    Opis:
    For many years, attempts have been made to remove the relic of the ‘Piast’ Cinema in the western town of Słubice from Poland’s monuments register. This would allow for its demolition and construction of a modern commercial building on the site. The majority of the building has already be demolished, with only the front elevation remaining. The façade of the cinema has unique artistic value, representing a rare example of the art deco style in the region. The building also forms an important part of the cultural landscape of this border town, representing the history of both Słubice and nearby Frankfurt. With its total demolition, Słubice would lose a unique monument and the entire frontage of the street on which it is located would be downgraded.
    Od wielu lat podejmowane są próby skreślenia z rejestru zabytkowych reliktów kina „Piast” w Słubicach. Pozwoliło by to na ich rozbiórkę i budowę w tym miejscu nowoczesnego obiektu handlowego. Rozebrano już znaczą część budynku, pozostała jedynie elewacja frontowa. Fasada kina posiada wyjątkowe w skali regionu wartości artystyczne reprezentując rzadki przykład budynku opracowanego w stylistyce art déco. Budynek jest istotnym elementem krajobrazu kulturowego przygranicznego miasta, obrazuje historię Słubic i Frankfurtu. Jego rozbiórka spowoduje to, że miasto utraci wyjątkowy zabytek, zubożeniu ulegnie też cała pierzeja ulicy przy której się znajduje.

    Budynek dawnego Towarzystwa Kasyno, późniejszego kina „Filmbühne” i „Tęcza” należy do nielicznych przykładów dawnych lokali towarzyskich, jakie zachowały się w Kwidzynie. Do chwili przeprowadzenia badań historyczno-architektonicznych w 2019 zabytek w zasadzie nie był w pełni rozpoznany, zarówno w kwestiach historycznych czy funkcjonalnych, jak i przekształceń budowlanych. Przykładem niewystarczającej analizy źródłowej może być choćby niesprecyzowane datowanie jego budowy. Zatem głównym celem artykułu jest przedstawienie najnowszych wyników badań związanych z jego przekształceniami budowlanymi od momentu powstania w 1875, poprzez kluczowe przemiany użytkowo-architektoniczne z 1935 aż do lat sześćdziesiątych– siedemdziesiątych XX wieku, kiedy uzyskał ostateczną formę. Od kilkunastu lat zabytek jest nieużytkowany, a jego stan zachowania na skutek zaniedbań i błędnych decyzji poprzedniego właściciela jest katastrofalny. Obecnie obiekt został przejęty przez samorząd w celu przywrócenia dawnych funkcji towarzysko-kulturalnych oraz świetności, poprzez przeprowadzenie gruntownych prac restauratorsko-budowlanych.
    The building of the former Casino Society, later the “Filmbühne” and Tęcza cinema, is one of a few examples of old social venues that have survived in Kwidzyn. Until historical and architectural research was carried out in 2019, the monument was largely unexplored, neither in terms of historical and functional issues, nor in the view of construction transformations. One example of an insufficient source analysis may be the highly unspecific dating of its construction. Therefore, the main goal of the paper is to present the latest research results related to the construction transformations of the building from when it was built in 1875, through the key functional and architectural transformations in 1935, until the 1960sand 70s, when it obtained its final form. The monument has not been used for many years, and its condition is very poor due to negligence and questionable decisions of its previous owner. Currently, the facility has been taken over by the local government in order to restore its former social and cultural functions as well as its great splendor by carrying out thorough renovation and construction works.

    Opis:
    The starting point of this essay is a multidisciplinary study conducted by the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies of the Politecnico di Milano regarding the opportunities for the revitalisation of the almost 800 Community Cinemas owned by the Italian Catholic Church. These cinemas represent the local communities and are an important part of the contemporary Italian urban environment. Research shows that cinemas are threatened by how people currently consume audio-visual content, that there is a need to rethink the projection theatres as social gathering spaces open to the twenty-first-century neighbourhood, thanks to some features innate in the Community Cinemas that can be enhanced. Four case studies have been identified that represent the most common (or widest variation of) size and general layout among the 800 existing situations. A general model has been developed through the radical re-shaping of the space in accordance with new urban and social functions and implementing new technologies. By designing these case-study project solutions, it was possible to define that a new model of multipurpose social centre merged with a more traditional projection room is not only possible, but thanks to state-of-the-art technologies could represent a perfect match and an opportunity to make significant changes throughout a community.
