Opis:
Kozienice Forest (central Poland) belongs to very valuable areas from touristic and ecological point of view. Water resources are important factor of further development of this region. Analysis of 49−year (1963−2011) annual and seasonal rainfall and runoff characteristics from a small (82 km²) catchment of Zagożdżonka River, with forestation ratio of 0.40, indicated a statistically significant decrease for six of the nine considered parameters. Mann−Kendall test was used for trend analysis. Decreased trend was indicated for annual runoff and annual runoff coefficient, median discharge, summer half−year runoff coefficient, median summer discharge and for low mean 30−day discharge. No trend was detected for annual precipitation and summer half year precipitation nor for summer half year runoff.

Opis:
This study is an attempt to provide a comprehensive and synthetic characterisation of Słupsk climate based on a homogeneous series of daily measurements covering the longest possible period. Apart from the temperature and precipitation profiles derived from a 58-year examination record (1950-2007), the climate analysis also presents the distribution of other key weather components (atmospheric pressure, wind, relative humidity and cloud cover) in a shorter (1991-2007) time-span. The paper, which is a summary of the existing research into Słupsk climate, is directed not only at geographers (for whom it may be a significant reference in research concerning weather conditions in other Polish towns), but also at local residents and tourists, who choose Słupsk as their holiday destination.

Changes in thermal and precipitation impacts to enviromental and economical conditions. Poland, who is one of fruits producer in Europe, can be fell changing in horticulture context. Statistical analysis on the basis of thermal-percipitation data from meteorogical station in Łącko, which is one on the oldest horticulture in Poland. This mountain region is unique in the country. However, the occurring thermal inversion and the microclimate makes horticulture to a very advanced level. Thermal and rainfall conditions may be change the nature of the land development in the future. The analyse results showed that thermal-precipitations changing fastest occur in summer season, next in spring. We increasingly recorded heat waves and hot days, which may cause economic losses. However, the occurrence of frosty and very frosty days is decreasing.

Opis:
Bibliometric analysis is a research method that is used to identify research gaps and the potential paths of empiric exploration of such categories that seemingly have been studied, but which in which enormous scientific and utilitarian capabilities remain undiscovered. Sustainable development is one such category. The purpose of this article is to present the development and evolution of scientific literature on sustainable development, and the research goal is to forecast the developmental directions for this category. Bibliometric analysis was used in the research. Scopus, the international interdisciplinary database, was the data source. Maps of co-occurrence of keywords relating to sustainable development were prepared in VOSviewer ver. 1.6.19. The results of the research provided new and crucial knowledge about the features of contemporary literature on sustainable development, determined following analysis of the content of selected open access journals that are representative for this field. The chronological aspect of research of the concept of sustainable development was also underlined. This, in the context of management development, resulted in essential conclusions and results pointing to the potential directions of development of the analysed area. The results also identify the key publications and journals for the subject being researched. This is one of the few works which features a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of sustainable development (Díaz-López et al., 2021; Nobanee et al., 2021; Yamaguchi et al., 2023; Zhu & Hua, 2017). The added value of the analyses is the information that was prepared in the form of rankings using bibliometric indicators such as the number of citations, number of articles cited, and the map of co-cited journals.

Opis:
The present study investigates the influence of seasonal dynamics on macrobenthic assemblages in four seasons of 2017—2018 from the central sector of Indian Sundarbans which is under the constant threat of climate change. Besides taxonomic analysis, a traitbased approach has also been applied to assess the change in their ecosystem functioning. The maximum species density (11675 ± 11883.31 ind. m−2) was observed during the spring season which declines considerably in the monsoon season (5875 ± 6224.08 ind. m−2). A total of 95 macrobenthic taxa were recorded from Sundarbans and they were dominated by families like Capitellidae, Donacidae, Magelonidae, Nereididae, Paraonidae and Spionidae. Overall, polychaetes have shown higher taxonomic and functional variation than other groups. Opportunistic polychaete species have shown a prominent compositional shift during post-monsoon seasons. Both the univariate and multivariate analyses have shown a significant relation between macrobenthic composition and environmental parameters. SIMPER has depicted that environmental parameters made the station 4 unique for several types of molluscs like Acteocina estriata, Stenothyra deltae and Meretrix meretrix during spring. Trait percentages also showed a seasonal succession pattern and among the trait categories, burrowers and deposit feeders dominated the estuary. A gradual increase in suspension feeders in spring has been noticed. RLQ approach with fourth-corner analysis was used to unravel the relationship between traits and environmental parameters. Hence, the present study provided a comprehensive idea about the species composition along with their trait categories from such a dynamic habitat. That could be the first stepping stone for a long term monitoring of macrobenthic assemblages from this largest delta on earth.

