Opis:
Children’s literature and art activities are not only useful for creativity but also quite functional for education through new understanding in the contemporary perspectives about learning. For instance, philosophy for children is a wide-spread methodology to reveal children’s potentials by building a “community of inquiry” at classrooms. Children’s books and animations can provide a magnificent starting point for those philosophical discussions. However, in many societies, children and young people are still underestimated that the usual point of view about children’s literature used to include ‘softer’ topics, which is likewise to be ‘censored’ compared to literature in general. All products for children have usually function to cultivate new generations according to traditional discourse underlying in society. The essential purpose of this paper is to reveal possibilities to shape traditional discourse into an expanded perspective with children utilizing discussion and critical thinking. It is supposed to analyze the artworks for children in variable ways, by embodying discourse within. In between education and entertainment, cultural products also expected to be age-appropriate. Besides the relation between adult-children distinction and all cultural products, specifically produced ‘for’ children, how children see themselves is directly related to how they interpret cultural products. In this paper, two short animations, Alike, and Ian which were watched together with a group of children in a private secondary school in Istanbul, Turkey, will be analyzed through children’s perspectives, with their expressions.

Heteronormativity refers to a rigorous social gender order in which the only assumed and accepted gender division is between male and female. Non-heteronormativity implies a loosening of the social gender dichotomy. Both the concepts of heteronormativity and non-heteronormativity in relation to children are rarely used, probably because of prevailing notions of an essentially asexual and unproblematically heteronormative, ‘natural’ process of gender identity acquisition in childhood. In this paper, I address the issue of gender and sexuality in childhood in academic discourses and analyse the construction of non-heteronormativity in selected children’s books. Impulses for the research are provided by critical readings of classical psychological and sociological developmental theories, as well as theories and research on the construction of gender identities in children rooted in the paradigm of social constructivism. The presentation of books created with children in mind, in which the authors point to a way of “taming” non-heteronormativity in the children’s world, may strengthen inclusive tendencies in educational activities and change the existing social gender order.

The article is dedicated to introducing Polish children’s books into the publishing market in Korea. Before the generation of translators completed their education at Polish Philology Faculty at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (founded in 1987), Polish works had been translated through different foreign languages. Poland is regarded as a country of interesting books for children, mostly because of the old tradition of Polish school of illustration, but also due to some illustrative works of young artists, or pictorial books such as the ones by Iwona Chmielewska. There are also interesting publications which came as the result of Polish¬ Korean cooperation – books that were created by Polish authors, edited by Koreans, published in Korea as Korean products. As cultural products created by many people from both countries (Korea and Poland) such books are able to cross the countries’ borders.

The article is a review of the latest children’s books that deal with refugee issues. In the following text there are discussions also performances for children that we can see in the context of migration. These books for children have the potential to contribute to shaping and strengthening the empathic and open attitude of young readers who will be responsible for civil society in the future.

The purpose of this article is to analyse the fantastic from a theoretical perspective, including its specific uses in Barceló’s stories and novels, how it works and why. Thus, the paper draws on the concept of the neofantastic to reveal a literary space of aesthetic and ideological transgression that moves among three thresholds: the magical or fairy, the unusual and the absurd or nonsense.

