The basic theses of a semantic and cognitive approach to study of metaphors, developed by the author, are set forth in the article. This approach implies interpretation of metaphor as a mental and verbal construct. The principles, methods and technique of the corpus semantic and cognitive analysis of metaphors research are described, the prospects of its development are outlined.
В статье изложены основные положения разработанного автором семантико-когнитивного подхода к изучению метафоры, при котором она рассматривается как ментально-вербальный конструкт. Описаны принципы, методы и методика корпусного семантико-когнитивного исследования метафор, намечены перспективы его развития.

Artykuł poświęcony jest analizie konstrukcji z narzędnikiem porównawczym przez pryzmat podejścia kognitywno-onomazjologicznego. Niedostateczny stan badań w tym kierunku warunkuje ich aktualność. Celem pracy jest określenie głównych typów motywacyjnych dla porównania z nieregularną nieciągłością i wyjaśnienie specyfiki ich funkcjonowania. Określono ramę modalną narzędnika porównawczego, wyznaczono sytuacje, w których występuje ten przypadek, zdefiniowano mechanizmy powstawania atrybutywnego znaczenia narzędnika porównawczego przyimkowego i przyczasownikowego. Ustalono, że nie wszystkie z motywacyjnych typów są produktywne przy tworzeniu takich porównań. Wskazano obecność szacującego składnika w strukturach o motywacji modalnej, co przyczynia się do wyrażenia wielu subiektywno-modalnych wartości. Określono istotę poznawczą struktur z narzędnikiem porównawczym, w których obserwuje się motywację skojarzeniową. Wymieniono mentalne osobliwości budowy porównania z narzędnikiem porównawczym (ablativus comparativus).
The article examines structures with the comparative ablative through the prism of the cognitive and onomasiological approach. The fragmented coverage of the problem determines the topicality of the research. The aim is to identify the main motivation for comparativemes in ablative case and clarify the specificity of their functioning. The modus frame of the ablative comparative is outlined, the situations where this case appears are described, the mechanisms of the origin of the attributive meaning of the ablative comparative case used with nouns and verbs are defined. It is demonstrated that not all motivational types are productive for the formation of such comparatives. The evaluative component is singled out in structures with modus motivation, this promoting a range of subjective and modal meanings. The cognitive nature of ablative comparative structures with associative motivation is elucidated. Mental procedures shaping structures with the ablative comparative case are determined.

The present article aims to present a transdiagnostic approach to eating disorders (anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and eating disorders not otherwise specified) using the example of two relatively new types of therapy: Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), based on Fairburn’s model, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Theoretical frameworks, psychopathology, proposed change mechanisms, as well as objectives and selected therapeutic techniques are discussed for both approaches. Directions for further research comparing the efficacy of the two approaches, the factors that moderate their outcomes, and the possibilities of integrating the two models are also suggested.

Towards a unified, socio-cognitive approach to language-mediated intercultural competenceVery few intercultural competence (IC) models include language, and those that do so portray the notion in an inconsonant manner. Nonetheless, research shows that language assures successful intercultural communication. Thus, this article stresses the need for a unified socio-cognitive approach which will introduce common and solid foundations for the role and nature of both language and IC. The article demonstrates that such an integrated framework, built on a reappraised notion of language, helps to overcome numerous dichotomies within IC models and leads to the emergence of a unified approach to language-mediated IC. W kierunku ujednoliconego, socjo-kognitywnego podejścia do kompetencji interkulturowej opartego na językuNieliczne modele kompetencji interkulturowej (ang. IC) uwzględniają język, a te, które to robią, przedstawiają to pojęcie w niekonsekwentny sposób. Jednak badania pokazują, że język jest gwarantem efektywnej komunikacji interkulturowej. Niniejszy artykuł podkreśla potrzebę ujednoliconego podejścia socjo-kognitywnego, które oparte jest na wspólnych podstawach łączących rolę i naturę zarówno języka, jak i kompetencji interkulturowej. W artykule wykazujemy, że takie zintegrowane podejście, zbudowane na przeformułowanej koncepcji języka, pomaga przezwyciężyć liczne dychotomie w modelach kompetencji interkulturowej i prowadzi do powstania jednolitego podejścia do kompetencji interkulturowej opartej na języku.

This paper aims to recount a shared experience of some psychology students – an intellectual adventure of exploring one’s own approach towards human relations and nature on the way to becoming a psychotherapist. To become practitioners, the students need to choose a certain psychotherapeutic training based on one of the main psychotherapeutic theoretical approaches. The following are mentioned in this paper: psychoanalysis, cognitivebehavioral therapy, humanistic/existential and the postmodern narrative approach. Exploring the assumptions underlying different modalities and practices is also considered here to be an ethical challenge. It is reckoned that the choice of a specific psychotherapeutical practice bound to a theory shapes the identity of the therapist and the patients, forms the language and behaviour through which the future therapist will express his own Self and influence the Other. Referring to postmodern inspirations, the author speaks in favour of making an endless effort of recognizing the assumptions underlying different practices – as the only way for not taking a potentially violent and impervious attitude in the relationship between the therapist and the patient.

