Opis:
Increasingly, there have been proposals for grammar writers to take into account the realities and needs of the community in order to produce grammars that can serve the interests of the native speakers (e.g. Kadanya 2006, Rehg 2014). Obviously, a grammar of an endangered language should, among other things, lead to the maintenance and/or revitalization of the language. However, grammars that are comprehensive and clear (Noonan 2007, Payne 2014, Rice 2006), and yet focus on and meet the needs of the target community, are still rare. This paper provides a reflection, from a community linguist’s perspective, on how a community-based grammar could be conceived and written in the African context. It is based on an exploration of grammars written by native and non-native speakers, as well as on the feedback from native speakers. The paper points out some practical challenges involved (e.g. with data collection, and actual use of the grammars), and upholds that a grammar that is based on community mobilization, sensitization, and training requires a greater involvement and follow-up by the grammar writer, especially after publication.

Opis:
This study was aimed at providing an overview and assessment of the current seed systems and performance of Community Based Seed Multiplication Scheme (CBSMS) as well as reviewing challenges and ways for sustainability in Metekel Zone. CBSMS came in to existence in Metekel Zone of Benishangul Gumuz region seed systems in 2008 to narrow the gap between the galloping demand and stagnant supply of improved and quality seed. Pawe Agricultural Research Center (PARC) and its partners have come up with CBSMS with multidimensional support from the former to produce in 2013/14 3279 quintal and in 2014/15 1275 quintal of quality seed. Seed systems in Metekel Zone were observed to be complex and the role of PARC is observed to be vital. The study suggests strengthening the CBSMS as they are the main source of improved seed in the zone. Moreover, proper training of farmers, market information network, incentive mechanism, and controlling the quality of seed should be given emphasis. To make CBSMS sustainable coordination among key partners and proper institutional arrangements is of paramount importance. Strengthening farmers’ association/ union through institutional support should be given priority for sustainability of the scheme.

Peat forest plays a principal role in climate change mitigation in Indonesia. Considering the potential releases of GHGs from a forest fire and degraded peatland, it is important to conserve peatland forests. Besides being essential for ecological balancing, the role of peatland forest expands to the economic and social aspects. The purpose of this research was to calculate $CO_2$ emissions that can be avoided by the community-based fire prevention and rewetting program. This research utilized spatial analysis to calculated avoided $CO_2$ emissions in six villages in Central Kalimantan. Data and information for the calculation were generated from field observations, interviews, and desk study. Spatial analysis using Arc GIS 10.5 was applied to compute the incombustible areas. The result from the analysis found that fire prevention and rewetting programs managed to prevent approximately 1 million Mg C or equivalent to 3.7 million $CO_2$. The program managed to prevent emission from the vulnerable area including swamp shrubs, plantations and dry land agriculture. The finding of this study suggests that community-based fire prevention and peatland rewetting programs could become a strategic program in climate change mitigation in Indonesia.

Principle of Normalization have had a profound impact on all the disability rehabilitation services across the world. Many radical changes towards services for persons with disabilities were brought by Principle of Normalization, originated in 1969 few of such changes are inclusion, full inclusion, self determination, individualized support, community based rehabilitation, integration etc. As a consequence of Normalization, disability gained the attention of the mass and became very popular across the globe as ‘a right based ideology, which in turn, initiated integration, inclusion, community based rehabilitation and other non-segregating practices but surprisingly inclusion became very popular much more than Normalization. In fact inclusion has its root in Principle of Normalization. This chapter is intended to introduce the Principle of Normalization as a philosophy behind inclusive practices. An understanding of principle of normalization is essential to understand inclusion or other such inclusive practices in true sense. This chapter discusses in detail all eight facets of normalization an the reasons why it was misunderstood and further extended as social role valorization.

This paper shows how a participatory study on inclusive education was designed and developed in a town in the northwest of Spain. The methodology included the development of collaborative inquiries at intra-school, interschool and local levels. It was designed by following the principles of participative and community-based research. This study demonstrates diverse ways in which different educational levels face inclusion; the value of collaboration between agents and institutions for innovative thinking and practice; and the need to develop further and wider research connecting participatory research and community engagement movements to systematic research into inclusive education.

