    The article summarized the characteristics features of cottages are the most frequently and less frequently in the region of Kielce. In article were specified the area to be taken into consideration in the article. Were collected basic types of division of Polish cottages and chosen this classification, which allows to use it to the needs of this publication. Then, based on the literature and photographs were selected representative features of each type.

    Opis:
    The article examines the tradition of the chinking of log cabins with moss in chosen villages of the Carpathian Foothills (SE Poland) in the counties of Krosno, Strzyżów, and Sanok. Moss used to be the main material used for chinking. After being gathered in pastures and forests by children and women, it was dried, sprinkled withwater and packed with the help of the metal part of a plough. For the most efficient chinking, the space between logs had to be about 5 cm wide. The main species of moss used for this purpose were Rhytidiadelphus squarrosus (collected on pastures) and Pleurozium schreberi (collected in pine forests). The 1940s and 1950s saw a gradual discontinuation of this practice. In the course of the research, the author chinked two houses in cooperation with a person who was also a key source of information. The article also addresses the legal limitations of reviving the tradition, which include laws concerning the collecting of understorey plants in state forests, fines for using plants from other owners’ forests, and the protection of some moss species.

    Zasadność translokacji budynku drewnianego pozostaje zagadnieniem szeroko dyskutowanym. Problem ten nabiera szczególnego wymiaru w przypadku translokacji przeprowadzonej w ramach procesu ochrony i interpretacji konserwatorskiej miejsca o szczególnym znaczeniu historycznym. W artykule poddano krytycznej dyskusji zagadnienie translokacji w ramach interpretacji architektoniczno-historycznej na przykładzie historycznych chat o konstrukcji zrębowej w stanie Tennessee w USA: McPeake Cabin w Parkers Crossroads Battlefield, William Manse George Cabin w Shiloh National Military Park, King Cabin w Cane Ridge, George Haynes Slave Cabin na Historycznej Farmie Tipton-Haynes, zrębowy „Dom z czasów dzieciństwa” Sama Davisa oraz zrębowe chaty niewolników na terenie historycznego obiektu „Sam Davis Home and Plantation”. Przedstawione studia przypadku stanowią przyczynek do analizy horyzontu autentyczności zarówno przeniesionych struktur, jak i miejsc historycznych, na których obszarze wtórnie zostały zlokalizowane.
    The legitimacy of the relocation of a wooden building remains a widely discussed issue. This problem takes on a special dimension in the case of relocation carried out as a part of the process of the protection and interpretation of a place with special historical meaning. This paper examines the issue of relocation as part of architectural and historical interpretation on the example of historic log cabins located in the state of Tennessee in the USA. These buildings are: the McPeake Cabin in Parkers Crossroads Battlefield, the William Manse George Cabin in Shiloh National Military Park, the King Cabin in the Cane Ridge community within the suburban township of Antioch, the George Haynes Slave Cabin at the Tipton-Haynes Historic Site, the Sam Davis Log Boyhood Home and Slave Cabins at the Sam Davis Home and Plantation Historic Site. The presented case studies contribute to the analysis of the horizon of authenticity of both the transferred architectural structures and the historical sites in which they were secondary located.