The aim of this paper is to use cognitive approach in order to analyse the topic of religion in two novels by Iain Banks. I argue that in both The Wasp Factory and Consider Phlebas Banks presents divine thoughts as cognitively natural for humans, since, according to neuroscience, the propensity for religiosity is inborn and universal. Banks’s novels show that people have an innate need to fill space with agents, and cannot refrain from ascribing illusory purpose to the cruel chaos of the surrounding world.

The work presents the results of research that focus on creating high-quality public space through the involvement of society and taking into account the opinions of various stakeholder groups. The main goal is to understand how the concepts of "man-space-management" can be integrated in the process of creating high-quality public places in accordance with the principles of UN-Habitat. An important research aspect is the development of FCM (Fuzzy Cognitive Maps) models and various scenarios for the development of public space, which will enable the effective use of financial resources by the government, non-governmental organizations and private investors. The research is based on the opinions of the Zielona Góra community, which were collected through "placegame" workshops and questionnaires.
Praca prezentuje wyniki badań, które skupiają się na tworzeniu wysokiej jakości przestrzeni publicznej poprzez zaangażowanie społeczeństwa i uwzględnienie opinii różnych grup interesariuszy. Głównym celem jest zrozumienie, w jaki sposób można integrować koncepcje "człowiek-przestrzeń-zarządzanie" w procesie kreacji miejsc publicznych o wysokiej jakości, zgodnych z zasadami ONZ Habitat. Istotnym aspektem badawczym jest opracowanie modeli FCM (Fuzzy Cognitive Maps) oraz różnych scenariuszy rozwoju przestrzeni publicznej, które umożliwią efektywne wykorzystanie zasobów finansowych przez samorząd, organizacje pozarządowe i prywatnych inwestorów. Badania opierają się na opiniach społeczności miasta Zielona Góra, które zostały zebrane za pomocą warsztatów "placegame" oraz kwestionariuszy.

Das im alttestamentarischen Buch der Weisheit Salomos enthaltene Hohelied ist ein leidenschaftliches erotisches Liebesgedicht, das Prototyp der Liebeslyrik, das uralte, faszinierende, sinnliche Empfindungen und Wünsche von Mensch und ... Gott ausdrückt. Der Text hat zahlreiche Interpretationen in unterschiedlichen Strömungen erfahren, u.a. natürliche, kultisch-mythische, allegorische oder auch theologische Interpretation. Der Artikel verfolgt das Ziel, die einzigartige, multisensorische Veranschaulichung der Liebe zwischen Mann und Frau in körperlich-seelischer Dimension mit Hilfe der Metapher einer verkörperten Erfahrung von Sacrum und Profanum aufzuzeigen und zu beweisen, dass es keinen Dualismus dieser zwei Dimensionen gibt, sondern nur gegenseitige Beeinflussung. Die Verfasserin führt eine Analyse ausgewählter Metaphern und Metonymien des Textes in der Übersetzung von Czesław Miłosz unter Verwendung der kognitiven Methode von G. Lakoff und M. Johnson durch.
Song of Songs, included in the Old Testament Book of Wisdom is a passionate erotic poem, a prototype of love lyrical poetry which expresses perennial, fascinating, sensual sensations and human desires. The text has been the subject of numerous interpretations in various perspectives, among others: natural (pastoral), cult and mystical, allegorical or theological. It also stimulated quite provocative radical interpretations as it is a text one cannot go by indifferently. The aim of this paper is to analyze briefly a selected Sacrum/profanum metaphor via cognitive approach and indicate there is no dualism but rather mutual overlapping of those two spheres.
Pieśń nad Pieśniami zawarta w starotestamentowej księdze mądrościowej Salomona to namiętny erotyk, prototyp liryki miłosnej, który wyraża odwieczne, fascynujące, zmysłowe doznania i pragnienia człowieka i …Boga. Tekst doczekał się licznych interpretacji w różnych nurtach , m.in. interpretacja naturalna, kultowo-mityczna, alegoryczna, czy też teologiczna. Celem artykułu jest pokazanie unikatowego, wielosensorycznego obrazowania miłości pomiędzy mężczyzną a kobietą w wymiarze fizyczno-duchowym  za pomocą metafory ucieleśnionego doświadczenia Sacrum i profanum i wykazanie, że nie istnieje dualizm tych dwóch wymiarów, a jedynie wzajemne przenikanie. Autorka dokonuje analizy wybranych metafor i metonimii tekstu w przekładzie Czesława Miłosza z zastosowaniem metody kognitywnej G. Lakoffa i M. Johnsona.

