Opis:
The paper presents the results of measurements of chip temperature in the cutting zone during milling. The main aim of the research was to record and compare the maximum chip temperature in consecutive frames of thermal images. An additional goal may be the influence of changes in technological parameters on the temperature of the chips in the cutting zone. Two grades of magnesium alloys were used for the tests: AZ31 and AZ91HP. The research used a carbide milling cutter with an additional chip breaker, dedicated to effective roughing of light alloys. These tool geometries can assist in the high-performance machining of magnesium alloys by efficiently splitting the chip and consequently reducing friction in the machining zone. This can reduce the cutting area temperature. The results of the research work were showed as exemplary "time" charts, box-plot charts and a summary table, which additionally included an error analysis of the measurement method. On the basis of the tests and measurements performed, it can be concluded that despite the observed chip fragmentation, the obtained temperatures can be defined as the so-called safe milling areas. During the machining tests, the risk of chip ignition during machining was not observed, also the characteristic melting points, which clearly indicates the safety of the milling process of these alloys. It has been observed that with the increase of vc and fz, there was no increase in the maximum temperature of the chip in the cutting area. This situation only occurs when increasing ap.

Opis:
Temperature on the chip-tool interface is important parameters in the analysis and control of turning process. Due to the high shear and friction, energies dissipated during a machining operation the temperature in the primary and secondary shear zones are usually very high; hence, affect the shear deformation and tool wear. In a single point cutting, heat is generated at three different zones i.e. primary shear zone, chip tool interface and the tool-workpiece interface. The primary shear zone temperature affects the mechanical properties of the work piece – chip material and temperatures at tool-chip and tool-work piece interfaces influence tool wear at tool face and flank respectively. Total tool wear rate and crater wear on the rake face are strongly influenced by the temperature at chip-tool interface. Therefore, it is desirable to determine the temperatures of the tool and chip interface to analyse or control the process. To measure the temperature at the tool-chip interface many experimental methods have been developed over the past century. Since at the interface there is a moving contact between the tool and chip in this work, authors propose infrared method for temperature measuring. To assure possibly high accurate of noncontact temperature measurement there is a need to keep in mind several factors, including determining appropriate value of emissivity. In this work, authors present results of experimental determining emissivity value of tool-chip interface. As initial value, emissivity of polished steel was taken.

Opis:
This paper presents the results of a study investigating the problem of safety in dry milling magnesium alloy AZ91D. Selected indicators of safe machining were analyzed, including time to ignition, ignition temperature, chip mass and morphology. Experiments were performed using carbide end mills with a variable edge helix angle. It was observed that magnesium alloys could be dry milled without the risk of chip ignition. The milling process conducted with the axial depth of cut ap set to 6 mm was found to be optimum (a great amount of leading fraction A was produced). Unfortunately, however, some machining conditions proved to be inductive to the formation of chip powder known as magnesium dust. For most cases, chips obtained using the tool with λs 50° had higher unit mass than those obtained with λs 20°. Metallographic images of chips confirmed the safe range of the machining parameters employed (no partial melting or burn marks were observed). Determined on a specially designed test stand outside of the machine tool, time to ignition can be an effective parameter for performing simplified chip ignition simulations.

Opis:
The article presents the methodology of conducting research on temperature distribution in the cutting zone for orthogonal turning without the use of a cooling liquid. AISI 321 austenitic steel was chosen as the workpiece material to be tested, while TNMA160408 carbide inserts, with a flat rake face made of H10F carbide, were chosen as the cutting edges. The research used infrared imaging, which still poses many research problems. The author's own method of calibration of the measurement chain is also presented. In addition, the most common causes of inaccuracies in thermovision measurements of cutting temperatures are discussed. The obtained temperature distribution maps were related to the average contact temperature determined by the method of natural thermocouple – chips/rake face.

Opis:
W artykule przedstawiono wybrane formy wiórów otrzymanych podczas prób toczeniem stopów Inconel 625 i Inconel 718, odpowiadające im wartości mierzonych sił i temperatury w strefie skrawania.
In the paper selected chip forms received in Inconel 625 and 718 turning have been presented together with corresponding values of cutting forces and temperatures in cutting zone. To make the presentation clear the results for two values of feed (f = 0,105mm/rev and f = 0,211mm/rev) and two depths of cut (ap = 1,0mm i ap = 2,0mm) for cutting speed vc = 50 and 75m/min were presented. It is noticeable that the feed increase often causes better filling of chip groove what is the reason of correct chip form. Chipbreaker type 23 made by Sandvik Coromant was tested.
