Opis:
We consider a semi-infinite optimization problem in Banach spaces, where both the objective functional and the constraint operator are compositions of convex nonsmooth mappings and differentiable mappings. We derive necessary optimality conditions for these problems. Finally, we apply these results to non-convex stochastic optimization problems with stochastic dominance constraints, generalizing earlier results.

Opis:
The paper deals with the multiobjective and multiscale optimization of heterogeneous structures by means of computational intelligence methods. The aim of the paper is to find optimal properties of composite structures in a macro scale modifying their microstructure. At least two contradictory optimization criteria are considered simultaneously. A numerical homogenization concept with a representative volume element is applied to obtain equivalent macro-scale elastic constants. An in-house multiobjective evolutionary algorithm MOOPTIM is applied to solve the considered optimization tasks. The finite element method is used to solve the boundary-value problem in both scales. A numerical example is attached.

Opis:
Thin-walled open cross-section bars are effective structural members (with respect to overall stability). But the weight efficiency of bars with flat walls is constrained by their low stiffness in local buckling. The use of composites and multi-layer materials is one of perspective ways to overcome this shortage. The minimum-weight problem for such laminated bars not been studied until now. In the paper a solution to the structural optimization problem for three-layer channel cross-section columns under compression is presented. The optimization problem is formulated as a nonlinear programming problem. Basic constraints are conditions of overall and local stability. In addition, strength, wrinkling and geometrical constraints (on minimal thickness of skin layers and maximal total thickness) have been accounted for. For the given material properties the optimal dimensions of the cross-section and the optimal thickness ratio (for the steel and composite layers) are determined. The three-layer members are shown to be much more efficient in comparison with columns made of homogeneous materials. The sensitivity of optimal projects to changes in the material properties (in particular, to changes of the modulus of elasticity in tension and in shear) is also studied.

The article presents theoretical and experimental investigation on properties of a composite material based on rubber. The approach presented in this research is an experimental measurement based on spectrum analysis combined with theoretical investigation held to describe a viscous-elastic behaviour of the material. The proposed mathematical model is represented by five rheological parameters of hybrid Maxwell and Kelvin-Voigt elements and includes an optimization task for determination of the stiffness and damping coefficients. In the proposed rheological model, not only the displacements are unknown but also forces described by second-order differential equations. Validation between the experimental measurement and theoretical investigation is made based on spectrum analysis.

The conducted research presents theoretical and experimental research on composite pneumatic tire used in transport engineering. The approach of the numerical simulation sequence which is offered in this research facilitates engineers in efficient determination of the dynamic properties and behaviour of vehicle tire at design stage. The tire materials have been tested by employing piezoelectric micro-vibration tests and frequency analyses. The Finite Element Method used for numerical simulation in combination with experimental measurements based on optimization by material frequency response, was applied in modelling tire material behaviour avoiding problems of composite structure modelling. The obtained results indicate that the offered methodology can be used in numerical simulation of composite tire investigation and considering material viscos-elastic properties.

A special type of new discrete design variables is introduced in order to find optimal stacking sequences for laminated structures. Using the proposed new design variables, we demonstrate how to find analytical (i.e. without any numerical optimization algorithm) optimal solutions for laminates made of plies having three different fibre orientations: 0° , ±45° , 90° . It is proved that the definition of design variables enables us to distinguish two types of optimal solutions, i.e. unimodal and bimodal ones. The form of optimal stacking sequences affects the multiplicity (bimodal problems) or uniqueness (unimodal problems) of the solutions. The decoding procedure between membrane and flexural design variables is also proposed. The results demonstrate the effectiveness, simplicity and advantages of the use of design variables, especially in the sense of the accuracy, repeatability of results and convergence of the method.

Opis:
Power system loads are one of its crucial elements to be modeled in stability studies. However their static and dynamic characteristics are very often unknown and usually changing in time (daily, weekly, monthly and seasonal variations). Taking this into account, a measurement-based approach for determining the load characteristics seems to be the best practice, as it updates the parameters of a load model directly from the system measurements. To achieve this, a Parameter Estimation tool is required, so a common approach is to incorporate the standard Nonlinear Least Squares, or Genetic Algorithms, as a method providing more global capabilities. In this paper a new solution is proposed -an Improved Particle Swarm Optimization method. This method is an Artificial Intelligence type technique similar to Genetic Algorithms, but easier for implementation and also computationally more efficient. The paper provides results of several experiments proving that the proposed method can achieve higher accuracy and show better generalization capabilities than the Nonlinear Least Squares method. The computer simulations were carried out using a one-bus and an IEEE 39-bus test system.

