The development of combustion systems construction is associated with the possibility of increasing the thermal or overall efficiency of an internal combustion engine. The combustion systems currently in use (mainly related to direct fuel injection) are increasingly being replaced by hybrid systems, including direct and indirect injection. Another alternative is the use of prechambers in new combustion systems. This article concerns the thermodynamic aspect of this issue – namely, the assessment of the inter-chamber f low of a marine engine equipped with a prechamber combustion spark ignition system. The research was carried out using mainly one-dimensional simulation apparatus, and detailed analyses were presented using three-dimensional modeling. The tests included the engine model at medium load. Differences in mass f lows were shown at different diameters and different numbers of holes from the preliminary chamber (while maintaining the same cross-sectional area). Similar values of excess air coefficient during ignition of the fuel dose in the prechamber were observed, which resulted in changes in the f low between the prechamber and the main chamber. The differences in mass f low affected the temperatures achieved in the individual combustion chambers. Based on three-dimensional analyses, the mass transfer rate between the chambers and the temperature distribution were assessed during fuel ignition initiated in the prechamber.

The calculation of the changing of the combustion mixture composition during the combustion process of the CH4 is presented of the paper. Correct calculation results of the mixture composition during the combustion process in combustion chambers of internal combustion engines is important to define the heat release calculation, modeling and simulation of the combustion phenomena. The paper presents results of calculations for the GriMech 3 kinetic mechanism of the methane combustion for different thermodynamic parameters and the composition of the combusted mixture. Results of the kinetic calculation of combustion process are qualitatively consistent with the data available in literature. The second purpose of research was the approximation of obtained results with the trained artificial neural network. Input data needed to approximate mole fractions of considered in the GriMech 3 mechanism combustion process chemical species consisted of 52 mole fractions of initial chemical species and temperature and pressure process. For all considered chemical species the mean square error did not exceed a value of 1-10-2 %, but the maximum error for a single value of 43 species excess even more than 100% of the value of mole fraction values taken from kinetic calculations. Single values of errors disqualify the neural network application for modeling of mole fractions of chemical species.

Opis:
Artykuł zawiera opis modelu matematycznego spalania biomasy w palenisku rusztowym oparty na równaniach bilansu masy i energii dla poszczególnych etapów procesu. Uzyskany w ten sposób model empiryczny pozwoli na analizę poszczególnych etapów termicznego rozkładu biomasy na ruszcie oraz mających na nią wpływ parametrów procesowych. Wyniki przeprowadzonych badań zostaną wykorzystane do analizy pracy systemów spalania biomasy w warunkach rzeczywistych.
There is still a lack of theoretical study and practical experience, which could be used to deal with combustion characteristics of biomass. In this paper the governing equations for biomass combustion in an inclined grate furnace are described and relevant sub-models are presented. The empirical mode! provides information about thermal decomposition of biomass on the grate and parameters influencing the process. The investigation results should be employed in the analysis of biomass thermal decomposition in real conditions.
