliwia zwiększenie kinetyki nagrzewania i konsolidacji kompozytowych materiałów z dodatkiem proszków diamentowych w zakresie niższych temperatur bez grafityzacji fazy supertwardej.
The paper presents the results of physical and mechanical properties of ceramic, metallic and composite materials obtained using the SPS method. Materials sintered by this method have been used, among others, as cutting tools and grinding and polishing elements containing diamond grains. The sintering curves of Al203 matrix materials produced by SPS are presented. The influence of pulse current heating on the duration of the sintering process of oxide and composite materials with the Al203 matrix was determined. The properties of SPS sintering materials were compared with the properties of materials after conventional and microwave sintering processes. The sintering curves and selected properties of Al203 based materials with the addition of solid lubricating phases (WS2) and the addition of titanium diboride are presented. In the case of using SPS sintering it is possible to obtain materials characterized by high physical and mechanical properties at lower parameters (temperature and duration). The additive ofWS2 and TiB2 phases to the matrix of AI203-Ti(C,N) composite materials made it possible to significantly reduce the friction coefficient. The paper also presents the properties of materials based on silicon nitride sintered by SPS method. Si.ifV1 based materials with the addition of phases with good electrical conductivity (eg TiN, TiB2) sintered with SPS method were characterized by high hardness, Young's modulus and low electrical resistance. The improvement of electrical conductivity of Si3N4 ceramic materials enabled the use of electro discharge machining process to form finished products. The ceramic materials (TaB2) produced as a result of the synthesis reaction of tantalum and boron during heating were presented. The physical and mechanical properties of boride materials produced by the reaction sintering SPS and boride materials sintered of commercial TaB2 powders were compared. It also presents the properties of super-hard materials with a metallic matrix consolidated using the FAST/SPS reaction sintering technique. The exothermic reaction of powder synthesis during the SPS sintering process allows to increase the kinetics of heating and consolidation of composite materials with the addition of diamond powders in the range of lower temperatures without graphitization of the super-hard phase.

Opis:
Hybrid biomaterials due to their unique structure may become an alternative for many popular composite and nanocomposite materials. Multilevel modification of their matrix manifesting itself in the presence of particles of different sizes i.e., micrometric, submicrometric and nanometric together with the variety of shapes of a modyfing phase (nanometric fibres, submicron particles, coated nanoparticles) and its different chemical character make the hybrid materials similar to natural tissue. Bone tissue structure is particulary close to this model in which collagen fibres and hydroxyapatite particles and nanoparticles have not only different form but first of all they play different role in the tissue which depends on their chemical nature. In the biomedical engineering syntetic hybride biomaterials are usually produced using resorbable and degradable polymer matrices and inorganic filers (ceramic bioactive particles; HAp, TCP, SiO2) or organic filers (collagen, polysaccharides e.g. alginate fibres). The main function of the modyfing phase is inprovement of the polymer matrix leading to bioactive, stronger material showing high biofunctionality. Production of hybrid materials is based mainly on experimental works, which is related to the presence in their matrix few phases with different properties which may interact. Hybrid materials do not follow the rule of mixtures thus it is difficult to predict behaviour of a material in which co-exis different chemical and phisical phases. In the work hybrid composite foils were produced in which modyfing phase consisted in; nanocomposite calcium alginate fibres modyfied with ceramic nanoparticles; HAp (CAH fibres), TCP (CAT fibres), SiO2 (CAS fibres) and MMT (CAM fibres). Short fibres were subjected to additional size reduction in vibration ball mill resultiong in submicron and nanometric phases. Size of the particels after grinding was determined by screening analysis and DLS method (for particels smaller than 500 nm). It was observed than the population of short fibres consist in three fractions i.e.; micrometric (~2μm, 50 wt.%), submicrometric (500–800 nm, 40 wt.%) and nanometric ( below 500 nm, 10 wt.%). The fibres and products of their grinding were homogenised in P(L/ DL)LA polymer solution (poly-L/DL-lactide, Purarorb 80, Purac Germany). A hybride material in the form of thin foils containing 2 wt.% of a modyfing phase were subjected to durability tests consisting in incubation in distilled water (30 days/37C). Monitoring of the medium pH and conductivity did not show changes related to harmful products of their decomposition. Osteoblast-like cells from MG-63 line contacted with the surface of the materials showed high viability (MMT test) comparable with the reference material (TCPS). High degree of adherence of the cells to the materal surface (CV test) testifies of potential abilities of the material stimulating proliferation of bone tissue cells. The highes rate of dynamic growth (increase of the cells number after 7 days of incubation) was observed for the material which was modified with CAS fibres and products of their grinding. The performed investigations have a preliminary character. Their results testify for potential osteoconductive or osteoinductive abilities of hybride materials basing on P(L/DL)LA and alginate nanocomposite fibres.

