A field experiment was carried out with two varieties of rice (BR 11 and BRRI dhan 31) during Transplanted Aman season of 2018 in K. bearing deep grey terrace soil of Madhupur tract (AEZ 28) under Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI), Joydebpur. Gazipur. The objective of the study was to know the effect of NPKSZn on the growth and yield of BR 11 and BRRI dhan 31. There were ten treatment combinations with three replications. The treatments were complete (+NPKSZn), reverse complete (-NPKSZn), +N (+PKSZn), -N (+PKSZn), +P (+NKSZn), -P (+NKSZn), +K (+NPSZn) and -K (+NPSZn). The parameters under study were dry matter production, contents and uptake of N, P, K, S and Zn at active and maximum tillering stages, panicle number m’ and grain yield in both the varieties. All the parameters were positively influenced by the treatments under study. Growth and yield of both the varieties were largely affected by the missing nutrient treatment. The highest performance was found with the complete and reverse control treatments whereas the lowest was found with missing element treatments and of course, with control. BR 11 was found to be a better variety than BRRI dhan 31 in respect of yield and yield contributing characters under the treatments. It was also observed that recently fertilized reverse control plot behaved statistically the same as the long term fertilized complete treatment plot. Yield of rice was positively related to K uptake in both the varieties.

The aim of the research was to investigate the soil properties and the species diversity of diatoms growing in different agricultural fields with silt loamy soil. The field experiment was conducted in 2014 in Kosina, near Łańcut (SE Poland), at three sites (indicated as fields K1, K2, K3) with different soil environmental conditions and plants. The growth of winter wheat Triticum aestivum (cv. Bogatka) in fields K1 and K2 and oats Avena Sativa (cv. Haker) in field K3 under different soil management were studied. The soil samples were collected from the top layers (0–5 cm depth) each month, from April to December. Certain physical and chemical parameters of soil were measured. The pH of soil was acidic and slightly acidic in fields K1 (5.0–5.4), K2 (4.9–5.9) and K3 (4.5–5.1). The soil in field K3 had a significantly greater content of organic matter (1.06–1.30%) and water content (12.9–33.8%, v/v) than fields K1 and K2. A total of 91 diatom taxa were found. The diversity was greatest in field K2 (71 taxa), lower in K1 (54 taxa) and K3 (24 taxa). In K1, the most numerous species were Luticola D.G. Mann cf. mutica, Mayamaea atomus var. permitis (Hust.) Lange-Bertalot, and Stauroneis thermicola (Petersen) Lund, with more than a 20% share in the assemblage. In K2, very abundant assemblages were formed by Mayamaea atomus (Kütz.) Lange Bertalot, Mayamaea atomus var. permitis (Hust.) Lange-Bertalot, and Stauroneis thermicola (Petersen) Lund with a 25 to 50% share in the total diatom community. In K3, with oat cultivation, a different diatom species structure was found. Here, the most abundant were Halamphora montana (Krasske) Levkov, Hantzchia amphioxys (Ehrenb.) Grunow, Mayamaea atomus (Kütz.) Lange-Bertalot, and Nitzschia pusilla Grunow, which attained a share in the assemblage exceeding than 20%. The effects of different soil management regimes under different plants on the physical and chemical properties of the soil, and on the diversity of diatoms, were significant (P<0.05). Soil water and organic matter content affects the yield of winter wheat and oats. Significant effects of water content and pH of silt loamy soil on the growth and the diversity of species of diatoms were found.

Opis:
The objective of the research was to assess the soil structure parameters (the index of cloddiness, of pulverization, of soil structure and the mean weighted diameter of soil aggregates – MWDa), as well as the selected chemical soil properties (pH, the content of organic carbon, total nitrogen and available potassium and phosphorus) in the three urban forests in Wrocław (SW Poland) depending on the occurrence of tree species (Quercus robur, Fagus sylvatica, Carpinus betulus). Soil samples were collected under the crown of each tested tree taxons, from three different sites, in three replications, separately in every forest. The soil was taken from two layers: 0−20 cm and 20−40 cm. The structure and weight of mechanically solid soil aggregates were determined using dry separation method. The content of total nitrogen was determined with Kjeldahl method, while phosphorus and potassium – with Egner−Riehm method. Organic carbon was determined with the use of elementary carbon analyser Behr C−50 IRF. The pH was determined by poten− tiometric method in 1M solution of KCl. The results were statistically analysed using the ANOVA. The correlation coefficient between the mean weighted diameter of soil aggregates and the content of organic carbon in the soil was calculated. The tree species occurring in the urban forests of Wrocław affected the soil structure parameters as well as changed the chemical properties of the soil. In both Mokrzański and Rędziński Forests the significantly higher index of soil cloddiness was observed under hornbeam crowns than in the oak and beech surroundings. In the Osobowicki Forest the highest index of cloddiness was determined on the soil with the oak. In general, higher values of index of soil structure and the mean weighted diameter of soil aggregates were noticed for the hornbeam sites than the oak and the beech ones. There was a significant positive corre− lation between the MWDa and the content of soil organic matter (r=0.711, Y=0.4569·x+1.6523). The differences in the content of organic carbon depending on tree species were observed in the Rędziński Forest, while in content of total nitrogen also in the Mokrzański Forest. The highest content of organic carbon and nitrogen was noticed in the soil under the hornbeam. The species of trees affected the content of phosphorus and potassium in the soil, but there was no unambiguous direction of changes.