Community - based tourism is considered as a type of tourism that brings many sustainable economic benefits to indigenous people in many countries in the world. Vietnam is a country with great potentials for natural landscapes, historical values, indigenous culture of ethnic groups with habits and lifestyles, rich culinary culture of regions, it is the basis for development of community based tourism. In many ethnic minority areas, the villages have become actors to provide services to tourists, and indi-genous people also have income from tourism acivities. Community-based tourism is increasingly popular and meaningful not only for tourists, local governments but also for the whole community. In developing countries like Vietnam, local tourism has provided an important source of employment for women, providing them with many opportunities of income. The study of women involved in tourism is also a topic of interest in the field of tourism and sociology in Vietnam. This paper discusses the issue of women participating in tourism activities in a tourism village in the ethnic minority areas of Northern Vietnam - Quynh Son village, Bac Son district, Lang Son province.

Metody: zbadano 97 chorych psychicznie osób z województwa mazowieckiego: 52 osoby z ŚDS i 45 z WTZ. Do badania wykorzystano kwestionariusze psychologiczne: Skalę Samooceny (Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, SES), Skalę Uogólnionej Własnej Skuteczności (Generalized Self-Efficacy Scale, GSES), Kwestionariusz Nadziei Podstawowej (Basic Hope Inventory-12, BHI-12) i Kwestionariusz Piętna i Dyskryminacji (Consumer Experiences of Stigma Questionnaire, CESQ). Wyniki: osoby korzystające z dwóch typów środowiskowych systemów wsparcia: ŚDS i WTZ charakteryzują się podobnym poziomem zasobów w zakresie samooceny, samoskuteczności i nadziei podstawowej.
Purpose: The aim of the study was to compare the level of resources (self-esteem, selfefficacy, basic hope), stigma and discrimination among people using one of two communitybasedsupport system (Community Self-Help Center and Occupational Therapy Workshops). Methods: In total 97 subjects with mental illness in in the Mazowieckie Province (52 fromCommunity Self-Help Center and 45 from Occupational Therapy Workshops) were examined with the use of the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (SES), Generalized Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES),Basic Hope Inventory-12 (BHI-12) and Consumer Experiences of Stigma Questionnaire (CESQ). Results: Results shows no differences in the level of resources (self-esteem, selfefficacy, basic hope) between the study groups. Whereas for the entire study group the predictor of the stigma was the level of self-esteem – the lower the self-esteem people usingcommunity-based support systems had, the more stigma they felt. Conclusions: Self-esteem can be crucial for coping with difficult social situations, such as stigmatization, which affects the entire recovery.

Opis:
Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) lead to substantial mortality and morbidity worldwide. The most common NCDs are cardiovascular diseases (CVD), diabetes, cancer and chronic respiratory diseases. With the rapid increase in NCD-related deaths in Asia Pacific countries, NCDs are now the major cause of deaths and disease burden in the region. NCDs hamper achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG). People in the low socio-economic group are most affected by NCDs as they have poor access to policies, legislations, regulations and healthcare services meant to combat NCDs. This results in loss of productivity by a decreasing labor force with implications at the macroeconomic level. The 3 major NCDs in the Asia Pacific region are CVDs, cancer and diabetes due to the increasing loss of disability adjusted life years (DALYs). The 4 major behavioral risk factors for NCDs are: tobacco use, alcohol consumption, inadequate physical activity and unhealthy diet. The underlying risk factors are urbanization, globalization, sedentary lifestyle, obesity and hypertension. Strategies to combat NCDs in the Asia Pacific region are as follows: population-based dietary salt reduction, health education, psychological interventions, i.e., cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational-interviewing, taxation and bans on tobacco-related advertisements, implementing smoke-free zones and surveillance by the World Health Organization. Control measures must focus on prevention and strengthening inter-sectorial collaboration.