Opis:
In the framework of this study, Al2O3-lignin hybrid materials differing in terms of the weight ratio of the inorganic and organic components were designed and obtained. The method of mechanical grinding of ingredients with simultaneous mixing using a mortar grinder and a high-performance ball mill was used in order to obtain the above-mentioned systems. The effectiveness of obtaining alumina- lignin materials was confirmed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and, indirectly, by the colorimetric analysis. FTIR analysis allowed to confirm that hydrogen bonds formed between the components and classify the resulting systems as Ist class hybrid materials. In the course of the conducted research, the relatively high thermal stability of the hybrid materials was also confirmed and the dispersion and morphological character (SEM) of the obtained systems was determined. Favourable physicochemical and microstructural evaluation allowed to qualify the alumina-lignin hybrid systems as functional admixtures for cement mortars. As part of the tests, it was confirmed that the presence of lignin in the cement composites contributes to the increase of the plasticity of the mixture. In turn, the inorganic component allowed to preserve (and, in case of selected systems, improve) the mechanical properties of the final composites. The most favourable results of application tests were obtained for alumina-lignin hybrid systems with a weight ratios equal to 5:1 and 2:1. The analysis of these systems indicated that there is a clear improvement of mechanical properties, whit a simultaneous enhancement of the plasticity of the mixture in comparison to the reference sample.

An optical fluorescent sensor based on a chitosan thin film co-doped with Eu3+ and a bromothymol blue pH indicator has been developed. Near-UV to visible (350–400 nm) excitation of the europium (III) chelate complexes with 1,3-diphenyl-1,3-propanedione exhibits a typical lanthanide emission with maximum at 618 nm. Luminescent spectra of the Eu3+ complex were found to be insensitive to the presence of methylamine gas. Therefore, bromothymol blue, a non-fluorescent pH indicator with an absorbance maximum of deprotonated form close to the Eu3+ emission band was added to the film to provide a non-fluorescent reversible response to different methylamine concentrations, which can be detected by measuring the Eu3+ emission.

A new non-combustible, non-flammable, waterproof, long-lasting, heat-insulating composite material was made of glass foam granules (derived from glass waste) and a hydraulic inorganic binder in the form of a white Portland cement solution (CEM I 52.5 N), zeolite, airborne agent and water. The resulting composite is resistant to climatic temperature fluctuations, characterized by a coefficient of thermal conductivity of λ = 0.047 W/mK and is potentially applicable for the production of sound and heat insulating panels for non-bearing partition walls and external insulation of buildings. The technology for obtaining the product is in line with the current tendencies for the development of ecological productions through the utilization of waste materials and provides the opportunity to produce various standard monolith products suitable for direct use or further processing. Experimental studies of the acoustic and mechanical performance of standard experimental samples made from the developed composite material were carried out. The average sound insulation value is 30 dB. An average tensile strength of 0.036 MPa and an average compressive strength of 0.55 MPa were found.

This paper presents the synthesis and characterization of new polymeric materials in form of composites. As a fillers, waste materials of inorganic origin (ash and silica gel), were used. In the synthesis of composites, two derivatives of bisphenol A (glycerolate diacrylate, and epoxy resin, Epidian® 5), were applied. The compositions were prepared with an increasing amount of fillers 0-40% w/w in both tested systems. Composites were analyzed using the thermogravimetric analysis (TG/DTG), which showed the influence of different fillers on their thermal properties. Moreover, the proper course of the polymerization reaction was confirmed by spectroscopic analysis (ATR/FT-IR). It has been shown that new resistant materials can be obtained, using cheap and waste materials, by simple synthesis which does not require monitoring of the reaction course or expensive polymerization initiators.