Współcześni seniorzy to ostatnie pokolenie wychowane w kulturze książki, którego dzieciństwo upłynęło bez dominującej obecności środków masowego przekazu. Natomiast generacji dzisiejszej młodzieży, niemalże od urodzenia towarzyszą nowe technologie, a książka jest zwykle jednym z wielu użytkowanych mediów. Celem artykułu będzie ukazanie dziecięcych bohaterów lekturowych z dwóch perspektyw: dziadków i wnuków, czyli pokoleń posiadających odmienne doświadczenia lekturowe i kompetencje medialne. Analizie poddane będą wypowiedzi słuchaczy Uniwersytetu Trzeciego Wieku we Wrocławiu oraz studentów Instytutu Informacji Naukowej i Bibliotekoznawstwa Uniwersytetu Wrocławskiego. Zaprezentowani zostaną bohaterowie lektur szkolnych i postaci spoza kanonu, a także uczuciowe związki z bohaterami literackimi i ich losami. Tekst będzie próbą wskazania zarówno różnic w postrzeganiu literackich postaci z dzieciństwa, jak i wspólnoty wyborów dziecięcych bohaterów lekturowych.
Today’s seniors are the last generation that was brought up in book culture and whose childhood was free of the dominant presence of mass media. On the other hand, the contemporary youth is surrounded by new technologies almost from birth and book is often merely one of many media they access. The aim of the paper is to examine children’s book characters from the perspective of two generations – grandparents’ and grandchildren’s – with different lecture experiences and media competences. The study will include an analysis of the statements made by students of the University of the Third Age in Wrocław and students of the Institute of Library and Information Science at the University of Wrocław. The characters known from school as well as extra curricular reading will be presented and readers’ attachment to them and their fates will be described in the text. The paper will seek to highlight different ways of regarding childhood literary characters as well as common choices of children’s book heroes.

This article is concerned with maps in children’s books. It is noted that maps are more common in children’s books than in books for adults, and that maps are common across different children’s literature genres. They are, moreover, directed at both preliterate children and adolescents. In the article, the argument is made that there seems to be a greater readiness in children’s literature to combine verbal and visual elements. After all, the child’s experience of picturebooks and illustrated books, make the inclusion of maps quite unobtrusive and natural, whereas in a book for adults, a map is a distinctive generic marker (fantasy or travel book). The article goes on to specifically analyze how humorous and playful maps are used in children’s books – a mode of mapping largely missing in adult literature. A number of examples are marshalled and analyzed. It is shown that some maps produce comedy in the low-mimetic mode, others may be highly abstract but at the same time aesthetically pleasing. Some maps also clearly make use of parody and satire in their use of maps. And while fantasy maps for adults tend to promote verisimilitude and suspension of disbelief, fantasy maps in children’s books are often intentionally incredible and unrealistic.

Introduction: The paper analyses some children’s books printed in Italy in the last two years in order to tell and explain to children the COVID-19 pandemic, assuming that the national case could be compared or generalized to the publishing markets of other countries. The starting hypothesis was that our time is characterized by a deep change in grounding values. Research Aim: The research aims to identify the recurrent themes offered to the attention of children during the pandemic, trying to understand on which ideas of society and human coexistence they are conceived. Method: The research has been carried out by reading the main children’s books published on the pandemic issue and considering the national simultaneous political and cultural debate on the measures adopted to contain the virus spreading. Results: With some remarkable exceptions, children’s books were strictly focused on health aspects and on the contagion prevention, rather than on more educational matters, often ignoring the youngsters’ sufferance of the two last years, when children were not allowed to go to school, to meet friends and to have a normal social life. Conclusions: The analysis seems to confirm the starting hypothesis of a deep change in common sense and in the main values. The pandemic is maybe the turning point of a historical process which started on September 11, 2001, that I suggest to connect to the concept of “hyper-modern”, introduced in the early hyper 2000s to signaling the running out of the post-modernist point of view.
Wprowadzenie: Artykuł analizuje niektóre książki dla dzieci opublikowane we Włoszech w ciągu ostatnich dwóch lat wyjaśniające dzieciom pandemię COVID-19. Artykuł zakłada, że przypadek włoski można porównać lub uogólnić do rynków wydawniczych innych państw. Hipoteza ogólna zakładała, że nasze czasy charakteryzują się głęboką zmianą wartości. Cel badań: Badanie ma na celu zidentyfikowanie powtarzających się tematów oferowanych uwadze dzieci w czasie pandemii. Starano się zrozumieć, na jakich ideach społeczeństwa i ludzkiego koegzystowania są one oparte. Metoda badań: Badanie zostało przeprowadzone poprzez przeczytanie głównych książek dla dzieci opublikowanych na temat pandemii i rozważenie równoczesnej włoskiej debaty politycznej i kulturowej na temat środków przyjętych w celu powstrzymania rozprzestrzeniania się wirusa. Wyniki: Z kilkoma wyjątkami książki dla dzieci były ściśle skoncentrowane na aspektach zdrowotnych i zapobieganiu zarażeniom, a nie na kwestiach bardziej edukacyjnych, często ignorując cierpienie młodzieży z ostatnich dwóch lat, podczas których dzieci nie mogły chodzić do szkoły, aby się spotykać z przyjaciółmi i prowadzić normalne życie towarzyskie. Wnioski: Analiza potwierdza hipotezę wyjściową o głębokiej zmianie w sposobie myślenia i głównych wartościach. Pandemia być może jest punktem zwrotnym procesu historycznego rozpoczętego 11 września 2001 roku, który autor proponuje połączyć z pojęciem „hipernowoczesności”, wprowadzonym na początku XXI wieku, aby zasygnalizować wyczerpanie postmodernistycznego punktu widzenia.