Community-based case management of malaria has been shown to be effective in reducing mortality and morbidity. Overall total of 183 communities comprising 36(19.7%) communities in Egba Goe-Political Zone (GPZ), 56(30.6%) in Yewa-Awori GPZ, 43(23.5%) in Remo GPZ, and 48(26.2%) in Ijebu GPZ. There was a significant (p = 0.011) difference between preventive measures against malaria adopted for children across LGAs. Involvement in environmental management /sanitation as part of control measure (78.0%) can mostly help in tackling the adverse effects of malaria parasites transmission. They also agreed that mosquitoes breed majorly in stagnant water (77%) and Ponds (74.6%) and they did not always use (54.4%) their ITN/LLITN and their family mostly used ITN/LLITN during rainy season (84.4%). Fresh-water Rain Forest (44.3%) and Lowland Rain Forest (43.2%) are common forest vegetation types. Communities having plains topographical structure were more (91.3%) with close/compact (54.6%) type of settlement and are more densely populated (51.9%). Water bodies present are small rivers (100%). House type common in the communities was mud with iron sheets (100%) and drainage system (36.2%) was not common. Communities Involvement in environmental management/sanitation as part of control measure will reduce malaria parasite transmission.

Purpose: To assess the degree of independence in physical activities of daily living for patients under long-term in-home nursing care; to evaluate any changes in physical activities of daily living at entry and after 90 days of in-home nursing care. Materials and methods: InterRAI-HC (Residental Assessment Instrument – Home Care) questionnaire was used as a tool according to the protocol and assessed patients at entry and again after 90 days. The participants consisted of 100 consecutive patients who were newly admitted to long-term in-home nursing care. Results: The analysis of total dependence showed that more than 50% of patients were entirely dependent in eight out of ten specified physical activities of daily living (except mobility in bed and food consumption). Intention to treat analysis was performed; the percentages of patients totally dependent in performing eating and mobility in bed actions increased significantly by the 90-day follow-up. Also a comparison of the mean value of independence for analyzed activities did not change significantly over the 90 days, with the only exception being the mean value of independence for dressing up the upper part of the body, which significantly improved after 90 days per protocol analysis. A high mortality rate is noted among these patients (15% by the 90 day follow-up). This probably resulted from the restrictive qualification criteria used in Poland for patients to receive this form of in-home healthcare service. Conclusions: The majority of patients who are under long-term in-home nursing care in Poland are entirely dependent when it comes to the physical activities of daily living.

Opis:
A pumped storage power plant produces significant noise such that adjacent areas were deemed uninhabitable for the local population. In recent years, the population in the area has increased, and the noise levels are now causing significant distress to the local population. The company operating the power plant and a citizens’ initiative have both commissioned noise measurements. The measurements showed that the continuous pump noise was audible over many kilometers. The A-weighted sound-pressure level of 50 dBA at the next residential area underestimates the perceived noise, given the clear tonal nature in the low frequency range. Interviews of the exposed population, together with detailed “annoyance diaries” by a sample of the residents, proved their high level of annoyance. Their reported observations on distress and sleep disturbances coincide with the time course of the pumping operation. The pumping noise leads to annoyance in a large area, and to considerable nuisance in a smaller one. For the most exposed homes, long-term exposure might be considered a health hazard due to stress and disturbances in sleep quality. Therefore, the operator committed to developing a technical noise control plan. This case shows that a scientific approach within a complex environmental noise problem can foster an agreement about noise protection measures. However, this can only be successful if all involved parties participate in the process. Pilot studies are underway to test the impact of damping material layers on the pipes, the housing of the pipes, and the kind of air vessel solutions between the pumps and the pipes. Opis:
Territorial bonds are an integrated part with of the wider phenomenon, namely social bond. In a world literature, territorial bonds are defined as “place attachment”, “place dependence”, “sense of place”, and “place identity”. In the article, there has been presented an idea of territorial bonds underlying significance of trust in networks. In the light of the above-mentioned issues, it was described an author’s own conception called Community-based Social Farming (CSF). The project description concentrates on territorial bonds. The CFS project is located in rural areas based on nature-oriented sustainable development and highlights the value of health, healthy lifestyle, optimal diet, as well as history and promotion of a regionalism, its culture, and recreation. CSF as a social network of territorial connections joints various social actors from rural areas, cities, outskirts, within the confines of common space (territory). Trust is the main determinant of territorial networking − social and economic relationship between identities, stakeholders, and social groups.

This article consists of two parts describing the theory and practice of the idea of a Community Design Centre. It makes one of the basis services offered by socially committed architecture. An individual architectural design has its investor, contractor and user who need a designer. In the community - based approach, an entire social group is acknowledged as the contractor, the investor and the user. This produces a completely different manner of designing and offers various possibilities of cooperation and interaction.
