Opis:
High cleanliness of a hospital environment is necessary to ensure safe working conditions for the medical staff, a correct process of hospitalization and to protect hospital visitors, an aspect rarely mentioned. A supply of air cleaned in highly-effective air filters to hospital wards with air conditioning systems and exhaust of infected air will help in maintaining the required standards of cleanliness. This article presents information on recommended classes of air and surface cleanliness, with special focus on operating theatres and suites.

Introduction. The operating theatre is one of the most important places in a hospital. Due to the presence of numerous reservoirs of microorganisms and the invasiveness of surgical procedures it is necessary to ensure high hygiene standards in these locations. Objective. The aim of the study was to carry out a qualitative assessment of the microbiological cleanliness of the surfaces and equipment in an operating theatre. Materials and method. The results of microbiological tests of the surfaces and equipment of the Children’s Operating Theatre in Clinical Provincial Hospital No. 2 in Rzeszów, southeast Poland, during 2007–2012 were reviewed retrospectively. Results and conclusions. For the analysis, a total of 1,819 swabs were collected, of which 1.05% were positive. Positive results were obtained mainly from samples taken from moist places (57.9%). Among the microorganisms isolated, Gram- negative bacteria constituted the majority (57.9%), Pseudomonas bacteria were found most frequently (31,6%). Isolated microbes can be the etiological agent of nosocomial infections.

Opis:
This article regards Norwid’s Tajemnica Lorda Singelworth in the context of his anthropology as well as historical and cultural background. The author’s notion of “cleanliness,” inspired in some measure by the Gospels, is connected to the circumstances of both Norwid himself and the main character of his puzzling novella. This reading revolves around the image of a balloon flight during which the Lord – as it is argued, following hints already present in studies of Norwid – discards a piece of paper with “physiological content.” This scene is placed in the context of other literary balloon flights and the eccentricity of Baudelaire’s friend Philoxène Boyer. Finally, the article discusses Norwid’s law of inversion, which can be applied in the case of Singelworth.

Background. Providing safe food products to the consumer depends on the material and technology used and adherence to hygienic practices, throughout the production process. The degree of microbial contamination of a surface is an important indicator of equipment cleanliness and effectiveness of cleaning and disinfection. Used material, construction solutions and quality of the applied devices also have an effect on hygienic status. Objective. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the influence of the design and construction material of selected food storage racks, available on the Polish market, on their hygienic status. Material and methods. The study was based on determination of the capability of microbial growth on the surface of the racks and the effectiveness of their cleaning. Microbiological cleanliness on the surface of the racks was monitored by the contact plates which are able to estimate the total number of microorganisms. Examination of effectiveness of cleaning was conducted by the use of ATP bioluminescence method. Results. This experiment has proven a significant influence of adopted construction solutions on the hygienic status of the examined racks. Presence of antibacterial layer and a choice of the appropriate construction material characterized by a low surface roughness impedes the microbial growth and increases the effectiveness of cleaning. Conclusions. Design solutions have significant impact on the hygienic status of shelves. Selection of a suitable material for the construction of racks can greatly reduce the possibility of the development of microorganism, despite the low efficiency of the cleaning. The application of antimicrobial coatings inhibits microbial growth.
Wprowadzenie. Dostarczanie konsumentowi produktów spożywczych o jak najwyższej jakości, w tym bezpiecznych, uzależnione jest od wykorzystanych surowców, zastosowanej technologii oraz zachowania warunków higienicznych w całym procesie wytwórczym. Stopień zanieczyszczenia mikrobiologicznego powierzchni jest ważnym wskaźnikiem czystości urządzeń oraz prawidłowości procesów mycia i dezynfekcji. Wpływ na higienę urządzeń mają takie czynniki jak zastosowany materiał oraz rozwiązania konstrukcyjne, a także jakość wykonania urządzenia. Cel. Celem pracy była ocena wpływu konstrukcji i użytego materiału na jakość higieniczną wybranych regałów magazynowych, dostępnych na polskim rynku. Materiał i metody. W badaniu sprawdzono zdolność wzrostu drobnoustrojów (ogólna liczba drobnoustrojów) na powierzchniach wybranych regałów. Czystość mikrobiologiczną na powierzchni regałów monitorowano za pomocą płytek kontaktowych do oznaczania ogólnej liczby drobnoustrojów. Oznaczenia wykonano zgodnie z normą PN-ISO 18593 Badanie skuteczności procesu mycia przeprowadzono z wykorzystaniem metody bioluminescencyjnego pomiaru ATP. Wyniki. Doświadczenie wykazało znaczący wpływ zastosowanych rozwiązań konstrukcyjnych na higienę ocenianych regałów. Badania wykazały istotny wpływ rodzaju regału na poziom zanieczyszczenia mikrobiologicznego odnotowanego na powierzchni roboczej regałów oraz na powierzchni połączeń półek ze słupkami nośnymi. Analiza statystyczna wykazała, że w przypadku każdej z prób rodzaj regału miał wpływ na osiągnięte wyniki. Wnioski. Rozwiązania projektowe mają istotny wpływ na higieniczną jakość półek. Dobór odpowiedniego materiału do budowy regałów może znacznie ograniczyć możliwość rozwoju mikroorganizmów, pomimo niskiej efektywności czyszczenia. Zastosowanie powłok antybakteryjnych hamuje wzrost drobnoustrojów.

