    Opis:
    Germany is an example of a country which has been implementing transitional justice for decades and is still active in this field. What is more, contemporary Germans have recently come to terms with their not-so-distant past and their negligence in this area by showing the falsehood, backwardness, and injustice as negative foundations of the young Federal Republic. This article evokes the person of Fritz Bauer, the prosecutor in the state of Hessen. His struggle for human dignity and the memory of his achievements after his death exemplify an accomplished case of transitional justice and the memory of it. During his lifetime he contributed to bringing to trial numerous Nazi criminals, even at the cost of habitual threats and disregard. Forgotten for a few decades, Bauer and his legacy have been recently rediscovered and studied. Eventually, Bauer became a movie character and was finally brought back to the collective memory of Germans. The belated, but a well-deserved wave of popularity of Fritz Bauer in the German culture memory proves that reflections on the transitional justice are still topical and important.

    This article is a reflection on the category of authenticity in cinema, based on Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck's movie The Lives of Others (German: Das Leben der Anderen). The action of the film takes place in the late 1980s in East Berlin. The film can be classified as belonging to the category of “coming to terms with the past” and may be treated as a representation of collective memory concerning Berlin, as it depicts Berlin and the former institutions of communist terror. However, it is also an important statement about German collective memory in general. The focal point in the debate on this film is the category of authenticity, which I attempt to trace in the topography of Berlin related to the communist past present in the movie. The main problem is the juxtaposition of materialized and authentic forms of remembering (e.g. buildings, the streets of Berlin) with a fictional story. In case of this movie, it turns out that the pursuit of authenticity to some extent violates taboos of German collective memory, as it conflicts with the canon of official memory, as well as, in some cases, the canon of the audience’s memory (many of whom can still recall the communist past).

    The historiographical article looks at “1945” as a turning point, inquiring whether the end of both the Second World War and National Socialism also implied a radical break for art history in Germany. In evaluating both contemporary perspectives (like Herbert von Einem’s opening lecture of the First German Art Historians Meeting in 1948) and recent historiographical studies, the paper questions the concept of “Stunde Null” or “hour zero,” and intends to challenge the established paradigm of rupture and discontinuity. Arguing for a more nuanced and holistic understanding of the transformation processes in the postwar situation, three major reasons are identified why simplistic categorizations often prevail: (1) a very narrow definition of the art historian in the history of art history, (2) the disjunction between the humanities and the larger political context, which allow the individual to imagine himself/herself untainted and uncompromised by ideology, and (3) the high degree of continuity, in particular if compared to the radical changes that took place in 1933. The article thus resumes that the idea of “turning points” deserves further differentiation, and calls for the integration of the political dimension into historiography. Essentially, the challenge remains to distinguish between factual processes, false or fraudulent labelling, and symbolic gestures.

    Das Werk Manfred Peter Heins, der zwei Jahre vor Hitlers Machtantritt in Ostpreußen geboren wurde, in Westdeutschland studiert hat und Ende der 50er Jahre nach Finnland übergesiedelt ist, wurde bisher primär unter der Perspektive analysiert, wie er – etwa in der Nachfolge Johannes Bobrowskis – mit dem Thema „Vergangenheitsbewältigung“ umgegangen ist bzw. mit dem gerade im polnisch-deutschen Kontext brisanten Thema „Flucht und Vertreibung“. Der Beitrag soll zeigen, dass diese inhaltliche Festlegung dem Themen- und Perspektivenreichtum vor allem seiner Lyrik nicht gerecht wird, dass zu seiner Welt noch andere Regionen gehören als „nur“ die östlichen Nachbarländer Deutschlands.
    Manfred Peter Hein urodził się w Prusach Wschodnich dwa lata przed objęciem władzy przez Hitlera, studiował w Niemczech Zachodnich i pod koniec lat pięćdziesiątych wyemigrował do Finlandii. Jego dzieło analizowano dotychczas głównie z perspektywy tego, w jaki sposób – jako następca np. Johannesa Bobrowskiego – odnosił się do tematu „przezwyciężania przeszłości“ lub aktualnego szczególnie w stosunkach polsko-niemieckich zagadnienia „ucieczki i wypędzenia“. Niniejszy przyczynek stawia sobie za cel pokazanie, że takie treściowe zawężenie nie wyczerpuje bogactwa tematycznego i wieloperspektywiczności przede wszystkim liryki pisarza i że świat przedstawiony w jego utworach obejmuje jeszcze inne regiony niż „tylko“ wschodnich sąsiadów Niemiec.
    The work of Manfred Peter Hein, who was born in East Prussia two years prior to Hitler’s accession to power, studied in West Germany and emigrated to Finland in the late 50s, has primarily been analysed from the perspective of how he – for example in the wake of Johannes Bobrowski – deals with the process of coming to terms with the past, or rather the, in a Polish-German context, highly sensitive theme of „flight and expulsion“. This essay should demonstrate that this limited view is not justified given the richness of themes and perspectives found in his poetry, in particular; that his world consists of other regions than „only“ the eastern neighbouring countries of Germany.
