Opis:
In this study, the functional polymers containing heterocyclic ligands were synthesized by microwave modification of a crosslinked poly(vinylbenzyl chloride–divinylbenzene) matrix with 4-tertbutylpyridine, pyrrolidine, and 3-morpholinopropylamine. The sorbents were used to recover Ag(I) from the synthetic and real chloride solutions (4.00 mol/dm3 of NaCl, 0.100 mol/dm3 of HCl). The best Ag(I) sorption was achieved from synthetic and real chloride solutions in the case of pyrrolidine resin (16.2 and 16.7 mg/g, respectively). The sorption kinetic data were well fitted to the pseudo-first-order kinetic model. The degree of silver desorption was approximately 90% using a 1.0% potassium cyanide solution in a 0.50% hydrogen peroxide solution. All resins showed good selectivity for Ag(I) compared to Cu(II), Pb(II), Co(II), Ni(II), and Zn(II) in real chloride solution. On the basis of this study, it can be concluded that the obtained sorbents can be used to recover Ag from various sources such as ores, wastewater, and jewelry scraps.

Opis:
This work presents the synthesis of polymer resins with heterocyclic functional groups, that is, N-(3-aminopropyl)-2-pipecoline, N-(3-aminopropyl)-2-pyrrolidinone, and trans-1,4-diaminocyclohexane for the recovery of Ag(I) from chloride solutions. The modification yield was 69.2, 74.6 and 88.3%, respectively. The best Ag(I) sorption was achieved from synthetic and real chloride solutions in the case of trans-1,4-diaminocyclohexane resin (sorption was 26.8 and 21.5 mg/g, respectively). The sorption kinetic data were well fitted to the pseudo-first-order kinetic model. The maximum sorption capacity of Ag(I) is 105.4, 117.8 and 130.7 mg Ag(I)/g for N-(3-aminopropyl)-2-pipecoline resin, N-(3-aminopropyl)-2-pyrrolidinone resin and trans-1,4-diaminocyclohexane resin, respectively. The trans-1,4-diaminocyclohexane modified resin was very selective towards Ag(I) compared to Cu(II), Pb(II), and Zn(II) from the real chloride leaching solution. The N-(3-aminopropyl)-2-pipecoline and N-(3-aminopropyl)-2-pyrrolidinone resins showed high preferences for Ag(I) over Pb(II) in real solution. These results indicated that the polymers can be applied in the recovery of Ag(I).

Opis:
Experimental investigations have been performed to determine the effects of nicotiana tobaccum (tobacco) extract additive on the electrodeposition of zinc on mild steel in acid chloride solution. The experiments were performed under different plating time, different additive concentrations and fixed pH conditions. Zinc electrodeposition on mild steel was performed using a DC - supply at defined operating parameters. The surface of the plated steel was examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM); and Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) for the surface elemental composition analysis. Different surface characteristics were obtained depending upon the concentration of the additive and the plating time. The corrosion resistance of the plated surface was also determined by a gravimetric method. The quality of the electro-deposition of zinc was good as indicated by the microstructural morphology of the plated surface except for the few porosities observed. The electrodeposition process was sensitive to the changes in the additive concentration and plating time. Any variation in the plating parameter produced an entirely new and different surface morphology.

Opis:
The solvent extraction ability of 1,1′-dialkyl-2,2′-bibenzimidazoles (L) for the recovery of copper(II) ions from aqueous chloride solutions has been investigated. It was found that 1,1′-didecyl- 2,2′-bibenzimidazole is a useful extractant for the separation of copper(II) ions from both weakly and strongly acidic solutions. Copper(II) can be effectively stripped of organic solutions by a water or ammonia solution in a one-stage process. In low acidity media (pH feed > 1), the extraction percentage of Cu(II) increases with an increase in metal ions and chloride concentrations. Copper(II) ions are extracted as binuclear complexes (CuCl2) 2L2 (L = extractant). The constructed McCabe−Thiele diagram shows that the reduction of copper(II) ions concentration from 25 to approximately 5 g/dm3 in an aqueous feed is possible in two extraction stages. When [HCl] feed ≥ 1 M, (LH+)2(CuCl 4 2)L complex is formed. From the strongly acidic solutions ([HCl] = [LiCl] = 4 M), almost 100% of copper(II) ions can be removed by 1,1′-didecyl-2,2′-bibenzimidazole. Benzyl alcohol, used as an organic phase modifier, enables the selective extraction of copper(II) over zinc(II) ions from a weakly acidic chloride solution.

