Opis:: The Parish Church in Poznań (the former Jesuit Church) is known to house about 200 Latin inscriptions. The majority of them have not been investigated in detail yet. The paper deals with six different inscriptions that require some comments from the philological or cultural point of view.

Opis:: This article provides a source edition of two instructions for ringing bells at St John the Baptist and St John the Evangelist Church in Toruń (Thorn). The sources come from the collection of archival files related to the history of this church, kept in the State Archives in Toruń. They date back to the first half of the sixteenth century. The authors attempted to establish the purpose of writing down the presented ordinations, characterized the church servants that appear in the source material and examined their duties regarding bell ringing. The article also examines the fees paid for ringing bells during church services and the associated remuneration for bell-ringers. Moreover, particular attention was paid to the liturgical calendar of the parish of St John the Baptist and St John the Evangelist Church in Toruń.

Opis:: The Tuba Dei bell from the tower of St. Johns’ Church, the present-day Cathedral Basilica in Toruń, is one of the largest bells in Poland. It is also one of Toruń’s most important monuments and symbols of the city. It has attracted the interest of researchers not only on account of its uniqueness, but also because of the ongoing dispute regarding the date it was cast. This paper presents a voice in the discussion regarding the dating of the Tuba Dei bell of Toruń. Source literature has accepted the suggestions of the year 1500 or 1522 and various daily dates, and the discrepancies were based on different ways of reading and interpreting the inscription on the bell. The article is an attempt to verify the hypotheses accepted so far based on written sources that have not been included in the findings. In the course of researching medieval accounts of Toruń churches, the authors found information indicating the date the bell was cast. The St. John’s Church account book from 1520–1553 contains data that clearly establishes it as 27 September 1522.

Opis:: Autor opisuje historię dzwonów kościoła parafialnego pw. Wniebowzięcia NMP w Idzikowie od początku XVI w. do czasów współczesnych. Tekst oparty jest na rezultatach kwerendy archiwalnej przeprowadzonej podczas prac porządkowych w archiwum parafialnym. Na podstawie kroniki wiadomo, iż pierwszy dzwon wzmiankowany jest już w 1512 r. Kolejne dzwony ufundowane zostały w 1657, 1671 i 1731 r., jednak zostały one skonfiskowane w 1917 r. W 1922 r. parafia rozpoczęła korespondencję z ludwisarnią Petit & Gebr. Edelbrock z Gescher, co finalnie zakończyło się zakupem trzech dzwonów (tony B-C-D) za kwotę 4484 marek. Niestety, także one zostały skonfiskowane na cele wojenne w styczniu 1942 r. Szczęśliwie, głównie dzięki zaangażowaniu wielu osób, konfiskaty uniknął dzwon z 1512 r. Znajduje się on na wieży idzikowskiej świątyni do dnia dzisiejszego wraz z dwoma innymi, których historia nie jest jeszcze do końca znana.
The author describes the history of the bells of the parish church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Idzików from the early 16th century to the present day. The text is based on the results of an archival search carried out during cleaning work in the parish archive. Based on the chronicle, it is known that the first bell was mentioned as early as 1512. Further bells were founded in 1657, 1671 and 1731, but these were confiscated in 1917. In 1922, the parish began correspondence with the bell foundry of Petit & Gebr. Edelbrock of Gescher, which eventually resulted in the purchase of three bells (tones B-C-D) for 4484 Marks. Unfortunately, these too were confiscated for war purposes in January 1942. Fortunately, thanks mainly to the commitment of many people, the bell from 1512 was not confiscated. It can be found on the tower of the Idzik temple to this day, together with two others whose history is not yet fully known.

Opis:: The content of this article is an introduction to a wider spectrum of the issues related to losses of life and material things the Diocese of Lublin suffered after the First World War. The article focuses on two major issues related firstly to the reconstruction of destroyed parish churches in the Diocese of Lublin in the postwar period and using for this purpose state subsidies and funds from the contributions of the parishioners; and secondly, related to the dynamics and intensity of the construction of new parish churches at that time. The rebuilding of churches and buildings connected with them was a priority in the fi eld of renovation and construction projects after World War I. The matter of less importance was to initiate the construction of new churches, erected mainly at the expense of parishioners, rarely with the use of state subsidies. In the 1930s the movement of building parish churches intensified. It was, however, a short-lived process, interrupted by the outbreak of another war. The dynamic growth in the number of new churches, observed in a relatively short period of time was caused, among other things, by the use of cheaper and more readily available wood, which resulted in the increase in wooden churches in the interwar period. The concise characterization of building regulations in the context of the construction of parish churches in the postwar period, the same as in the case of other issues, requires further research and in-depth analysis.
