Opis:
Introduction and aim. The use of complementary medicine applications is increasing due to the interest of society. We aimed to assess the attitudes, behaviors, and awareness of the patients who applied to a primary care unit towards complementary medicine practices. Material and methods. This cross-sectional study was conducted with the voluntary participation of 562 individuals who admitted in a primary care unit. The data was collected through face-to-face interviews through a research questionnaire form and the Complementary, Alternative, and Conventional Medicine Attitudes Scale between 20 June-20 August 2021. The sample size was calculated with the OpenEpi v3.01program and statistical analyzes were performed using the SPSS-24 package program. Results. Their mean age was 39.73±12.95 years and women accounted for 55.5% (n=312) of all participants. The most known complementary medicine methods were phytotherapy, acupuncture, and cup therapy. The information sources of the participants about Complementary Medicine were mostly people around them; only 31.1% of them consulted a doctor. The mean total scale score was 111.45±19.08. Those with chronic diseases, employees, who had COVID-19 disease, high educational status, and those who evaluated their health status as good had more positive attitudes towards complementary medicine practices. A weak negative correlation was found between age and total scale score. Conclusion. Although positive attitudes towards complementary medicine practices are exhibited, health professionals are consulted at very low rates as a source of information. Health care providers must make arrangements and plans to provide this increasing interest from reliable sources.

Introduction and aim. Sleep problems are frequently experienced in cancer patients and complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is solve the problem. However, patients’ attitudes towards this practice are crucial. This study was purpose to investigate the attitudes of cancer patients towards CAM practices in the management of sleep problems. Material and methods. This cross-sectional. and descriptive study was conducted between February-June 2020, on 140 cancer patients in oncology/haematology clinics, three different hospitals in Istanbul. Data were collected by using the Information Form, “Richard Campbell Sleep Questionnaire and The Attitudes towards Holistic Complementary and Alternative Medicine scale”. Results. It was found that the patients had problems with sleep in general 42.74±21.31, mostly in the aspect of the quality of sleep 36.28±26.1. It was determined that stage IV cancer, education and income level of patients affect sleep problems. While female holistic health attitudes were more negative and, their attitudes towards CAM were positive. It was found in the analysis of variance that was performed to determine the difference between the mean scores towards sleep problems of patients in different stages (F=3.062; p<0.05). Conclusion. It was found that cancer patients usually had sleep problems, and their attitudes towards CAM practices were positive.

Mid-wavelength infrared detectors and focal plane array based on n-type InAs/InAsSb type- II strained layer superlattice absorbers have achieved excellent performance. In the long and very long wavelength infrared, however, n-type InAs/InAsSb type-II strained layer superlattice detectors are limited by their relatively small absorption coefficients and short growth-direction hole diffusion lengths, and consequently have only been able to achieve modest level of quantum efficiency. The authors present an overview of their progress in exploring complementary barrier infrared detectors that contain p-type InAs/InAsSb type-II strained layer superlattice absorbers for quantum efficiency enhancement. The authors describe some representative results, and also provide additional references for more indepth discussions. Results on InAs/InAsSb type-II strained layer superlattice focal plane arrays for potential NASA applications are also briefly discussed.

An almost self-complementary 3-uniform hypergraph on n vertices exists if and only if n is congruent to 3 modulo 4. A hypergraph $ H $ with vertex set $ V $ and edge set $ E $ is called bipartite if $ V $ can be partitioned into two subsets $ V_1 $ and $ V_2 $ such that $ e ∩ V_1 ≠ ∅ $ and $e ∩ V_2 ≠ ∅ $ for any $ e ∈ E $. A bipartite self-complementary 3-uniform hypergraph $ H $ with partition $ (V_1, V_2) $ of the vertex set $ V $ such that $ |V_1| = m $ and $ |V_2| = n $ exists if and only if either (i) $ m = n $ or (ii) $ m ≠ n $ and either $ m $ or $ n $ is congruent to 0 modulo 4 or (iii) $ m ≠ n $ and both $ m $ and $ n $ are congruent to 1 or 2 modulo 4. In this paper we define a bipartite almost self-complementary 3-uniform hypergraph $ H $ with partition $ (V_1, V_2) $ of a vertex set $ V $ such that $ |V_1| = m $ and $ |V_2| = n $ and find the conditions on $ m $ and $ n $ for a bipartite 3-uniform hypergraph $ H $ to be almost self-complementary. We also prove the existence of bi-regular bipartite almost self-complementary 3-uniform hypergraphs.