Celem niniejszego artykułu jest zbadanie, w jaki sposób zmiany, które na przestrzeni ostatnich trzydziestu lat dokonały się na gruncie rynku książki dla dzieci w Polsce wpłynęły na wybór utworów dla dzieci chorwackich autorów, które poddano procesowi tłumaczenia i udostępniono polskim czytelnikom, a także ich funkcjonowanie i recepcję na gruncie kultury docelowej. Dzięki przeprowadzonym analizom będzie można oszacować rozmiar oraz kształt, jaki w badanym okresie chorwacka literatura dla dzieci przybrała w Polsce. W centrum mojego zainteresowania znajdą się przede wszystkim mechanizmy selekcji utworów – motywacje wydawców, podejmowane przez nich decyzje oraz konsekwencje ich wyborów. Analizy mechanizmów wyboru tekstów do tłumaczenia przez polskich wydawców oraz ich konsekwencji dokonam w oparciu o teorię pola literackiego Pierre’a Bourdieu.
Cilj ovoga rada bio je ispitati kako su promjene na poljskom tržištu knjiga u zadnjih tridesetak godina utjecale na odabir poljskih prijevoda hrvatskih autora dječje književnosti. U analizi mehanizama kojima su se u tome služili poljski nakladnici iskoristila sam teoriju književnog polja Pierrea Bourdieua u okviru koje francuski filozof nudi alate kojima je moguće kriterije za odabir dječjih knjiga dovesti u vezu s mjestom izdavača u nakladničkom polju, a koje je pak dio šireg književnog polja. U tom sam smislu najprije opisala promjene na poljskom nakladničkom tržištu nakon 1990., te predstavila knjige za djecu hrvatskih autora prevedene i objavljene u Poljskoj između 1990. i 2020. godine, kao i njihovu recepciju. I konačno, pomoću dijagrama suvremenog poljskog književnog polja, unutar njega posebice polja dječje književnosti nastojala sam analizirati motivacije i ciljeve poljskih nakladnika.
The aim of the paper is to investigate how the changes that have taken place in the children’s book market in Poland over the last thirty years have influenced the selection of children’s books by Croatian authors that have been translated and published in Poland as well as their reception. Thanks to the conducted analyses, it will be possible to estimate the size and character of Croatian children’s literature in Poland in the analysed period. My focus will be primarily on the mechanics of book selection — publishers’ motivation, their decisions and the consequences of their choices. I will analyse the mechanisms of selecting texts for translation by Polish publishers and their consequences on the basis of Pierre Bourdieu’s theory of literary field.