Optimizing the aerodynamic structure of composite insulators can guarantee the safe operation of power systems. In this study, we construct a simulation model for composite insulator contaminant deposition using the COMSOL simulation software, and the rationality of the simulation model and method is verified through wind tunnel experiments. Taking the FXBW4-110/100 composite insulator as an example, we adopt a progressive optimization plan to explore the impacts of shed spacing s, and shed inclination angles α and β on its contaminant deposition characteristics under DC and AC voltages. Based on the numerical simulation results, we analyze the antifouling performance of insulators before and after structural optimization. The results indicate the following: 1) The contaminant deposition of the insulator under AC and DC voltages is negatively correlated with the shed spacing s, but positively correlated with the lower inclination angle β. 2) Under AC voltages, the contaminant deposition of the insulator increases with the upper inclination angle α, while under DC voltages, the contaminant deposition shows an uptrend first, then a downtrend and then an uptrend again with the increase of the upper inclination angle α. 3) Compared with the original model, the AC-optimized model ( α = 6°, β = 2° and s = 98 mm) with a larger shed spacing s, and smaller shed inclination angles α and β showed superior antifouling performance at wind speeds of no less than 2 m/s, and under the typical conditions ( v = 2.5 m/s, d = 20 μm, and ρ = 2 200 kg/m 3), its contaminant deposition is 15% less than that of the original model ( α = 10°, β = 2° and s = 80 mm).

The paper deals with the impact of manufacturing tolerances of plies thicknesses on optimal design of multi-layered laminated plates in compression. It is assumed that the considered tolerances are represented by the maximum acceptable deviation of every individual ply thickness from its nominal design value. The robustness of the optimum is achieved diminishing the buckling load amplitude factor by the product of arbitrary assumed tolerances and appropriate sensitivities. The discussed optimization problem is solved numerically by the direct enumeration method. The proposed approach is illustrated with examples of the rectangular multi-layered laminated plate design under uni- and biaxial compression. The achieved results emphasise the robustness of the proposed method compared to the approaches with ignored tolerances.

Talc has many applications in various branches of industry. This material is an inert one with a naturally hydrophobic surface. Talc agglomeration is within the wide interest of pharmaceutical industry. Oil agglomeration experiments of talc were carried out to find out and assess the significance of experimental factors. Central composite design (CCD) was used to estimate the importance and interrelation of the agglomeration process parameters. Four experimental factors have been evaluated, i.e. concentration of cationic surfactant and oil, agitation intensity as well as time of the process. The median size of agglomerates (D50) and the polydispersity span (PDI) were used as the process responses. Logarithmic transformations of the responses provide better description of the model, than untransformed responses, with the reduced cubic model for D50 and quadratic model for PDI. This was supported by the Box-Cox plots. It was shown that there were many statistically important factors, including the concentration of cationic surfactant and stirring rate for D50, concentration of oil and stirring rate for PDI, as well as various interactions, up to third order for D50. Optimal conditions for minimum values of reagent amounts as well as mixing time and intensity for the maximum size of agglomerates but of rather narrow size distribution were found.

This paper aims to investigate the ability of photo-Fenton technology to remove Reactive Red dye (RR-dye) from wastewater using batch and continuous operating modes. The batch mode of photo-Fenton removal of organic content was conducted under the influence of solution pH (3–10), hydrogen peroxide (25–100 ppm), irradiation time (20–90 min), ferrous sulphate (5–20 ppm), and temperature (25–60 °C). For comparison, the continuous treatment was conducted under the influence of the flow rate of the contaminated solution (10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 mL/min). The results revealed that the treatability of the batch mode was more effective compared to the continuous mode. In the batch process, the organic contaminant was completely removed compared to that of 82% obtained when the continuous system was performed. The optimization process showed that the optimal values of the operating variables in the case of the batch removal of RR-dye were 3, 78 ppm, 90 min, 20 ppm, and 60 °C for pH, hydrogen peroxide, irradiation time, ferrous sulphate, and temperature, respectively. Moreover, the reversion F-value was 21.69, the probability P value was less than 0.001, and the correlation coefficient was (R2 = 0.9455), which illustrative the significance of the model obtained for the batch process.