The paper presents a system of exercises, concerning Onelio Jorge Cardoso’s story Francisca and death, regulated by the cognitive, communicative and socio-cultural approach that integrates grammatical, lexical and pragmatic contents based on cultural ones. The following methods and techniques were used in this study: historical-logical, hermeneutic, analysis-synthesis, systemic-structural as well as a survey of specialists and experts. The methodological description of the exercises was elaborated to guide the teacher's work. The didactic proposal constitutes a guide for the systematization of the approach taken as a reference in the daily practice of teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language.
Se concibió un sistema de ejercicios a partir del cuento Francisca y la muerte, de Onelio Jorge Cardoso, regido por el enfoque cognitivo, comunicativo y sociocultural que integra los contenidos gramaticales, léxicos y pragmáticos en función de los culturales. Para ello, se usaron los métodos y técnicas: Histórico-lógico, Hermenéutico, Análisis-síntesis, Sistémico-estructural y la encuesta a especialistas y expertos. Se elaboró la descripción metodológica de los ejercicios para orientar el trabajo del profesor. La propuesta didáctica constituye una guía para la sistematización del enfoque tomado como referencia en la práctica cotidiana de la enseñanza del español como lengua extranjera.

Łagodzenie i adaptacja do zmian klimatu to dwa krytyczne wyzwania cywilizacyjne, wobec których staje wiele podmiotów społecznych. Celem artykułu jest analiza fenomenu polskich ruchów społecznych na rzecz sprawiedliwości klimatycznej za pomocą „podejścia poznawczego”, wprowadzonego i rozwijanego przez Rona Eyermana i Andrew Jamisona. Artykuł podejmuje dwa główne problemy. Po pierwsze, zawiera rekonstrukcję konceptualno-metodologicznych ram dla badań nad aktywizmem na rzecz sprawiedliwości klimatycznej. Po drugie, prezentuje wstępne rozpoznanie uniwersów poznawczych i praktyk polskich ruchów na rzecz sprawiedliwości klimatycznej, opierając się na desk research oraz badaniach opartych na 30 wywiadach pogłębionych przeprowa dzonych w trzech polskich miastach (Poznań, Wrocław, Warszawa). Artykuł wskazuje również na luki badawcze, identyfikując przede wszystkim potrzebę większego zaangażowania nauk społecznych w działania na rzecz łagodzenia zmian klimatu, w tym otwarcia środowiska akademickiego na perspektywy oddolne.
Mitigating and adapting to climate change are two critical civilizational challenges nowadays, and many social actors are facing them. The paper’s objective is to analyse the phenomenon of Polish climate justice social movements through the use of the ‘cognitive approach’, introduced and developed by Ron Eyerman and Andrew Jamison. The article addresses two main issues. First, it attempts to reconstruct a conceptual-methodological framework for research on environmental activism. Second, it presents a preliminary presentation of the cognitive universes and practices of Polish climate justice movements based on the findings from desk research and an empirical investigation based on 30 in-depth interviews conducted in three Polish cities (Poznań, Wrocław, Warszawa). The article also addresses research gaps while pointing out the need for greater involvement of the social sciences in climate change mitigation measures, including opening up academia to bottom-up perspectives.

Opis:
Current changes in the social organization of work require a rethinking of guidance practices. In the field of vocational guidance, Life Design, based on the theories of self-construction of Guichard and career construction of Savickas, aims to be a lifelong, holistic, contextual, and preventive framework that responds to current challenges by focusing on individual development via the meaning one gives to his or her own discourses. This article highlights the place that these challenges and objectives are approached in schools. Drawing from the concept of Guidance Oriented Approach to Learning (GOAL) and the social cognitive theory of career and academic interest, we present a framework to implement a logic of accompaniment and personal development, rather than a logic of selection, in the school guidance process. The framework lays foundations to identify and develop career guidance skills for pupils that are relevant to the complex 21st century challenges faced by the future generation. It also provides guidelines to develop relevant educational tools that can contribute to pupils’ empowerment as citizens that can understand and structure society and make reflexive choices for their personal development.
Obecne zmiany w społecznej organizacji pracy wymagają ponownego przemyślenia praktyk stosowanych w poradnictwie. W dziedzinie poradnictwa kariery zwanej Life Design (Projektowanie Życia), opartej na teoriach: „Konstruowania JA” opracowanej przez Jeana Guicharda i „Konstruowania kariery” autorstwa Marka Savickasa, dąży się do stworzenia obejmujących całe życie, holistycznych, kontekstowych i profilaktycznych ram pomocy, będącej w stanie sprostać współczesnym wyzwaniom dzięki skupieniu się na rozwoju indywidualnym realizowanym poprzez nadawane znaczenia tworzonym przez siebie dyskursom. Niniejszy artykuł podkreśla rolę, jaką odgrywa w realizacji tych wyzwań i celów szkoła. Na podstawie koncepcji Life Design oraz społeczno-poznawczej teorii uczenia się przedstawiamy - pod nazwą Guidance Oriented Approach to Learning (GOAL) - ramy projektu wdrażania pomocy opartej na logice towarzyszenia w rozwoju osobistym, nie zaś logice selekcji, przypisywanej procesom poradnictwa zawodowego wcześniej realizowanego w szkołach. Ramy te stanowią podwaliny umożliwiające zidentyfikowanie metod sprzyjających rozwijaniu takich umiejętności konstruowania kariery przez uczniów, które będą adekwatne do kompleksowych wyzwań, przed jakimi stanie przyszłe pokolenie w XXI wieku. Jednocześnie dostarczają one wskazówek w zakresie opracowywania adekwatnych narzędzi edukacyjnych, zorientowanych na upodmiotowienie uczniów jako obywateli rozumiejących i kształtujących społeczeństwo oraz refleksyjnie dokonujących wyborów osobistego rozwoju.