W artykule zostały przedstawione propozycje lekturowe dla dzieci, przede wszystkim uczniów szkoły podstawowej. Autorka wychodzi z założenia, że powinny to być książki o dużych wartościach artystycznych, zarówno literackich, jak i plastycznych, atrakcyjne ze względu na swoją formę, treść, język. Te kryteria spełnia literatura współczesna, której charakterystyka została szkicowo zaprezentowana w artykule. Kolejno opisane zostały książki obrazkowe, komiksy, tomiki poetyckie. Autorka przedstawiła także kryteria wyboru dobrych książek dla dzieci oraz źródła, do jakich mogą sięgnąć nauczyciel, bibliotekarz czy rodzic w poszukiwaniu wiarygodnych informacji o najnowszej literaturze dziecięcej.
The article presents examples of books for obligatory reading, especially for children in a primary school. The author makes an assumption that such books should be of significant artistic value, both of literary text and illustrations, and attractive in form, subject and language. These criteria are fulfilled by contemporary literature which is characterized shortly in the article. Picture books, comic-books, books with poetry are described consequently. The author advises also how to choose good books for children, what criteria to follow. She presents sources of information for teachers, librarians, parents, where they can find trustworthy reviews on latest children’s literature.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań własnych, których celem było sprawdzenie skuteczności oddziaływań wiedzy zawartej w książkach o muzyce autorstwa Izabelli Klebańskiej i Anny Czerwińskiej-Rydel na edukację muzyczną dzieci w wieku przedszkolnym. W celu uszczegółowienia problemu głównego postawiono pytania problemowe, dotyczące zagadnień muzycznych poruszanych w książkach, sposobów kształtowania wiedzy oraz jej percepcji. Zastosowano metodę eksperymentu pedagogicznego, technikę jednej grupy. Czynnikiem eksperymentalnym były wybrane zagadnienia z książek o muzyce wymienionych autorek. W toku badań ustalono, że wiedza zawarta w książkach I. Klebańskiej i A. Czerwińskiej-Rydel znacząco wpływa na edukację muzyczną dzieci, przyczyniając się do rozwoju umiejętności i kompetencji muzycznych dzieci cztero i pięcioletnich, a także ich zainteresowań muzycznych. Jak dotąd, analizie naukowej poddawana była jedynie warstwa poetycka dziecięcej literatury muzycznej. Interdyscyplinarne pedagogiczno-muzykologiczne badania wskazują nie tylko wartość artystyczną analizowanych dzieł, ale również możliwość i skuteczność zastosowania wiersza lub prozy jako nośnika wiedzy o muzyce.
The article presents research results aimed at checking the effectiveness of knowledge interactions contained in music books by Izabella Klebańska and Anna Czerwinska-Rydel on music education of preschool children. In order to elaborate on the main problem, questions were asked about the musical aspects of books, the ways of shaping knowledge and perception. The method of pedagogical experiment, technique of one group was applied. Experimental factors were selected issues from books on the music of the mentioned authors. In the course of the research it was determined that the knowledge contained in the books of A. Klebanska and A. Czerwińska-Rydel significantly influenced children’s musical education, contributing to the development of musical skills and competences of four and five year old children as well as their musical interests. So far only scientific literature has been subjected to the poetic layer of children’s musical literature. Interdisciplinary pedagogical-musical studies indicate not only the artistic value of the analyzed works, but also the possibility and effectiveness of the use of poetry or prose as a medium for a knowledge of music.

Opis:
Historia Oddziału Słowiańskiego Biblioteki Rosyjskiej Akademii Nauk zaczyna się w latach 80. XIX w. Obecnie zbiory druków słowiańskich (wydanych przed 1930 r.) liczą około 80 000 tytułów w trzystu tysiącach woluminów. Najbogatszym zbiorem Oddziału Słowiańskiego jest kolekcja polska. Liczy około 40 000 tytułów, czyli ponad 80 000 egzemplarzy, w tym około 2000 periodyków i 2700 starych druków. Badania nad kolekcją polską w Oddziale Słowiańskim zaczęły się dopiero w 1995 r. Niniejszy artykuł zawiera podsumowanie studiów przeprowadzonych w ciągu ostatnich 20. lat.
The Slavic Department of The Library of the Russian Academy of Sciences was created in 1883 as a Slavic non-Russian collection. At present, the Slavic department numbered about 80 000 items. The Polish collection consisted of more than 40 000 items, among them about 2700 books and magazines published in 17th-18th centuries. The main sources for the acquisition of Polish collection were the purchase of books, the gifts from organizations and scientists, and the war booty. In the 19th century, The Slavic Department received legal deposit copies of all Polish editions published in the Russian Empire. Research work on the Polish collection started in the late 1990s, since that time there were published several catalogues, studied the collection of old Polish books, and all the books published before 19th century were restored and transferred to conservation. The Slavic Department is in the process of developing an electronic catalogue of its collections.