Technical cleanliness is at the centre of attention in more and more sectors of the automotive industry. Its importance primarily lies in the need to ensure the correct function of components and it is necessary to take into account that impurities can affect the assembly and proper functioning of other components if they are connected together in the working circuit. Requirements for technical cleanliness vary according to the type and function of components and can be divided into two basic areas – chemical cleanliness (for example, lubricant contamination) and particulate cleanliness (particles and fibres). So-called clean production must include all areas up until final assembly – production, assembly, storage, transport and the packaging itself. In process chains, measures are taken to minimise contamination or particle generation to achieve a continuous and controllable standard of cleanliness. A special section is the cleanliness of the cable connectors, which is dealt with in this article. The introduction describes the current state of science and research in this field and then summarises the standard requirements in the automotive environment and the basic possible consequences of connector contamination. This is followed by a case study showing the possibilities of preventing contamination by particles and fibres, including a discussion of the effectiveness of these measures.

Przedstawiono wyniki badań nad możliwością odzyskiwania nasion sałaty głowiastej wydzielanych do odpadu podczas czyszczenia. Stwierdzono, że wydzielenie nasion sałaty głowiastej z odpadu przy stosowaniu tylko kanału aspiracyjnego lub sit jest mało skuteczne. Natomiast stosując czyszczenie w kanale aspiracyjnym, przy prędkości powietrza 2,5 m/s, a następnie na sicie o szerokości otworów prostokątnych 1,1 mm, można odzyskać ponad 70% nasion sałaty głowiastej wydzielonej do odpadu, przy czystości produktu wymaganej dla materiału siewnego przez Polską Normę. Podano również formuły matematyczne opisujące przebieg procesu rozdzielania.
Presentation of the results of a research on the possibility to recover seeds of lettuce from waste after cleaning. It was found that separation of lettuce seeds with application of only an aspiration canal or sieves is not much effective. On the other hand, during cleaning in the aspiration canal with air speed 2.5 m/s and then on a sieve with the width of rectangular holes 1.1 mm one may recover over 70% of seeds of lettuce separated from waste with product cleanliness required for sewing material by the Polish standard. Mathematical formulas which describe the separation process were also given.

The implementation of the provisions of the Act on cleanliness and order in municipalities has raised doubts as for which body is competent to examine the compliance with the regulations of the local law. Before the amendments to the Act, municipal regulations in the field were supervised by the regional governor (Polish: wojewoda), while the owner of an estate made payments directly to those who take the waste away, on the basis of a civil law agreement. With the amendments, the system has been based on declarations, while payments have been subject to tax law; it is not, however, at any point called a local payment. On the other hand, on the basis of the Act resolutions are still made, related to the municipal waste management system, not directly connected with the payment. That is why supervision bodies are having some problems with identifying the legal nature of the payment and the scope of resolutions adopted.

Opis:
Development of the automotive industry, including so-called dowsizing and rightsizing, entails the need to ensure, and hence to verify, the stringent cleanliness levels of an increasing number of car components. The assurance of proper cleanliness level requires knowledge of the entire production process and precise information on the contaminants that will allow to identify their sources. Obtaining reliable cleanliness information requires establishing of many different factors, i. a. selection of proper contamination extraction and collection technique, proper parameters of extraction, validation of extraction procedure, methods of particles analysis. Analytical techniques which are implemented include gravimetric, optical microscopy and advanced techniques like scanning electron microscopy. This work present’s actual state of knowledge regarding technical cleanliness analysis of components. Important aspects of QA&QC in technical cleanliness assessment are also discussed.