Cancer is responsible for the death of millions of people all around the world. Among the large group of cancers, the prevalence of breast cancer is highest in women. Therapeutic interventions, including removal surgery, radiation therapy, hormone therapy, and chemotherapy which is largely used, may cause adverse effects on the quality of patients’ life. This fact has encouraged researchers to find natural substances such as honey to overcome harmful effects. Nowadays, honey is recommended for plenty of abnormalities because of its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties. Various studies have been conducted to explore the anticancer benefits of different types of honey from different origins. In this review, we are going to summarize in-vitro, animal, and human studies on the anti-breast cancer potential of honey.

Opis:
We consider cyclic partitions of the complete $k$-uniform hypergraph on a finite set $V$, minus a set of $s$ edges, $ s \ge 0 $. An $s$-almost $t$-complementary $k$-hypergraph is a $k$-uniform hypergraph with vertex set $V$ and edge set $E$ for which there exists a permutation $ \theta \in Sym(V)$ such that the sets $E$, $ E^\theta $, $ E^\{\theta^2} $, . . ., $ E^{\theta^{t−1}} $ partition the set of all $k$-subsets of $V$ minus a set of $s$ edges. Such a permutation $ \theta $ is called an $s$-almost $(t, k)$-complementing permutation. The $s$-almost $t$-complementary $k$-hypergraphs are a natural generalization of the almost self-complementary graphs which were previously studied by Clapham, Kamble et al. and Wojda. We prove the existence of an $s$-almost $ p^\alpha $-complementary $k$-hypergraph of order $n$, where $p$ is prime, \( s= \Pi_{i \ge 0 } \binom{n_i}{k_i} \), and $n_i$ and $k_i$ are the entries in the base-$ p^\alpha $ representations of $n$ and $k$, respectively. This existence result yields a combinatorial argument which generalizes Lucas’ classic 1878 number theory result to prime powers, which was originally proved by Davis and Webb in 1990 by another method. In addition, we prove an alternative statement of the necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of a $ p^\alpha $-complementary $k$-hypergraph, and the equivalence of these two conditions yield an interesting relationship between the base-$p$ representation and the base-$ p^\alpha $ representation of a positive integer $n$. Finally, we determine a set of necessary and sufficient conditions on $n$ for the existence of a $t$-complementary $k$-uniform hypergraph on $n$ vertices for composite values of $t$, extending previous results due to Wojda, Szymański and Gosselin.

Creature consciousness provides a physicalist account of the first-person awareness (contra Rosenthal). I argue that non-reductive consciousness is not about phenomenal qualia (Nagel’s what it is like to feel like something else); it is about the stream of awareness that makes any objects of perception epistemically available and ontologically present. This kind of consciousness is central, internally to one’s awareness. Externally, the feel about one’s significant other’s that “there is someone home” is quite important too. This is not substance dualism since creature consciousness and functional consciousness are both at different generality levels of physicalism. Surprisingly, pre-Hegel philosophy of pure subject is more fitting with the current engineering approach than analytical phenomenalism. The complementary view of subjectand object-related perspectives, may come from Fichte’s Wissenschaftslehre; but here it is placed, securely within the physicalist paradigm. It is essential to the Engineering Thesis in Machine Consciousness, which helps us understand under what general conditions a machine would be first-person conscious, but when it is merely functionally conscious.