Sztuka tworzy przestrzeń do rozmowy na temat emocji, towarzyszących im barw, faktur, przedstawionych przez autora ujęć, sytuacji, bohaterów. Obserwowanie dzieła winno być czynnym aktem twórczej rozmowy z własnym doświadczeniem i wrażliwością. Współczesny rynek książki dla dzieci i młodzieży proponuje bogatą ofertę utworów o tematyce artystycznej. Mają one przedstawić młodszym odbiorcom sztukę i jej historię w przystępny i ciekawy sposób. Pokazują obraz nowoczesnego myślenia o edukacji artystycznej, skupionej na odbiorze sztuki z perspektywy młodego uczestnika kultury i jego kompetencji. Celem artykułu jest omówienie współczesnej oferty wydawniczej wraz ze wskazaniem praktycznych możliwości wykorzystania omówionego materiału podczas nauki języka polskiego jako obcego. Wskazane przykłady dzieł obejmują zarówno polski, jak i zagraniczny rynek wydawniczy.
Art creates a space for conversation about emotions, colors, textures, situation and characters presented by the author. Observing the work should be an active act of creative conversation with ourselves experience and sensitivity. The piece of art could be an inspiration for the communicative situation so it might be used while learning foreign languages. Contemporary book market for children and youth offers a wide range of books about art and artistic activities. It presents art and its history in an accessible and interesting way especially for younger audiences. The use of the latest books about art shows a picture of modern thinking about artistic education. It focuses on the reception of art from the perspective of a young participant of culture and their abilities. The aim of that article is to introduce the modern publishing offer and indicate the practical possibilities of using book about art while learning Polish as a foreign language. These examples of works include both – the Polish and foreign publishing market.

W artykule podjęto zagadnienia związane z dziewiętnastowiecznymi zbiorami pieśni i piosenek adresowanymi do dzieci i młodzieży. Omówiono formy edytorskie charakterystyczne dla tego gatunku dziecięcej książki użytkowej oraz zawartość ważniejszych śpiewników funkcjonujących w tym czasie w obiegu czytelniczym i muzycznym. Zwrócono uwagę na funkcje, jakie te wydawnictwa pełniły w wychowaniu i edukacji młodego pokolenia, a także cele, jakim służyły. Przedstawiono firmy wydawnicze i ich działalność w zakresie produkcji śpiewników dla dzieci i młodzieży.
This article presents the issues of the 19th – century collection of cantos and songs for children and youth. The types of songbooks were presented and the content of more important songbooks functioning at that time was discussed. The article points out the role of publishing houses which they had on upbringing and education of young generation. The publishing houses were presented and their activity in production of songbooks for children and youth. Editorial forms typical for this genre of children’s practical books were discussed.

The article presents a quantitative and qualitative analysis of the repertoire of Nasza Księgarnia, a more than 100-year-old Polish publishing house specialising in children’s and youngadult literature, in terms of informational books on nature and ecology. The study covers the years 2011–2021, as a clear increase in the number of such publications was observable all over the world in this period. The main trends in the development of informational books published by Nasza Księgarnia, their dominant themes, and their prevalent genres are identified. Two books on endangered and threatened species are qualitatively analysed by means of Nina Goga’s method as illustrative of the releases and trends under study.
Nell’articolo viene presentata un’analisi quantitativa e qualitativa del catalogo di “Nasza Księgarnia”, casa editrice polacca ultracentenaria specializzata in letteratura per bambini e ragazzi, dal punto di vista della presenza in esso di libri divulgativi su temi legati alla natura e all’ecologia. La ricerca riguarda gli anni 2011–2021, poiché in questo periodo in tutto il mondo si è potuta osservare una crescita di pubblicazioni di questo tipo. Osservando lo sviluppo dei libri di divulgazione editi da “Nasza Księgarnia”, ne sono stati definiti i temi e i generi dominanti. Infine due libri sulle specie in pericolo e in estinzione sono stati sottoposti ad un’analisi quantitativa in base al metodo di Nina Goga, in modo da visualizzare i trend presenti nei titoli presi in considerazione nello studio.