Opis:
The zinc leaching filter cake residue as a secondary resource is used for hydrometallurgical lead production from brine (chloride) media. In this method, zinc accumulation caused decrease in the lead leaching efficiency in feed solution as well as a defective cycle flowsheet in production process. Therefore, an experiment was designed for the solvent extraction (SX) of zinc from brine solution after lead cementation stage. The results indicated that approximately 98% zinc with a little contamination of other metals was extracted under optimum conditions (193.5 g.dm-3 of D2EHPA in kerosene as diluent, pH=3.5, contact time=5 min, temperature=40±2 °C and aqueous: organic ratio (A:O)=1:1). Also, according to the differences of ∆pH0.5 and separation factor values among Zn and other ions, D2EHPA as an organophosphorous extractant has suitable capability for zinc selective extraction from brine solution. Moreover, H2SO4 solution which was used for stripping to transfer Zn2+ ions to zinc conventional production sulphate media achieved high efficiency of 99%. McCabe-Thiele diagram was simulated to counter-current extraction route. The results showed that two stages were needed for both extraction and stripping.

This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of higher conductivity of nutrient solution created by nitrate or chloride salts of potassium and calcium on growth characteristics of pepper plants (Capsicum annuum var annuum) during four months of growth period. Two EC5 and EC8 dS/m of Hoagland nutrient solutions were prepared using various salt combinations, namely: KCl + CaCl2, KNO3 + CaNO3, and KNO3 + CaNO3 + NaCl. Hoagland nutrient solution with EC 1.8 dS/m served as a control. Higher conductivity treatments had different effects on pepper plant growth. The most significant reduction in growth parameters of plant height, shoot fresh weight, fruit yield and nutrients uptake was in plants treated with KCl + CaCl2 particularly at EC8. Application of KNO3 + CaNO3 particularly at EC5, showed no difference as compared to the control regarding many growth parameters. Application of KNO3 + CaNO3 at EC5 resulted in higher shoot fresh weight compared to the control. All salinity treatments, except from KNO3 + CaNO3 at EC5, reduced the fruit yield compared to the control. Treatments of KCl + CaCl2 and KNO3 + CaNO3 + NaCl particularly at EC8 of nutrient solution, resulted in higher leaf proline concentration, catalase and peroxidase enzymes activity compared to the control. Other conductivity treatments showed no difference in catalase or peroxidase enzymes activities. Significantly the lowest amount of leaf N, K, Mg and Ca was in KCl + CaCl2 at EC8. On the other hand, the highest leaf macronutrient concentrations were in KNO3 + CaNO3 at EC5 and/or EC8 that showed only higher leaf N and Ca values compared to the control. Leaf micronutrient concentrations were the highest in KNO3 + CaNO3 at EC5 that generally showed no difference with control plants. However, application of KCl + CaCl2 particularly at EC8 and to less extent KNO3 + CaNO3 + NaCl at EC8, reduced the leaf micronutrient concentrations. Application of KNO3 + CaNO3 at EC5 increased and KCl + CaCl2 or KNO3 + CaNO3 + NaCl at EC8 decreased the leaf Fe concentration compared to control plants.

Badano właściwości Teologiczne gumy ksantanowej, gumy guar i ich mieszanin. Stwierdzono występowanie najsilniejszych synergistycznych interakcji pomiędzy gumami przy ich wzajemnym stosunku 1:1 w roztworze wodnym. Dodatek NaCl powyżej 0,005M wyraźnie ograniczał występowanie interakcji. Roztwory mieszanin gum ksantanowej i guar w wodzie destylowanej charakteryzowały się również właściwościami tiksotropowymi, przy czym najwyższym współczynnikiem tiksotropii (KT = 2,6); cechował się roztwór, w którym stosunek tych polisacharydów wynosił 3:7.
Rheological properties of xanthan gum, guar gum and xanthan/guar blends has been investigated. Maximum synergism was observed at blend ratios 1:1 in absence ions. Addition of sodium ions above level 0,005 M. diminishes the interactions significantly. Xanthan/guar gum blends had thixotropic properties. The highest thixotropy coefficient KT = 2,6 was observed for xanthan gum : guar gum blend (3:7) in absence ions.