Opis:
Medycyna komplementarna i alternatywna to metody terapeutyczne niezaliczane do medycyny akademickiej (konwencjonalnej).
Complementary and alternative medicine are therapeutic methods not included in academic (conventional) medicine. In recent years, there has been a noticeable increase in the demand for this kind of paramedical services. In Poland, they have no separate legal regulation and therefore it is not clear whether they should be regarded as ‘ordinary’ or medical services. The aim of the article is to indicate the legal basis for the functioning of paramedical activity, define the subject of this paramedical activity, determine how the legal position of its recipients is shaped and to essay to predict the direction of possible changes. The article describes the genesis of paramedical activity, attempts to regulate some of its branches, the tendency of some international organisations to unify its status, the attitude that the medical and pharmaceutical self-governments take towards paramedicine in internal acts (regulating the principles of practice of the profession by its members). Using the available literature on the subject and making reference to the relevant doctrine and jurisprudence, the author analyses the current legal situation, which leads to presentation of proposals for the content of a legal definition of paramedicine and other postulates de lege ferenda resulting from the application of dogmatics of law in the civil research method.

Purpose: This study is a descriptive study conducted to investigate the use of Complementary and Integrative Medicines (CIM) among internal medicine and surgical clinic nurses in the COVID-19 pandemic period. Materials and methods: The study sample consisted of 1112 nurses working at the internal medicine and surgical clinics of a hospital in eastern Turkey. The data were collected between November 2020 and February 2021 by using a Nurse Identification Form and a Questionnaire Form for Complementary/Integrative Treatment. Ethics board approval and institutional permission were obtained. Results: It was determined that 55.2% of the participants used at least one of the CIM methods, the most frequently used method was herbal treatment-phytotherapy (96.7%), and the least frequently used method was homeopathy (3.1%). On CIM usage, the having received CIM training (β=0.395), high levels of perceived danger regarding the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on health (β=0.321), high levels of perceived infection probability (β=0.249), high levels of concern about being in crowded places (β=0.187), high levels of concern about getting the infection in oneself and/or family members (β=0.262) and being at the ages of 40-50 (β=0.116) had predictive effects. Conclusions: It was determined that the majority of the nurses used CIM methods in the COVID-19 pandemic process, and they preferred herbal treatment most. To prevent a negative outcome that may potentially be caused by a CIM method that is used, it is recommended to provide nurses with training on CIM use for the COVID-19 pandemic.

Edith Stein reflected the sex-gender-problem early in the 1920s and found a ballance between biological, psychological and sociological influences on the person. The meaning of the difference between the sexes is giving live, but the biological state - from a Christian perspective - does not compulsorily lead a woman to become a mother and a man to become a father. In the redemptional order established by Jesus Christ there is the possibility to stay celebate and overcome the natural border between the sexes in developping character traits as a woman that were formerly associated with men and vice versa. The live forms of marriage and celebacy are equally valuable. That leaves an open space in the discussion of compulsory heterosexuality, so that one does not have to devaluate two-gender-normativity nor does one have to automatically follow biological presuppositions.

Seeding an ecology of life involves cultivating a Culture of Care and a Culture of Encounter. This vision englobes integral ecology, social justice, and holistic approaches to healing as well as conflict resolution. Wholeness can be engendered through narrative methods. We need a new story and new flyways to future form. In a space of creative flexibility, we can co-design transformagrams, in the context of higher education. An ecology of life is connected to healing practices and traditions that contribute to human flourishing. Complementary and Alternative Medicine offer medical practices that are holistic and require innovative pedagogies that engage the whole person within the learning process. This philosophical posture that values wholeness is interconnected with integral ecology and social justice. Living learning lives can be approached as a societal endeavour that engages individuals, learning communities, and academia. As biomedicine is the dominant medical approach in the Western world, mediating pedagogies are needed to teach future practitioners about complementary and alternative medicine, as patients increasingly seek out these practices.

This study examined how person–supervisor fit is related to employees’ proactive behavior and unethical behavior towards the organization. The study involved 321 employees representing various sectors in Poland. The participants completed the Person–Supervisor Fit Scale, Proactive Behavior Scale, and the Unethical Behavior Questionnaire. Results show that a supplementary fit is weakly and positively related to proactive behavior but is not related to complementary fit. Surprisingly, supplementary fit is weakly but positively related to unethical behavior, while complementary fit from a needs–resources perspective is weakly and negatively associated with unethical behavior. Conclusions may be applied to organizational settings challenged by the problem of employee unethical behavior and their low proactivity in the context of person–supervisor congruence.