The National Occupational Exposure Survey (NOES) was used to determine probabilities for 4 potential physical-agent and 10 potential ergonomic-related exposure hazards among a representative sample of U.S. industries. Potential physical-agent hazard exposures, principally whole-body and segmental vibration, were highest among railroad and heavy construction industries. Several construction industries had high probabilities of potential ergonomic-related exposure hazards, especially to the back and upper extremities. Establishments with 100 to 249 employees had the highest probability of potential exposures to the 2 types of hazards. Measures of safety and health climate did not differ consistently between high-hazard and low-hazard establishments. The approach taken in this paper may be used to help identify highrisk industries, evaluate interventions, and develop inspection strategies.

Morpho-anatomical characteristics of Vaccinium myrtillus, V. uliginosum and V. vitis-idaea leaves from several sites of the Central Balkans were examined. The aim of this study was to investigate for the first time morpho-anatomical leaf traits of these species in the studied populations and to identify traits that follow a specific trend along the gradients of climate factors. Leaf traits that discriminate Vaccinium species were as follows: depth of the adaxial cuticule (AdC), thickness of the palisade tissue (PT), thickness of the spongy tissue (ST), height of the abaxial epidermal cells (AbE), height of the abaxial cuticule (AbC) and leaf thickness (LT). Populations of V. myrtillus were characterized by the smallest, and populations of V. vitis-idaea by the highest values for AdC, PT, ST, AbE and LT. Additionally, AbC was significantly larger for V. uliginosum in comparison to two other species. On the basis of morpho-anatomical traits, intraspecific variability of the studied species was explored by Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Cluster Analysis (CA) and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). CA based on 10 morpho-anatomical traits showed that populations of V. myrtillus and V. uliginosum that grew at lower altitudes (characterized by higher mean annual temperature) are more similar to each other. Especially V. myrtillus was responsive to the elevational gradient and exhibited the highest plasticity in morpho-anatomical leaf traits. Populations of V. vitis-idaea had a different pattern of differentiation along the elevational gradient. CA showed that the populations at the lowest and at the highest altitudes were more similar according to the morpho-anatomical leaf traits, meaning that evergreen leaves were more resistant to environmental conditions.

Six input devices; trackballs, pens, and a mouse were tested by 19 participants in a Fitts' target acquisition task with 2 target sizes under 2 experimental conditions; warm and cold right hand. Measures were acquisition times, number of errors, participant's preferences, and observed handling of the devices. Effects of device, target size, and cold were significant. Learning and attempts to improve handgrip were confirmed. Large enough targets, a thick pen, and a mouse make computer work practicable in the cold. Direct visual feedback, as with pen on template with target images, shortened acquisition times by half a second.

Analizując archiwalne dane meteorologiczne pochodzące z Ukrainy, stwierdza się, iż występują w nich wyraźnie anomalie. Oceniając ich występowanie, można dojść do wniosku, że mają one różną genezę. Należy przyjąć, iż część z nich wynika z warunków prowadzenia pomiarów, tj. subiektywnych odczytów danych prowadzonych przez obserwatora szczególnie w odniesieniu do pomiarów ręcznych, bądź z błędów w skalowaniu automatycznych przyrządów pomiarowych.
The analysis of archived meteorological data from Ukraine ascertained that some clear anomalies have been occurring. The analysis of existing anomalies has led to the conclusion that they have different origins. It is assumed that some of them are the result of the conditions of measurement i.e. subjective data readings being conducted by the observer, particularly with reference to manual measurements, or from errors in the automatic measuring instruments scaling. The changing conditions near the meteorological cage can also be the reasons for the occurrence of anomalies in the data. Buildings near the cage area, shrubs and trees can directly affect the results of conducted measurements.