Opis:
The paper analyses figurative applications of phrases containing words connected with human seeing (e.g. the verbs see, look, espy, nouns like sight, look, eye and adjectives such as blynd). It shows the motivation for metaphoric expressions used by Chaucer to express his thoughts and visions in a most vivid and precise way and their further development in the language system. The analysis is based on the data obtained from Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales (Ellesmere MS), the Oxford English Dictionary online and the Middle English Dictionary. As regards its theoretical basis it refers to Lakoff–Johnson’s theory of cognitive metaphor.

Opis:
The aim of the paper is to investigate the possibility (1) to harmonize the linguistic multi-level discourse analysis model DIMEAN by Warnke/Spitzmüller (2008) with M. H. Freeman’s (2000, 2006) cognitive approach to literary texts and translation; and (2) to include into the DIMEAN model the notion of subjectification/objectification as proposed by Langacker (1985). For this purpose, the science-fiction story “BLIT” (1988) of the so-called Basilisk series by D. Langford is to be examined. It is anticipated that the proposed modifications/enhancements of the DIMEAN model will make it possible to better reconstruct the conceptual and linguistic universe of the text under examination. It seems that such reconstruction, to be comprehensive and conducted in a minimally subjective manner, should be done according to clear criteria applied in a well-ordered analysis. The DIMEAN model appears to be well-suited for the purposes of such text analysis since it is clearly organized and provides a comprehensive (yet open-ended) list of aspects. Although the model initially was not designed for a literary text analysis, I share the opinion of Ulla Fix (2016), who, in her article, shows that DIMEAN can successfully be applied to literary texts. The results of the examination show that the proposed mode of text examination allows to identify salient features of the text-world, especially those to be translated, and issues potentially problematic for translation.
Das Ziel des Beitrags ist eine Untersuchung, ob und inwieweit es möglich ist (1) das diskurslinguistische Mehr-Ebenen Analysemodell (DIMEAN) von Warnke/Spitzmüller (2008) mit der kognitiven Herangehensweise an literarische Texte und ihre Übersetzung von M. H. Freeman (2000, 2006) in Einklang zu bringen, (2) in das DIMEAN Modell die Auffassung von Langacker (1985) von Subjektifizierung/ Objektifizierung miteinzubeziehen. Zu diesem Zweck wird die Science-Fiction-Erzählung „BLIT“ (1988) aus der so-genannten Basilisk-Reihe von D. Langford untersucht. Es wird angenommen, dass mit den vorgeschlagenen Modifikationen/Anreicherungen des DIMEAN Modells das konzeptuelle Universum des untersuchten Textes besser rekonstruiert werden kann. Solch eine Rekonstruktion, um umfassend und minimal subjektiv zu sein, sollte nach klaren Kriterien in einem gut strukturierten Analyseverfahren durchgeführt werden. Das DIMEAN Modell scheint für solch eine Analyse gut geeignet zu sein, weil es klar geordnet ist und eine umfassende (dennoch offene) Liste der Aspekte liefert, die untersucht werden können. Obwohl das Modell ursprünglich nicht zum Zwecke der Analyse literarischer Texte entworfen wurde, stimmen wir der Meinung von Ulla Fix (2016) zu, die in ihrem Beitrag zeigt, dass DIMEAN zur solch einer Untersuchung verwendet werden kann. Die Analyse zeigt, dass das vorgeschlagene Analyseverfahren es ermöglicht, die insbesondere für eine Übersetzung bedeutendsten Merkmale sowie die potentiell für eine Übersetzung problematischen Stellen zu identifizieren.