In recent years, the idea of sustainable development has become one of the most important requirements of civilization. Development of sustainable construction involves the need for the introduction of innovative technologies and solutions that will combine beneficial economic effects with taking care of the health and comfort of users, reducing the negative impact of the materials on the environment. Composites obtained from the use of waste materials are part of these assumptions. These include modified epoxy mortar containing waste wood fibres, described in this article. The modification consists in the substitution of sand by crushed waste boards, previously used as underlays for panels, in quantities of 0%, 10%, 20%, 35% and 50% by weight, respectively. Composites containing up to 20% of the modifier which were characterized by low water absorption, and good mechanical properties, also retained them after the process of cyclic freezing and thawing.

W pracy przeprowadzono ocenę zachowania się w środowisku biologicznym resorbowalnych kompozytów polimerowo-metalicznch. Stanowiące fazę metaliczną gąbki magnezowe impregnowano kopolimerem PLDLA metodą zanurzania w roztworze. Na podstawie testów in vitro określono stopień degradacji kompozytów (pH, przewodnictwo). Przeprowadzono analizę mikrostruktury (SEM, μCT) oraz oszacowano porowatość całkowitą próbek. Stwierdzono, że zastosowany polimer może spełnić funkcję bariery opóźniającej resorpcję implantu magnezowego. Proces ten wymaga jednak dalszych badań i optymalizację warunków imersji ponieważ polimer nie zabezpieczył w dostatecznym stopniu powierzchni magnezu przed zbyt szybko postępującą korozją.
The work concerns the assessment of resorbable polymer-metallic composite behaviour in the biological solution. Magnesium sponges were immersed with copolymer (PLDLA). On the basis of in vitro tests the degradation rate of composites was determined (pH and conductivity). Microstructure analyses (SEM, μCT) and total porosity for all samples were estimated. It was found that the polymer used can perform a function of inhibition barrier for implant's resorption. This process still requires another research and optimization of immersion's conditions due to the magnesium surface insufficient polymer protection against the rapid corrosion progress.

The reprocessing of polymeric waste materials is an important issue from an environmental point of view. This paper presents the synthesis and characterization of epoxy resin based composites with the application of waste powder from toner (laser printer) as a filler (10 wt.%). The use of waste filler is part of a sustainable economy. For the synthesis of composites, epoxy resin (Epidian® 5) and three amines (ethylenediamine, triethylenetetramine and aniline) were applied. The presence of the amines compounds in the samples was confirmed by the ATR/FT-IR spectra on which were noted the stretching vibrations band the C-N groups around 1037 cm-1. Materials were analyzed by the TG/DTG and DSC analysis, which showed the influence of kind the crosslinking agent and the presence of filler on their thermal properties. The glass transition (Tg) of materials occurs in the temperature range from 39.8 to 64.2°C. The highest values were achieved for the triethylenetetramine (TETA), which indicates the highest cross-linking of this composite. It has been shown that materials about satisfactory can be obtained, using cheap and waste substances by simple synthesis which does not require expensive polymerization initiators.

Polymeric materials and their composites in vehicles have experienced a real boom in the last 30 years, and their application is increasing with a tendency to further growth. The demands on the modern vehicle industry, whether they are trains, planes, or cars, are ever challenging - users want high-performance vehicles, but at the same time they are looking for improved reliability and safety, greater comfort, and low pricing. Changing the proportion of light-weight materials to steel in the construction of new vehicles helps make them lighter and more fuel or electrical energy efficient, resulting in lower greenhouse gas emissions. There is one family of materials that is responding to the challenge of these potentially conflicting demands: polymer materials. This includes relatively pure chemical materials as well as fibre-filled polymer composites.65 This article presents polymeric materials that are used for the production of vehicle parts today.

The aim of this study was to evaluate biocompatibility of multilevel composites based on bioresorbable poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PGLA). Polymer matrix was modified with multidimensional (MD) short biopolymer fibers of calcium alginate (CA) containing bioactive ceramic nanoparticles (nanohydroxyapatite - HA or nanosilica - SiO2). The nanocomposite fibres present in the polymer samples influenced cells morphology, viability and secretory activity which was estimated using human osteoblasts cells (NHOst). The results indicate that biodegradable nanocomposite CA-HA/PGLA improves biological properties of the basic biomaterial (PGLA) suggesting its potential application for bone tissue engineering.