Opis:
There are numerous algorithmic classification methods that attempt to address the connections between different scales of the atmosphere, such as EOFs, clustering, and neural nets. However, their relative strength lies in the description of the mean conditions, whereas extremes are poorly covered by them. A novel approach towards the identification of linkages between large-scale atmospheric fields and local extremes of meteorological parameters is presented in this paper. The principle is that a small number of objectively selected fields can be used to circumscribe a local meteorological parameter by way of regression. For each day, the regression coefficients form a kind of pattern which is used for a classification based on similarity. As it turns out, several classes are generated which contain days that constitute extreme atmospheric conditions and from which local meteorological parameters can be computed, yielding an indirect way of determining these local extremes just from large-scale information. The range of applications is large. (i) Not only local meteorological parameters can be subjected to such a regression based classification procedure. It can be extended to extreme indicators, such as threshold exceedances, yielding on the one hand the relevant atmospheric fields to describe those indicators, and on the other hand grouping days with “favourable atmospheric conditions”. This approach can be further extended by investigating networks of measurement stations from a region and describing, e.g., the probability for threshold exceedances at a given percentage of the network. (ii) The method can not only be used as a filtering tool to supply days in the current climate with extreme conditions, identified in an objective way. The method can be applied to climate model projections, using the previously found parameter-specific combinations of atmospheric fields. From those fields, as they constitute the modelled future climate, local time series can be generated which are then analysed with respect to the frequency and magnitude of future extremes. The method has sensitivities (i) due to the degree to which there are connections between large-scale fields and local meteorological parameters (measured, e.g., by the correlation) and (ii) due to the varying quality of the different fields (geopotential, temperature, humidity etc.) projected by the climate model.

Opis:
Pilotage operations require close interaction between human and machines. This complex sociotechnical system is necessary to safely and efficiently maneuver a vessel in constrained waters. A sociotechnical system consists of interdependent human- and technical variables that continuously must work together to be successful. This complexity is prone to errors, and statistics show that most these errors in the maritime domain are due to human components in the system (80 ? 85%). This explains the attention on research to reduce human errors. The current study deployed a systematic human error reduction and prediction approach (SHERPA) to shed light on error types and error remedies apparent in pilotage operations. Data was collected using interviews and observation. Hierarchical task analysis was performed and 55 tasks were analyzed using SHERPA. Findings suggests that communication and action omission errors are most prone to human errors in pilotage operations. Practical and theoretical implications of the results are discussed.

Paintings inevitably bear severe mechanical loads during transportation.Understanding the dynamic characteristics of paintings helps to avoid damage during transportation and to effectively slow down their aging. In this contribution, the vibration characteristics of canvas and primed canvas of paintings and their influencing factors are studied experimentally. For this reason, two dummy paintings with canvas in a common orientation and a tilted orientation are investigated, and an experimental setup using an excitation mechanism and a laser Doppler vibrometer is developed. In order to avoid changes of the modal parameters related to humidity or temperature, all experiments were conducted in a climate box.The modal parameters of dummy paintings are identified by means of experimental modal analysis. Also, the difference in modal properties of the two dummy paintings before and after applying the primer are compared. The identified modal parameters are used to reconstruct their eigenmodes. From the identified modal parameters a numerical model is derived, which is then compared to measurements. The comparison shows a good agreement, hence is a hint for the correctness of assuming a modal structure and the quality of the modal parameter identification.Lastly, with the help of the climate box, the influences of humidity and temperature on the eigenfrequencies of dummy paintings are studied.

In Bangladesh 164 million people depend on rice but due to climate change (CC) vulnerabilities the yield of rice is severely reducing. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the effects of CC on rice yield using recent trend analysis, Mann-Kendall (MK) trend test and correlation. For this study, the required climate and selected rice production data were collected from Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) and Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), Khulna. In time series statistics both parametric and nonparametric methods were applied to detect a monotonic trend of climatic variability and Aman rice production. Correlation between climatic variability and rice production was also investigated. The study exposed that the temperature and rainfall had an increasing trend and statistically significant whereas the relative humidity found decreasing. Overall, the bright Sunshine had positive trend but week. According to nonparametric trend test of climatic variability and Aman yield only minimum temperature showed a positive trend which found statistically significant. In contrast, Mann-Kendall trend test revealed that rainfall had positively significant while temperature had negative significant. The correlation revealed the Aman production is a strong response with minimum temperature whereas the Lona Coche showed a positive correlation with maximum temperature. The variation of Aman production exhibited a positive correlation with both Rainfall and humidity respectively and Lona Coche found a negative correlation. The sunshine had a week correlation against both yields. The findings suggest should give attention of temperature-tolerant rice varieties to mitigate possible adverse effects of CC.

A pollen sequence of Holsteinian/Mazovian age known since the 1980s in Brus (Western Polesie) is the second site with a plant macrofossil record in eastern Poland. High sedimentation rates in a palaeolake that functioned in this area have allowed a detailed climate reconstruction that enabled to trace the Older and Younger Holsteinian oscillations and to outline the water-level changes in the water body. Climate reconstructions, based on full palaeobotanical analyses (pollen and macroremains), were compared with those from Nowiny Żukowskie (Lublin Upland), revealing regional climatic patterns. The two Holsteinian climate oscillations were correlated with those detected in the Dethlingen section of Germany (Koutsodendris et al., 2010), providing more information on the spatial scale of these events.