Opis:
The main objective of the study was to analyse the influence of compost produced from urban green waste, sewage sludge from municipal treatment plants and horticultural peat on changes of selected chemical and microbiological parameters of forest soil reclaimed after a fire. Soil samples were collected one and two years after the components had been applied to the soil. The results from experimental sites were compared with those from control samples. In the soil samples the following parameters were determined: content of carbon and nitrogen, reaction, hydrolytic acidity and the total amount of alkaline cations. Also the total number of bacteria and fungi, including moulds and yeast, was analysed. A year after components application, pH and the number of yeasts and moulds in the soil increased. After two years the content of nitrogen and the total number of bacteria in the soil increased as well. The most beneficial effect on changes in soil properties had the application of sewage sludge, which manifested itself in a decrease of the C/N ratio. This indicated the suitability of sewage sludge in reclamation of poor forest habitats. Peat underwent the slowest mineralization among all the organic components applied to the soil.

Opis:
Omówiono proces uwalniania azotu i fosforu z materii organicznej gleby na tle przebiegu i wydajności mineralizacji ich organicznych związków. Oceniono podobieństwa oraz różnice wpływu czynników, kształtujących te procesy, jako źródła dostępnych składników pokarmowych roślin oraz jako jednej z przyczyn rozpraszania tych pierwiastków w środowisku. Zagadnienie przedstawiono głównie na przykładzie procesów zachodzących w glebach użytków zielonych, wykorzystując, między innymi, wyniki badań na długoletnich doświadczeniach łąkowych, prowadzonych w Instytucie Melioracji i Użytków Zielonych w Falentach. Wykazano, iż warunki wilgotnościowe gleby i związana z nimi ilość opadu atmosferycznego oraz temperatura powietrza, zwłaszcza w okresie wegetacyjnym, właściwości fizykochemiczne gleby, w tym zawartość węgla organicznego oraz odczyn, a także forma stosowanego nawozu azotowego i sposób użytkowania kształtują w głównej mierze przebieg i wydajność uwalniania azotu i fosforu z materii organicznej gleb łąkowych. Ich uwalnianiu z gleby, zwłaszcza zasobnej w węgiel organiczny, towarzyszy wymywanie rozpuszczalnych form tych składników do wody gruntowej, co w warunkach dużej wydajności mineralizacji i niewykorzystania przez roślinność, prowadzi do jej zanieczyszczenia związkami azotu i fosforu. Mineralizacja materii organicznej jest również źródłem emisji tlenków azotu [NOx, N2O], a wydajność i rodzaj emitowanych gazów zależą od panujących w glebie warunków red-ox.
Release of nitrogen and phosphorus from soil organic matter was discussed in view of the course and efficiency of organic matter mineralization. Various factors affecting mineralization were estimated as a source of available plant nutrients and as one of the reasons of nutrient dispersion in the environment. This problem was presented mainly on the examples of processes taking place in grassland soils. Results of long-term grassland experiments carried out in the Institute of Land Reclamation and Grassland Farming in Falenty were mainly used. Soil moisture associated with atmospheric precipitation, air temperature (particularly in the vegetation season), physical and chemical properties including the content of organic carbon and pH, the form of nitrogen fertiliser and the way of land management were the main factors affecting nitrogen and phosphorus release from organic matter of grassland soils. Nutrients release from soil [particularly from that rich in organic carbon] was accompanied by their leaching to ground waters. High mineralization efficiency of nitrogen and phosphorus organic compounds and a lack of their uptake by plants led to water pollution with nitrogen and phosphorus. The mineralization of organic matter is also a source of nitrogen oxides emission [NOx, N2O]. The efficiency and the type of emitted gases depend on soil red-ox potential.
